I just missed Starbread's closing time by few minutes. So, I came and picked up desserts here as a last resort. Oh how disappointing! Nonetheless, I met the nicest lady. Their pastries and desserts are probably delicious and more fitting to the general public. However, to those that knows my preference, and distaste for overly sweet desserts, would understand that this place is a definite NO for me. To say the least, all the items I got here were all too sweet. Additionally, it looks like it's been sitting there all day that the glaze coating on the desserts melted and soaked in to the pastries. I personally prefer freshly baked goodies, and no other way. I met the nicest lady, albeit the unpleasant experience. She was so charming and friendly. She kept handing me free samples, one after the other. I enjoyed conversing with her. I have been here multiple times but this time my partner and I came here tonight we got one piece of knafeh and a couple other things but the knafeh was rotten, watery and cheese was curdled and bad, and other things we got were old and dry and so was the sample the lady gave us in the store. Idk what is going on but u guys need to really try and step it up more. I'll be back and hopefully next time it's better. In a small strip mall next to Zankou chicken and Ding Tea in Anaheim is this middle Eastern bakery with probably the best baklava I've ever tasted. There are a lot of variety here! The best part are the samples that they provide. I've been her twice in the last 2 months and it's wonderful that the woman helping me creates a mixed variety box of various baklava. They also have savory pastries/puffs, cookies, and cakes. The pricing is also good and the quality always fresh and satisfying. My boyfriend really likes baklava and he has even said that this place is really good. Boxing comes in different sizes and they charge per weight. Lots of parking also available. I believe most days during the week they close at 7pm, and are currently open for takeout only during quarantine. read more

It's a great little bakery, filled with tons of desserts to choose from. The people working behind the counter are sweeter than their desserts, they answered all my questions with a lot of patience, and recommended me a ton of new desserts I haven't tried yet. They sell baklava by the pound, so it ended up being cheaper than many other baklava places. The baklava was delicious. It's sweeter than the baklava I normally like but it's so crispy and buttery it doesn't really matter. You can choose the type you like, or just ask for an assorted amount. The finger baklava was my favorite of the bunch. The maamoul (stuffed cookies with powdered sugar dusted on top) was recommended to me by one of the ladies working there and it ended up being my favorite overall. They had walnut, dates, or pistachio maamouls (all were good but the pistachio one was phenomenal) The kataifi baklava was gorgeously made and very very decadent. Extra sweet, extra buttery. If you normally like zoolbia and lokhoom (basically fried dough glazed in sugar and butter) then you will probably like it here. They were crispy, and gooey, and can be sold in platters so it's perfect for parties. I prefer my dessert not as sweet so it wasn't my favorite. The patrons of this business were really nice too, which just goes to show how welcoming the business is. The lady in line in front of me gave me samples of her dessert, lol, and gave me all the names of the desserts I was curious about. And I was basically ushered into the store by a very enthusiastic man who bought around two grocery bags full of desserts (I was loitering around the storefront waiting for my ding tea order). Anyway, great shop, and worth checking out. Especially since this area is chock full of goodies. There's a starbread bakery three doors down (zing!), the aforementioned ding tea next door and a zankou chicken on the other side...and if you stop by at night the taco stand on ball and magnolia sell great Al pastor tacos. read more

I am not from the area and I was passing by this place. I was craving kenafeh with cheese, so I decided to give this place a try. Once I entered, I found various desserts. I bought kenafeh with cheese, basbousa, qatayef filled with walnuts, jalebi, other kenafeh filled with Brazilian nuts. Everything was delicious. I enjoyed every single bite. The lady was super nice. I didn't know which Basbousa I chose because there were different types. She gave me and my husband sample from each one to try. I cannot wait until next visit to Anaheim to try other desserts. Sooooo good!! Making Baklava at home can be fun sometimes but to have a spot close by to get your fix is lovely! The parking lot can be a bit chaotic but I park further out and it's easier. The women working there are sooooo nice and they even let us have some samples as we were choosing! It is all personal preference but we definitely prefer the pistachio over the walnut pieces and the little rectangles were our favorite. I love coming here for the Baklava - just don't make the same mistake as me and ask for a pound of it because it's definitely more that you think. As far as bakeries go, this place serves it all. I tend to go here a lot on Sundays while doing laundry at the laundromat down the plaza, and it never disappoints. The workers are really nice and there are always people coming in and out, leaving with a bag or box of treats. For a local joint, this place knows how to accommodate to the area. In short: Finest pastry in OC. I have tried many, if not all other places, and there are many contenders in the neighborhood and elsewhere. Yes, some shops have one good sweet or another. At Sarkis almost everything is good or better. Especially good are European style layered cakes (tarts / tortas), which require mastery of all baking skills. (I know, I've tried and am still working on it :) Also, prices at Sarkis are very reasonable, lower than at many other places. Finally came to Sarkis upon recommendation by a friend of mine who lives all the way in New York. We were greeted upon walking in and were wide eyed considering the vast assortment of pastries. We ordered a one pound of assortment of baklava for $12 a pound. The baklava was delicious and lasted us two days. You can really taste the honey in each bite. I'm not an expert at identifying which baklava is which, but my personal favorite from the assortment was the diamond-shaped walnut baklava. The baklava assortment at Sarkis would be a hit at a party. Fortunately, Sarkis does offer baklava platters.
