I'm lactose intolerant but this will be a favorite for the area. Cheese lovers! Here is your mecca! VENUE: The store itself may get missed, so look for it. There are only 2-3 parking spots out front, so be prepared to find street parking somewhere else and walk. When you walk into the shop you'll note right away the meat market/fish market/(insert specialty food of choice) market vibe and feel. Very light and airy, with the smell of cheese punching you in the face as you walk in. Be prepared for it. It's not terrible - but it'll catch you off guard. There aren't too many tables for seating so try and nab one fast. There's a lot of natural lighting and everything is so aesthetically laid out. FOOD: Ordered the PEAR AND POINT with a salad, as well as the SWEET ITALIAN with a side of sweet potato chips. PEAR AND POINT: Not as sweet as you'd think but still a great combination of flavors. The cheese simply gushes out when you take a bite, so hold from the bottom to keep all the cheese in. Salad was ho hum. Just a simple one of greens with dressing. Skip it and get the sweet potato chips for a nice change of pace. SWEET ITALIAN: Oh my goodness gracious. The fig confit. Amazing. Just a medley of deliciousness. The prosciutto add just the right amount of saltiness to balance the sweetness of the fig. And the cheese, which you would think would be the star of this sandwich (since you know, we're at a cheese shop), actually takes a back seat and ties in together the sweet and salty perfectly. This one was my favorite. My ONLY tiff about the sandwiches were that the bread was SUPER crunchy. Which some may enjoy- I on the other hand have sensitive gums and prefer softer bread. SERVICE: The one guy working was working extra hard. He cut the bread slices, toasted, sliced, and put together everything with care. Much appreciation goes out to that guy. Loved this place. I bookmarked Scardello after reading Paul S's review just in case I found myself in the area. I recently had work in the DFW area and was happy to find a place with two of my favorite things, cheese and wine. Going in I knew I wanted the cheese plate which is $5 for the set up plus your cheese. The wine by the glass menu is modest in quantity but not quality. You can also order wine by the bottle. I opted for bubbles and was completely lost in pairing the bubbles with the intimidating amount of cheese in the display. The employee assisting us kindly offered to pick out a few that pair well with bubbles and she was spot on. The cheese plate is served with slices of baguette, dried fruit and Moroccan almonds. The cheese they paired with the bubbles were: Guffanti Robiola La Tur - creamy and tangy made from cow, goat and sheep milk. It has a similar texture of brie but more complex taste. This cheese is made in Italy. Mélodie - is a brie made of goat's milk. It has a similar texture and creaminess and a cow brie but has a hint of floral flavor. Mélodie is made in Sonoma from their local dairies. Bleu di Buffala - bleu cheese made from Buffalo milk. This is very different from the blue cheese I am accustomed too. It had a gamey earthy flavor. This cheese is made in Italy. I loved all three cheeses but the earthiness of the Bleu di Buffala was my favorite. I also had a bite of The T.O.H.M which I would definitely recommend. The fennel salami and Toma cheese with greens on a baguette makes for a flavorful sandwich. Although Scardello's focal point is cheese and wine they also sell Texas beer, craft beer, wine accessories, and salts among other things. Notably they have unique salts for sale and they provide tasters of the salt. I recently took an hour long salt class and fell in love with Murray River salt. Everyone needs a little cheese in their lives, but for me, that was never the case when it came to blocks of cold cheese. As much as I love wine, I've never been one of those "wine and cheese" enthusiasts. But, after checking out Scardello's website to see what they were all about, I learned that they offer cheese classes of all sorts. Being that my fiancé is a cheese lover, I thought this would be a nice surprise date to have with him, which it was! French wine happens to be my most favorite, so I signed us up for the French Cheese and Wine class. For $40 a person, it came with ten types of cheeses, along with four different wine tastings (to equal two glasses of wine). For all of this, along with a cheese expert and sommelier, I think it was definitely worth it! I learned a lot about which types of cheeses I like and don't like. For someone that's never been interested in cheese, we actually bought two of our favorites to take home with us at the end of the class. I thought the class was perfect for an interacting date night with other people, cheese, and wine. It looks like it could also be fun for a few of my girlfriends to attend a class together. I do recommend eating a light dinner before or after the class is over. But, if you opt for dinner after class, you may end up eating a lot of the bread at the table. The staff is always really friendly, and best of all, helpful. I've tried a handful of samples before, and no one batted an eye in annoyance. There are soooo many options at Scardello that I've resorted to writing down the ones I really enjoyed so that my next visit is easier (i.e., I'll ask for less samples... maybe). I'm a stiff cheese fan. I even love cheese so much that I can eat regular blocks of cheddar cheese on the norm. If you feel the same love for cheddar cheese, some of my recent favs have been the Rob Ander Gouda, the Stag White Cheddar, and the Cottonwood River Cheddar. Let's talk cheese. ... ... Alright. I'm done. I know nothing about cheese. But the workers at Scardello certainly do! Really well too! Coming to Scardello is an experience. One where you get to learn about the dozens of different cheeses made from different animals (cow, goat, sheep, water buffalo?!) and made into different textures with names I will not be able to pronounce. The server we had was absolutely superb. He went down the aisle and presented to us the various cheeses on display, sharing a quick history and fun fact if there was one, and gave us a sample of the freshly cut product when our palate was intrigued. We got an order of the cheese plate, and decided on 4 cheeses in the end. I would highly recommend trying the plate out, with your own combination of your favorite cheeses. On the side, my friend and I shared the THOM (This One Has Meat) sandwich, which when supplemented with the cheese plate, was the perfect amount of food for a satisfying lunch. So, Yelp told me to come to Scardello as the top recommended place in Dallas. I had to make a few U-Turns to get parking, but it was worth it. The space is a quaint little aisle with a few tables of rough hewn wood. The colors are all beige and brick. It smells softly of wine when you enter, and bottles of it line the back wall and other spirits are in a cooler at the front, as well as some pretentious specialty sodas. I bought a fancy nonalcoholic Rose Lemonade imported from Canada. It was half lemonade/half ginger ale. Totally a hipster haven. I ordered a full cheese and meat charcuterie plate to try their most popular stuff with heavy flavor. Here are the cheeses: "Ewephoria" Aged Gouda from Holland: (5 STAR) - Excellent! Sweet, Bold, Nutty, Delicious! I loved this cheese. Goat Cheese/Brie (3 star-upper right) The cheese was pretty to look at but pretty bitter, with the consistency of a Brie. Sweet Italian soft 3-milk blend (5 star-center right) This was delicious cheese, soft, mild, sweet, flavorful. Blue #1 "Two Face Blue" (2 star) Very bitter with a grating aftertaste. Not recommended. Blue #2 Italian: (3 star) Vanilla aftertaste, a little sweet, pleasant blue cheese. Vermont: (3.5 star-bottom left in a long rod): This was a pleasant, smooth, mild cheese with a lovely consistent flavor. Oregon 2 Milk Blend, Cow and Goat (4 star-left center): Delicious with a brighter flavor, smooth and sweeter, slightly sharp. The remaining charcuterie items were excellent: the prosciutto, the pistachio pâté, and the sliced meats were so paper thin they were all translucent. I've been here for their sandwiches, their Saturday wine tasting, and to one of their cheese classes. The sandwiches are absolutely amazing, but I feel like they never make enough (and I eat like a bird). They sometimes run out of of their normal sandwich bread so you may or may not be stuck with a substitute baguette-like-super-hard type of bread. I am a huge fan of their Saturday wine tastings because you get 4 glasses of wine, usually 2 reds and 2 whites, as well as 4 different types of cheese. The cheese is practically unlimited so you can keep going up there for seconds or thirds or fourths. I also went to their Chocolate, Cheese, and Bubbles class on Valentine's Day. It's still such an amazing place after all these yearss! My go-to Sandwich is the MOUNTAINEER which I highly recommend to people to try if they love a good ol' artisan twist to the grilled cheese sandwich. Made with three Swiss cheeses (hence mountain in the name), the sandwich is served with a small light salad and placed between a well baked sliced bread loaf made in the area. It costs around $9 for the meal drink not included. It's great to eat there or on the go. But when you have good cheese - it's best you find a place to really savor the flavor. The staff are still extremely friendly and have such great suggestions for the type of cheese you're wanting. Lance took care of us and helped us create our charcuterie board. We told him the types of cheeses that we use as our staple, and he recommended a Flagsheep, Gouda, and the other, I can't remember. Either way, they were ALL delicious!! We paired them with Copa, and an American salami which were both equally amazing in taste and texture. The only 2 reasons I don't give Scardello 5 stars is because the lack of seating. There is very limited seating (good thing we came on a Monday!) and also because they close at 7pm. We spent a good 30 minutes picking out both our perfect bottle of wine and 3 cheeses to dine-in, giving us only about 45 minutes to hang out before it was 7pm. When a place boasts over 100 types of cheeses... I add it to the list of things to do without hesitation. My husband and I went here to pick up some cheese to take home and ended up sitting down and enjoying a cheese plate. I told the woman behind the counter we were in her hands. I briefly described some of our favorite cheeses and left the decision making to her. We were both very pleased with her knowledge and selection. A quaint little place in a busy Turtle Creek area is a nice little gem. Locals from the area were rushing in before close to grab cheeses for their wine nite in at home, they close a bit early so make sure you get there in ample time. While we chose not to imbibe, they seemed to have a fair wine selection and a recommendation guide for cheese pairing. Most definitely will go back. This all being said, actual service was a bit disjointed. Our server left halfway through our time there and I don't believe our table was passed on to anyone else. The check out process can become a little cluttered with those that are coming in to take cheeses to go. My husband and I were overlooked for a bit while waiting at the counter. But once it was addressed, the GM on duty apologized profusely and offered to put our cheese purchase on the house. My husband and I have a combined 20+ years in the service industry so I know when things are busy, things can be easily overlooked. Everyone here is marvelous--helpful and friendly and they all seem to love working here. I've gotten a cheese plate and a bottle of wine two different times now and loved both experiences. The side nibbles (dried apricots and cherries, almonds, dried figs, baguette slices) are wonderful with the cheese (I tend to go for bries, camembert, gouda, cheddars, etc...not into bleu, sorry!) and the pricing was very reasonable. It's pretty much cheaper to get a bottle of wine rather than doing it by-the-glass (though they do have some pricier bottles!) and you can take what's left with you. This place seems to do a healthy business, which makes me happy, but I've never seen it crazy busy to a point where it's annoying/noisy/impossible to get helped! My kind of place. Was definitely not disappointed when we checked it out on Friday night. We signed up for the Chocolate Cheese and Bubbles class as a pre Valentine's Day celebration. Arrived early so we could see what the shop was all about. We split a Mountaineer sandwich (a delicious grilled cheese sandwich) and a cheese board. We asked the lady working the counter to come up with the perfect cheese board for us based off of our recommendations of cheeses we usually like and ones we don't. She did a great job picking out three awesome cheeses (a gouda, a cheddar, and a triple cream). The board came with dried cherries, apricots, and almonds. So delicious, all of it. The actual class was also highly entertaining. We were able to sample 8 cheeses, 4 chocolates from Dude Sweet Chocolate, and 4 bubbles (sparkling wine and champagne). Not a fan of blue cheeses or goat cheeses, but I tried the ones they put in front of us. I wouldn't try them again, but the ladies sitting at our table enjoyed them... So if that's your thing, you'll be able to find a good selection here as well. After our class, we did purchase two of the cheeses we had on our original cheese board and one from the class we had participated in. The lady who checked us out also told us about a wine and cheese tasting they have for $10 on Saturdays starting at 3:00. Since we were going to be in the area on Saturday, we ended coming back to do that. It was a great deal. We got to try four cheeses and four wines. Holy gorgonzola batman! This place is awesome. I love independent specialty shops like this and it's certain to become a hit! They have a huge selection of cheeses made from milk of my favorite three barnyard animals: cow, goat and sheep. The folks behind the counter were so helpful and really know their product. They'll even let you sample anything you want before buying. That's not something you'd ever get from Central Market or Eatzies. Buying cheese from these other places is sometimes a crap shoot if you're not too sure what a $15 lump of dairy is going to taste like. We've all done the smell-through-plastic-wrap test, which is usually worthless! They even have small tables for you to enjoy a few cheeses with bread while you are over there. This part of town is turning into a pretty decent shopping spot.
