Pros: Large Selection of "Scandinavian Styled" furniture. Next step up in quality for this sort of thing beyond IKEA. No cheesey restaurant. Can order a variety of different finishes beyond their stock. Cons: A little pricey, but not out of line. Check the boxes for damage... their warehouse staff are not overly cautious in handling the boxed, disassembled stuff. Yeah, you have to put most of the stuff together. Overall, I keep going back here for bookcases, enterainment centers, etc. Most of the particle board stuff at least has a real wood veneer, not the laminate/contact paper finish of the lower end-stuff. Pieces that I have picked up here seem to be holding up well through a couple of moves and 8+ years of service. read more

Basically wandered in here because everything else is closed on Sunday on Miramar Rd. Giant store with a huge selection of IKEA-esque furniture but of slightly higher quality. It all looks pretty but I just know if I took anything home, my kids and cat would scratch it before I even removed the sticker. Minimalist lines, lots of leather and acrylic finished. If you like modern, even mid-century, it's a bit of eye candy. Prices seem very reasonable. However, it took a couple of minutes for anyone to even greet me. I had to lock eyes twice with a salesman before he even said hello. And the place was empty. They will need to be a bit more inviting if they want to last in this market. Plummers is like a high end IKEA, especially when it comes to their bedroom furniture. When I first moved to San Diego, I bought my queen bed, nightstand and chest, and queen mattress, it easily cost me $1400. After just one move, pieces started to fall apart since they are assembled together w/ these cheap screw on joints and low quality, pressed sawdust. We were visiting from Northern California. Wanted to buy a living room chair, but told they wouldn't sell floor model. I would have to wait 5 days for it to be ordered. No matter that I was leaving in 3 days. No matter that they could re-order and have the new one for themselves, only being without the floor model for a couple of days. Talked to 2 different sales people and they were both quick to shut us down; not willing to even discuss it. Had the cash in hand. All the other furniture stores we visited said no problem, everything is for sale. And you can't buy anything from Plummers online, only in the local stores. Doesn't do us much good when we're several hours away. In this economy, you'd think they would want to move stock as quickly as possible. Not Plummers. Guess they don't need our business. read more

I had a worse experience with Plummers. I talked to Dave. He was the rudest and very unprofessional person. I placed an order for a chair and talked to the manager for warranty. They gave me a written warranty that didn't say much about what is covered in it. I ask for more details and was told they will not give anything in written about what is covered. Than my order got delayed by a week. I asked for some good faith discount for the inconvenience caused to me. But no again a rude answer I tried to get hold of Aart the manager but was never able to get him on the phone read more

I bought a media console and a set of dining chairs. Everything came quickly and is absolutely beautiful. After many hours of online searching I found products here that met my needs which I couldn't find elsewhere. The media cabinet was wide enough for my Scrabble box at 18 inches. I couldn't find another one in white anywhere with that width, beauty and price. The chairs are also one of a kind, in two-tone teal and gray. They are unique and everybody who sees them says wow! I have been shopping at Scandinavian Designs (SD) for 10 years. 90% of the furniture and art in the house I have purchased from SD. Note that I started with a vacant house, so the number of purchases is very large. I have always been able to find what I need at SD. On the few occasions when the merchandise turned out to be below par SD made the necessary repairs or replaced the item in question. I find the sales people to be very knowledgeable and helpful. The icing on the cake is that the store layout is great and always fun to go around the store and browse. If you like contemporary furniture, it is the place to shop in, since the selection is good and the prices reasonable. read more

We looked at pretty much all the furniture stores for a sectional and they were all too large and bulky for our space - Luckily we visited Scandinavian Designs store and they had a great collection of sectionals for all space types and priced really reasonable for the quality and design. Just an update...we returned to Scandinavian Designs to purchase a "Stress-less Recliner." It was Art's day off, yet he answered his cell phone and spent a half-hour with me to explain all my options and his recommendation for the three models (out of about 2 dozen) that he thought I would like. He notified Kevin, one of his salesmen, on duty that we were heading to the store. When we got there, Kevin (a.k.a Clark Kent), was ready and waiting to help us. He, too, knows the furniture line and was friendly, professional and helped us. Kevin was able to have the exact chair on premise within a week. This chair was a replacement for another one on order from a competitor who couldn't deliver as promised -- in over 12 weeks. Ask to see Kevin's Superman tattoo on his chest to verify it is really Superman...I swear it is. He won't disappoint. read more

Though we ended up refusing our bedroom furniture several times due to manufacturer defects we still like this place, a lot. The furniture was made in Oregon but we had bad luck since there was always an imperfection (minor but visible) with the finish. I ordered few items over the phone, went in for a pick up after a week, next thing you know, salesman couldn't locate my items because the order never went through (of course, they drew money right out of my banking account, five stars on that! I have been to ALL the furniture stores on line and in SD. This store has by far the best quality for the price. The designs are beautiful. If you want to chose something that will last....the price won't be much different from the cheap stuff. The salesperson was great..I told him what we were looking for...he showed us all the options in the store...no pressure or hassle. These people are good. I was hinky about buying furniture without seeing it in store, but the virus forced me to buy off the website. I hit a big sale, and a knowledgeable salesman. They were easy to get on the phone; another place never called back. Delivery was smooth, and I had them assemble and set up to avoid problems. Purchasing, delivery experience were great until we noted a part of the couch missing. We ordered custom couch (custom color and size) which took 4 months to build ship and deliver. Once it came to the house, it was realized there was an entire section of the couch (additional armless to make couch longer) was missing and do you think these people did the right thing? THEY DID!..or I should say...are planning to. Art, the stores manager called this morning and advised that because it's a custom color, simply ordering the armless chair would not be the right thing to do (color most likely would be different from rest of the couch then introducing a new problem) so he is planning to order an entirely new couch and wants us to keep this one for the four months it will take to get the new one. Once the new one is delivered, we simply swap them out. The error was made by the supplier (checked paperwork and all was accurate, supplier shipped wrong piece) but Scandinavian Designs did the right thing in my opinion and in less than a 5 minute conversation, apologized and recommended the action mentioned above. Situations like these quickly let you know if you're supporting a good business and if you want to return and although unfortunate having to wait 4 more months, I'm happy assuming what the manager is recommending, actually gets done. read more

I think this company is very customer service focused!! I purchased a beautiful table from them and had it for 3 months. It had a problem which got worse. I called them and the man could not have been nicer. He said I should have called them when it started but told me that they absolutely would come and fix the problem. Said they always stand buy their furniture and wanted their customers to be satisfied and happy. They came fixed it and the table is fine. I would not hesitate to buy from them again!!
