Good, but in the end a mixed bag. While my friend was happy with his Holy Smokes smash burger, I was less impressed with my rueben (the Peewee), which was heavily spiced with giardiniera and could have benefited from a bit more sauerkraut and cheese. I took home a couple of other sandwiches for another friend and, again, only one sandwich was something I'd maybe order again. The Buena Vista Socialite, a porchetta sandwich, was solid and flavorful, and likely would have been even better had I tasted it in the restaurant, while the Italian Necktie, meant to be a sort of Italian sub, was soft and mushy. The meats and cheese were heavily diced and mixed with mayo and pepperoncini into a sort of a wet meat salad. Also very spicy. Attractive restaurant, fast service. Bus your own table. read more

Walls decorated with old tools and a life-sized picture of an old trailbazers team (among other things) has a bit of truck stop ambiance. My Holy Smokes smash burger was huge & filling, loved the brisket and pimento cheese. French fries on the sandwich ala Primanti's in Pittsburgh (just a couple.) Had never had a smash burger before--like the crispy edge but the meat itself a little bland. Tony thought his Pee Wee (ruben) was pretty good, but the Giardiniera didn't work. I've been four or five times. The ambiance is tidy and interesting. They usually say hello when I walk in and the sandwiches are top notch. We stick with the rose city smash burger, the Italian necktie and the peewee. These sandwiches are big enough for us to save for the next day. The 11yo always finishes his burger tho. Fries are extra but they are delish. I wish they had a rotating special to spice things up a bit. But you can't go wrong when you're on your way to Costco. read more

Living in Hillsboro getting to Parkrose can be a challenge. After eating here today, we will have to find an excuse to drive across town. A couple of things- they have the best smash burger in Portland. Just surpassed Farmer and the beast for me. Literally perfect. Not even gonna try to describe it. The Italian necktie was great too. Basically a multi Italian meat sandwich, chopped up like a chicken salad. So good! A little heat. My wife got their version of a Philly. Already saying best I've had around here. Literally perfect- once again any description will not do it justice. Great fries and fry sauce. They just passed Lardo and Bunk in my book. Good prices, very chill place to have a quick bite. I'm told their burgers are very popular and everything is made fresh in house. My K-town was good and fresh tasting. The sauce wasn't as unique as I expected it to be as it tasted more like a buffalo sauce. Bread was soft with a nice outer crunch to it. The service was quick, much like any fast food joint. It's a little weird having to order at the front, pick up your own food, and busk your own table but yet you're expected to tip... not sure about that one. read more

Fan of reverend bbq and laurelhurst market. So went to get a sandwich with my wife. Similar to LM there are not many vegetarian options for my wife. Veggie sandwich was disappointing - maybe use a smoked tempeh or tofu as a base for a veggie rueben or melt. My pastrami sando was big and had a nice crunch from brunoise of carrot with good smoke flavor altho a little dry and salty from the griddle. I would go back but they need more veggie options. It's only fair to say up front. I love a sandwich. I'm hot or cold, I love them all. So obviously I'd wanted to try this out of the way little joint since I'd heard about it. Was not disappointed! I live in the neighborhood and decided to give it several months before trying.. I figured if they were able to stick around, it'd be worth a shot. Today, I was pleasantly surprised! It was really busy inside the restaurant, which is usually a good sign. Lots of construction guys so that was a positive indicator that they had good food, and fast. Ordered the Italian necktie to go. It was delicious! Fairly priced at $13 and it came out fast enough. When you compare it to the other fast food options nearby asking the same prices for sandwiches and burgers, I definitely prefer to support local. Only complaint is I wish they'd offer a bag of chips with the sandwich or something. With how much of the "bulk" ends up falling out, it'd be nice to have something other than my fingers to scoop it with. I'm impressed, I'll be back! :) read more

The Peewee. One of the best pastrami Sammie's I've ever had. Fresh and hot, it's a little spicy, it's perfectly peppery, the rye bread is just about perfect. Definitely recommend the heck outta this one. The fries were really good seasoned fries, crispy fresh and hot. The BLT was pretty much as you'd expect a BLT to be. Not sure I'd order this one, it's just like the one you make at home, but it was next to two other crazy dishes. The service was casual and their call in orders keep them hopping. Warning: I'd stay clear between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. as the Westbound Sandy Blvd. traffic is absolutely horrendous! If you're heading Eastbound, there's just no way into the parking lot, and if you're exiting the business, it will take you forever to go East or West. That said, this place is a winner. The K-Town Hero was very good; the pork succulent, the flavor medley works. It's price point is just a tad high. However, the $8 Moscow Mule is a deal in terms of quality and quantity. Breakfast burrito was very good, I appreciate the hash browns instead of cubed potatoes. The soft egg was semi-folded rather than scrambled. The pleasant surprise was the potato salad, one of the best I've ever had! The staff and one of the owners are very friendly, the interior is spacious. If the lot on Sandy is full you can park at Parkrose Hardware. The condiment selection is a little weak, and I didn't connect with the breakfast burrito salsa. The area isn't dangerous, but can be sketch with all sorts of characters that make you clutch your wallet. read more

Despite being the third restaurant to open on Sandy Blvd in the past few years with the word "O" in the name (O'Dear and My-O-My being the other two), Sandy O's stands tall on its own merits. Whereas the other two are dive bars specializing in smash burgers and pub food, respectively, Sandy O's bridges the gap and offers a bit of both, taking cues from the other O's by offering uncommonly good, high quality sandwiches (including breakfast options), as well as smash burgers, in a casual, family-friendly environment. Order a sandwich (hot or cold), salad or burger from the counter, tack on a side, a beer, a seltzer or soda, and grab a table anywhere within; your order will be up in just a few minutes. My wife lasered in on the K-Town Hero right away, while I waffled between about four or five different choices, before settling on The Peewee: a stellar iteration of the classic Reuben, with a few choice improvements. Both were fantastic: the K-Town is a sort of pulled pork bahn mi mashup, which works incredibly well; my only nitpick was purely personal: I would have added more pickled jalapenos, but hey, it wasn't my sandwich, was it? Meanwhile, my Peewee was one of the best Reuben's I've ever had, being comparable to the undefeated champion served up at the Goose Hollow Inn across town. Usually I sub out the rye bread for sourdough (blasphemy, I know!), but this was one occasion where I felt it actually complimented, rather than detracted, from the sandwich. Awesome! Service was similarly fantastic: personable, efficient, and helpful. The gentleman at the counter helped me decide on my final choice of sandwich, if only just barely, ensuring that I will be back to try out the SS Adamant, Italian Necktie, Crusty Bird, and several of the smash burgers, in the near future. Having this place two blocks from home is going to be exceedingly dangerous to my wallet. I'm starting to think we're getting a little spoiled out here on the east side, when it comes to quality dining options! Parkrose is finally starting to transform into a *destination*, instead of a place where most people roll up the windows and lock the doors while passing through, and places like Sandy O's are one of the most important factors in effecting that positive change. We ordered the PeeWee , Italian necktie, and double smashburger. They seemed busy; we waited about 30-40 minutes. It was fine though, they played good music, have a pinball machine, and cool basketball decor. The Peewee was just okay, but I know good pastrami from San Francisco and now it's hard to meet those expectations. However, the bread was perfectly crunchy yet soft and buttery. The Italian necktie had a great secret sauce (tasted almost like tartare sauce) and the meat was finely chopped so it wasn't too messy, and I got a bit of everything in each bite. The smashburger was probably the better of all the sandwiches. I wished they put tomatoes and pickles but still was good. I had Liberty Bell cheesesteak sandwich. The bread has a nice crispy crust crunch, and a great "bite". The steak is tender, well seasoned, and no gristle. The cheese, onions and peppers, and sauce all make for a flavorful and balanced sandwich. Fourteen tables with two and four sets. It has a rustic feel to it. I found it inviting. I ordered La Luna that sandwich was really good. I also ordered a side salad I would not order that again. It Is not the type of salad you would usually get, it comes with grilled veggies like broccoli, red peppers, cauliflower , grilled onions. It's a bit too much. The veggies are a bit greasy, I'd rather just have them removed. Just give me a good regular salad. It's just doing too much. The picture is a bit deceiving, I thought the red was tomato, I do not like bell peppers. A refreshing change for the Parkrose neighborhood! Thank you for taking a chance on us. The neighborhood still a little rough around the edges but I am so glad you moved here. We heard good things so we thought we would give it a try. The restaurant is placed in a cavernous space. My hubby says it was one of those over-priced rent-to-own places. I would have guessed a service garage. That doesn't matter. What matters is they deliver a unique set of sandwiches with their personal spin on it. Staff are friendly and chefs in the back do their magic in a large, open commercial kitchen. I had the peewee and was quite impressed with the lean house-smoked pastrami with all the fixings. My hubby had a smash burger and devoured it. I prefer old-school French fries to their "battered" fries. They were okay, just not to my liking by we ate them. We noticed they have breakfast burritos and we want to try them out. They are only offered from 10 to noon. I hope they decide to expand the hours for those! They do have a small parking lot on the east side of the building. It's okay but feels really detached from the space, and out of sight once you are inside. I got the Liberty Bell... it was tasty, but the meat portion for the price was disappointing. The fries were way too salty as well. The attedant was cheerful and nice, but when she brought my order out to me she pointed out to where the napkins and ketchup were - right by the register from which she just passed. Instead of grabbing them on the way to me, she expected me to get up and walk over to where she just came from??? They prompt you for a tip when you pay (which I gave gladly), but then they expect you to get up and get things and also to bus your own tables. Definitely not worth the nearly $30 (20% tip) I spend for a small sandwich, fries and self serve drink and self serve everything but the sandwich.
