Awesome seafood. Fresh and great tastes. They have specials about every night that are a great cost and give up nothing on taste. The oysters and shrimp are to die for. You can things cooked however you want. Broiled, steamed, fried, baked, or whatever. Awesome place and the service is just as good as the food. Try to get there just as they open at 4pm to avoid the wait. Patio area is great place to site with a nice view of the water and bird life especially during high tide. Went to Sara J's for supper today. The service and food were excellent. It is a lil pricy. But, for the quality of the food and service, it was well worth it! Left full and satisfied. It is definitely better than many of the seafood buffets that cost as much or more. Adult plates ranged from $15-25 (not including the lobster that is higher, of course) I had the flounder, fried shrimp, and deviled crab. Wife and daughter had the shrimp scampi. All were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The boys both got cheeseburgers from the kids menu. The burgers were huge and were only $6.99 with a side included. Overall, this is a restaurant that we will definitely be returning to! read more

This restaurant blew me (and my family) away in all facets! Admittedly it has been a little while since we stopped here so I can't recall the individual dishes we got. What I CAN remember is that the salads were great, the entrees were excellent, and the hushpuppies were out of this world! The portions were huge and the prices were small. Really close if you are in Murrells Inlet. We went via golf cart and that was fun. The wait was about 45 min. Once seated, we waited a little bit to be greeted. The hush puppies are to die for, sweet not savory! The food was good, not great but good! Fresh for sure just not cooked amazingly! The service was ok, our waitress was nice just busy I think! Sara J's is my absolute most favorite restaurant. This has been a regular stop for my family on vacation for the past 10 years. We have been known to go here up to three times during a weeks visit. Sara J's is not a small restaurant. It has a nice inside dining area and then a covered deck with ceiling fans during the summer and heaters during the fall/winter. The way to prove for yourself that this is a good place is to show up any time after 5:00 during prime time or off season and there will be a long line waiting to get in. A lot of locals eat here as well as tourists. We have been when there is as long of a wait as 1 hr 45 min. My favorite meal on the menu is their sauteed shrimp. They are amazing. It is a PILE of shrimp that have been sauteed in butter, lemon juice, wine and other seasonings. They also do a sauteed scallops the same way. I would have to say that the top meals are the Sara J's Special which is a fried seafood combination, the ribeye and sauteed shrimp or the sauteed shrimp or scallop meals that I mentioned above. All of the meals start out with a basket of delicious hush puppies and honey butter. Most of the meals start out with your choice of salad or homemade cole slaw. I definitely highly recommend this restaurant to people visiting the Myrtle Beach area. read more

Everything was overcooked. People in our party had fish, shrimp, chicken, and steak, and it was all WELL done. It was overpriced also. My husband and I shared a plate, and it cost the same as when we went to a similar restaurant and got separate plates. The best thing was the atmosphere. The waitstaff was awesome but the outside seating was surprisingly dirty, especially considering the present need to be extra clean. There was trash all over the place, bird poop on the table and chairs, and the menus were filthy looking. For the price, ($20+ per plate) the food was very average as well. I ordered the fish of the day, Mahi Mahi and it was tough and chewy. As others stated, the portions were large, but I would prefer a higher quality, smaller portion. Being on vacation, I didn't have anywhere to take the leftovers. Others in our party enjoyed the combination plate and stuffed fish, but I myself would not choose to spend my money here again unless they made some major improvements to providing a clean environment. read more

My husband and I called in and ordered curb side to go while on vacation. First of all, I was very impressed with the friendly and quick service we received via curb side to go! Now for the food! We both got salads and they were loaded and so deliciously fresh!!! Plenty of toppings and dressing! My husband ordered the Polynesian teriyaki chicken and loved every bite. I ordered the seafood casserole and it was good, but tasted more like stuffing than seafood. It did have some shrimp in it, but I would've preferred it had more noticeable crab meat in it. Last night, I went to Sara J's. I got the shrimp and spaghetti, with white sauce. I was very well cooked and the shrimp was very flavorful and delicious. My meal also can with a full piece of garlic bread and a medium sized salad. Besides my meal, the restaurant was well evenly priced at around $10-$25, a meal. You also receive complimentary hush puppies, for FREE!!! Sara J's is also at a great location, with an "outside" screened eating area. The only downside of Sara J's was we had to wait around 45 minutes for a table.(but not that bad with 8 people to seat) Overall, I had a fantastic dinner, and I would definitely recommend going to this wonderful restaurant. read more

Our waitress was awesome and very knowledgeable. We had a larger group and she had no issue with separate checks. I love the fact you get an option how you want your dished prepared, broiled, steamed..etc. My scallops were pan seared to perfection! The crab cake definitely could have had more crab meat. My husband and I shared the pecan crusted Swordfish and it was delicious! I didn't personally care for the topping but the swordfish was amazing. Perfectly flakey and tender. We arrived early and there was a crowd, but fortunately there were a few open tables. We chose to sit outside. The atmosphere was typical of any fried seafood place, outdoor seating is nice. Unfortunately the food was not so good. Our meal began with chewy hushpuppies that tasted like they'd been reheated in a microwave. Salad was mostly bad, brown iceberg lettuce. My wife ordered sautéed shrimp and scallops-- definitely not fresh and so salty they were inedible. This was served with overcooked, over-salted rice. I ordered grilled catfish-- one of the few non-fried items on the menu. It was OK, but the two accompanying sauces were entirely too sweet. I tried to switch to tartar sauce, but it was also too sweet. My side order of steamed mixed vegetables was fine, but nothing special. Based on our experience tonight I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

People were friendly but it was so overly crowded it was very difficult to talk to anyone, including our waitress. The wait time we expected and it's reasonable considering how many people they cram in a tiny space, so make a reservation if you want to get around the wait. I am giving a 2 star because the food itself was ok but they have major room for improvement. We ordered ahead fully expecting it to take awhile considering we were order for a family of 16 on vacation. Our wait was going to be about an hour which was very responsible. We had ordered $300 worth of food. We arrived at our pick up time and our order was not ready. We asked multiple times while waiting for an hour after our pick up time if our food was ready to only be told they are working on it. They could never tell us how long. We finally made it back to the house and over half of our order was missing. They asked if I wanted a credit or if I wanted to come back like the not feeding multiple children in the house was an option. Needless to say after having to drive back to get the rest of the food I was able to eat my then cold and dry steak. The food was hot originally when we picked it up which tells me they did not start making our food until we arrived. A customer would appreciate a realistic time frame. If you guys are not able to keep up with carry out orders as well as your guest inside you should probably quit taking them. Really was a bad experience when started with realistic expectations due to it being a Friday and a lot of places are understaffed. Will not be returning and I suggest if you are trying to feed your family in a timely manner you tack a few hours to your pick up time and double check everything. read more

The worse meal/ experience I've had! We arrived a little after 7 on a Sunday evening with only a short wait to be seated (party of 5). Our drink orders were taken & arrived right away & we ordered dinners about 5 minutes later. 55 minutes later, I asked our server if he knew how much longer it would be until we got our meals -"shouldn't be much longer". 15 minutes later he arrived with a large food tray, stating "I have a tray full of piping hot food for you". Every meal was cold, not even close to being warm! Even the sides, rice pilaf & reheated baked potatoes were cold. The meals went to waste for the most part & most were about $30 so we expected them to at least be edible. Our server was indifferent & we left Sara J's 2 1/4 hrs later hungry, disgusted & about $300 poorer. Never again! read more

Perfect ending to a beautiful day on the beach! Seated outside on the spacious covered deck overlooking the water we had a lovely view of the setting sun. Our waiter Joe was eager to assist us and ably answered our questions regarding some of the entrees. Warm, savory hush puppies were brought out after we were seated to whet our appetites. Boiled shrimp on very fresh crisp salads, oysters on the half shell, crab soup and shrimp and grits were served in a very timely manner. Each was a very generous portion and all of us were delighted with our choices. Prices were reasonable and the variety of selections was wide. We will return often and highly recommend Sara J's to anyone visiting the Garden City area. read more

Not sure what the hype is. We went there expecting something different. Atmosphere is ok. We sat outside, but over in the corner they had piled a bunch of cooking paraphernalia, as if they stored their catering stuff there. I got super excited about their "famous" sara js low country seafood boil. Shrimp, CLAMS, corn on cob, andouille sausage and potatoes. I'm used to the boil being in a broth. This had none. Then I started looking. Hey....where are the clams? I called the waiter over. He said "oh, yeah. I guess I should have told you. They took the clams out of the boil. They just haven't changed the menus yet". I said I was really looking forward to the clams. He said maybe he could find some mussels or something for me (???) I passed. Taste of boil was ok, but to call it famous? (If you want a good boil, try sea captains house). I do have to admit. The shrimp in it were epic. I've had lobster tail that was smaller than these monsters. They saved the day. Lori had chicken with pineapple on it and it had melted cheese over it. She said it was good. Why two stars, and not one? The size of the shrimp, the waiter was over all, terrific, and the big basket of hush puppies were delicious. When we went out, there was a couple taking a pic of our car. So disappointed in my Sara J's experience on Tuesday. Arrived to a sparsely occupied restaurant and after a short wait our party of 10 was (almost) seated at a table large enough for six. We had to request a larger table to which they promptly obliged. Drink service was slow but considering we were a larger crowd and ordered alcohol , it was no big deal. It was annoying, however, to see 2-3 staff standing behind the bar with their arms crossed instead of helping our waitress. Hush puppies are served with butter and honey as a complimentary appetizer. A great gesture. Unfortunately the butter was cold and the hush puppies left much to be desired. Our group had shrimp, flounder, grouper, scallops, and the Mahi Mahi special. The shrimp and Mahi were delicious. Everything else was just really bad. Flounder and grouper were cold and rubbery. Scallops literally looked like someone had regurgitated on a plate. The cocktail sauce tasted like it was made with teriyaki instead of ketchup. It lacked enough horseradish and was extremely sweet. Further, one in our party found a fly in her margarita. It appeared to have been in the ice. We did have a great server and appreciated her attendance to our group, but doubt we will ever be back which is a shame because this place used to be so fantastic. read more

Should be zero! Worst dining experience in my life ... service was good ... the food was literally un-edible! 3 local couples went mid-week for a simple meal and were all hugely disappointed! The green salad (mostly iceberg lettuce) arrived with 2 rings of red onion, and a delicately placed saltine cracker (still wrapped in plastic) that must have been their version of crouton ... fine dining on the marsh ... not! How can you screw up pasta marinara? The linguine was so overcooked that it fell thru the tines of my fork. Placed my napkin over the plate and quietly sipped my $2.79 ice tea! The house did discount 2 of the worst meals ... just remember there are plenty of other better dining choices in Garden City ... go to McDonald's and save a bunch and haver a better meal! read more

Tourist Trap, no local seafood, mostly frozen, fried, microwaved and extremely overpriced. We stopped on a recommendation, didn't have the chance to check YELP! before sitting down. The views are good, the service is fast, for the most part the food was horrible. Hush Puppies were fine. The salads were all hearts, 2 cucumber slices, 2 cherry tomatoes. The children had the grilled cheese sandwiches, Thick Texas toast bread with a slice of cheese, barely melted. The Flounder was so over fried there was no flakiness left, hard rubbery even ketchup couldn't make the dish palatable. The pasta marinara with scallops and shrimp was soggy.
