The lady (owner I assume) was so nice and helpful with us. They sell all different kind of baklava and Middle Eastern sweets and desserts by the lb. simply delicious. We stopped by because Buddy Sam is looking to get a few pounds. for the work employees tomorrow's potluck. The Baklava is delicious with a rose water aftertaste. They have selections of birthday cakes by the slice or whole and different type of cookies by the pound. They also have Spinach Pies (Fatayer. I tired 2 different types of baklava here, one with walnut and the other with a mixture of nuts, both topped with pistachio. All I can say is WOW! This was the best baklava that I've tried. It was so fresh, light, and flaky. It had the perfect amount of sweetness. 5 out of 5 I also tried the chocolate éclairs and the custard was nice and refreshing. 4.5 out of 5 Then finally I tried the pistachio mamoul cookies and they were good also, may a day old, but still good. 4 out of 5. Conveniently located next door to Zankou Chicken, I couldn't simply pass up on dessert after having lunch there. Its convenience is fantastic! Plus, with ravings on Yelp and from Yelp friends, it was almost an obligation to stop by and see what all the hype is about. Now, this Middle Eastern pastry shop features a plethora of sweet concoctions from different shaped cookies and tasty eclairs to beautiful fruit tarts and BAKLAVA! We're not talking about just one type of baklava, ladies and gents, they carry several kinds of these babies that I've never even tried before. I always thought they were all made with the same type of nuts and just come in different forms and shapes. No, no, no, not here! Sarkis makes Baklava out of walnuts, pistachios, almonds, and even a combination of these nuts. I ordered a few of each kind and I may have some favorites, pistachio of course, I can't help but appreciate the perfectly flaky yet delicate phyllo wrap on each piece of baklava. The sweetness, taste, and texture were right on the money! I only wish the size was bigger. I took the sesame cookies home but those got completely wiped out before I had my hands on one. Five stars on a first timer visit - that's rare for me to give. But we were welcomed immediately when we entered. Three attentive ladies behind the counter. Gave us a couple samples of baklava, and a super sweet donut ball looking piece. Their display cases offered sugar highs from cookies, cake slices, mini pies, a huge variety of walnut and/or pistashio baklavas. The refrigerated case had numerous round cakes. All are very tempting. I thought about celebrating 'nothing' just to get a cake! What we walked away with amounted to... Well we behaved okay. What a little treasure this place is! Just like several other reviewers, this place is an absolute must after a visit to Zancou. A simple little bakery in a middle eastern strip mall it would be easy to not see this place when driving by if you have never been there before. Me and the family have tried many things in here but there are certainly items that are easily the best in our opinion. #1 - Macaroons - Light and puffy the macaroons that they have are very unique. They are two crusty, very light, coconut cookies sandwiching some jam. One thing to note folks, these are NOT the dense, chocolate covered overly filling versions. These are a wonderful and unique version of the macaroon that is a MUST at every visit. #2 - Pistachio baklava - They have many different types of baklava in here all displayed in their huge cases. I have never been disappointed in any of the pieces I have ever decided to try. My favorite overall though is the rolled pistachio version. They are little bit size pieces, about 1/2 wide and 1 1/2 inch long and filled with bits of green filling. They are covered in a bit of honey and flakey similar to all of their baklava. Why do I love them so? Well, as I mentioned they are bite size so the mess factor is reduced but similar to a Reese's peanut butter cup these little bites of deliciousness are wonderfully balanced. Neither the filling or the flakey crust is overpowering and they go very well together. Other items worthy of a mention. Excuse my ignorance on the names. I like the little fine threaded bird nest looking things. I know they are also considered baklava but they are a bit more dry but have an incredible texture to them. They are also filled with a nut mixture thatI think is also pistachio but not as finely ground like my little burritos I love so much. They have honey balls that are like little fried donut holes dipped in honey. These are like honey balls with honey and then more honey. Whilst I love honey, I think these are made for eating while drinking some tea. I have had many of the cookies and they are just fine but I would not likely go to Sarkis for cookies that are available elsewhere. Prices are incredible and let me tell you, if you are looking for a unique party platter or need something to bring to a dinner this stuff gets you rock star status. I think the baklava is about $7 a lbs and you can mix and match as you see fit. It's amazing how much you get for the price. Give'em a try!! read more

Whoops I forgot to write about this place :D Of course when you go to Zankou chicken next door, how can you not come here! I read some reviews about the service not being up to par BUT my service was spectacular as soon as I walked in! I was a typical newbie to these desserts, asking what's that, what's this etc etc etc. I never once got on the young ladies nerves. She was patient with me and therefore I bought I a lot of goodies. Believe me at first I was hesitant to come in because of some of the reviews spoke of unfavorable service. I received the polar opposite! Anywho I bought a various amount of cookies and treats! I can't recall of them, but everything I took home was merked anyway LOL. I will have to say the Pistachio and walnut baklava was the best. Also this white cookies with apricot jam were pretty damn good and my mom fell in love for these dome shapped cookies with chopped nuts rounding the cookie. Then afterward.. you know what... Sarkis! for some dessert. The women that work here are such sweethearts!! I came to pick up some baklava after having Lebanese food for lunch and I was greeted by the best customer service here. They answered every question I had, gave me advice on which desserts to pick, and talked to me about Lebanon. The desserts are $9 a pound which is very reasonable. As I was paying, the lady threw in a bunch of cookies for free because she said I needed to gain some weight and eat more.... if only she knew. It was almost scary walking in to this bakery in a strip mall that looks like it has seen better days... a decade ago. But the brighty lit bakery with the clean glass display cases put any uneasy feelings to rest. I know, Zankou is here too but still... Although I believe the name "Chocolate Chocolate Mousse" might not be the best name for the cake we bought, the cake is nonetheless pretty darned good! Not too bad for $22. Sarki's is a tiny middle eastern bakery in a dated strip mall in Anaheim. They sell a variety of cookies, pastries and baklava here, but of everything I've tried - I think their coconut macaroons and pistachio baklava are the best. The macaroons are two good sized cookies with apricot jam sandwiched inside - so soft, moist, and delicious! The pistachio baklava here is also superb. Flaky,crispy layers of phyllo dough surrounding pistachio nuts covered in syrupy honey. These can be addictive. The staff here are always kind. If you ask them what a cookie/baklava item is like, they'll give you a sample to try. Cookies and baklava are sold by weight. What a better way to finish off a meal at Zankou than with some dessert. Had I known about Sarkis before I would of been here in a heart beat, but either way I am super glad that I stopped on my last visit to the area. Lucky for I, I know someone with some first hand knowledge of Middle Eastern desserts, thus this became my go to when I stopped by at Sarkis. Her first tip was to try all the different Baklava's. All of them look the same and relatively have the same ingredients they are just in different shapes. I was told to try them and then decide on my favorite presentation of the Baklava. The little cup shaped ones with the pistachios on top were my favorite for sure. I also got to try some other desserts here. Have no clue on the names, but one of them looked like a small bread that had corn on the cob like markings and also the red sugar scribble like dessert. If you're wondering what to bring to a party this is the place to come. They have a HUGE tray of Baklava for $34. It's at least 4 pounds worth if not more. It's a variety of different types and since people are not expecting it it's a huge hit. The large group put a pretty big dent on the tray with plenty for people to bring home. They have a smaller tray for $20. It was very fresh and tasted great. Just be warned, it's sticky so you'll want to make sure you put something under the tray. Besides baklava they had a huge variety of pastries, cookies, and even cakes. The cookies and pastries were by the pound. My friend went crazy and bought a bunch of stuff to bring home for his family and it was only $8.
