We hosted our wedding rehearsal dinner at Scarlet Oak on a Friday in the fall, for about 30 people. Brian reserved the entire outdoor patio for our party and arranged the tables, place cards and menus according to a seating arrangement we provided the day of the event. The space was perfect for that size event and probably could have comfortably held another 10-20 people with room to mingle and stand. The food was delicious and we worked out the menu a month or so before. Brian provided us a bunch of options and worked with us when we wanted to explore another fish option. We had a buffet style meal for dinner and plated appetizers that the adults and the children absolutely loved. The burrata salad, bucatini, salmon and fried chicken were the stars of the show! Went to their sister restaurant, Southern Hospitality, for brunch the week before I came here. A lot of the menu items are similar but Scarlet Oak has some pizzas that looked intriguing. I got the sausage pizza which had crumbled sausage on it. I didn't love it but it wasn't too bad. I don't normally like chicken on pizzas but my friend got the chicken pesto pizza which was actually very good. The vibe of the restaurant is very classy and decor is really nice. Lots of tufted leather booths and long tables. We came in a big group and I know big groups can be annoying sometimes but our server was soo nice and kept bringing carafes of mimosas out. My friend got her entree only three or four minutes after everyone else but the server brought her a free salad while she waited to apologize for the delay. Also, get a frose! SO GOOD. My friends and I had a great time here and no one was pushing us out the door so I would definitely come back, but would probably order something else next time. read more

What a wonderful experience! I was at Scarlet Oak yesterday for their happy hour and it was great. The bartender, Megan, was so wonderful. She prepared our drinks perfectly and was very friendly and attentive, along with the rest of the staff. They really know how to work together and everyone that worked there appeared friendly and attentive to all guests. We ordered the Brussels sprouts, tempura salmon, roasted cauliflower, and a bottle of rose. My friend also ordered a margarita which she said was great. Attending this "establishment" has been the worst experience in my hometown. If it was possible for me to give zero stars on Yelp, I would! First, one of the "owners" told us we were too loud in a tasteless tone ( although other people were being loud in the restaurant and we reserved our space in the bar area. Typically, all bars environments are loud.) One of the six "owners" continued to be rude and said our complaints of the service are not valued because he is one of the "owners" and said nothing will be done. Usually, an owner of the restaurant takes care of its costumers, but these owners did not receive that information. They also did not receive the information that you need to see everyone's identification, as some of my colleagues saw underage customers receiving alcoholic beverages. Later, one of my colleagues forgot her bank card at this "establishment" and was told she was not welcomed here by another "owner". After receiving her bank card, they called the police because they felt that we were a "threat" to their "establishment". All in all, disrespectful, entitled and racist staff and "owners", food was mediocre and drinks were not made well. read more

We all know COVID has placed restrictions on providing dine-in services. However, this place seems to only care about making $$. I had a 1.5hr table limit which was very reasonable. That was until an hour into my reservation a check was brought out and both the waiter and manager told me and my guest that the other party was here and they needed to seat them. We've dined at Scarlett Oak regularly for at least the past 3 years. The menu here is pretty good, and the service has generally been on spot on, so we definitely were surprised by the poor service we experienced today, which was bad enough to compel us not to tip--our first time ever not tipping. Our waitress was inattentive, dishonest (she lied), and showed us that we were not a priority by not even come back to close out our check. Dining here (or anywhere) was and is always a choice, and with so many good dining options both in DC generally and in Navy Yard specifically, it's imperative that the service stays consistent with what we had experience prior to today. read more

I wish the cheese was a sauce instead of just what appeared to be sprinkled on. I had some pizza which was tasty. Matchbox is my standard for pizza and this wasn't it. The balcony was very nice. Last year, I'd have rated Scarlet Oak close to five stars. Last year it looked the same, was in the same spot...but last year it had a southern/comfort food kind of menu that included some absolutely unbelievable fried chicken, mac and cheese and collard greens. This year it looks like they've tried to make the menu a little more "sophisticated," featuring none of the comfort food stuff that I loved last year. This sucks. At least the chicarrones are still there. Anyhow, I ordered a pizza - which isn't exactly sophisticated, but felt like the closest to what I was after. It was very good. My friend's chicken sandwich was also super good. Good service, very nice spot...and FINALLY, something within a short walk of the Courtyard at the Navy Yard. If this place hadn't had such an awesome menu last year, I'd probably have given it four stars. But I'm too disappointed in the regression. read more

Nice space with great service! We came on a Thursday which is their all night happy hour. Their house white was surprisingly good and I had no problem finishing two glasses before dinner. My boyfriend and I split the brussels sprouts and grilled octopus for appetizers. The brussels were cripsy and bitter with a light drizzle of crema. Delicious. I'm not sure how much octopus I've had in my life, but the dish was good. Four strips of tentacle on top of a bed of frise salad, fennel, cannellini beans, and a spicy tomato sauce. The sauce overpowered the dish but it was still enjoyable. I had the beef brisket for my entree and my boyfriend got the flat iron. Both were absolutely delicious! Pasta had some bite to it and generous amounts of tender brisket inside. The sage butter sauce paired beautifully and the trumpet mushrooms were a nice contrast. The bite of steak I had was tasty, but the real star was the parsnip potato puree. Pure bliss! Reasonable portions that don't leave you stuffed. That said, we did opt for dessert. That meant a bourbon cocktail for the bf and a slice of pumpkin pie for me. Drinks were beautiful and strong. Pie was sadly nothing special, but the ice cream and caramel sauce were on point. I had heard about Scarlet Oak, but didn't have many expectations. Luckily we were able to get a table right away, despite it being very crowded with guests who were clearly living it up with the bottomless mimosa option. I enjoyed the ambiance, everything inside is very modern and the chairs are very comfortable. They had a few large tables and booths which are perfect for big groups. I noticed there was a baby shower and a birthday party going on, and the space worked well for both of these parties. I had a hard time deciding on what to order as everything sounded delicious. I went with chicken & waffles. I enjoyed the meal, but probably wouldn't order it again as the waffles were very dry. My husband had the chicken havarti sandwich which he loved. Overall this place will satisfy almost anyone, and pricing is very fair. I will definitely be back to try the crab Benedict! read more

The layout of the main dining area is very odd and frankly a little uncomfortable. There were open booths with no one in them by the windows but people were crammed in to these close together tables in the middle of the floor instead. I ordered the chicken and french onion soup which were both good. However they not only came out at the same time but without the food for my dining companion. He ordered a Cesar salad which should have taken less time to prepare than either of my two items but we didn't receive it til I was almost done with my meal. The waitress was apologetic and polite. Went with a group of 10 on a Friday night and they were easily able to accommodate and seat us, even without a reservation. That's unheard of in DC. The service continued to be super friendly and accommodating. The food was all great, some options smaller than others, but you can't go wrong with the pizza. It's filling and very tasty. The service was pretty good, the food was very good and we also enjoyed our dessert (which we took to go). My wife had the gnocchi and shrimp and she loved it. I also had a few tastes and thought it was excellent. I had the crab cake sandwich with fries and it was also very good. They have a solid happy hour (at the bar only), so we sat for a few minutes - I had a draught beer and my wife had a glass of wine. Overall it was a pleasant meal and I would have rated than 5 stars, except it took forever to get our check. That's kind of a pet peeve of mine. I would say it's definitely worth a visit. I went to Scarlet Oak after enjoying a beautiful, sunny Saturday strolling around the Wharf with some family. I made reservations for 8:45 in the event it was busy, it wasn't. We arrived to find no one at the host station, first bad sign. Eventually, a waiter took us to a table outside. We sat for about 10 minutes until we asked another waiter who our server was. She finally came over and apologized for the wait and brought us water, but no menus. She returned with the menus and 2 of us ordered drinks. We were all famished so when I spotted her again I told her we were ready to order. Instead of taking our order she gave us the one minute finger and said she was going to grab our drinks. Soon after she came back and said our drinks weren't ready after all and took our orders. Between the four of us, we ordered 3 sandwiches and a fish taco appetizer. It literally took 45 minutes for our food to come and it was lukewarm at best. Had it been busy I could have somewhat understood the wait but considering it was pretty dead and most of the tables had cleared out by 9pm, it didn't make sense that simple orders would take so long. Overall the service was lacking, the food wasn't hot, and I left still hungry. The whole time we were waiting we thought about leaving and walking to the nearby Korean fried chicken place, we definitely should have gone with our instincts. read more

I WAITED TOOOO LONG!!! Scarlet Oak is GEM just walking distance from my apt! I've wanted to go since it opened 9 months ago and finally got a chance to on a Monday afternoon. This place is grog. Understated yet chic. I love it. The staff was super friendly. My neighbor and I had the pleasure of being served by one of the owners, Brian, who was behind the bar. Brian is amazing! I ordered my usual, "The Logan" (c) - Tequila, seltzer and a splash of lime juice with a salted rim and some how it tasted different when Brian made it-- it was PERF. Happy hour specials are awesome. Rail drinks are only $6, $5 wine and Drafts from 3:30 to 7pm. For food try a $5 personal pizza. I had the pepperoni and it was super delicious. It started raining and my neighbor and I didn't want to walk home in the rain so of course, we kept ordering! We shared the wings and the most delicious pasta i have had in a while: Cacio e Pepe (Parmesan Cheese Fettuccine) OMG it was amazing.
