I have eaten at Sankaku at least a dozen times. That is about as solid a recommendation as I could offer. My wife and I have even picked up bowls here after arrival, rather than wait until we got home (I live in NYC, she lives in SF, so I fly lots). Japanese cuisine has become a ubiquitous as Chinese food. That is not necessarily for the better. Quantity rarely correlates to quality. So it is still a search for udon and ramen and soba that is not mass produced for a quick buck. Mass produced can be worthwhile. That is what Sankaku offers. It has noodles that are good, tempura that is decent, and broth and toppings that are not bad. What distinguishes it from other offerings at the airport are the prices. They are reasonable. The service is efficient and courteous. If you are in the United terminal, this is the best fast food offering. read more

Soup has wakame seaweed and green onions only, no tofu. It was good, even for non airport standards! Not soapy at all and would recommend. 4/5 Teriyaki salmon was a total surprise, especially with low airport-food expectations. You get two medium size salmon pieces, a lot of white rice, sliced cucumbers and some shredded nori (dried seaweed), and teriyaki sauce on the side. The salmon was flaky and tender and not dry at all (i did find one bone though so be mindful). Large portion of rice was cooked well and not mushy at all. Teriyaki sauce was standard but still good. Sankaku is a fast food type sushi spot in the SF airport. I was hesitant to buy sushi from the airport, but I was craving it. I decided to give them a chance because who knows, maybe I had found myself a hidden gem inside the airport. Instead of ordering my usual salmon nigiri and salmon roll because I was not sure of the quality of their fish and of course I did not want to get disappointed, I only ordered the California Roll because it is such a simple roll to be able to mess that up. With low expectations, I still found myself disappointed by the quality/taste. Prices were decent, it was similar to a typical sushi restaurant, but for lower quality sushi. Let's be honest people, Sankaku is an airport restaurant and of course is going to be a little more pricey and maybe the food is not as fresh. With that being said, I've had my fair share of nasty airport food and I think Sankaku is pretty good to be an airport restaurant. I stoped by Sankaku last week while I was waiting for my flight back home. I order the ramen with pork and it was pretty good. There were even a few folks who said "wow that looks good". It obviously didn't taste like the Ramen from a true Japanese restaurant, but it was descent. The quality and price is about on-par with Whole Foods sushi so while not as good as a traditional Japanese restaurant, it's much better than I expect at an airport. I'm not sure if the lady cashier is the owner, the owners wife, or just a miserable worker because she triggered that red racist alert in me. The man before me was Asian. Lovely spot. I cannot express the greatness of having amazing travel Sushi. I know the spread of Covid is rampart. But we need to eat. And having Sushi is great to have on a plane or traveling. It may be a preference. But if this place was not here. I would digress. Always friendly service. Fast customer service. And very genuine in directing a touchless transaction. Social distanced markers on the ground with blue painters tape, but it works. Sushi is always perfectly made. Sticky Rice, and your choice of prepared ready to eat meals, or cooked to order meals. All nice portions for the prices you pay, in an Airport and in San Francisco. Expect to pay $$ to $$$ and no less. Ever. Compliments to the chef and cooks. Every order is fresh. And apparently cycled. I've seen the sous chef replace sushi and not remake, replace it with new hand rolls. Sanitizer everywhere here. If you love Chicken Teriyaki, and you can hop that $12 tag plus Sushi $9($5-$9 for prepacked). It is way healthier than a burger plus a taste of Classic Vintage Old San Francisco before it is gone. I've always been pretty hesitant to try this place just because it's in an airport. I mean, sushi in an airport?? It could have been very very bad. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised that a little sushi combo box was $11 and that it tasted pretty ok! With tax, it came out to $12, which sounds really expensive, but I'd rather pay $12 for sushi than $12 for a sandwich. It's an airport, I knew it wouldn't be cheap. The sushi is premade, so you can just grab and go. If you order noodles or rice bowls, you'll have to wait for them to be prepared. I saw them cooking udon in the back. As expected, it's the packaged kind, sold for less than a dollar at any Japanese grocery store. The sushi wasn't bad. I liked that there were big chunks of avocado in the California roll and that it looked like they used real salmon (did you know rainbow trout or some other fish can be sold as "salmon"?) for the nigiri. After a weekend in Georgia, I was hungry for sushi and would come back if I found myself in the same predicament. read more

They made the sushi quickly and the line went fast. There's nowhere to eat at this stand, so I took the to-go sushi back to my seat in the waiting area. I ate it super fast. When we finished paying, she did not give us a receipt so we kindly asked her if we could know our number so we can receive our food when they called. Instead of giving it us or simply letting us know what our number was, she insisted that she already gave us our receipt. Her rude and nonchalant attitude was simply infuriating. Very nice soba, hot generous portion, with lots of ingredients......not expected for airport food. Celeb chefs have opened up satellite branches of their successful eateries at airports everywhere but when all one wants is a plain bowl of soba with no Top Chef medal attached to its maker, this humble stall in SFO delivered. The broth was hot, soba was nicely cooked. Service was prompt and the soba was warming as expected. You know I'll run to this Golden Gate staple every time I want a warming bowl of soup and have ample time at SFO. Sushi was a bit dry looking so I didn't grab any of those. You can get sushi, don, udon, and tempura here as well-- a lot to deliver for a small stand in SFO. The crowds come for a good Japanese plate or noodles here. Visits: 1 and hopefully more. Solid airport spot! I always get the Healthy Tofu Udon with a Seaweed Salad and enjoy it. I like how light the udon feels and the broth is delicious! Seaweed and tofu go well together too.
