You can really tell they use quality ingredients and put care into every pie they make. It's that kind of pizza where you immediately know you'll be thinking about it later. Honestly, I wish my wife and kids were here to try it with me--they would've loved it. I'm from California, and I can say I haven't had many pizzas back home that compare to this. It's that good. In fact, I ended up coming back a second time before heading home because I just couldn't pass up another chance to have it again. That alone should say everything. On top of the amazing pizza, the employees were friendly and welcoming, and you can tell it's a family-owned business that takes pride in what they do. It was founded by friends and business partners chef Tyler Demora and James Woodward. Demora has a culinary career with more than 20 years in the restaurant industry. He has worked in kitchens everywhere from as far away as San Francisco or France, or as close as Providence or New Haven. He also runs the Feelin' Saucy food truck which specializes in pasta dishes. Demora built his own pizza oven which he intended to use for a mobile Neapolitan-style pizza venture, but he simply couldn't get the oven hot enough. He then began to experiment with steel pan pizzas and crafted what he felt were Detroit-style squares with a thinner New Haven-style crust. He partnered with his childhood friend and former bandmate Woodward to start "Jam City" as a pop-up pizzeria. After some successful pop-ups outside The Cellar on Treadwell (a small performance venue), Jam City took over their kitchen on a permanent basis. In addition to the signature Detroit-style pies (which have musical-themed names), the menu also consists of salads, wings, chicken tenders, fries, garlic pretzel knots, and sweet fried dough balls. I recently sampled some of Jam City's delicious food. I had been hearing about their delectable Detroit-style pies for some time. On the evening I visited, The Cellar was hosting a 21+ musical performance. Since I had both of my young sons with me, I decided to order food to go. The pies that we tried were "The Timebomb" (Margherita w/ basil puree), the "Stratocaster" (Enzo's pepperoni, Calabrian chili hot honey), and the "Drum Solo" (carmies, spinach, crispy prosciutto, pesto). This pizza was ! I'm partial to New Haven-style apizza myself, but I've become more fond of Detroit-style pies in recent years and Jam City crafts an excellent take on the style. All of the ingredients tasted so fresh and delicious! We also tried their delicious "Garlic Knot Pretzel Bites" (honey mustard & Sunday sauce). I'll definitely be ordering from Jam City again.
