I think it must be more of a bar or have a late afternoon crowd, because when we stopped by for lunch at noon, we were the only people there. (It got more crowded quickly). The service is good. The lemonade is pretty strong. We spit the chili verde. I really like their sauce. Perhaps it could have been spicier. The salsa, guac, and chips were excellent. The people inside are patient and kind , you can tell that they take pride in what they do. I ordered a lime margarita on the rocks and a chicken fajita salad. The margaritas come in several different flavors such as lime, peach , and watermelon. They're large and flavorful, while still being budget friendly. The Fajita salad was delicious. It has an old cantina ambiance. We first walked in and sat on the bar since there seemed to be like a big meeting so we thought it was reserved which was weird because it was "Thursday Karaoke" but as we chill got a drink... I saw the waiter putting salsa back on the container from a table he just cleaned up and then, served from the same container salsa to a new table! Absolutely gross! Then, we realized it was a Christmas Party from a random company that decided to do it there because they have a sound system so they hog the microphone for their white elephant activity so at that point no one could do karaoke and the DJ couldn't say no. lol I'm dead... Santiago's is a wonderful restaurant and now one of our favorites for Mexican food. We hadn't tried it for several years and then decided to on a whim when we were in that area. The service is the best we've had at a sit down restaurant in a while. The staff is friendly and very attentive. Constantly checking in to see if we needed anything else. The food was excellent, great flavors and a very large menu. The prices are a great value, especially with the excellent quality. Plus margaritas are great and only $5! The inside is a little dated, but don't let that dissuade you- the food and service is top notch. They have bar area, a smaller dining area and also a back area for larger groups. read more

I've been coming here since Santiago's was on H st. I gave the owner my business for a long time and have always brought him business. When they moved to this location I was ecstatic! It's so close to my job! Sooooo the girl with the glasses is the worst server in world! I've had her serve me plenty of times and she was always bad but Pancho, the brother of the owner, was always there picking up her slack so I never complained until today! She sucks and not in a good way! This instance, she never offered me chips and salsa or even took my order until Pancho told her to take my order! I ordered a modelo with a salted rim. She made it in front of me and forgot the salted rim claiming she doesn't know how! Like seriously, this girl is incompetent! So Pancho had to do it and she told her to put my order in which was shrimp cocktail. Then he left for a dentist appointment and left her and a new guy in charge. Big mistake! I should have walked out then and there. So I'm waiting, and two male customers walk in and she starts razzing the one guy (love interest, boyfriend? Idk) mind you that was 15 mins after I put my order in. She spends all of 10 mins giving the guy crap (flirting?) and there were other tables waiting... So now I've been there 30 minutes (on my lunch hour) and still no shrimp cocktail.. but the guy she was flirting with received their food which was a taco plate! So I say to the guy she was flirting with that maybe I need to come here more often to get faster service.. he's super uncomfortable. She is playing on her phone standing in front of him blah blah blah, I finally said, "is the cook almost done with my order cos I want it to go since it's been 30 mins?" She asks the cook and he tells her he hasn't made it. Makes me think she never put my order in. So I said cancel my order and close out my tab. So I ask the new guy what time does Santiago come in and he tells me. And in front of her I ask him when does she work, as I pointed to her and he said idk. So I pipe up and tell him that I never want to come in when she's there. He's begging me at this point to give them another chance. I don't know if I will but if I do I hope it's never when she's around. I don't know if she's a relative but this girl is lazy as sloth and worthless! I pray she changes her attitude cos it sucks! Food: The food was actually pretty good, not bad food for the price you pay. I had the Fajita Burrito, good rice and beans. Service: Service was pretty poor despite the restaurant being mostly empty and us being the only ones there. Food took a while and the server was slow to come around. Atmosphere: The building needs some serious work, tables were wobbling back and forth and the lighting is pretty low and honestly depressing. Colors are bland. I went to the men's bathroom but the server stopped me and said I can use the women's restroom instead- I'm assuming the bathroom was pretty dirty because the door looked dirty already. First time eating here today, we initially wanted to go to Los Molcajetes but they are closed due to some plumbing issues. I almost went to Agave around the corner but decided to try someplace new. Definitely won't be back. Where do I begin? The place looks terrible. Like they started to remodel but quit halfway through. Rips in all the upholstery. I will say that it looked clean, just shitty and dingy. The only exception to this was the bar, which was solid wood and nice looking. On to the food. Salsa was good and spicy. But I ordered the NY steak and shrimp, cooked medium. First off, it was cooked well done which you have to actually try to fuck that up. Oh and secondly, it wasn't a NY steak! It was a chuck steak! I know my cuts of beef, and this was not a NY, but you better believe I paid a NY price. Steak was dry and flavorless because it was overcooked. Vegetables were microwaved. Side salad that came with it was fine, but I was never asked what kind of dressing I wanted, they just throw ranch on it. Service was bad and slow considering there were only two tables. My server sat at the bar texting the whole time, which is a terrible look. The only highlight of the meal was she was pretty fine, little short thick girl with glasses and blue streaks in her hair. I ordered 3 meals, including arroz compollo, a meal that frequently comes without rice and beans at other establishments. However, I wanted rice and beans and noticed that, on their menu, the dish was on a list whose heading noted rice and beans were included. Not trusting this, I asked the sever if these sides were indeed included with the meal. She turned the menu so she could read it and told me that they were included, as if I can't read. But when I got home, there were no rice and beans. Go figure. On the positive side, they included chips and salsa. But a handful of the chips were old. Really old. I used to be a bit of a Sunday morning regular here before it was Sanitago's - so when I woke up Sunday morning with the most intense craving for chilaquiles, this establishment came to mind due to the memory of chilaquiles past. It was 9am and we phoned in an order for 2 plates of red Chilaquiles. They said 10 minutes, and I think I was there in 7- I didn't even brush my hair. When I came in, they were still being prepared and I was so happy and could almost taste their deliciousness. When I got home, I was not disappointed upon opening my styrofoam to-go container. It was all in place, just how I remember.. complete with slices of fresh avocado on the top, sour cream and salsa on the side. SOOOOOOOO good. It is the BEST feeling when you have a mad craving for something and then you finally eat it and the flavors are all on point and everything is right with the world. Yah, I really love food- don't judge me. I will definitely be back to Santiago's. I like the ambiance, the service is friendly, and their Chiaquiles came through and passed the test. Just finished a delicious lunch at Santiagos. I had the 2 fish or shrimp tacos lunch. My companions had the fajita taco salad, and the beef fajitas. We all enjoyed our meals. 1st off I felt out of place right from the get go. We started to set at the bar and right away more than one person said we should set at a booth. The bar was totally open with only one other couple and an employee setting at the end stool. We ordered a beer while we looked at the menu and the bartender brought us some chips and salsa. The salsa was actually very tasty, chips were broken up and looked like the bottom of the bag. As we ate more waiting for our dinner I noticed there was some food embedded in the wicker basket. Hubby ordered fish tacos, I chose a Chile Relleno with a side of beans. The waiter brought our food and right off we noticed that the tacos had shrimp mixed in with the fish. That wasn't as bad as my order....the waiter noticed right away that the cook placed rice on my plate vs. beans so he took the plate back to the kitchen ... Well when he brought my plate back I cut into the pepper and noticed the cheese wasn't even melted inside. After a few minutes I was able to get the attention of one of the employees and asked how they cook my dish. His answer was very simple and somewhat understandable. He sad they make the peppers ahead of and refrigerate to cut down on time. He proceeded to say they microwave the peppers and sometimes they don't do it long enough since they are frozen and occasionally there cold inside. REALLY? Shouldn't they make sure the food isn't served cold and the cheese on top is at least melted Needless to say we will not be returning customers. I don't know why I told my husband we should try a different Mexican restaurant when one of our favorite restaurants Agave is right down the street. Bartender said they have been open a couple of years now....maybe they will get the hang of it soon. read more
