This place is very charming. The service is absolutely terrible. You can order a drink and hope it comes within 30 minutes. Servers are unapologetic about the slow service which makes it even worse. Great food though. read more

Went here for brunch this weekend off of a friend's recommendation. I tried the blueberry ricotta pancakes and didn't think they were anything special - basically just your average pancakes with some blueberries and cream on top. Where do I began?! Came to this restaurant (a term I will use loosely) through a work event about a week ago. The food was good. We waited an extended period of time for the food however we had a group of about 7 of us so I didn't think much about it. However we all had a pretty good time. I was empresses enough to bring my partner who has heard if this place but has never been, to this restaurant to try it out. Showed up last Thursday and was seated. I noticed that what I wanted was not on the menu. So once our server finally came around to help us, he'd advised me that what I wanted was only on the lunch menu and advised me to come back... even though I was there at that time. So we took some time trying to figure out what we wanted. The dinner menu was limited so the choices were not as great. My partner ordered the pizza, but I choose to get the meatball. But in order to get this, we had to track down our server... again. So at this point I was annoyed as shit and slight embarrassed because I boasted about the food here and bring my partner along with me. Finally get our food and it was a about the size of a child's fist in a small bowl.. I was immensely disappointed. Really?! So I had to ask the server about adding some pasta... in which I could do but for an additional $15 on top of the $14 meatball. I didn't even want to eat it at that point. I was so turned off by the excuses and poor service. I was simply ready to go. When I ask to speak with a manager, I was told "Nobody is here". So you're running a restaurant without at least a floor manager to help assist?!?! "They're here sometimes, but not today". Wow. So when we went to leave, my partner left a tip. I specifically told him not to because of the service, but he left one anyway reluctantly. As we were leaving the server who served us when he felt like it, didn't even speak. How disrespectful. I thought it over a couple of days and decided to call them just to let them know. I was trying to refrain from putting up such a poor review because like all human beings, you can have a bad day. So I thought calling in, explaining what happened will give them an opportunity to hear me out and solve the solution. Well, that shit didn't happen. I call in last night to finally get the manager, Arvo.. I'm sure the spelling is incorrect. They were busy... you can here the customers in the background. So I asked him, is now a good time to talk because I sounds as if you're busy. He stated the next time he will be able to talk is on Tuesday. So now is the time. So I proceeded to tell him what happened. He had an answer for everything! His story directly conflicted with what I was told when I was there. Then he literally rushed me off the phone saying "I'm busy, right now. Send me an email so I can give you a better response!" Yet at the beginning of the call I asked him was this a good time and he encouraged it! I just had to hang up the phone. I just couldn't engage with such negativity. So here's what I've concluded about this place. 1. There's no check and balances. Any person(s) who with no hesitation, openly talks to customers that way clearly has no fear of being reprimanded or 2 the owner simply doesn't give a damn. We are all allow to have a bad day, however blatantly disrespecting me being a paying customer was a complete turn off! I don't care if the food was free, I will NEVER go back to this disrespectful ass place again! read more

The restaurant IS blazing hot, especially near the front. But if you navigate your way to the rear, it is noticeably cooler and the space is beautiful too. I went last week with one friend and two bottles of wine. He ordered a pizza that he said was very good. I ordered the swordfish, but was told they were out. However, they substituted grilled tuna (which wasn't even on the menu) and it was lovely. Not only was the food delicious, but it took just 10 (maybe 15) minutes for it to arrive at our table. The waitstaff was attentive, competent, and downright pleasant. What a refreshing addition to the neighborhood! I'm looking forward to an expanded menu in the future. read more

The first time I tried this place in August it was pretty good, but I went there with my wife tonight, seriously, yuk! I ordered the prosciutto funghi. I sent the first one back because it was burned. The next one came and it was less burned but still pretty charred in spots. I understand that this type of pizza is supposed to be crispy, but not burned. The prosciutto tasted like oscar mayer cold cuts and the mushrooms tasted like they came from a can. I was dissapointed, My wifes Pizza was burned as well. The service was not great either. I will not go back. read more

I've been to Saraghina at least ten times and have gone there with large parties to celebrate birthdays, but they may be losing me. Bigger crowds and inexperienced and snooty wait staff made the last visit less than pleasant. Add to that, the pizza was undercooked and not nearly as good as usual. I'm giving four stars based on past experience and hope they manage to cope with their success. read more

I was not impressed with this place. I ordered a pizza, and it was bland. I paid $18 for a pizza, and I threw out half. Bleh. I called ahead for a pick-up, and I was glad I did not have to stay there to eat my bland pizza. I got there and was not impressed with the place. 4 solid stars, sadly, holding back a quarter star due to cash only policy. that said, this place is lovely with a charming decor that mixes european flea markets with rustic hudson valley weekend getaways. you'd never guess that the back dining area was once a garage or that the front of the house was a greasy-spoon fast food establishment. or so our waiter said, and charming as he was (as was everyone working there, actually, easy on the eyes, too), i might believe him anything. thankfully, we heeded his suggestion that the pizzas were large-ish by some standards even though they were considered personal-sized. don't know who polishes off a whole pie by themselves because we had 2 pies split 4 ways, and really, there was little room left in my tummy for more. though i really wanted there to be because the pizza was tasty with the right kind of thin, charred pillow-y but pliant crust and topped with simple but honest (and yummy) ingredients. pizza deep in bed stuy beats greenpoint's hands down. read more

As a neigborhood resident, I was happy to see Saraghina arrive. I've been twice since they opened. I won't be going back until I see the NYC DOH letter grade of C upgraded on the window. They have 33 violations, which has increased from 2 during the first DOH visit. There were multiple violations listed in RED which is a huge no-no. I also don't like the feeling of being "transported to another place [read: neighborhood/city]" as everyone else seems to enjoy who posts here. This is Bed-Stuy, and I believe the neighborhood lends itself to a restaurant rather than detracts from it. I hear now that the owner is leaving to open another restaurant. Hopefully he is leaving behind a manager who can clean up their acts and get rid of the vermin. It would be nice if they could hire from the neighborhood where they operate also. I support local business because they are there. I pay my money and I purchase their goods or services. Today I fired myself from being a customer here. I started my order, the person helping me picked up the phone turned her back to me and spent five minutes on the phone even though her associate was next to here. Then I asked to leave a cash deposit on what I wanted but I want to go to try their restaurant and could they hold the bread for me. More eye rolling, no answer. She rang up my bread and gave me change. More eye rolling. Then Im called rude. Excuse I pay your for over priced stuff, not that its that good, it ok, because you are in the neighborhood. Then Im called nasty. She has had an easy life and has no idea what nasty is. So Im firing myself from doing business with them because they only want to give you money on their terms. I don't want you to like me, I never want to see you outside of this establishment, Im not your friend, and quite frankly i don't truthfully care. I just want to get out of your shop as soon as possible, if you delivered i wouldn't be there at all, that being a moot point. The epiphany that I should do business with this establishment is that they gave me the wrong bread, which means they gave someone else the wrong bread. The cost in time to return it isn't worth it, its not that good. Besides its probably my fault. If you wan to be a fashionista work at some high end brand, be that shop women in "Pretty Women". If you are practicing to be a CONDINASTY you don't do that in ghetto in Brooklyn. Grow up your not. I just want my bread and cheese. I don't want your opinion, unless i ask, I want facts. soooooooo....i have had many subpar dinning experiences here, all revolving around nonchalant service. the food has always been a hit in my mind. yesterday the service was so horrible that i decided that good food was not enough to keep me coming back. myself and another waited for a hour and a half for food only to realize that the server was never going to notice that we did not receive our meal. we had to ask for any and everything we needed, which was water and coffee, because thats all we were given during our loooonnngggg wait for lunch. which is cool; i mean shit happens, sometimes you just drop the ball. what really did it for me was the way the two employees responded to my stating that the food never arrived and its been a hour and a half. the first one said, let me check and never returned to us, the second one who was actually the girl who took our order, came by and said," sorry bout that, we will take your coffees off", then walked off like she just did us a favor. Hey owner, im telling you this because you guys food program rock !!! your service program is by far the worst ive seen, and this is coming from a guy who has been in the food industry for years, so going to yelp to vent is not what i do. i hate yelp !!!!! sorry yelp. im only hoping that more restaurants will open up in our under served neighborhood, maybe then you guys will pay more attention to service. read more

Lame. I sat at the bar, a few min after 6pm, to grab a cocktail while I waited for friends who were to join me for dinner. The bartender on duty had a passive aggressive attitude and only made me a cocktail begrudgingly after initially ignoring me for a good 10 min. It was clear to me from the way he made zero attempt to take my order that he did not want to serve me for whatever reason. What reason that could possibly be was not made clear until I got tired of waiting for him to ask to take my order and decided to yell out what I wanted before he could walk away again. After I finally ordered he told me that the hostess shouldn't have let me sit at the bar to wait for my friends because it's slow at that time (????) I found the whole situation to be very odd and confusing since the restaurant opens for dinner at 5:30pm and it was now after 6pm so there shouldn't have been a problem serving me wherever I chose to sit wether it be at the bar, in the backyard, etc. I did a double check to see if there were maybe some special bar hours that I might have failed to take note of on their website and found none. To top it off he complained audibly to the hostess about me sitting there. No customer wants to come in to spend hard earned money at an establishment where they are going to be scolded and begrudged. To top it off the cocktail was not good. Not surprising since I wasn't deemed worthy of being served in the first place. read more

My friend and I visited Saraghina earlier today around 2 pm, there were maybe 3 or 4 other occupied tables and we waited almost a half hour for our very simple order: a margherita pizza and burger with fries. The burger and fries were fine, the margherita had about 2 basil leaves on the entire pizza. One of the reasons to order margherita is because of the fresh basil, but whatev. Our main complaint is the service--the server kept spacing out while taking our order and i had to repeat it several times. We finished eating and he walked past our table numerous times for about 15 minutes-and mind you, this was still during a weekday late afternoon, and it was NOT very busy. In his 6 or 7 times walking past our table to talk to other patrons, he never once checked with us if we wanted more water, wine, etc. Then another genius came over to a desk drawer that was right next to my friend, opened the drawer, she moved over and this doofus says 'nah that's ok you're good' and walked away. After he walked away she told me the drawer HIT HER LEG. I truly wanted to smack the ish out of him. So I didn't leave a tip, and wrote on the check that their service sucks. The last time I was in this place it wasn't quite this bad, but we had the same server both times and both times he acted like we were invisible. The first time I visited Saraghina the service was fantastic, but this third time was it for me-never going back. read more

This place can be good or can be bad depending on when you go, and what you are trying to do. I've been here twice and had totally different experiences. Both times I sat in the back on the outdoor patio which is a must. The outside decor is really cute, almost feels like a secret garden. Much nicer then inside, and is one of the main selling points of this place. The first time I went was for dinner and was good (would've given 4 stars). Got pizza and wine and sat and talked, ate, and drank for hours. The second time I went was for a weekend lunch and was bad (would've given it 2 stars- the second star for the ambiance alone). Got the calamari sandwich (no flavor, don't get it!), and my friend also didn't like her grilled veggie sandwich. Service was EXTREMELY slow and poor. Never saw our waiter again after he took our order. Had to keep flagging down other waiters passing by. Overall, just a bad experience. After talking to some folks who live in the area, they confirmed this: service is slow here. Only go when you just want to have a slow chill, hang and eat experience, and expect to spend a long time. Also, stick to the pizzas- they are good and the other stuff isn't. read more

I have to give Saraghina zero stars because I never received my food! That's right I arrived there with my 3 daughters; a waitress came and took our orders. I ordered the Norwegian. After about 15-20 minutes my family was served their pancakes and home fries. I was served nothing. The runner apologized and told me my order was up next. 10-15 minutes later the runner and a waiter came out with not one but 6 plates of food and not one of them was mine. By this time I was completely annoyed. I called the waiter over to ask what happened to my order. He assured me that it was coming. After another 10 minutes, the waiter and runner came out with two more plates. Neither of those was mine either. 5 minutes later the waitress who originally took our orders came over to apologize and to inform me that she just placed my order. Needless to say my appetite was gone. I looked around the table and my daughters were 3/4 of the way through their meals. I have never been treated this poorly. I cancelled my order. While waiting for the check, the waiter came out with my Norwegian. Talk about adding insult to injury. The staff needs to brush up on their communications skills. I am not from New York; I was visiting my daughter, who felt horrible about the whole situation. Saraghina left a bad taste, Oh excuse me...no taste in my mouth. read more
