I regret having to leave this review. In the past I have rated Savorez 5 stars for the same food we ordered tonight. Tonight was a different story. Drinks were good. Food was mediocre and bland. Shocking!!! Black beans were bland, as was the coconut rice. Maduras were burnt.Vegetarian's Dream Tostada was soggy and very little flavor. Crispy Quinoa Flounder Tacos lacked the Latin flavors. Fish was crispy, but dry and overcooked. Also, very little flavor. When Sam, the chef owner, came to our table because he was told that we weren't happy, he asked what the problem was. Rather than apologize, he seemed offended. Someone who cared about his reputation would have made some kind of offering as a goodwill gesture. Not Sam. Our waiter was very cold upon leaving the bill. After this type of attitude, poor food and poor service. I will no longer recommend this restaurant to friends, nor return. I expected better. Can't blame it on an off night because the owner didn't seem to care about the customer experience. read more

This small restaurant serves delicious Latin food with a southern twist. The BLT arepas, the chicken linga empanadas and the scallops special was all delicious. The combination of the warm red beets and the crunch of the pomegranates with the aioli sauce was so unusual. Service is attentive and ambience is cosy. read more

8/7/21: Needs editing!! ****Accidentally posted when saving as draft!! :((( This was our first visit to Savorez...have heard nothing but good things for years and it surely was, overall, a great dining experience! The first thing you'll have to do is try to decide what you are going to try...EVERYTHING sounds and looks so good!!! We started with the Trio of Dips, as we wanted to try all of them, even though the sweet potato 'guacamole' (it does have avocado in it, but I think that just lends to its creaminess and not so much the actual taste of avocado) didn't actually make us excited as none of us really eat sweet potatoes much. I encourage you to do this on your first visit so you can decide which one or if they all are your favorites! :) Guacamole : The guac was good- IMO could have benefited from a little more heat and more cilantro..but that's just my preference. Note: I thought it was truly EXCELLENT when paired with the Salsa Fresca. Sweet potato Goat cheese w avacado Guacamole: INTERESTING- kind of weird but hard to really explain... A bit sweet in front then creamy then a few onions and a short sweet but then a brief heat on the finish... Complex - I don't reallllly like it...but I sort of do and can't explain why. Btw. Very rare that I am short on words or descriptions... haha Note: it was really great when I paired this with the Black bean dip! Black Bean Bacon dip: SUPER Good!! I wondered if it was Perhaps compressed tomato w jalapeño- Made into pearls...truly a labor of love..aka "unstoppable caviar". This type of a dish, which is so tasty you can't stop eating it (even if you're full), reminds me of a cooking competition winner: Welcome to an Episode of Top Chef! I first tried a 'pearl' which was an absolute BURST of flavor which truly wakes up your palate. I ended up asking our server (Addie- I believe- she was great) if it was compressed tomato and I believe she said it was covered with yuzu- that would explain the explosion of flavor for your taste buds!! When you first have the bite with all the ingredients, you will truly join the Tuna Toastada Fan Club You HAVE to try this dish...better order two, because they are 'fight-over' worthy! We knew Savorez would be good, but we were absolutely blown away. Everything is delicious - drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts. We got there around 6:20 on a Saturday night, and we waited about 40 minutes for our table. We had a couple of drinks while we waited, and they were both very tasty. Once we sat, we started with the sweet potato and goat cheese guacamole - SO good. Works perfectly with the house made chips. For entrees, I had the scallops special, and hubs had the jerk triggerfish. Both were absolutely delicious - perfectly cooked, and very interesting preparations. We topped it off with the sweet potato and cheesecake empanada for dessert, and it was the perfect sweet treat. Not too heavy, but very tasty. Highly recommend Savorez! read more

We came into Savorez after it was recommended by a local. First night we went in for dinner and there was a 45 minute wait and we decided to come back the next day for and early dinner. We got in with no wait at around 5pm. We ordered from the Tapas menu (BLT arepas) and an alcoholic drink, both were delicious! I have had a ton of tacos and Latin inspired dishes in my day, but this was by far the absolute worst. The menu is uber eclectic and whoever is the brainchild behind this menu is doing way too much without traditional guidance. We started with the black bean and bacon dip. The dip was good but the tortilla chips were fried too hard. What kind of Mexican place can't get chips right? We gave them feedback on this but they clearly weren't receptive to it. The tacos are not properly prepared, all of the toppings are placed at the bottom of the tortilla taking away from the proteins in the taco. We had the flounder tacos that were breaded in Quinoa? Sounds like a decent idea but the execution was lackluster. All of the cabbage crowded the tacos. We also had "crispy" pork tacos with cheese and cucumbers? Same story, Terrible. Lastly, the service was lacking. We had no clear person that was our server. We seemed to be juggled between the 2 bartenders and a hostess. Overall I would highly recommend you to not go to this place. "Elevated Mexican/Latin food" that was poorly executed. Typical Wilmington gentrified food. My disabled, elderly father (uses a cane) was kicked out of savores in the rain by the rude owner "chef" Sam. His party of 4 were told to leave over a seating disagreement. The staff is unaccommodating, discourteous, and unable to meet their diner's needs. If you are disabled (like my father) the owner will not meet your needs and will come all the way out of the kitchen to cause a scene in front of the entire dining room. Discriminating against the elderly and disabled seems to be Savores' style. The servers will lie to the managers who will lie to the "chef". You cannot trust a restaurant that treats people so poorly and then overcharges for tortilla chips and runny "salsa". There are many bad reviews almost all referring to the rude staff and mistreatment of guests. DO NOT GIVE HIM YOUR MONEY!! Please visit another establishment. read more

Today was my first visit to Savorez and chose to go early lunchtime in an attempt to avoid the lunch rush. Going early was a brilliant idea, as it turns out. Savorez was recently ranked in the Yelp top 50 spots for brunch across the U.S. so you know they have something special going on PLUS I've been wanting to go here for awhile now. Chef Sam Cahoon is on to something here with his Latin-inspired twist on food art. FOOD: Sweet Potato - Goat Cheese Guacamole; Langousta Y Coco; Churrasco Tacos with Yucca Frites; Ice water with lemon to drink. Beginning with the "guacamole" dip, it was my #3 favorite thing tasted and it wasn't easy since it all was so good. Without knowing any ingredients other than the sweet potato base, I was mind-blown. The subtle heat from fresh jalapeno, oh-so good goat cheese and the marriage of sweet potatoes with avocados (yes, there is avocado in this, too) is something difficult to describe in words. The creamy, yet fluffy, consistency was perfect and I'm still trying to wrap my head around how Savorez even thought of this idea. Oh, and their housemade tortilla chips to dip in are nothing to sneeze at either: salted well with plenty of crunch. Next up was the langoustine lobster ceviche with a coconut cream sauce. This was my #1 dish tasted today. On every pinnacle level of greatness, this dish....I want it again right now as a matter of fact. The fresh chunks of young lobster bathe in this irresistible coconut cream sauce that has hints of ginger, bell peppers, cilantro and what I thought was dill, but ended up being fennel. At first bite, that ginger punches you. Wasn't sure how I felt about it at first, but then it slowly fades away and showcases the true flavors of lobster meat and coconut. Each bite was progressively better and I wanted to lick the bowl clean. As for the banana chips? My guess is that they're garnish but hell...I ate 'em anyway bc they had been marinating in that cream sauce. I loved this so much I dare to say it's quite possibly the best ceviche in town. Yeah...I said that. Moving on to the main lunch course...the Churrasco Tacos with yucca frites (fries). The yucca fries are my #2 thing tasted just bc they tasted like the thickest and freshest potato fries, but lighter, more crisp and hell...better for you. The seasoning was flawless and that dip...oh baby that dip. I can't describe that dip either other than you need to try it for yourself. The tacos rank at the bottom at #4 for me but it's not that they tasted bad. The steak was uber tender, spiced just right and the corn tortillas were solid. Where the tacos fell short for me was the arugula. Not that it was arugula...but that there was a very generous amount of the bitter greens garnished between the steak and salsa fresca. The first couple of bites were semi-sweet and very bitter from the arugula, overpowering the steak. After I removed half of the arugula and salsa from the second taco, I was able to find the balance and could appreciate the ancho balsamic BBQ spread much more, thus...making me appreciate the blended flavors more. SCORE: 4.5 STARS!! SERVICE: I had the honor of meeting most of the staff, including Chef Sam and my server, Nicole, today and all I can say is....they value your service and patronage at Savorez! Nicole was prompt in her follow ups, everyone was masked up and they certainly enforce the mask rule. One entitled customer felt it necessary to cause a stink once he entered since he was told he needed a mask. Savorez's staff explained that they are doing what is cautious and courteous to other patrons and handled the situation well. Other than that...Nicole was very friendly and knew exactly what to suggest when I asked. My bill came soon after my meal, empty dishes did not sit long and I was thanked for coming in. SCORE: 5 STARS!! OVERALL SCORE: I'm going back for the Langousta Y Coco soon. I want more. The service...y'all got it and keep that schitt up bc it works. Had it not been for the extreme bitterness of the arugula overpowering most on the tacos...this would have easily been 5 stars. 4.7 STARS!! read more

This is one of my favorite date night restaurants! Our last time dining at Savorez was on a Tuesday evening-their daily Tuesday special is1/2 price bottles of wine! I got a great bottle of rose the server helped pick out. We began with tuna tostados- that were incredible! I would definitely recommend getting there early. I arrived 5-10 minutes before opening, and after I was seated the small space started to quickly fill. Everything was worth it. I had the guacamole (some of the best I've ever had, and that says a lot because I'm originally from Texas), sangria and quinoa-crusted flounder fish tacos. I visited Savorez for the first time at lunch today. It is small and very colorful. I was greeted as soon I came in by staff. The server was very nice and helpful in deciding what side would go with my order. There is very limited seating, and not recommended if you have more than 3 in your party. Most tables are for 2, and there are seats available at the bar. I ordered the Seared Tuna Tacos. They were served on corn tortillas w/ pickled cabbage, jalapeno aioli, avocado, pineapple salsa, cilantro. They were AMAZING!!! Instead of tuna, I had wahoo. So flavorful and beautiful. We were promptly approached by a bubbly waitstaff who served us our requested cocktails. We had the sangria and mule, which were good but nothing super unique and chalk full of ice. We came in around 8:30pm on a Monday. The restaurant was quiet and the staff seemed friendly overall, but you could tell they were ready to close even though they were open until 10pm. We received our drinks quickly and ordered the langousta y coco and the smoked tuna empanadas. The langousta was good, but the tortilla chips were burnt. The empanadas were okay as well, unique concept, as I've never had tuna empanadas before, but the flavors didn't wow me. We were still hungry after these two tapas so we ordered the arroz con pollo to split. The plating was nice and the chicken was fall-off-the-bone tender with good flavor, but the rice was simultaneously undercooked and over cooked, while also being plain and watery. It was like a botched bag of Minute Rice. Would give them another chance due to the other positive reviews, but would come at a different time of day and try some different menu items. read more

This eatery is off the beaten track, past Thalian Hall. We came to this place on a rainy yet busy Saturday afternoon. A lot places were either closed or had super long waits (30 min or longer). So we decided to give it a try. I ordered the churrasco taco. It was good, but not great. So are the chips. It wasn't one of the cleanest place, either, when I went to the bathroom in the back. This is the best restaurant I've been to in a long time. Be prepared for a wait because it is a very small building. Worth the wait though! Fresh, botanical and some twists on the classics. Menu had a similar vibe. Tried regular guac and also a guac with sweet potato and goat cheese- it worked. Friend had very tasty shrimp and grits and I went for one of the specials: blackened sheepshead with beet buerre blanc, persimmon salsa over white bean and beet green sauté, with a pistachio gremolata.
