Went to Sanyo yesterday during their specials deal. The thing that was special was that I ordered a 4 piece crab item & when it arrived I was disappointed to find that it was 4 pieces of imitation crab (approx. 3" long) on 4 pads of rice (approx. 1 1/2" sq). We had 6 other items that were Ok but have had better at Harris Teeter. Only reason for 2nd Star was that the server was both attentive & courteous. read more

Chinese on the OBX??? This is the place to go! Excellent food! Go for Happy Hour sushi in the afternoon for 30% off. Somehow I always end up spending over $50 when we go, probably all that yellowtail I order :-) The lobster roll will melt in your mouth! Tempura squid is really good too! Love the green tea! Food was good. Service was very slow and food was brought out in random order. Poor 8yr old daughter received her app with her entree (30min later) and 7yr old had all her food and was done eating before others were served. Not as enjoyable dining experience as hoped. read more

We ordered takeout and it definitely seemed like more of a sit down restaurant. I don't know how the service is if you are dining in but it was fast takeout! The food was amazing. I would give it four stars but it was very pricey for the portion size. I wish it was half the price or double the portion for the current menu price. It is worth a try however! read more

ONLY FOR SUSHI. If all you want to eat is Sushi then this place is good. The sushi is pretty good - not super great, not the best ever, but pretty good. Everything else is pretty BAD. Based on other Yelp reviews, it's clear that people in Outer Banks and tourists here don't have really high standards for food other than fish, and this is no exception. My husband was happy with his sushi, but my mother's shrimp dish was completely inedible and my vegetable tempura went mostly untouched. Even the soda's tasted awful. One more bad outer banks meal to add to the list of yelp-inspired outings. We should probably just cook at home. read more

Really good sushi and a good selection. The volcano roll for example had a thin tempura and was lightly fried with a sauce that wasn't so overpowering that you couldn't taste the roll. The Outer Banks isn't exactly known for sushi, but Sanya was excellent. Great, fresh sushi pieces and creative tasty rolls. We had several pieces of Salmon sushi and the Sexy Beach and American Dream rolls. I give this Sushi place 5 stars for the Outer Banks area and 4 stars overall compared to the best Sushi places in major cities. Definitely the best sushi place we've found at the Outer Banks and worth a visit for lunch or dinner if you enjoy sushi! read more

Great dinner...way better than the other carry-out options for Chinese-style entrees and not any more expensive. Great kid options...my son adored the children's chicken lo mein (and it was a huge portion). Nice and clean, including the bathrooms. This is the best sushi in the OBX. Stopped here on our way home from vacation and had a fantastic lunch. Ordered Shumai, Volcano roll, and two other rolls recommended by the owner. We come here several times a year when we visit the area and the sushi is very tasty and fresh. The restaurant is very clean. Staff is pleasant and friendly. Great meal. We had a large party so I called ahead for reservations. Food was very good. Several folks had hibachi style food and liked it. Green curry shrimp was excellent. Key lime cocktail was fantastic as was the pineapple sake. Good place for kids as well. read more

Horrible. Another crappy OBX tourist trap. Just about every roll on the sushi menu has "crab stick" as an ingredient. Ewww. I ordered a roll with tuna as the main ingredient, it was replaced with salmon, with no mention to me. When I pointed it out to the waiter, he said "oh yeah, they do that sometimes". He did take it off the bill. The entrees were over cooked and run of the mill strip- mall china hut quality. We will not be back. read more

I have been to Asian Bistro on multiple occasions. I thoroughly enjoy there food. As a local I am happy they are open year round. There off season specials are a great deal. I have had there sushi and chinese food both are great. There to-go orders are fairly fast. I am usually waited on by the same women, whom is very friendly and courteous. I would recommend this place to locals and visitors. read more

Very friendly family atmosphere with outstanding sushi and sashimi. We come here every year we are on vacation and I think it gets better each time. There is a more traditional menu as well if you aren't into the whole sushi scene. My kids love the other food choices that they have. I love Sanya's. I eat there at least once a week. I generally have the Maki lunch special. That is a bowl of miso soup and two sushi rolls. They have a fairly large selection of Rolls to choose from. And that is only 7.99. Also the shrimp with garlic sauce is very good. Six or eight good sized shrimp depending on the size. And they don't overcook them, they cook them just right. They are very nice in there,you are always greeted with a smile, I like that. I work about a mile away and it is a great little break from work. I would highly recommend eating lunch there, you would really enjoy it. I don't really eat dinner out anymore but all of my friends who have eaten dinner there say they really enjoyed it. Even one couple that is rather picky when it comes to eating out said it was great. It's mostly locals eating there. It is sort of a locals secret. read more

Came to Kitty Hawk on vacation. On our last night of vacation we wanted hibachi for dinner. We searched on yelp and came upon Sanya Bistro having 4.5 star review. We called ahead to question how long the wait was for 10 people. The employee on the phone said we could be seated right away. Upon arrival we were and said we would be seated. We stood there and waited for 30 minutes to be seated (there was not many people in the restaurant). A little wait is understood when it comes to seating a large party. After sitting it took 20 minutes for the server to get our drinks. Once our food order was in we sat for another hour and a half waiting for our main course to come out. We sat down at 8:30 and didn't receive our food until 10:15. Once we received our meals they were cold and not tasteful. Our server was very apologetic, but we were very unsatisfied with our last dinner on vacation. I do NOT recommend spending money at this restaurant! read more

I moved here a year ago and the food has definitely gone down hill since then. I usually get the sushi deluxe and the last few times it hasn't tasted very fresh. I have continued to go there but jade stuck to sushi rolls as I can't get past the fact that their sashimi just tasted old. Last time I got the Manhattan roll. Craving eel I was really disappointed when my roll which according to the menu has spicy tuna and eel on top came with one measly piece of eel on only one piece of the roll. I asked the waitress and she said the roll only comes with a single piece of eel despite the fact that the menu says the roll is topped with eel. Like yah technically it was topped with eel. But typically if a sushi roll menu says a roll has something on top of the roll... it's the entire roll! Lastly the last time I ordered the sunflower roll it had some kind of imitation crab meat instead of the salmon that it is supposed to have. They keep using this stuff in place of the fish the menu says something has. I think they are trying to skimp out on stuff to cut costs and I'm hoping it's just a winter thing and in the summer the quality will improve. I eat here all the time and would hate if this place went down hill but if you are going to have an ingredient on an item on your menu... SERVE IT. read more
