November 2019- Allen, the owner of Save On Glass, just helped us again. We have worked with him for 14 years and I know we can trust him so it was worth driving to Berkeley now that they have changed locations. Allen is a hard worker and does all he can to solve problems and does great work. Now they sell furniture hand made by a craftsman. He has a lot of cool tables and desks. Allen is fantastic. He helped me figure out complicated windows for my house 6 years ago, quickly fixed my windshield after my son's friend climbed on my car and just quickly replaced my car window after someone smashed it in last night. We are leaving out of town tomorrow morning early for the holiday and we are driving. He quickly order the parts and made the repair happen today while I waited. He is hardworking and intelligent. I love this place. Last night when I came out from dinner and saw my window was smashed I didn't even get worried because I knew exactly who to call. I picked up my phone and called Save On Glass and Alan answered even though it was after hours and quickly order the parts to replace my smashed window. I love this place. I start a new job with an insane commute Monday and we woke up to a missing window this morning. Our insurance said the soonest appointment was late next week. Like everyone else, I was really pissed when I saw my car broken into. My husband, who has been going to this place, called SaveOn to make an appointment because they close at 1 on Saturdays and I had to work until 12:45. They were really nice to tell us that if I come in 5 mins before they close, they will take care of my car. Sure enough, I pulled into their driveway at 12:50, they took my car, cleaned and even arranged the mess that the burglar had made. The guy was really nice and service was fast. He even recommended where to go for lunch while I wait. I think the only complain I have is that my car needs a bit more vaccuuming because there glasses everywhere. Great service, but ridiculous prices. The first time I had broken glass, I brought two cars here and it cost me alot! I really enjoyed their service and they did take special care of my car during that time, but it was very expensive. The owners are very good with their customers and their work is top notch, but.... The second time, I had a cracked windshield, for my higher end car. I shopped around and was able to get the same aftermarket windshield installed for about 1/3 Save On's quoted price. read more

Need not ask how I found this place. How else? Yelp! A family table suffered a mishap, leading me to an Indiana Jones like adventure (pencil in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' theme). Coming here about a month ago to explain my situation, Alan was very patient and kind in offering a variety of options in resolving my problem. Using his information, I was able to follow his instructions and find the most economical and efficient way to complete my task. After mapping said table, I returned last week to present a sketch of the table so he could cut and shape the needed table top. He said that it would likely be done before Christmas. To my amazement, he called the following Monday stating that my order was ready. My coworker and I came here on Friday morning to pick it up. After backing our van into their store, he and his staff kindly and carefully loaded their work into our vehicle. Needless to say, the glass fit perfectly and hopefully will last for a long while. Five stars to Alan for his detailed and meticulous explanation as well as the speediness and (fingers crossed) work quality. As I pull in to the busy garage, blunt shards of broken glass ornamenting my passenger seat, an enigma echoes from within: "Sara. You're smart. Really FUCKING smart. So why do you constantly leave valuable shit in your car overnight outside your dodgy SOMA apartment?" I speak softly as I sidle across the room, having been demoted to a delinquent, a low-life, an uncertified customer, someone who just waltzes in without warning --- worse, perhaps, than the crackhead who smashed his fist through my window. With that, I melted, smiled, giggled, well...no, cmon...don't be silly. I say between hand waves of poo-pooing modesty. It's so easy to get on my good side. God, I'm so fucking superficial sometimes. Their attitude: Very New York. Straightfoward, no-nonsense, no fake smiles, no bullshit. They may yell at you across the room (I didn't think it was legal to do that on the West Coast) , but deep down they're not so bad. As soon as I provided the requisite information, they began making phone calls to glass stores around the bay area as I stood there waiting. I noted the contrast between the service here and at Ted and Al's on Stanyan. When I got my glass fixed at the T&A's, I encountered dripping sympathy, oh, goodness, what happened, ya can't leave stuff in the car ya know, tsk tsk, too bad...and then smacked with a $250 bill. At Saveon, they get right to work. They see it 10 times a day. You live in the ghetto. Get the fuck over it. Some dude was vacuuming my car before I even left the place. When I went back to pick it up, my car was pristine. The dude had vacuumed the entire car, and it even SMELLED good. AND they had found a cell-phone and my favorite Fresh lip gloss that I thought were long-gone and placed it on the seat. Excellent workmanship, super helpful people, great price and immediate appointments. Had my Jetta broken into and rear door window smashed on a Monday night. On Tuesday morning, I called 5 places, of which 3 couldn't do it same day (Safelite, which is integrated with my insurance was the longest wait and the MOST expensive), 1 could do end of day, but SaveOn took me in immediately at 1pm and had the proper glass parts in stock. for a rear window, they were between $10-$150 cheaper than the other places I called. and most everyone was quoting after market glass so the gap wasnt due to OEM parts pricing. They were really careful and conscientious about the repair to make sure that the electric window mechanism worked just right in addition to replacing the glass. i really appreciated their attention to detail and taking the extra time to ensure high quality work. I'll stick with these guys for future glass repair! Immediate appointments really matter when it comes to car repair. read more

Are none of you calling for multiple quotes? I called SaveOn Glass to fix my smashed side window and was pleased that they would be able to get the glass and repair my car that same day. However the estimate was over $400 more than the second place I called. Glass Pro would do the work the following day for $139 installed. I called SaveOn Glass back to see if they could do better on the price, sharing the quote from Glass Pro, and the SaveOn Glass rep. explained to me she couldn't even buy the window from her distributor for $139. If (which I highly doubt) that is true, SaveOn Glass should consider subcontracting out their work to Glass Pro. I happily had Glass Pro do the work the following morning. Glass Pro was true to form - fixing my car for $139. The job took about 60 minutes while I waited. Lessons learned: 1. I had a great experience with Saveon Glass! I needed a new windshield after one of my many nicks spread the entire span of the windshield (and I watched it happen!) My insurance company recommended a shop in Oakland and they quoted me $410(!!!!!!) Next please. I hopped on Yelp and found Safelite. They quoted me $381(!!!!) Next please. I then called Saveon Glass and they quoted me $208. SOLD. So much better of a price. I'd had windshields replaced before and I knew that this was more in the price range of what it should be. I told them I'd call back after I made a few more calls. I ended up not making anymore calls and called them back. The lady on the phone asked what my quote was and I told her 208, which she thought was odd, because she said it should only be 197. Strange. BUT a lower quote is nothing to complain about. I make my appointment for 30 min later and I hope in my car to get it done. When I get to the shop, the guys are really friendly. The guy to greet me in the storefront (the owner I think...?) says first thing that the 208 price he quoted me was for new car windshield molding. The 197 price didn't include new molding, and it was not necessary if I did not want it. I was very impressed that (1) he knew who I was and (2) he was so honest about why the quoted prices were different. I went without the new molding for 197, and with tax a total of $214. The whole service took about 35-45 min. I sat and read in their storefront where they sell all sorts of glass for home/auto/art. I would definitely go back to this shop if I needed anymore glass repairs! read more

Quick Service for a great price! My car got broken into (bastards) and my deck was stolen over the weekend while parked on the hills of portrero hill. I called the next morning went in at 9 am and the gentlemen told me they would be done in an hour and a half and saw that I was jsut waiting so managed to finish up vacuuming and replacing my window in a short 30 min! My second time getting a crack/chip repaired here and been happy both times. Chip repair is a good option when it's less than an inch long and you don't want it to spread/grow bigger. The first chip repair on my old beater lasted several years (longer than the car did). Well now I have a newer car, but on my way back from Tahoe this past weekend, I got another little chip in my windshield. Dammit! Not necessarily the chip itself, but what a pain in the @$$ it would be to drop it off, get it fixed, etc etc, with my work schedule. Well, two days later I happened to get out of work slightly early, so: - I called at 4:10PM. They said, we close at 5 but come on over. - Got to the shop by 4:35PM - Crack was filled, fixed, windshield cleaned, and car ready to go at 4:55PM. - Total damage: $55 (insurance reimbursable) + 20 minutes. No complaints here. I needed the little triangular glass in my rear window replaced. Got an estimate over the phone. The guy told me I could bring my car over and they'd have it done in 10 minutes. That's exactly what happened. The guy at the front desk was really nice. The total came out to $134.73 after I used the $15 Yelp discount. The only negative thing I can think of is that I was hoping they'd have free coffee...maybe they did, but I didn't bother to ask. Oh well, it only took 10 min anyway. Das a good one! I had my car broken into and the side window busted at 9am. I called some people to get quotes. The first place asked for $150 and said it could have it by afternoon. The next 2 places I called asked for over $200 and they both tried to sell me warranties. One of them had to take my first and last name, phone number AND zip code down before he could give me a quote. I called SaveOn and w/o any hassle I got a quote for only $130 and was told it would take only an hour. I set my appointment for 11:30am and by 12:25 I was driving out w/my new window! I live in this neighborhood and I've come to this glass shop twice. Once several years ago, my Hyundai was broken into and I my glass was repaired so quickly, I had trouble even remembering my glass had been broken. December 2008 my passenger side, side-view mirror just drops out of its frame. It was like losing an eye. Google maps put me on to SaveOn Glass at 30 Otis, just west of South Van Ness Avenue. I dropped in, I paid them, they ordered the mirror, I went home and returned the next day. They installed the mirror and I drove off happy. April 7, 2009, my passenger side, side-view mirror is shattered, cracks throughout with missing pieces. Fly vision. I knew where to go, SaveOn Glass. I get to SaveOn Glass at about 1:00, order my mirror, pay for it ($60.22 with tax and install), and am told that it will be in by 4:00 the same day. Wow, faster than the last time. About 3:50 I get a phone call that my replacement mirror was in. They got me in and out, installed and seeing clearly in 15 minutes. Gave Saveon Glass a call after reading all the glowing reviews on Yelp. Our car got broken into the night before and our entire rear windshield was totally smashed in. Tiffany (the woman who picked up the phone at 920 on a Saturday morning - what a lifesaver) was super nice. I thought she gave me a reasonable quote, up until the time I realized she was quoting me for both the cost of the rear windshield, AND service. Now I'm impressed. Tiffany then let me know she was going to have the rear windshield delivered from her warehouse and I could come in at 1030 to have the work done. Brought the car in, hung out in the neighborhood, and before I knew it, our car was done. I was out of there by 110. Tiffany also let me know that the work was insured for the lifetime of my car.
