I went to Sasha's for the first time last week. Some of my friends invited me and I was excited to say the least. I read so many positive reviews on Yelp and was looking forward to experiencing it myself First off, this was just for drinks (and a crepe) so the scope of my review is limited. We went on a Thursday night and were seated comfortably right away. I drink wine but I really don't know that much about it. Luckily one of my friends is, so she helped me order. I went with one of the cheaper Merlots on the list and was very pleased. It was easily the best wine I've ever had and will be buying it again. I have never been to a wine bar so I don't know how much weight this review has but I still highly recommend it. I also ordered a Crispin Cider. I like Crispin but I wish they had a wider variety of Cider's. The live band that was playing was loud but that happens all the time at bars. Oooooh I almost forgot! We did split a strawberry crepe. Cute little spot in the DeMun/Clayton area...BUT refuse to spend my money supporting a business that has become increasingly rude to patrons. Especially since covid, I understand all restaurants have policies but Sasha's in DeMun has the worst Mask Police policy's of any of the restaurants I have visited here and abroad. Walk to your table, wear a mask, sit down take off your mask, when the waiter suddenly appears at your table hurry up put down your drink or utensils and put on your mask. They bark at you like you are not a human. The tension that they have created with their terrible attitudes leaves one to believe that they hate their job, and act like they could care less that you are a customer. Food prep has been inconsistent, the chopped salad has been different almost every time I have visited. Even if the food was epic (which it's not) the service is horrible. Sad to see this place OFF of my frequented list. SEE picture, this should tell you something about the recent turn of events, ratings have plummeted. Great, great neighborhood eatery. Off the grid Clayton establishment that offers a phenomenal patio experience, live music, a great wine selection, and an upscale menu selection. Tuesday night, post work stop for dinner. Ran into old friends. Cocktails and dinner, great service, all and all an amazing impromptu evening. This is the kind of place it is. Dog friendly, even two menu selections just for the pups, great walk by traffic to observe, in an upscale Clayton neighborhood that has a lot going on. If you want to impress in a casual sense, grab a glass of wine, an appetizer or a casual dinner and sip and watch the world go by. You won't be disappointed. read more

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. I came here on a Thursday night at 7pm. I understand that there would be a wait, but if another party arrives after I do (with the same number of people that my party does) and puts their name in, I expect to be seated before them. This was not the case. When I went up to the host for the second time to check where my party was in line, I was informed that their party had arrived before us. However, they were still seated at the previous bar where we came from when we left to go to Sasha's. The host then offered to seat our party of 3 at a table for 2. My wife and I went here for a second trip and since it was a cool night in Clayton, we sat outside. I had the asparagus, crab, and avocado salad with a tequila cocktail. My wife had the Proscuitto and Italian Fontina crepe with a cabernet. The menus are iPads. This restaurant is just excellent. It's a few blocks from Forest Park and overlooks the grounds of Concordia Seminary. If you are in St. Louis for a quick trip and have one dinner, I think this is a solid option. While I prefer the Sasha's on Shaw over this location, I still love this place! I now live close enough to walk here (and subsequently stumble home). The patio is great on warm nights but it gets crowded, especially on the weekends. I find the best time to go is around happy hour. It isn't too crowded and the servers are not as overwhelmed. I still find service to be an issue at both locations. The staff is forgetful and you almost always have to wave them down if you need anything. They seem far more concerned with being hipster and emo than serving their customers. read more

Sasha's is by far one of my favorite places to go for a nice relaxing wine tasting and cheese plate afternoon/evening. Every time I go I always end up drinking too many glasses of wine and eating too many pieces of cheese and top it all off I always end up ordering their pizza. Sasha's has an excellent wine menu with lots of varieties and the majority of the time they know what they are talking about in terms of asking for recommendations. The pizza is great. The cheese plates are always great! I really love going to Sasha's to hang, kick back and have a few glasses of wine. YUM! read more

This is a nice semi upscale bar in the DeMun area. I got the trout and salmon crepe and it was delicious. They also make a really good sangria with floral notes that is probably the best one I've had. Everything here is always good, as I've been a couple times since I live nearby. The only issue I have is that it's a bit expensive for what you get. A can of 4 hands beer is $7, which I think is a bit steep, considering that you would pay less for a draft if you actually went to 4 hands. The quality of everything is good though, and I definitely recommend going and checking it out. read more

We stopped in here for just a quick glass of wine and some catching up... what a little gem this is. First the place is as cute as it can be! Then you add the wonderful service... then some awesome wine. And then phenomenal banana crêpe! As the evening progressed my friend and I got food and be from every plate the pacifier table. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for a relaxing evening out. Unpretentious and very comfortable. What they really mean is it's not your typical ober friendly neighborhood sports bar or your typical mediocre chain restaurant that seems to be the standard in our great city of st Louey with Mexicali Rose Tequila-Fried Buffalo Wings or the Five-Alarm Chili-Pepper Quesadillas with a side of Sesame-Seed-Grilled Tostadas and Margarita-Flavored Monterey Jack Dip. Instead, you will find a selection of about 60 wines, good tasting cheese plates, very nice crepes and good off-beat individual size pizzas. And it's not a "Euro" wine bar. It's a St Louis wine bar. It has a great atmosphere and definitely is a good place to hang out and have a conversation. The main things to consider are that it's pretty dark and loud. The food was delicious and the drinks were good, but the service wasn't great. They never checked in after we ordered initially, which made it difficult to order more stuff and get our checks. Because of this I'd say it's a good place to hang out for a long time, and you need to be ready to get the attention of the service. Overall though it's still a really fun and nice place with delicious foods. Would recommend going for drinks and dessert, their dessert crepes are amazing. read more

The patio is decent so might return for that sometime in the future. However, today wasn't good. Didn't realize they only serve the brunch menu on Sundays. I checked the website before we decided to go and no where does it say that brunch is only on Sundays. which was disappointing since that was the reason we came in Saturday. Paid $15 for a very plain crêpe only half filled with cheese and a few measly pieces of dried fruit on top. Definitely not worth of the price! I've been coming to Sashas for many years and have loved calling it my neighborhood bar. I visited last week and to my surprise I was handed paper menus, not the nice iPad like in the past. The iPad was much easier because it had pics of the food, detailed descriptions and tasting notes for wines. My friends and I would always refer to the menu once we tasted the bottle ordered to see if our thoughts on the wine was the same as the tasting notes, it almost became like a game to see who came the closest in their description. The wine is not cheap here but I love the staff and vibe of the space, great wine and service minus the typical Clayton pretentious attitude. Now if they could just bring back the iPad, the paper menu seems cheap especially since it's on basic stock printer paper. read more

It appeared someone had already drank half of her wine, leaving about three swallows. The guys agreed. This is a wine place, so not good to skimp. If you go, buy the bottle. There aren't terribly many artsy/chic places with outdoor seating in St. Louis. And as far as I am concerned, Sasha's has the stronghold on such a scene. Love it. I prefer going when it's not crowded, but I'm afraid there have only been a handful of times when tha'ts been the case. Once something cool catches on... I love their crepes. One of my favorites has smoked trout and salmon, capers, onions and artisan cream cheese. The chopped salad with cheese and pistachios is great too. I haven't tried their brunch because once news hit, they got hit - hard. They were initially swamped by the response and when people are crazed, I can't imagine anything good coming from it, so I decided to hold off. I don't drink wine, funnily enough, but that isn't really a problem. San Pelligrino is just fine, thanks. Besides, I'm the northern Cali kind of girl. I just love chillin' someplace really cool with the wind hitting me just so on the cheek. Even better is the neighborhood where Sasha's sits. Brilliantly gorgeous Demun. Customer service was terrible. Upon arrival we waited to be seated and nobody spoke. We then sat ourselves and no one came to the table. We sat for about 10 minutes before I had to approach the bar. I stood at the bar for around 10 minutes before the chef came out and asked if I needed anything. He then went and found a bartender. She had an attitude and moved extremely slow. Easily one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a restaurant. I was a Sasha's fan but I will not return again. I will also let everyone I know how poor my experience was, and encourage them to seek other options if they are in the area. read more

My friend and I thought this would be a great place to stop by for brunch on a weekend morning. I'm not sure why, but this place wasn't as crowded as I was expecting for a Saturday afternoon. My friend ordered the salmon crepe and I go the strawberries one. She absolutely loved hers and wanted to drag the rest of our posse here next time. I loved my strawberries one too! The creme fraiche really added a smooth creamy dimension without being overpowering. I'm always worried when I order a fruit crepe that it'll be too sweet - but this wasn't the case here. The crepe had just a little bit of sweetness but didn't feel exceptionally desserty to me. I can't wait to come back and hopefully try some of the other amazing looking dishes! read more

I don't know how I haven't written a review for this place sooner, it's one of my favs! I'm a semi-regular here and it's one of my favorite places to go! First of all, the ambiance is fantastic. It has an open front with a patio which is nice for Spring and Summer wining and dining, but the inside is really cool. From the wine decor to the ceiling decked out in wine crates, it's wine all the way (and we like wine). Obviously, the wine menu is large and impressive. I LOVE their Moscato (yes I'm one of those). It's so light and refreshing and yummy. I've eaten their brick oven pizzas which are delicious (and much better than you'd expect for a wine bar -- don't let that stop you, get it!) as well as some appetizers. I LOVE their hummus. I consider myself a hummus connoisseur and this is one of my favs. I simply love to come here with friends to enjoy company, a bottle (or two) of wine along with some yummy dishes to nosh on. What else do we want? My time at Sasha's is always superb. read more

Went to Sasha's for the first time yesterday night to celebrate Stewart P.'s birthday with some of his friends. I didn't know anyone there, so it was a great opportunity to meet people and make new friends as well as sample some of whatever Sasha's had to offer. Honestly, this place is more of a 3.5 stars for me than a solid 4, but I bumped them up since everything was pretty decent, and I even had leftovers for today at work. Stewart ordered the World Tour cheese plate, which was very good. It had a ton of cheeses and I can't remember all of the names. My favorites were a dessert cheese that looked sort of caramel-ish in color and it was divine! Stewart said it's sold at Whole Foods so I might have to swing by there some night after work and grab some! Mmmm! I am gonna get so fat! Hehehe. I also enjoyed their brie that came on the plate. Smooth and creamy and not too sharp! He ordered a bottle of Wente Chardonnay which was really smooth and not super acidic like some other chardonnays I have tried. I would recommend getting bottles here instead of glasses because the glasses are way overpriced. I am sure the bottles are just as overpriced but at least you are getting a bit more for your money with a bottle. The problem with me is that my bf doesn't drink, and I can't really finish a bottle on my own, and I doubt I could drink half and take the rest home, corked, anyway... so I need to come back here again with a big group to enjoy it more. I ordered a pizza for myself, and a glass of pinot noir which cost about $18 in total, I think. The wine was tasty, no complaints, but for $10 a glass, it better be damned good. It was more expensive than the pizza! The pizza was only "okay." I got the 9" smaller one and still had leftovers for lunch the next day, but I also stuffed myself on the cheese plates prior to that too. The basil added a lot of good flavor but the crust was too bland. It was puffy too, kind of like those Red Baron frozen pizzas you get in the supermarket. Yeah, if I am comparing the pizza to frozen pizza, it wasn't that great. But, I tried his friend's veggie pizza and it was wayyy better. So maybe the trick is to order something other than plain cheese pizza. Stewart got a Nutella and Banana crepe for dessert and I stole a couple of bites. It was pretty good, but nothing I couldn't easily make at home for a fraction of the price. I think I want to come back to this Sasha's, probably on a non-busy night (which is probably impossible b/c it was a Thursday night and the place was packed!) with Sean and a friend or two, and get a bottle of wine and and entree, although the cheese plates were so good, I'd want one of those too. Sean would probably eat their pizza or maybe a sandwich, if I'm lucky. ;) Also the service was kind of slow but since we were getting happy on the wine, we didn't seem to notice much, but it was kind of tedious at times. I don't know how I'd feel if I returned and had to wait 20 minutes to get to-go box for my pizza. The food here is served on gigantic slabs of broken granite. Good idea because it looks cool, bad idea because it weighs a metric asston. At least the servers will all be buff after they'ved worked here? ;) PS: The parking around Sasha's makes me want to punch a baby. Or two babies. Or a stack of babies. Actually, the parking here makes me want to nuke a stack of babies! Seriously, it's that bad! It wasn't even a weekend and I had to walk about 3 blocks. We arrived, did not see the sign to wait to be seated. We headed upstairs and were abruptly stopped by the bartender who states we needed to speak to him to be seated in a rude and annoyed manner. We went inside and he went back behind the bar to continue making drinks- we stood there until someone came up to tell us they could not accommodate our party and directed us to their "sister restaurant". It is completely acceptable to not be able to accommodate a party for drinks but the bartender was very rude in his approach and snickering behind the bar in clear view of our party as we waited. I have dreamed of a wine bar that has everything, ambiance, great service, outdoor patio, and great wine this place hits the nail on the head. The food is even great! This cute little wine bar sits on the end of a street and has lots of outdoor seating. The windows were all open so we could see out from the bar. The music was great. A lot of Amy winehouse to give it a little jazzy feel. They also do live music which we missed this night but surely would have enjoyed. It's dark inside and the detail put into this place shows how much effort they've made to make this spot welcoming and just a great place to hang and have wine! The bartender gave outstanding service. I described what I liked and he gave me several tastes until I found one that fit my taste. He did the same for my husband. He also gave us recommendations for other wines that we wouldn't normally have chosen based on our tastes. I think that's how all wine bars should be. I like learning and having an experience with wine and Sasha's does it all right. We had the smoked salmon plate and loved it. It was a salmon filet that was definitely smoked fresh. Probably in house? It also was a lighter dish so we weren't stuffed afterwards. Since we only wanted an appetizer. The place was busy all night with a. Great crowd. If I could give zero stars, I would. I ordered a roast beef sandwich on a Friday afternoon around 2:30. I'm a patient person. A table of 8 came in and were seated after me. I definitely ordered before them. Several other people were seated and received their food. I brought it to the server/bartender's attention and he apologized and said he would place a rush on it. A roast beef sandwich came out - and it went to the table of 8 - to a person that came late to the party and I know he certainly ordered after me. Well, they voiced concerns to the manager about waiting for the sandwich, so the squeaky wheel gets oiled. I guess I need to act like an Ahole and complain more so I can get served in a more timely manner. I think over an hour waitly patiently for a sandwich is more than enough. Some patrons dine in with dogs, which is fine until I accidentally stepped on one and landed on my table with my face. I got up and said "I can also do flips" and everything went back to normal. Waiter had to introduce himself by bring an ice bag for me, "breaking the ice" so to speak (: Cozy place but gets a bit loud. Great, fast, professional service.
