Recently purchased a home in Westmont and wanted to have some preventative maintenance performed on the A/C as it was an older unit. I chose Air Repair based off of their Yelp reviews and was not disappointed. Called to schedule an appointment. Inquired about cost and was given, what I considered based on some of other adds from competitors, a fair price ($89). Will showed up for the appointment on time (a bit early in fact) and was friendly, cordial and professional. Completed the check of the unit and said it was running just fine and did not need anything additional. He asked me how it was performing and I told him that it didn't quite cool the entire house as well as I would like. He asked about the sq. ft of the home and based off of that told me that the unit was a little small for the amount of square footage. He provided me with a written quote of what a larger unit would cost as well as the cost of a different kind of thermostat that he felt might be useful. I didn't feel pressure by him to purchase anything at the moment and was glad he was able to provide the quote on the spot so I consider our options (I don't think we'll do anything at the moment). He also walked me through some other options, including running the fan on manual as opposed to auto mode, to keep the house cooler. Overall a great experience and I will definitely use and recommend them moving forward. read more

I have no complaints about the work performed (although it took 2 visits to correct the issue) but my technician did not have a credit card scanner. He wrote my full credit card number on the invoice to be billed later. After 2 weeks I was never charged. The manager sent me an electronic invoice to pay. At that time I paid and responded that I was uncomfortable with my credit card number on a paper invoice somewhere. He never bothered to respond or apologize. I changed my card number that day. If you choose this vendor you may want to ask if they have a scanner before they perform the work. In 2020 I personally think it's unacceptable not to have a scanner. read more

I can't praise this company enough. We had both A/C units and both furnaces replaced by them this spring, plus new smart thermostats. We also had a generator installed by them. I compared prices with three other companies, all having the same products, and they were the best by far. The work was done with professionalism. They were neat, efficient, and very polite. I had researched and was most excited about this company. Sadly, I think you may need a better answering procedure. I called and got the answering machine. Thought I would wait a few minutes and try again. Called a second time and it went to voice mail, so I planned to leave a message and got a call waiting beep (from the company). right as I was supposed to leave a message. I answered and the woman on the other end, representing the company was agitated. I asked her how she was and her response was, "Busy. And I'm calling you back because your number kept showing up." How about....."I am well, how are you today? Thank you for calling Air Repair. How can I help you?" Not the best first impression for a new customer. I'm not sure why air conditioners and furnaces seem to get wiggy on holidays and weekends but we were in the same boat. Memorial Day, AC unit blowing coolish air, not cold, 90 degree days, etc. A perfect storm of discomfort. I called at 9 pm expecting to leave a message to schedule an appointment. Tess answered the phone and I ended having the technician Kelly come out for an emergency call. Call us whiny, but we were starting to stick to the furniture. Bad humidity, bad! Tess gave me an hour window. Kelly showed up in 15 minutes. He corrected the issue in about 90 minutes. By the time we went to bed we were cool and comfy. Wow....where to begin. It was a hot, summer night in June 2015 when the AC at my house went out. In fact it was a Sunday night around 8:30 PM. I had just returned home from a road trip. The AC was shut off and the house was hot. Really, really hot! I had no idea for how long the AC had been on the fritz but I knew between the English Bulldog and myself, I had to get it fixed. So I hopped onto Yelp! and up popped Air Repair. I placed a call at around 9 PM Sunday night. Spoke to a live person. Tess is her name. She said Kelly would be out first thing Monday morning. And he was. He fixed the issue and also told me that there were a couple of other potential problems to keep an eye on. Sure enough, two days later one of the issues arose. Kelly appeared and solved the problem again, minus the service call fee. Still, one other issue remained and just now Kelly left my house for the third time. Tess and Kelly absolutely rock. I feel like they are part of my family. They call when they will be here and I even had Kelly have access to the house since I was away for part of the day working. I absolutely recommend Air Repair. I was going to wait until the end of this summer to write the review, but I changed my mind. In October (2013) we had our furnace inspected by another company and was told that it should be shut down and replaced. We knew this day was coming since the air system is roughly 25 years old. We got a quote for it and the a/c (might as well get both done... the a/c was having its own issues this past summer), then decided to get a second quote. So glad we did! I left a message late at night (I think it was about 10p or 11p), because I knew I would forget the following morning. Tess immediately called back, scheduled a time for an estimate the next day, and talked with me a little bit about their process. Kelly came out the following day, did a walk through, answered questions, and was very candid. The quote was more affordable than the other place, met our specific needs, and he didn't try to get us to put in a ton of extra things. He even fixed a whistling vent in the basement! The weather was horrible the day of installation, so they did the a/c first, then the furnace second. Understandable gunk was tracked in and out, but they were mindful to stay on the tile and cleaned up after themselves. Kelly showed me how to use the new humidity control and thermostat, and they stayed all day until the work was finished. We have had one of the coldest winters I ever experienced in Chicago, and the furnace has been working like a charm (seriously, is this what it's supposed to be like? All quiet? It's sooo nice compared to the old clunker!). Both my husband and I are extremely happy with the service (did I mention that Tess helped us out with the rebate paperwork and mailed [and emailed] it back to us mostly completed? My appointment to perform yearly heartier maintenance was for a 2 hr window on a Friday. The office staff called me 10 min before to say that Kelly was on his way and right at 2:00, he was here! I wish my cable company was that prompt... While here Kelly was really friendly and quite informative. He replaced one part that was going bad but showed me where the problem was before he did so, proving that he wasn't just trying to service something that didn't need service. He also showed me how I could save money on heating by changing some simple wiring on the furnace and the thermostat and by replacing the thermostat. This he mentioned that he could certainly do it for me, but that I'd save a lot of money by simply doing it myself! First time home owner - my wife and I closed October 2013. We had NO idea how to maintain our home and quickly found out that just about every coupon for home service was an up-selling scam. I definitely reached out to Air Repair because of their positive Yelp reviews and we are so happy we did! We have an ancient Magic Chef AC condenser from 1980 that, surprisingly, still works (the coil is from 2006, inside the house)! We just wanted to have it tuned-up because we had no idea the condition and felt like it wasn't performing as well as it could have. We called Air Repair in May 2014 and received service on May 21, 2014. Air Repair was easy to work with. They tore apart the exterior condenser, cleaned years and years of old dust and foliage out of the fan, filled a few pounds of freon, and they even leveled the unit with some yard stones that I purchased from Home Depot (it was on a pretty gansta lean). On top of that, it had down-poured all night long, and the service man from Air Repair didn't let all the mud get in the way at our 8am appointment. All-in-all they did a good job without hustling for a sale. They said it was a fine unit, that the Magic Chefs are tanks for how long they last, and said to just keep using it until it burns out. How's that for honesty?! I really appreciated how nice they were, not forcing me to replace the entire system. Although I'm sure a newer AC would be more efficient, our AC worked great all summer long. We're on the north side of a town home building, so we aren't in direct sunlight for a majority of the day. Our AC doesn't need to work too hard and I'm happy to call Air Repair each spring. read more

I thought I would update my review. I've since moved to a new home and have a rental. I called Sears [dumb me] for a duct cleaning [this is a full blown job for a 3000 sf home]. I made the grave mistake of trusting the 20 year olds that performed the work. Of course they came down my stairs holding a vent with "mold" all over it. Mind you-no one was watching them so they could have brought the register in themselves. They never showed me where it came from, and they convinced me to purchase their UV filters for my furnaces. I have 2 furnaces and 2 ac units in the new house. Not more than 2 weeks later, the furnace would not turn on. I know how to work the thermostat and the kill switch. Neither worked, checked the fuses..nothing. One of my furnaces was completely dead. I called Kelly & Tess @ Air repair and sure enough, like usual they sent their tech out that week. It wasn't a snow storm or emergency but you can imagine how I was FREAKING out because here some 20 something from sears installed a uv light [I let them] and touched the electronics. I can't fix a furnace! Will showed up, popped off the cover, and had the problem diagnosed within 60 seconds. The kids from sears moved the kill switch wiring, hence it not being able to turn on. He fixed/rerouted the wiring and tested it, everything was working just fine. It was a 20 minute appointment. AND since they were just there to clean and check all my units, they didn't even charge me for a service call, just a minor repair and the wire for the fix. Every single solitary time I've needed this company to come through for me, they've stepped up to clean up everyone else's messes. I don't know what I would have done without them. I've tried MANY different services in the burbs since moving here [from yelp, homeadvisor and craigslist as well as sears now] and none of them compare to the service and price I've gotten from this company. Do yourself a favor and schedule your service/clean and checks with them. They are good folks! read more

When was the last time you've seen a service company let alone an HVAC service company get all 5 stars on a consistent basis? Businesses take note, this is how you run a successful business. I called Tess a couple days ago about getting both our AC units checked and cleaned and that we were having an issue with one of them not cooling. Although not an emergency, Tess managed to get someone out on a Saturday. Let me just say all the reviews here about the technician Kelly are true. Kelly let us know that one of the units had a leak and therefore low on freon. He suspected the leak was outside where the technician attach their gauges but could not guarantee that so I was gambling on 3 pounds of freon at $95/lbs. He was pretty sure that would work and I could avoid replacing the units at least for another year maybe two. Well, it seems to have worked and hopefully there is not another smaller leak somewhere else. Kelly explained that we would eventually need new ACs and explained the differences between some models. It is obvious Kelly is passionate about his work and really enjoys helping people. I also got the same impression from Tess at the office that she goes out of her way to accommodate customers and is very good at communicating quickly with customers. Five stars guys! We had no heat with a 17 month old at home and he came to save the day! He explained what was wrong and checked out what could have been the cause. For the past three years we've had a problem with our furnace's sensor. Every winter the furnace would try to ignite, but nothing would happen, and we'd suffer in freezing weather until we could get someone out to clean the sensor. I had hired a different company the first couple of times this happened, but this time I decided to call Air Repair. I was really, really happy that I did. The previous company we used would listen to me tell them what was happening to the furnace, assume it was the sensor, clean it in 5 minutes and charge me $150. When my furnace stopped working correctly this morning, I decided to look up reviews and ended up calling Air Repair. I called around 10am and Kelly was out at 12:45. He listened to what I had to say, cleaned the sensor like the other company had, but then also completely vacuumed out the inside of the furnace for me and cleaned all the little inside things that I never would have thought twice about. All for a much better price than the other company had charged. He also explained what other problems might be going on, how much the repairs would be, but never once pressured me into anything. He suggested we do the cheaper repair first, and only worry about other solutions if that one fails to fix the problem. (and, by the way, if he does have to come back - he wouldn't charge me another service fee.) I'm so glad I decided to call Air Repair. Kelly was a really nice guy to talk to, and he went above and beyond to help get our furnace working again. read more

Great work from quote to installation. Kelly came onsite promptly to inspect our HVAC systems. He was on time, polite, and honest (I hope). He recommended a new AC and furnace to replace our 25 year old units and gave us cost-benefit analysis of various models. His team removed the old and installed the new the following day. Only missing 5th star due to some work management issues - team ran late because warehouse didn't have the right unit. Then delayed completion due to an emergency call. Had two wifi thermostats I needed installed in my home. Will did an amazing job. Was quick, came out the same day, and took care of it for me. He also took the time to advise me on what filters I needed for my furnaces since I just moved in and the previous owners of the home didn't have any in there. Right before winter, we were very fortunate to find out our furnace didn't work. We checked online and found some very nice reviews for Air Repair, I contacted them and scheduled for a technician to come out. Will came out, diagnosed the old furnace, explained to us what he found; what were our options and prices for the options. Will was very patient answering our questions and very knowledgeable. Since our furnace was almost 20 years old, the choice was easy, we got a new one. Will and his small team took about 4 hours to remove the old furnace and installed the new one on the same day. We bought a house in June 2013 and were aware that we will have to get the HVAC system replaced but we were trying to stretch an long as possible. Once we moved we called Air Repair for AC tune up, Kelly showed and confirmed that system will have to get replaced in the near future but made a temporary fix. It definitely lasted the entire summer. In October, we called them for our Furnace tune up and Kelly suggested that we get the Furnace replaced. So we asked him for a quote, he gave us an approximate amount and said that Tess is going to call you with a detailed quote. During his visit, he also explained what are things to consider when buying a new HVAC. So next day Tess called me with a detailed quote and also emailed it to me. We have bought all our appliances from ABT, and so we asked them also to provide us a quote. One of the sales managers from ABT came and said that he would send me the quote. I asked him about the rebate program and he was not sure if the particular model that he suggested would qualify for that or not. Next day someone from him team also send us the quote, I asked them again about the rebate and was told that they will have to check. In the mean time I asked Tess, that we want a different brand instead of what they had initially quoted and she was able to provide the quote the same day. Also she confirmed that both the AC and Furnace would qualify for the rebate and she will be filling out all the paper work. We eventually went with Air Repair, since if was tough to get hold off ABT sales people. Also Air Repair prices was lower that ABT, and it was a comparable brand. On the day of the installation, it took Kelly and one other guy almost 10 hours but the job was done on time. He even came a week after to make a minor fix. Tess followed up with us regarding the rebate and ensure that we got the rebate on time. I highly recommend Air Repair Heating. They are prompt with a high service quality. read more

This is one of the best examples of a top-notch small business I've seen in quite a long time. Even though we rent, Will explained everything to me (and then again to my landlord), and he was prompt (early, even, and on a Saturday), courteous, and professional. The furnace is apparently from the 1980s, which he knew because "they stopped making [one of the components] in 1990." He told me that the gas had still been blowing in my house (!) because it had a manual shut-off (he turned it off), and also told me that natural gas is not as dangerous as carbon monoxide, but still bad, and also told me the furnace had probably been "dangerous" for quite some time (the ignition component was melted from "roll-back" of the heat, which wasn't getting into the duct because of soot). He gave my landlord an estimate, and let me know that the supply stores were closing soon, but not in an "upsell" way, just as info in case the landlord wanted to have them do the replacement today. (The landlord wanted a second opinion/quote, and I'm still waiting for that company--one of the bigger local chains--to come out). I then got a call from someone in their office to again let me know that the supply houses were closing, and to let me know that they have a price-match, minus $100, for any other quote. I had him send that info to my landlord, and I really hope the landlord goes with Air Repair. They seem like very honest, reasonable, efficient, and knowledgeable people, and I'm a big fan of small, indie businesses. read more

Called these guys based on thier good Yelp reviews to fix our furnace when it stopped running (Yikes!...in December). Downside: our "repair" turned into the need to replace our entire furnace as it was beyond repair. Upside: these guys were able to install the new furnace the next morning after the initial service call and did everything you could ask for in a service/repair/install: good communication between office (dispatch/receptionist) and techs, showing up on time (when promised), fair price, quick work, cleaned up thier own mess. Bonus points 1: we called with a honestly minor compliant about the new furnace making a funny noise and they came out and fixed it no questions asked, no interrogation, no charge. Bonus points 2: At the initial visit, the repair tech explained to me, and showed me exactly what the issue was with our old furnace that necessitated it having to be replaced. read more

He was super polite, gave me a few options of what to do next and even got quotes for me to help make that decision. We decided to replace- and they came back the same day to install and finish the work- even when it started pouring rain outside and it taking longer than expected. Our AC gave out a few weeks ago and it just happened to be during the hottest few days of the year. With a a newborn we were in a crunch to get the system fixed. So I called and they came right over to take a look after some checking we realized it was a simple case of a bad filter and nothing more. These guys are great. Our furnace made a loud bang noise and we woke up to a cold house the next day. Called Air Repair to request evening service tech to come out, and Tess warned that it would be double the cost for after hours service, and suggested an early morning appt the next day. Pretty considerate. Will came out the next morning, made a quick diagnosis (busted motor), called me back with a quote, and about an hour and a half later, we had the heat back on. Awesome! I even trusted them with the garage code to our home because no one was able to be there during the 1.5 hr repair process. All went well with no issues. I will agree with another reviewer that Tess can have her snippy moments...she was awakened by the tech who was on his way to my house and couldn't get a hold of me (I called him right back, but he didn't answer) and she was a bit unpleasant in her tone, but we quickly got past that and I wasn't too upset about it. So don't let that deter you if you encounter one of her stressful moments. All in all, these guys are honest and affordable, and I will certainly call them back for any future heating and cooling repair needs. read more

I was so impressed by this company! I had my heat go out on a day that was below 30 degrees. I found Air Repair using Yelp and saw that they had good reviews. I called on a Sunday night and Tess helped me by asking if I had tried a few things and actually walked me through some trouble shooting over the phone. It wasn't staying on do I made an appointment with her for the next day so that I wasn't paying after hour charges. I tried her suggestions again and the heat kicked on! I called and let Tess know it was back on but that I wanted to keep my appt. in case it turned off. She called me in the morning to see how I was doing and to ask if it was still working! She also said that she had a technician that could come out at my earliest convenience! Kelly came go the house 20 mins later and fixed the issue. Called them about my heat being out and they immediately tried to help me on the phone without even charging me. I thought that was very nice of them. Once the guy came out and told me that the motor on the blower froze up he quoted me a price and called around to find a cheaper place to buy the part. They are very friendly and also do wonderful service. The price actually came out less than quoted. I will only use them from here on out with any issues.
