I needed a real bed. For the last 16 years I have been sleeping on just the frame and box spring. It was time to grow up and get a bed. After a bad experience and a 5 week wait at another store we tried Scandinavian Designs. They have a huge show room and tons of items that were marked down "as is" floor models. We found a great bed on Friday and it was delivered on Monday. The sales lady was super friendly and helpful. The delivery guy took his shoes off without being asked (we just had our floors refinished)! This experience was night and day different than were we at before. What did I learn today? We were looking some for some bedroom furniture and found some nice contemporary pieces here but nothing that me and my wife could agree on. Finally, as we were leaving we chanced upon their sale section and found an amazing set that we actually both loved (wife loved the design and I loved the price). However it was missing couple items and the store put it on hold for us while they hunted for the missing parts at their other stores and warehouse. They assured us that they will either find the parts or get us some replacement from their pocket. All we did was paid a deposit. Store called us promptly a day later to let us know that they are still searching and will keep us updated. Then we never heard from them for a few days :-(. But by the weeks end they called again and confirmed the set was complete. I was very impressed that the store went through so much trouble to help us with a close out on sale product which was being sold as-is. Delivery was great. They said they would deliver between 11 and 2pm on a Wed. I asked them if they could move it to after 3pm so I wouldn't have to miss an important meeting. They said unfortunately no. I stayed home the whole day and then they show up at 3:30pm!! Horrible communication and service, it was ridiculous. Edit: So I'm changing my review because the delivery person and store manager called me to apologize and gave me credit for the hassle. In addition, they sent someone at 7:30pm to assemble my furniture and pickup a table I didn't want. I am very impressed with their customer service and will continue to shop for furniture at Scandinavian. read more

This review is for all the Corte Madera, Concord and Berkeley locations (the last one is closed). I purchased six so-called "leather" dining chairs at the Berkeley location a number of years ago and they have fallen apart, shredding and peeling. I went to the stores looking for some help and guidance, also hoping that perhaps they would give me some credit, or at least a good price, for new chairs. What I got was the complete run-around: Corte Madera store sent me to the Concord store saying that they would have the records of the purchase and help me, but, no, they wouldn't and told me to go to the San Mateo store. Enough running around for nothing! Their products are low quality and they have poor, if any, customer service. read more

Let me start by saying that my parents purchased all of their furniture from Scandinavian Designs over 2 decades ago. Not only has all of it lasted, but the designs are so modern and timeless that anybody who visits gawk at its beauty and ask where it was purchased from, as they now do for my newly furnished condo. Special shout out to Jessica at their Concord store who has been an exceptional help! She has gone above and beyond in every possible way - from her encyclopedic knowledge of each piece of furniture, how to best maintain it, adjusting for discounts where possible, to answering all of my silly interior design related questions. The customer service doesn't stop there though. The installers were equally swift and professional in getting all of the furniture properly setup. They even noticed a factory defect on the dining table and personally coordinated with their office to get it replaced within the week - all free of additional charge. Could not be happier and beyond proud to show off my new spot. I typically don't post yelp reviews, but can safely say as long as they continue to do what their doing, I will exclusively purchase all my furniture from Scandinavian Designs. read more

I was impressed with how large this store was compared to the tiny Berkeley store. This is a good place to go if you are looking for an Ekornes Stressless recliner since they seem to have all of the models on display for you to try. I was able to spend some quality time trying them without being bothered by a hovering salesperson, which I appreciated. That said, I walked around the entire store and only liked a small percentage of the furniture I saw. I did end up buying a Stressless recliner however and it was delivered into my home within 3 weeks. Although they are quite expensive, they really are the best recliners. read more

We recently bought some new dining room chairs at Scandinavia Designs. They certainly weren't cheap, costing us about $1600 for 4 chairs and a bench. It certainly improved the look of our dining room, though, since the last set of chairs were completely shredded by our two destructive cats. Good prices, good selection... The only reason I'm not giving these guys 5 stars is that the salesperson who helped us out was somewhat short and not particularly friendly. If I were a Doctor, I'd say Asperger's. read more

Is it just a slightly higher quality Ikea? Seems like it. I like the designs, but have to keep reminding myself that it's veneer. Tried the leather swivel recliners but they were very inferior to the ones we eventually purchased at Arizona Leather. Nice big store. The furniture has pretty modern lines and compared to what else I've seen appears to be great quality, and their prices are great. I walked in the store and after a friendly greeting was left alone for a little while to explore the store which is big and in two levels. I found a sofa upstairs, had a question, and a sales person was right there answering it and making sure that all my questions to that point were answered. I found a bedroom set I really liked, and I'm sure I'll be back when I finally do move into my new apartment. read more

However, we got no acknowledgment from the SIX salespeople who were busy chatting with each other and/or immersed in their computers. We walked around the entire store and NO ONE came to assist us. I've just finished re-furnishing our house with Scandinavian Designs furniture (our old furniture went to our son's house in Tahoe). We have been customers of Scandinavian Designs for more than 20 years. This current shopping process lasted about a month and included several visits to the store as well as several emails and telephone calls. From the start we dealt with Irina Alexander (and the store manager Turi). Irina was personable, knowledgeable and attentive--a true professional. Nothing was too much trouble. Our overall showroom experience with Scandinavian Designs, and Irina in particular, was first class. We had two large orders--one delivered in the East Bay and the other delivered to Tahoe. The firms Scandinavian Designs used for delivery were also extremely good--on time, with good communications about arrival windows. If only all my shopping experiences were this good. Was hesitant to go to Scandinavian F. , due to the negative yelp reviews. I was so pleasantly surprised! I had almost immediate help from Jessica, who listened to what I was looking for and guided me to a good area , where to look. She seemed always available for questions and suggestions. I liked a special sofa and a hassock and she checked for availability and delivery on the computer and made sure, that it was in stock and gave me delivery choices. She was super efficient and I liked her service very much. The delivery person, Brian, called me and said that he could deliver earlier than stated...if I wanted it. Gave me choices. He showed up right on time ( which I appreciated very much...being a very punctual person), set up the sofa and was gone. the place looks great, if you want to spend all day in a nice atmosphere then this place is for you. but as I stood around, walked around, sat on the couches and chairs, i noticed other people doing the same thing, and one guy who finally got attention said he was looking for help for a long time and finally fell asleep on the couch. that is a little ridiculous. we came to buy something in particular, we knew what we wanted and no one helped us or even looked at us for a good 20-30 minutes so we just left... the prices are high, but the quality is good so that just evens out there. the service seemed polite from what little i could over hear, but maybe there isn't enough people working? if you have a lot of money and a lot of time, I can see how this place would be really nice though. it just wasn't for me. read more

We purchased a leather electric reclining sofa here a little under two years ago. While moving the sofa, the transformer box which is part of the extensive electrical cords underneath was smashed when it was left under the lowest area of the sofa. No one had told us that the sofa was not an even height underneath. We contacted the store and within days they had a new transformer waiting for us and at no cost even though it was our fault!!! That's incredible customer service. They carry quality products and we will continue shopping here. read more

HOW did I never know of this fabulous furniture store? I thought I was stuck with the WC stores until I found Scandinavian Designs. The sore is huge and has SO many great selection. Wonderful experience purchasing our furniture, but delivery process? Not so much. We were on the look out for a new media center to put in our loft area upstairs, when I thought of SD. I had not been here in years, but had always admired some of their furniture and figured it was worth checking out again. I really appreciate the " non- pushy" sales approach they use ; just allowing us to do our thing looking around. Lucky us, we found a media center that we absolutely fell in love with. That's when we decided to hunt down a sales rep to ask some questions. Sarah was the sales rep that helped us, and she was extremely friendly and professional. We ended up purchasing this beautiful piece and found out they had one in the warehouse and that it could be delivered within 3 days - perfect!! The whole transaction and sales process was smooth and easy. Now, the delivery process. Two guys showed up to deliver the extremely heavy piece upstairs. First thing, we just moved into a brand new home,and our carpets upstairs are very light. I just briefly mentioned if the delivery guy would be wearing booties he said " Oh, sorry - I forgot them" really?? What " professional" delivery service just " forgets" booties. Anyhow, I ended up just letting it go, and allowed him to proceed to go out to the delivery truck to get the furniture; that's when I saw what they were delivering it in - just a regular pickup truck. Now mind you, its on the verge of raining any hour, and the furniture piece was not properly protected - no padding to slide the furniture on to the bottom of the truck, just plastic wrapping around the top....really? I was so shocked to immediately see the unprofessional way they were delivering the furniture, especially considering Scandinavian Design would be a " Professional" furniture store. I then mentioned it to the guy taking it out of the truck, he said " That's on Scandinavian Designs" I then just said how shocked I was that there is no proper packaging and covering considering its supposed to rain...which it did, an hour later! What if it did rain sooner ?? I mean, come on. Anyhow, that's when the guy immediately became very argumentative, defensive and down right rude. He say's " Oh, you wanna say a complaint" Why don't you just call the store and complain" I said, I want you to deliver my furniture, and he just snaps back and says " No, call the store and complain" I was so shocked he was talking to me like this - completely unprofessional and to be completely honest, down right ghetto. I then snapped at him and said, " Oh, I will complain, but you have to deliver my furniture first". They then got the furniture up easily I will say. He then went on to apologize about not wearing the booties which I just said was fine. I signed the papers and they left. I then called and spoke to the store manager to complain about my experience. If they take it into consideration, who knows. Overall though, as greatly impressed with the media center we purchased, it is highly unlikely that we will ever purchase furniture from them again. read more
