I will say I was a little leery to try Sanya for the first time because of all the negative things I'd heard about the previous Asian Bistro that was in this location, but quite to the contrary our dinner was amazing! My husband and I went there for dinner and wanted to try a variety of things. We started with an order of edamame which was a tad over steamed, but still tasted good. We then tried several sushi rolls - Volcano, Disney, American and Lobster...all really, really good - especially the new Disney roll. Try it, you won't be sorry! The Lobster roll is an incredible plate presentation and the rolls are huge. My husband also got an order of Kung Pow chicken (lots of food, but figured we'd have good leftovers). The whole dining experience was amazing! From the welcoming staff and our very funny and attentive server Randy, to the taste and quality of the food, to the plate presentation and atmosphere...it was all top notch, and we will definitely go back again! Where do I even begin? We started off with some sushi, I had the eel and avocado and my boyfriend had the sanya roll, all i can say is wow. Not only did it taste amazing but the presentation was very well done. Next for main course I had the hibachi steak and lobster, it came with soup, salad, rice, vegetables, and lo mein everything tasted amazing. It is seriously the best I've ever had. My boyfriend had the fried red snapper served with rice and soup and topped off with a thai chilli sauce which he couldnt get enough of. I don't understand why this place isn't packed every day. They have happy hour from 2:30 to 5:00. My wife and I always order at least one volcano roll as well as a variety of others. The quality is superb and the wait staff is friendly. Everyone needs to come and try Sanya. read more

We had a good road food, mixed asian style lunch. I had some inventive rolls, a seafood soup which was chinese style.

We went strictly to get sushi. We were not let down. They had a nice variety and even had daily specials(buy one get one on certain rolls). The place was decorated like your standard Japanese restaurant, and the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Service was very fast and prices were right on the average. Sushi is good and fresh. Resturant and Bathrooms are clean. I always order Ikura (salmon roe) or salmon eggs to see how fresh the product is because I love it and its not a big seller. Sanya passed the test. Service was a little slow, but not enough to be a problem. read more

As others have said, I held off on going because of a really horrible experience with the previous people that were in this building (sorry, I admit it). I really wish I hadn't waited because I've obviously been missing out on a good thing. Went for the first time today and had some really, really good sushi for lunch. Chef was doing a fantastic job with some high quality ingredients. He has some really interesting looking speciality rolls on the menu - I had the Honey Sandwich Roll which was on special along with the Sushi Regular (variety of sushi pieces). Came out looking beautiful and tasting just as good. In addition to the quality food, all the staff I encountered were friendly & welcoming - great service. Last night my boyfriend and I decided to have Asian cuisine and we saw this place because we're visiting from out of town. It was close to where were staying so we thought it looked like a good choice. When we stepped inside we were instantly greeted and seated to our table. I loved taking in the scenery because it felt very calm, serene and inviting. It was dinner time and very quiet with people chatting at there own tables. The menu is easy to look at with exceptional food. Our appetizers consisted of a spicy tuna roll which we shared and it was so good that we're devoured it all up! I ordered green tea to drink and it was hot and yummy. My boyfriend ordered beef and broccoli extra spicy and he said that he loved his food! I ordered a Sanya sushi roll and it was one of the best tasting rolls I've ever had. Our waiter was very attentive and kind and gave us our space but tended to us at the same time. We left a good tip when we were done because we enjoyed everything about that restaurant. This was the first place I went to in the outer banks where I felt like I was ripped off. Our bill was over $200. We all ordered sushi and hibachi steak. The steak was chewy and bland. The plate was filled with some sort of odd flavored liquid, not your typical hibachi flavor. The egg rolls and lumpia were mush inside. They must have been frozen. The sushi was okay. We've been patrons of Haru (located in Chesapeake, VA) for years and often made the drive from the beach to Chesapeake just to get a good Sushi Dinner with good friendly service. When we heard the owners of Haru were taking over Asian Bistro and turning it into their own place and naming it Sanya, we could hardly believe our good fortune. We've been to the new Sanya restaurant 3 times since its opened along with guests each time and have found the food and service matches the great quality we loved at Haru. Yeeha! Guessing Tuesdays are generally more busy since other notable nearby sushi restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. Perhaps that's why our waiter was so rushed? They were busy but still, I didn't like feeling that I was being rushed out the door. I wanted to order dessert but waiter brought our bill before even asking if we'd like to order dessert. When we told her yes, 1 mango mochi ice cream plz, she said ok then brought back a hard as rock, medium size scoop of mango ice cream. Darn, not what I ordered. The sushi was fantastic! After seeing some sites that indicated this place was pricey we were skeptical - and even more so when we pulled up to an almost empty parking lot on a Saturday night. Well we decided to try it anyways because of some great yelp reviews and we're so glad we did. I had the spicy tuna and the Disney roll. My boyfriend had a tropical thunder and shrimp tempura roll. Oh my. This place was yuck. Lucky for them to be the only place open on Christmas Day. The staff did their best to accommodate customers. That part gets 4 stars but the food gets -2 stars. After a 40+ minute wait we got warm sushi and cold hibachi steak that looked like it was cooked by adding hot broth. The suschi rolls we received looked nothing like waht we ordered. It wasn't spicy and did not have any eel sauce. But had an abundance of fish eggs that I prayed didn't give us food poisoning. The best part was broccoli from my husband's hibachi. The crispy fried noodles they bring out before your meal were stale, and the noodles in my wonton soup were tough and chewy. Sushi was mediocre.
