Granted, I've only tried it once (yesterday), but... best Valentine's dinner I've ever had. No lie. For $7 I got two bags of regular gnocchi, and followed the cooking instructions from Caroline L.'s review (see below). I was prepared for it to be good, but... this was heart-stoppingly delicious! My fiancé and I ate most of it and went into a deep, but happy, food coma. I will be back to try pretty much anything else! So very glad for this discovery. (And seriously - Caroline L.'s recipe is spot-on... try it. Your taste buds really WILL explode from happiness.) read more

I am not a Roman, but I've spent enough time in Rome and Umbria to tell you that this is the real deal. Practically the best ravioli I've had in NY. I spent about $15 stocked ourselves with big box of porcini ravioli, gnocchi, and the famous homemade vodka sauce. Everything tastes so great that I wish I could own the store! The sauce is very flavorful but not too salty, just the way I like it. The consistency of the pasta is perfectly al dente. Definitely worth moving out of Manhattan so that I can be close to this place. We will go there every week from now on... read more

Wonderful! Impress your guests by spending a couple of minutes cooking up the fresh pasta you picked up at Savino's on your way home. Their gnocchi is my favorite option, and the ravioli are also fantastic. They supply local restaurants and gourmet stores with the same pasta you can buy at their counter--it's a great deal. (If you're short on supplies, they have the other ingredients you'll need for your meal on a few shelves in the front.) Do note that their hours can make it a bit tricky to coordinate a trip (classic family-owned business: they really do close at 6, and they open for half-days on Sunday and remain closed on Mondays). Totally worth the effort to make it there in time, though. read more

Truly a neighborhood treasure. A remnant of the old neighborhood that reminds us that in the age of mega supermarkets, little shops that practice their craft can never be replaced. These people are wonderful, the pasta and sauce are as good or better than anything you'll get at a restaurant and cheaper than what you'd find in the gourmet section at Whole Foods. As good as it gets! Indeed! I used to think that I made good lasagna, until I came here and made one using their pasta and sauce. Good lord! I about passed out. And then we made mac and cheese with their fresh curly noodles. Wow! I've been here several times and never been disappointed. All the food is amazing, and the owners are really friendly. As the owner said to me today, "a little bit of everything". Fresh mozzarella. Check. Many different awesome ravioli. Check. Fresh cut pasta. Check. Delicious sauce. Check. Dry sausage. Check. (actually this is packaged, so I get mine at a meat shop on Graham, but if you don't wanna stop twice...) Prosciutto. Check. This place is an amazing gem hidden on the side streets of Williamsburg. When you walk in there are cases of so many different raviolis and fresh cut pasta. The day I went , my boyfriend and I really wanted some spaghetti and didn't see it in the cases. All we did was ask and the man went in the back and cut fresh sheets of pasta into spaghetti for us. Yesterday when I went and it was pretty empty in there, I asked the owner if it would be ok if i came in the back and watched her cut the pasta and she let me and talked to me about the shop. A wonderful experience! But most importantly, the pasta is AWESOME! I made it with a home made marinara the other day and let the pasta finish cooking in a little but of sauce and it really soaked up the sauce. It cooked to a beautiful consistency and you can really tell the difference between fresh pasta and the kind in the box. I love this place! read more

If you live near Savino's and are still eating dried pasta, I feel sorry for you. Their pastas are a constant staple in our fridge and they have great italian specialty items that we use all the time. The last time I was there, the owner declared it to be my birthday, which meant getting a scoop of the ricotta filling on a plastic spoon. I wish it could be my birthday every day. read more

Simply said the best pasta and sauces I've ever had! And the prices are quite decent (under $5 for a 30-piece ricotta cheese ravioli pack). This isn't a restuarant but a pasteria, where you can buy freshly made pasta and all the fixins to go along with it. There are several nice Italian bakeries around to pick up a nice loaf of bread to enjoy with your meal as well. read more

real good pasta. artichoke raviolis are the bomb, pumpkin ravs are the shit in the fall. order some linguini and they roll it & cut it right there. cono is a real nice guy to boot. for $10 you can make a meal that drops panties, even if you can't cook. here's how. box of lobster ravioli. check jar of artichoke hearts. check piece of locatelli. check splash of olive oil & some sea salt. should be in the cupboard, if not you should be ashamed. chop up a tomato and toss on top. panties melt away. read more

Amazing pasta at amazing prices! We got: -1 pound of pappardelle, cut while we waited (they also cut to other thicknesses... fetuccine, spaghetti, all the way down to angel hair!) -1 package gnocchi -30 porcini ravioli -12 lobster ravioli (these were meaty monsters) Perfectly al dente as long as you don't overcook it... wow. We paired the pappardelle with a homemade Italian sausage tomato sauce, and the other stuff with butter-sage sauce... incredible. After discovering this place, we realized we could make restaurant-quality food at home at a fraction of the price, which has actually made us less inclined to go out for Italian. Went here for the first time yesterday and got a pound of fresh cut fettucini, 30 lobster ravioli, a pound of fresh mozzarella, and two tubs of sauce, vodka/marinara for under 30 bucks. It is all so very good and comes out to about two bucks a meal. I'm not sure that there is any way to beat that. Greatness. read more

Fresh pasta for super cheap??? I'm there... I even decided to take the train to this place... I highly recommend the goat cheese ravioli and get the vodka sauce. You will not regret it. The ravioli are phenomenal. My mother served ravioli twice a year and I wanted to keep up the tradition. I was tempted to drive out to Long Island to go where she did when I found this local shop. Savino's Quality Pizza, in a quiet piece of real estate surrounded by apartment buildings these guys are churning out home made ravioli and sauce. Get here EARLY, and I mean EARLY. I came here in the afternoon on a weekend around 2:00 and lots of stuff was already sold out. Their prices are pretty fantastic for 2 boxes of 30 ravioli you're talking $14.00 or so which for me equated to 6 servings. Definitely if you're looking for some fresh, delicious, pasta to make at home and save yourself the $20 you would pay at a restaurant, Savino's is where it's at. read more

If you're still buying your pasta at C Town you're missing out. The ravioli is DELICIOUS. And very reasonably priced. They have pumpkin, spinach, artichoke, and red pepper as well as papparadelle (cut fresh!), and homemade vodka sauce which is to die for. They also have an assortment of other Italian treats. I've never seen pasta cut fresh so that was a bonus. I'll definitely be back for more. read more

Not bad but not great. Lobster ravioli had a distinctive seafood taste instead of the crisp taste of lobster. Should be called clam ravioli as this seems to be the main ingredient. No lobster texture either, the filling was over processed seafood mush. read more

BEST Fresh Pasta in NYC But not only that! Best family runned business! the Savino's people is the BEST! today I have a dinner and I really wanted to cook the pasta for 2 reasons 1. Is Delicious and everybody loves it and is amazed by it. 2. It's the best cooking solution when you don't have so much time for cooking but still you want to do some good home made dish for your guest. I've call them to know if they would wait for me for a couple of minutes, since they close at 6pm and I was afraid I will be late for only a couple of minutes. They told me they were about to close already because they had to close earlier today, but that anyway they will wait for me. I run as much as I could, I arrived at 6.05 considering they where closing at 6.45 they wait for me 20min. Who is doing this nowadays in NY? nobody! I'm super thankful! The search for homemade pasta that I did not have to make has been a long one. After years of scouring Manhattan's little Italy, gourmet speciality stores, and small mom and pop business, I decided to travel out, after too many thick, chewy bites after another. I happily admit that Savino's is worth the easy trip to Williamsburg! Wow, the texture and consistency is perfect and the price at 3.50 a pound more affordable then egg-less dried pastas. Coming to this place was definitely sketch with the dim lighting and being located off the main street. After moving to Williamsburg, I had an expectation that I'd be surrounded by hipsters and yuppies. While that is as true (although the hipsters seem to be disappearing), I also had the pleasure of discovering a Little Italy section that has persisted through the years. I'm a sucker for old-school Italian shops and restaurants, so naturally I had to check out Savino's. Savino's has an excellent selection of handmade ravioli for only about $8 a box for the 30 count. I've frequently purchased the spinach, roasted red pepper and the sun-dried tomato. They really have quite the selection. They also have a decent selection of other products, like cans of tomatoes, olive oil, and other Italian staples. And if you don't feel like making your own sauce, they have little tupperware containers of premade tomato and vodka sauces, as well as the always cool caciocavallo gourd cheese in the fridge behind the counter. Seriously, I can't recommend this place enough. Great food, virtually no kitchen prep outside of boiling water, and it's cheap. read more

Would not go back there is someone paid me. Went in and was treated rudely by the person working the Counter. He seemed annoyed that we had come in, because he had been outside when we arrived. When we asked what kind of fresh pastas were available, he rattled off about 6 types but so fast that you could not understand him. I asked if he ever stocked radiatore and he looked at me with disgust and answered "never". Picked up a fresh penne and a sauce. Neither was anything special. Will never go back. read more
