I've never written a review for the million places I've eaten at, but after eating here I'm compelled to do so...Why? Because, this is the first Indian restaurant that had a decent ambience, no smell, clean silverware, uniformed wait staff, clean restrooms, some-what of a prompt service, well-lit and decorated, and good food. I loath going to Indian restaurants, I almost never ever do...and this place too, I was a bit hesitant about. However, after ordering their dosas (2 paper masala dosas and 1 onion masala dosa) my family and I were pleasantly surprised by the quality of their food. The interior decor and design was well thought out too, warm colors and matching furniture, spacious and modern/ contemporary light fixtures. The 4 drawbacks of the experience were - their sides for the dosas were limited - there should either be refills or larger portions. Second, one of our dishes took almost an hour (a paneer dish my brother ordered)-we had to eventually to-go it. Third, they need to have a napkin box on each table because dosas can be messy to eat through. And lastly, the wait staff should come by at regular intervals to check on instead of being waved over. Its the best South Indian Vegetarian restaurant there is. Not just Dallas but anywhere they go, they ensure the same good quality on food and customer service. Been here 3 times - Only Once was I waiting!! On New Year's Day came in at 2:30PM - had to wait for 1 hour to get seating (8 of us). The other 2 times I always timed it early - 11:30AM for lunch, 7:30PM for Dinner. If you come in after 12:30PM for lunch or after 8PM for dinner on a weekend - you will definitely WAIT.....for a long time. The chairs are very close to each other, so you will bump somebody invariably. Food is absolutely delicious - our favorite is executive thali. One of my friends used to work here and the most disturbing news was the TIPS that you put on the credit card receipt NEVER reaches the employees - ALL of it goes to the owner i.e. you paid more for your food!! So I don't tip on the credit card but I give cash to the waitress directly - Don't leave on the table. read more

Not much more to say here than what everyone else has already mentioned. Slow service and they will give you every excuse in the book about why you waited 30 minutes for your bread to come out after you have munched on your dinner and basically lost your appetite waiting to eat it properly. I also found it a little more pricey than other places with a similar menu, it might be the location. We had dosa at this place, it was a very bad experience. It is always over crowded. We ordered rava masala dosa and it was burnt, they did not serve water until we asked them. For a price of $10 for a dosa the sambar, chutney is very very little , you have to ask them for more if you need. The service is very very poor. Love this place. Food is great and service is great too. I ordered lunch combination plate with all the small dishes on the side and it was incredible. I also ordered Dosa as well. Both of them were good. If each dish was $1 cheaper, I would have given solid 5 stars, but price is on the higher side for the food you get compared to other Indian restaurants. read more

Pathetic Service, the people are not at all accommodating for supporting allergic guests. seems like the people at Saravana Bhavan are head strong. Had bad experience today(7/19), today we ordered cheese dosa but asked to provide cheese on the side, these people are so head strong that they will not do that rather indicated to go try somewhere else...so so horrible customer service. They don't understand that we asking for kid and kid has allergic and we were trying to avoid contamination, still the head strong and rude server wasn't accommodating at all in spite of telling them to charge whatever he needs to.....very frustrating experience....will never ever go there and will make sure that all our friends know about these kind of attitude issues with sarvana bhavan people. So happy I finally stopped by this restaurant! The food is absolutely delicious. My favorites (so far) are the Butter Masala Dosa and the Mushroom Manchurian. I'm not a very high maintenance customer, but for those it matters to...the space is clean and modern, the staff is very attentive and understanding of people who aren't well-versed in Indian food AND our food came out crazy fast. We just finished a late lunch here. We got the butter dosas that were perfectly crispy and buttery. Apart from enjoying the dosas, we really appreciated the service. We got to the restaurant just as they were about to close and they accommodated us anyways. Even though the kitchen had closed, they brought us fresh dosas one at a time so they wouldn't get cold. They also kept bringing us additional chutney and sambhar very generously. The manager, Mani, personally brought out whatever we requested and we really enjoyed our experience here. read more

Go there one day in advance and order ur food. They take for ever to take order and then a decade to get the food served on ur table. They are just trying to sell the brand, which is so reputable in Tamilnadu, India. The staff in Plano location is either tired of over working or nor listening to the customers properly. We were not hungry yesterday, bust still went in yestrday just to enjoy the Sharavana Bhavan special coffiee. Ordered 2 serves of Meduvada, 2 special coffiee and Channa Battoora to eat in and 2 serves of meduvada to take home. Teh vada came uncooked inside, did not deliver Channa masala, when asked, they said it is in the parcel,thought its ok, may be we did not make the order clear. Paid $50 altogether, paid tip , went home opened the take home pack and found no channa no battoora, only vada was packed.
