Was in Modesto for the weekend. Driving around looking for a place to eat. This looks like a hole in a wall if you drive by. But I decided to give it a try bc there was a line outside. I had the knockout burger and fries. It was delicious! It was juicy and big! The jalapeños, man send a firetruck! The combinations of flavors were great! The young lady with tattoo's and blonde hair was very helpful and nice. She gave me recommendations that were not on the menu outside. I didn't realize there was an inside. Con's The bathroom is around back and sketchy. No light that I could see. And a lot of homeless and druggies around. Food was delicious. read more

My almost 18 year old son and I stopped by,, (actually we went way out of our way to purposefully come here) because I had heard so many good things about the burgers. We were not disappointed! Oh no! We were greatly impressed and I have already sent my photos to family members insisting that everybody needs to make it a point to drop in for a bite. But not just a bite, and not a few bites, but many many bites of a great big burger! These burgers were piled high, slathered with fresh ingredients, and impressive to say the least. The Knockout burger is still the best burger I've ever had, in my 50+ yrs! My guilty pleasure (best heartburn ever!) when I lived in Modesto... 20+ yrs ago! My daughter and I used to share one then, they were sooo big! But, I think I could eat one myself now. I've eaten burgers from Scenic for over sixty years, and always thought they were the best on the planet. They invented the Knockout, which has since been copied by many. When they closed a few years ago, I was heartsick but, a year or so later, much to my delight, they re-opened under new ownership. It was with great trepidation that I ordered my first burger with the new owners in charge, but my angst was completely relieved with the first bite...it was exactly the way they'd always been....unique and delicious, albeit a little bit pricey for my weary and worn wallet. WARNING: If you order a Knockout, you'd better like HOT...the little green chunks of some kind of chili pepper they put on them could be used as a fire-starter which, for me, completely ruins the sandwich, not to mention most of the rest of my day. The solution is simple: use the phrase "No hot chilis, please". Bottom line: if you like a great burger with avocado, bacon and cheese, try a Knockout. If you object to having your palate burst into flames, have them leave the hot peppers in the refrigerator where they belong! read more

I love this place, I've been going here for years and was so disappointed when it had closed briefly. I am so glad that they reopened! I take all my friends there, and people visiting from out of town. I always get people to order the knockout burger because it is SOOO Delicious! Their fries were pretty darn good, but I'm sad about the onion rings; they used to have the beer battered ones that were amazing, but they've since changed them. I also miss the old school cherry pepsi they used to make. Love getting a round one! It's like a veggie burger except it has bacon! I eat two of them cuz to me that's how good they are! First time here but our last. Place wasn't busy but young lady taking our order was rushing us through our order. No smile, no sense of customer service. The KO burger wasnt impressionable either. For $7 i would've expected more, it could've had at least 2 slices of tomatoes instead of 1. It was dry and ready in about 5 minutes which leads me to believe it was already cooked and they just slapped it together. Having dined here for over 25 years, I've watched the food quality go down but they still make a good burger. I wish they would use fresh ground beef rather than frozen patties. Milkshakes and ice cream treats are excellent. Service here has always been excellent for me. They can get very busy and everything is cooked to order so don't expect your order in minutes. I give Scenic Drive In A 5 star rating! Not only because I am an Employee their, but also because I am a HUGE fan of the Knock out burger. I have been going their for as long as I can remember, the food has always been amazing as well as the service the employee's give. I can guarantee you the best burger you will ever eat. My favorite is the Knock out and or the Chicken Texas Knock out, both mouth watering and to die for! I recommend giving us a try if you haven't already. I just left a review for Web's Drive-In and gave it a 4-star rating. For Scenic, however, I can't help but rate it 5-stars!! Most of the reviews (the positive ones, of course) are correct - hands-down the best burger joint in the area!! I gotta say - the Knock-Out is, of course, my preferred choice and although I can certainly handle the "hotness" of the chili peppers, I prefer to scrape them off afterward. It still leaves the flavor and a little spice, but not enough to ruin the experience. :-) The fries are excellent and I believe the milkshakes - unless recently changed - are real ice cream with real ingredients (my wife always gets the Peanut Butter)...at least, it sure tastes that way!! read more

I drive by this place ever day on my way home from work and finally decided to stop. I read up on the history of this place and figured it would be awesome. I was very disappointed to say the least. Burger was frozen at one point for sure and was chewy and fatty with no test. I won't be going here again. read more

Absolutely one of the best cheeseburgers I have ever eaten. The original knockout burger is really good but my personal favorite has to the Texas knockout. It has BBQ sauce, jalapeños,onion rings, and bacon and cheese. It is delicious. Also the onion rings are great here too. Way better than the fries, they are good but those onion rings blow them out of the water. And if you want to go the whole 9 yards, get the knockout fries. Fries with cheese, jalapeños, and bacon. So good. The only downside is that it's next to the cemetery. Kind of creepy. read more

Well first of all, their customer service was really poor. No smile from the waitress that took our order and she defiantly seemed to be in a hurry. Just very short with me and my family, I'd understand if there was a line waiting to order but...we the only ones there. Second, no restroom! Where are you supposed to wash your hands before you eat or at least supply hand sanitizer. The knock out burger was probably a 7/10. My son said he had better at in & out. The burger is like what you would expect to get at a ball park... Frozen patty with the addition of a lot of pepper. It wasn't a bad burger, but it is what it is. Banana shake was yummy. The only complaint is they need to put a little salt on their fries right when they get out of the fries because they are a little plain. BUT that burger WOW! I can't wait to go back.
