Had a wonderful Aji De Gallina bowl here. It was nice, warm, and filling. Perfect for a rainy or cloudy SF day It comes with pulled chicken breast in cheese sauce with turmeric and Aji Amarillo sauce - a kind of chilli but it's not too spicy. Along with rice, potato, and egg! They also had pineapple infused water available for free to get yourself It's a nice place for a social lunch. I have been ordering takeaway about once a month since moving into the same building a few years ago. My favorite is the chicken skewers. There used to be a salad but it has gotten smaller and smaller--today it was ONE lettuce leaf. There used to be a little container of extra sauce for the potatoes--that has disappeared. Today we ordered lomo saltado from 3 differnet locations to compare them and Sanguchon came in 3rd place sadly. We tried their lomo saltado and chicken empanada and was generally disappointed, especially in comparison to the other lomo saltado dishes we were trying The rice was a sticky rice but very overcooked, we did love the triangle shape though. The lomo saltado just lacked flavor and we were disappointed that the fries were put on top, rather than stir fried and soaking in the juices. The price was fair for the portion ($19.75) but we got way more food for $22.8 from the other two places we tried. The chicken empanada was huge but just kinda tasted like shredded chicken in a light tomato sauce? very juicy but again, not very flavorful read more

It's hard to pass up Peruvian food--it is just savory perfect. And I would recommend this place. The key for Peruvian, for me, is aji de gallina. Theirs is not quite creamy enough, a little heavy, and not exactly the aji flavor that you expect in this dish when perfected. But still, an aji de gallina bowl for 16 bucks, delightful! The empanada was also good, and the dough was unique, almost more like sweet dough than empanada crusty. I would surely try this place again. Ah, the land of Machu Picchu, pan flutes, and sangucherias. Sangucherias? What are they, you might ask? Well, for over a decade, I've been a big fan of Mochica and Piqueo's, two of chef Carlos Altamarino's burgeoning Peruvian restaurant empire. He has seven restaurants that have managed to survive the ongoing pandemic, and I just stumbled into this one while walking through the Mission. Not being a food truck junkie, I was not familiar with this spot's genesis as a popular mobile operation. It's a more casual version of his Peruvian comfort food specialties, as the concept of a sangucheria is akin to a Peruvian deli. I ordered the $16.50 Adobo Bowl which was made of slow-cooked duroc pork shoulder in panca paste and cusquena beer. Stopped here for lunch on Sunday while exploring our city. I love Peruvian food and like finding new places to try. We ordered: 1) Empanada (mushroom) - At first kiddo was a bit skeptical about this empanada as it was dusted with powdered sugar. However, she ended up liking it a lot and stated the dough itself was flaky and the filling was flavorful. 2) Papas a la Huancaina - It's been a while since I've last had this and was so looking forward to it. Unfortunately, this dish lacked flavor for me. The sauce was pretty thin and had no flavor. 3) Anticuchos (corazon) - This was probably my favorite dish. It's pricey at $15, but it's 2 skewers on top of greens and includes a potato. The marinade on this mixed with the vinaigrette from the greens was sooo good. 4) Pan con Chicharron - Hubs ordered this one with fries. I like the combo of the pork with the sweet potato. It wasn't dry and had good flavor. 5) Lomito al Jugo bowl - kiddo ordered this one and didn't let any of us try it cuz he was enjoying it so much. He ate it all up! First time tasting Peruvian cuisine! I wanted something unique on Valencia, so some of my friends recommended trying out Sanguchon. I was more than down, since I hadn't had Peruvian cuisine anytime prior. The interior was modern and clean, but their tablet ordering system wasn't working :( Anyway, onto the food- they were shortstaffed the day that my friends and I went, so it took a while for the food to come to us. But lo and behold, our orders came! This was mine: *yuca fries ($6.00): really starchy garlic fries. This was really filling on its own! *aji de gallina bowl with an egg ($19): for the portion, I thought that this was pricey. The cheese-turmeric-Aji Amarillo sauce served on top of the bowl was extremely creamy and savory, and the egg was the cherry on top though. Stopped by here for a quick dinner with some friends! I really enjoyed the Fried Chicken Sandwich - the meat was tender and well-seasoned. The sandwich was really flavorful and had a few different sauces (though it was a bit messy to eat lol). My other friend got the lomo saltado sandwich - he really enjoyed the tender meat and flavors, but wasn't a fan of the added mayonnaise (though that's probably just personal preference). Delicious! My husband had the adobo. He doesn't even know what adobo is but took a chance. It was fine but for me the sandwich is the standout. I would literally drive from mid-Peninsula, where we live, to SF just to dine again at Sanguchon. I might try a different dish....but probably only in addition to the Pan Con Chicarron. It was very chilly so we opted to sit inside. I love that it is QUIET. No blasting music or clattery din from the kitchen, which you can see. I give five stars because this restaurant DELIVERS on what it sets out to do. I don't compare it to a Thomas Keller restaurant and so stint on the stars. Great little eatery on Valencia with outdoor seating. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon and didn't have to wait to order. The ambiance is lively and clean, the food is delicious, and the drinks are either cocktails or canned. This place canbe hard for big groups though since there's limited seating, but it doesn't mean you can't order to go and go to the park. What I recommend: Adobo Bowl - This was just SOOOO SAVORY! Served with white rice, this saucy, melt-in-your-mouth pork goodness was delightful. Every bite was good. This is not for someone who's on a diet though. It's rich and heavy, but worth every calorie. I like the sandwiches here. I recently got one to go and it was good. Well my guy wanted to eat there on the weekend abs so we did. We both got a sandwich except mine came with the guys hair on it. That is kind of gross and I am not going to eat food with someone's hair on it. My guy picked off the hair and when I told him to tell the guy there's hair in it because I am not going to eat that he wouldn't tell the guy about it because he had already picked off the hair. Even while congested and getting over booster symptoms, the Sanguchon food hit the spot. We had the adobo sandwich, which was all kinds of porky delicious balanced out by cole slaw. Lime flavors, with plenty of slow burn spice to back it up, though by the halfway point, the sandwich bread was too soft to eat with anything but fork and knife. Lomo saltado with rice and some fries was really well done. The marinade had a zing to it, and the sauce went well with the jasmine carbs. This empanada de hongos (mushroom empanada) came out so warm and felt so homemade!! It was rlly different from other empanadas I've had + the powdered sugar on the top was a nice touch. The yellow sauce was also added a nice flavor (I think it's queso but its flavor is subtle). The dough is soft buttery and reminds of quiche crust for some reason? I ordered the pan con chicharron for lunch and it was so delicious!! It looked kinda unassuming from the outside, but bread was soft and the pork was tender. I especially loved how the slightly sweet yams and the crunchy onions made for great contrast. It came with a large amount of meat, and I could only finish half of it.
