This place is a family-run gem. Every time we are in Apple Valley we make a stop here. The customer service is A+ and the food is amazing. Best Malaysian food I've ever had. We've had almost everything on the menu. You can't go wrong. There's curry, noodles, soups, Japanese pizzas, and satay. I tried the Malaysian Satay this time and loved it! The coconut rice has just a hint of sweet, the chicken is curried before sauteed, and the dumplings have good consistency. We also had the steamed bbq pork bun, red bean bun, twin dogs, and lemon bun. Both were delicious and delicate. The butterfly roll is my favorite with the delicious bean paste and sweet dough. I decided to go here after reading the reviews. And I thought it would be a realtively inexpensive lunch, not so. Needless to say this will be my one and only time here. I had my fair share of "Pan-Asian" Foods in many different States and cities (NYC and San Fran). I am not at all impressed with Satay 2 go, poor in my experience. The front counter service girl has a really hard time understanding me to the point of frustration. I wanted something spicy since being congested and this place is not it. The prices are higher than I expected, think more Chinese restaurant fare and the Singapore Chow Fun I ordered because I was not informed of what it truly good for a first-timer here, I ordered that, not nearly enough chicken or Shrimp in the dish, and the picture of the dish was not accurate in what I recieved. Also, my "tea," I ordered was put in a cheap Styrofoam cup, cheap and sloppy, at least put it in a ceramic mug, hardly any taste in the tea and I am big tea drinker, so I know my teas, end of story. Comfort is lacking here on hardwood chairs and pews and noisy. What my experience here tells me after asking for rice and being charged for it because I was under the impression of the dish coming with rice, is that this place is trying to pass it off as a quality place and it clearly is not, in my experience. There was nothing posted, I saw, that white rice which is a cheap foodstuff, was extra. Bad customer service period, offered the other two tables boxes to go and the guy walked right by me, and really not impressed and do not agree with the reviews written about Satay 2 Go. Also, they had no Pho Fawn soup options or Banh Mi sandwich?! At best, this place is Americanzied, suburban, strip-mall Asian fast food.. It felt like a waste of money to me and after my meal I thought I should have gone to Mexican place, probably at least I would have to ask for a glass for a water, when it should be standard for a server to do that..I don't think MN is in a drought. We had planned a trip to the zoo and having grown up in Malaysia... I always have the impulse to check for Malaysian restaurants in any area. Who knew that there was this gem in Apple Valley! The owners are Malaysian and their menu is simple but good. Unfortunately I've got ONE stomach....if not...I would have ordered everything! We decided to go with VERY spicy chow fun (char kuey Teow) and the Chinese nasi lemak. I nearly passed out when I saw that they had 100plus in their fridge! Omg! I hadn't had it since I moved here! We enjoyed our meal very much and even chatted with one of the owners. Another thing to note is they had an array of pastries that you always see in Chinese restaurants in Malaysia. We got a red bean, custard and Kay bun to go...plus two more cans of 100plus. One thing that stood out the last for me...was the cashier/waiter... Who I assume is the owners' son. FIrst...if you want to order here you MUST order online. Maybe it was me, but I saw nothing on their menu that indicated that fact, so I ended up standing outside their storefront putting an order together. Not how I like to do things the first time I get food somewhere. Didn't find them particularly friendly. After I ordered, I went inside to ask how long I should expect, since I saw nothing online to indicate that, either. The man behind the counter pointed at the computer screen behind him and said there were a lot of orders in front of me (yes...looked like about ten). I indicated I had to go to work in a while, so I couldn't wait forever...they could feel free to cancel my order if I was imposing (after all...they hadn't started preparing my order). I get it. He was speaking too low for me to hear as he turned away from me. The woman came out and told me in a rather shrill tone to go wait in my car. I reiterated to her I needed an estimate on time. Went through it all again. Told her they could feel free to cancel the order, but she said she'd have it in 20 min. OK. She did. They need a better online system. THE FOOD - Wife wanted chicken satay w/peanut sauce and a side of coconut rice. Satay was reasonably flavorful but nothing special. The sauce was thin and tasted to her like it was nothing more than peanut butter, fish sauce and chili oil. Too fishy for her and too hot. The rice seemed to have been cooked with a less-than-high quality coconut oil, instead of coconut milk. Only bit of that she thought worth eating was the rice on the bottom. The top was very dry. NOT the luscious coconut flavor she expected. Son had bulgogi. Not bad, but not great. Won't remember it in a few days. Overpriced. Would get a bigger helping for about the same price at any teriyaki place in the Pacific Northwest. I ordered Hokkien Mee with extra vegetables ($13.50). I got a few shrimp (cooked well) and a few pieces of chicken (thin and tough...not pleasant). There weren't enough veggies (onion and some green...bok choy or spinach, I think...pretty much nothing else) to fill my wife's hand, let alone mine. I made a mistake...didn't see they used Japanese udon for Hokkien food. Not a fan of fat noodles. That's on me. The sticky "flavorful" sauce nearly gluing the noodles together was unpleasant. Stodgy, to borrow from the Brits. The only way I got through half of the noodles was adding Sriracha and rice vinegar. Suffering serious buyer's remorse for the $40 this cost + tip. None of the food was visually appealing, and who would expect food out of Malaysia to be "blah"? None of that smoky/charred edge I'd expect from SE Asian street vendor-type noodles and satay, either. Can't see myself ever going back. Should've waited 'til I had time to fix it myself. read more

Great find! Just passed by this place on a road trip and I'm glad I stopped by! I ended up getting the mee goreng and it had the perfect amount of flavor, spiciness, and heat. This place was so fun. The bakery was amazing to look and learn. The curry chicken bun, egg custard bun, and the hot dog bun were the favorites at our house. The roti canai was warm and comforting - make sure to get extra roti, they were that good. We also really enjoyed the chicken satay and the Singapore Chow Fun. I could eat those all day. I would pass on the Chicken Briyani in favor of something different. For me the breading was a bit off and the flavor was just okay. It wouldn't stop me from going again though. I also thought the bbq pork was a bit sweet for me but I haven't had a ton of it so maybe it's supposed to be that way. read more

This was another great Chow.com to Yelp cross over. I'm almost always on the hunt for various Chinese bakeries to sate my blood lust for char siew (bbq pork) buns and Satay 2 Go was spoken of highly on the chow boards. It's kind of a trek from where I am but since I'm currently not employed and starting to get all Betty Friedan's Feminine Mystique up in here I decided to make the not really so long trek to Apple Valley for lunch. There was ample parking but the restaurant is pretty tiny. It seems to be more suited for take out orders and delivery (within 10!! miles). The bakery case on the counter almost brought a tear to my eye. There were buns o plenty--bbq pork, chicken curry, red bean, coconut cream, lotus paste, coconut and raisin, purple yam (sort of like taro). Next to the baked goods was a fridge packed with your various Asian favorites like different flavored Ramune and teas and juices from Japan. For lunch I ordered the cantonese chow fun which is a thick soup/gravy with eggs, chicken, bok choy and shrimp poured over thick rice noodles. It was absolutely delicious. It seems family owned which is always a plus and the owner was super friendly and helpful. I would definitely make the trek out there again, gas priced be damned! read more

Satay 2 Go was amazing! I went in after a yoga class, super hungry and looking to get items to go. A super young kid greeted me. Oh my gosh, he was so stinking cute! I asked for recommendations and he asked excellent questions to make sure I ordered well. I loved the milky bun! It was a bakery item he up sold me on, and I've been dying to go back and order 12 more. I just want to stuff my face with them. For real, so good! Did not realize this place was much smaller then I imagined but the service was awesome they have 5 small tables inside but seems to be more of a take out joint. Tons of variety for Asian beverages which I enjoyed my mango juice from a can. A good selection of food rice plates, noodle soups, and stir fry noodles. Also many apps. We ordered the lemon grass chicken wings which were very good perfectly cooked. Lo mee noodles which was great. Have been going to Satay2Go since it first opened. Its all good but my favorite is the Singapore Chow Fun. You can doctor the level of spice in it to appease your Minnesota palate, but as hot as you can tolerate is the way to go. The wife usually gravitates toward the Chicken Satay. The soups are great too, particularly the curry. Not much on atmosphere. Just a few small tables and the counter and if its busy when you walk in your meal may take a little bit of time to make it to you as they are definitely cooking to order. Its a great little restaurant tucked away in a small strip mall that should have much more business than it gets. A true hidden treasure. read more

As a Singaporean foodie, you can be sure that i hold a high standard for my review of asian food. Several asian places in the US made me hopeful before going but left me feeling empty after the visit. Satay 2 Go did not disappoint. I ordered the cantonese chow mee (we call it hor fun in sg), laksa, and Singapore chow fun (which we call char kway tiao). The taste of dishes were very authetic. The restaurant is small but homey, felt like home when i hear the restaurant owners speaking chinese with the malaysian accent. Many a times a 4.5 or 4 star for asian restaurant in Minnesota is not representative of the food quality, but this 4.5 star is a legit representation of the food quality here. They have other great local malaysian food, like mee goreng, nasi goreng, beef redang, lor mee, and prawn noodle. I will be back to try more of it, despite the long drive to get here (30 minutes). Can't believe that i didn't know about this restaurant after living here for over 5 years. Need to explore yelp more! read more

Read all the great review about this place so decided to drive out here to give it a try this week. It is a very small spot in a small strip mall that also house a Mexican restaurant, a nail salon, and a Mexican market. It's right in front of Home Depot and easily missed if you didn't spot the sign. As others said, it is very small with 5 tables and 18 seats, many people seem to take it Togo. The blonde girl taking order wasn't very friendly, didn't seem to know much about the menu, and didn't seem to care much. That's bummer. But the chef/owner was super friendly and picks her head out to say often. She seems to know everyone! That's a great sign! We tried the laksa, roti w curry, Singapore chow fan, and nasi lemak, to share between the four of us. The food was fantastic, great flavors, not greasy, and rather addictive to be honest because we couldn't stop eating until everything was devoured! And according to our Malaysian friends, it is also very authentic! We did try the BBQ puff from the pastry case... and decided to take another dozen to go. I guess that says it all about the BBQ puff! Great authentic southeast Asian gem in this tiny unsuspecting spot. Definitely worth the drive! read more

I have been eyeing this place for years but never stopped in until yesterday. Stopped in after the gym to bring something home. Feeling adventurous, I ordered the Okonomiyaki, which is like a Japanese pizza pancake. She said it would take a litle bit to make that but I was okay with it, it sounded interesting! I browsed the baked buns while it cooked and ordered a buttercream one and a chicken curry one. I ate the chicken curry one while I waited and it was incredible. The owner is SO nice and we chatted while I waited. I got the food home and it was AMAZING. I think this is the only place around that sells them! I would love to try other variations so if any other restaurant sells them then I would like to know! It's beef, bean sprouts, egg, noodles, cabbage, teriyaki, with fish flakes on top. Delicious.
