I heard about Scarr's from a friend and this place did not disappoint. I ordered the cheese pizza and sicilian pie. I really wanted to try their pepperoni pizza but they said they didn't have it that day. I enjoyed the sicilian pie more but the cheese pizza was still very enjoyable. No signs but the open window of the folks making pizza and the line stretching out the door, even at 3:30 pm on a Friday, let's you know it's Scarr's. Truth be told, I found the place through googling "best pizza lower east side" but the retro, old-diner style pizza front was nowhere to be found. I believe they recently relocated - thank you Google Maps, if not for the misleading old photos, at least the right location - there are no restaurant signs or if there is, the lovely NYC scaffolding is covering it. During the line, which you inevitably will be in, you should quickly decide on which pizza you'd like because the cashier stuffed in the back of the tiny counter with the other sweltering staff is going to want to know quick so they can pop it into the oven to reheat. Yes, the counter display pizza is reheated. However, the display pizza looks freshly made and with the demand and turnover, I wouldn't be surprised if the pizza is made fresh every hour and just toasted 30 seconds for a slight crisp and heat. I debated between the classic or square pepperoni - latter won out. $4 for a great slice - just thick enough, savory & warm marinara, crunchy crust, and salty pepperoni with a tinge of spice. My one disappointment would be the texture and structure of the mozzarella - it didn't really hold the slice very well and the reheating did not do it enough justice. I still found the slice to be great - definitely interested in coming again for a more conventional NY slice. *Technically there is a sign that says no pictures of staff working inside but I had no clue while I was taking a picture of the storefront.* read more

My family and I tried Scarr's and two other of the most highly rated pizza establishments in Manhattan. We had slices at Scarr's and one other place, and we had a pie with two flavors at a third place. The place with the pie I had been to years ago and had a great experience. Hands down the best pizza of the bunch was Scarr's. The vote was unanimous. The quality of the crust was the best and the blending of flavors in the pizza was the best. The pesto vodka was amazing and so was the Hotboi with hot honey. Bravo Scarr's - best pizza I've had in NY and I will recommend you to others. This place is legit! You know you're in for a good time when a pizza joint has a line out the door. And we did have to wait a while for our slices (around 30 min when the line was about 8-10 people deep). But the wait was worth it! We ordered a classic cheese slice and a Sicilian cheese. Delicious! Loved the crunch but chewiness of the dough here. Also the sauce wasn't overly sweet like at other places (I'm looking at you Joe's and 2 Bros). There was also a perfect amount of cheese on each slice as well -- not too much to ruin the integrity of the slice. Each slice is a bit pricy, but it is what it is. My only gripe is that there's only 3 people in the place and 2 of them are working on making the pizzas (other is a manger of some sort). This makes the actual pizza making very slow and it took a long time to get our pizza. Overall, great spot and one of the best slices I've had in the city. read more

It's a solid New York style pizza. Not sure if it's worth the line in the heat thou. There is option to make your online order for the whole pie in advance if you have a big party. That's the only way to skip the line. The honey addition to their topping is interesting. I'm just not a big fan of it but it's certainly different. It was a rush lunch time and we did have to wait for avt 30 mins. They did apologize that the line was slower because they were short staffed. We got pepperoni and the spicy pepperoni with jalapeño. One of them can use a couple more second in the oven. Came out soggy and no one wants soggy pizza. There are some table on the back for the new location. However, no water was being served. I didn't expect to find a good pizza shop I'd never heard of on the Lower (lower) East Side. I lived in Chinatown, however, Scarr's escaped my notice - tucked away on Orchard near E. Broadway, it's hardly noticeable! My daughter in Philly actually brought it to my attention! I'm glad she did, as the pizza was delicious. Probably my fav spot for a slice (over Joe'a, Prince Street). Expect a line at this neighborhood joint. There's a small seating area or you just take it with you. We usually get a plain slice and a pepperoni slice. The reason for a four star review instead of five is that they are not always consistent. When it hits, the crust is crispy with good color and nice soft-chewy texture and is truly amazing. Visited this place as the starting spot of my NYC pizza tour part 2. Initially when reached, I was greeted with a long line which reminded me of my readymade theory of long lines = below average food. I must say, I was right with this one after facing a similar situation at Prince st. It took around 30 mins to get inside but looking at the old pictures, I believe the place is either shifted to next door or they have renovated the place entirely! Anyways the ambience is top notch with seating available inside for the patrons. After a tiring wait, I was finally looking to grab a cheese slice and was met with a staff member/ cashier who was pretty busy taking 2-3 orders at once, which felt like they were a bit understaffed at the moment. The slice, I must proudly say was the worst I had in Manhattan, it has too much tomato sauce and very less cheese while the crust was too chewy and felt like eating a cardboard, the prime reason for this being the staff reheating the pizza instead of serving them fresh from the oven! I felt like a cow at one point and my jaws started to pain! Food wasting is my pet peeve but the crust was so bad that I had to throw away the pizza slice at the end! Wow! This place really lives up to the hype! A Eater YouTube video rec brought me here. And id been wanting to go for years but, you know, the pandemmy just crushed foodie dreams. The slice is less than $5. I know it sounds like a lot but for the hype and for the portion, I'd say it's a steal. I know of lesser places that charge $7 easily. It's the perfect end to the night after drinking and you getting the drunchies. You gotta get a New York slice after drinkies. It's the law... possibly. Ambiance seems to attract lots of similar age and up peeps. Prolly lotsa college-aged, grad students, and middle-agers I saw while on line. The line was a bit long and out the door. I think maybe around 20 ahead of us when we got on line. Honestly I was happy to wait. It's one of the pillars of nyc pizza society. Small price to pay for happiness. For a thin slice of pizza larger than the size of your face, I'd give it all the raves I can. The sauce to mozzarella ratio is chef's kiss. The counter person and the pizza makers constantly in motion, making pizza are amazing dudes. Very quick. Kinda hard to hear once you're inside. The bathroom is in the back and very cramped. There is seating now and is very very cramped but you can sit and grab a beer. But I think for the most part people just ordered and took their pizzas to go. NY has some of the best pizza I've ever tried but what stood out the most to me at Scarr's pizza was their Sicilian pepperoni pizza. Originally we went to Scarrs with the intention to have two cheese slices and one pepperoni slice. The only style pepperoni they had was the Sicilian and while originally we were going to forget the pepperoni and stick to cheese slices, a young lady taking orders changed out mind. She said that she doesn't normally like Sicilian pizza either but she guaranteed it would be the best. She also told us if it wasn't she would pay for that slice. Pretty convincing so we said why not! Let me just say it was the best Sicilian I have ever tasted. It has the perfect crunch to it and the pizza sauce was phenomenal. The cheese pizza was also amazing. It was perfectly cooked with the right amount of cheese. We decided to dine in and got to dip our pizza slices into the hot honey they serve as well. I would have never tried it if it weren't for the same server who hyped up the Sicilian slice. We also shared a Stella as they were offering two brands of beer on tap. Move over Joe's! There's a new place that wins "World's Best PIzza" in my heart. I used to go to Joe's for my NY slice cravings whenever i was in town. To me, it was the epitome of the classic New York pizza. I still love the place and I think it does still set the standard, but Scarr's takes the model of the NY pizza slice and elevates it to be the best version of it. Scarr's has the thin layer balance of cheese, sauce, and crust. The crust is so crispy, but not too thin as to be overwhelmed by the toppings or cheese/sauce. It hovers at the perfect level between cracker and flatbread. It's obvious that the pizza makers really care about the craft and its reflected in the phenomenal food they make. This was definitely one of the best, if not the best, slices of pizza I've ever had. I got a slice of the Hotboi and asked for extra hot honey. Damn it's good. There's a kick, but it's perfect. The line is always out of the door and there's only a thin bench outside for you to eat if you're just ordering a slice, but it's totally worth it. Went to Scarr's for the second time yesterday. We had gone in the summer and I had the best white pie ever. It was bomb. You can tell they used good ingredients, a deft hand, and great execution. Great pie. But I decided to wait before a review. We got a plain slice and a Sicilian with pepperoni. The plain slice is a solid, classic nyc slice. No complaints whatsoever. The square was bomb. Thick, but light and airy with a nice outside crunch. And you can tell they used good pepperoni. Overall I think Scarr's is a great pizzeria and if you live in the neighborhood you are lucky to have them there. Highly recommend if you are in the neighborhood and haven't tried their pizza yet. They had a QR code outside where you can scan the menu and there was a small line when I went. When it was my turn, they don't do pies on the spot. They have scheduled pick ups and the next pick up was gonna be at 8:30pm so I ended up just getting slices. I got the original, sicilian, and pepperoni slice. Out of the three, Sicilian was the best. Good flavor and good crust. The original was okay but I wasn't amazed by it. The pepperoni one was also just okay but the other spicy pepperoni spots are better. Still amazing and one of the best slices in the city. Finally got the regular pepperoni, which is outstanding, especially with some Mike's Hot Honey poured on top. Scarr's Pizza was the second stop of the Pizza Tour, right after Prince Street Pizza as some say this is the best pizza in NYC. I arrived around 2pm on a Saturday and shockingly enough this was my longest wait of the trip so expectations were high. The line was small (about 10 people in front of me), but the pizza joint was also very small with some seating outside and in the back of the joint. It took about 20 minutes for me to get my food, which wasn't bad, but it was kind of slow. I ordered a Pepperoni square and a slice of cheese. Unfortunately, the square slice was bad. The crust was flavorful, chewy, and it was the best part. The sauce to cheese ratio was extremely bad so extremely dry and it needed way more sauce. The pepperoni was good, but it needed more. Overall, it was an extremely dry slice. The cheese slice was much better, but also dry! Good crust, better sauce to cheese ratio, and the cheese was good. There was pretty much zero flop because of how dry the slice was. Overall, the ingredients were good and I think I just had some bad slices. I see why Scarr's has a lot of potential. I saw that they had the slices out on display and threw them into the oven to heat them up, which is standard. However, I have a feeling that they left the slices in the oven for too long so that is why they were extremely dry. Prices were cheaper than Prince Street Pizza at about $5.50/slice. The employees were friendly when I ordered so that was nice. I'm glad that I tried Scarr's Pizza, but unfortunately these slices were the worst of the trip. Still a lot better than most places! An exceptional New York slice, $3.81 or so sans tip. There's a special depth and sweetness to the crust that I don't really get elsewhere. Of course, the slice is thin, crisp, and on the less oily side. There's a good sprinkle of parmesan by default. Twice now I've made a detour off my Chinatown grocery runs to get my fill. I also watched their feature on Eater; maybe my enjoyment is accentuated by knowing much of their flour is milled in-house. It's pretty good. Not bad. But not the best slice in the city like others have said. The crust is a little tougher than that of Joe's Pizza. They also didn't have any of the Hotboi slices even though we got there right when it opened on a Thursday. So I cannot compare it to the Roberta's hot honey pizza. But it's good that Scarr's has options like vegan slices and grandma pies and Sicilian pies in addition to regular pizzas. Popped in here for a slice and glass of wine with my friend as we wanted to try Scarrs for a while. My slice came out super quick but hers took about 20 minutes to come out. Pizza was good. The entire time we were sitting there a guy working there was harassing her. We were sitting at the bar so he was right in front of us trying to talk to her. Talking about her physique and religion. Asking if she works out and Asking if he could bring her home to his mom even though she's a Jew... It was so uncomfortable and we really just wanted to try the pizza and hang out. So I guess if you are a man this is a good place to try, a woman not so much, unless you want to be harassed while eating. Not to mention it was $50 split. Worst $25 I've ever spent.
