This food truck is eye-catching but the bagels are disappointing. They are very small and lack that chewiness i look for. I think its great that this business raises awareness for local charities but, and perhaps I am being skeptical, it seems as though they tout their charitable contributions more than is deserved. This place is a 3.5 stars. Schmear It is way overpriced, although I would have to admit that most places on Penn's campus charge high prices anyway. I wasn't wowed by their Lox, which is one of the most expensive add-ons you can add to your bagel. They offer gluten-free bagels, along with some other varieties such as French Toast, Blueberry, and Sesame. You get to choose your own bagel, add a spread (such as peanut butter or cream cheese), and finally any other ingredients (such as Lox, scallions, or strawberries). Their suggested menus (like the Loxsmith) aren't a bargain at all, so you might as well choose your own ingredients, unless you really prefer their formula. read more

I finally saw a Schmear It truck this past Wednesday and made my way through the windy November weather to get a bagel. This wasn't just any bagel and I had high bagel expectations that were met by Schmear It. I ordered the Philadelphia Roll which I believe included cream cheese, lox, cucumber, wasabi, and soy sauce on a pumpernickel bagel. It's a bit funny I enjoyed this because a Philadelphia sushi roll makes me cringe when I even think about it. They have tons of different combinations and you can even create your own. The staff was also very friendly as well and they sell La Colombe coffee. Definitely worth checking out! read more

We were searching for a good bagel place in the city and came across Schmear on yelp. Being at The Food Trust Broad & Mt. Vernon Farmers' Market location it was an easy walk. Upon being one of the first customers we were greeted by the friendly staff and the owner, Dave. They were very helpful and gave us suggestions of what to get. We ended up getting the Nutty Naner and Stuffed French Toast. The Nutty Naner was peanut butter, Nutella, and bananas. It is recommended on a cinnamon raisin bagel but we opted for the chocolate chip bagel, still delicious! It was the perfect gooey combination of pb, Nutella and bananas. The Stuffed French Toast was amazing. With cream cheese, strawberries, bananas, walnuts, cinnamon and maple syrup, the combination was sweet, yet still tasted light. It was on a French Toast bagel, which made it all the more better. Lastly, we got two iced coffees. The coffee was from Rival Bros Coffee (which is also local) - "Whistle & Cuss cold brew." I traveled from MD to Philly to come to this truck and when I arrived at this truck the service was terrific, such wonderful people! We spoke about foodtrucks for sometime being that I am starting one shortly and they were so insightful and inspiring! Now for the food, unfortunately I eat it too fast so I didn't grab a photo first but let me tell you that the locksmith on a everything bagel is unreal and absolutely delicious! Also the speed is insane in a minute and a half my food was ready! I recommend anyone looking for a good breakfast or lunch or snack to try them out! One of the best things about winter is that there is no line for the food trucks in Love Park! I saw Schmear there on a cold day and decided to try it out. Their bagels are so good! I can be picky sometimes with bagels but I really enjoyed theirs. I tried out the pumpernickel veggie sandwich. There was a generous topping of cream cheese, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers on a perfectly toasted bagel. I love bagels. I was very excited to see this at 30th St. That said... I was disappointed. The bagel was okay. Not bad but not anything special. The veggie cream cheese was actually very good. The reason for the two stars is that for a smallish toasted bagel with veggie cream cheese... I paid 5.50. I can get the same bagel for less than half the price at any Dunking Donuts... And their bagels are just as good. I would def pay 5.50 for an excellent bagel and cream cheese... This just wasn't it. Not worth the money and definitely doesn't live up to the hype. I got the lox bagel and it was really disappointing! There was no salmon at all - just a lot of cream. It was also very expensive. I think it came up to almost $7 which would have been fine if there was salmon but there wasn't. Would not recommend this place. If you want a simple breakfast bagel just go to hubbub. This gets 3.5 stars, but I'll round it to 4. I purchased a toasted whole grain bagel with lox, tomatoes, and cream cheese. I got a warm, bready bagel with a crisp exterior. The cream cheese was a bit too much for me, and the chopped tomato and lox portions were disappointing given the price-$6. It's a pity I couldn't taste the tomatoes or lox, but the ingredients did enhance the flavor of the cream cheese. Definitely go at least once, but it's a bit of a splurge to be an everyday habit. Tip: If you're ordering one of the specialty bagels like the loxsmith, order it custom made instead with similar ingredients- it'll save you a bit, around $1. read more

One of my favorite go-to breakfast/lunch options. The bagels are good, but the real highlights are the custom schmears. Don't come here if you hate cream cheese. If you love cream cheese, you will love their schmears. They offer a perfect, generous ratio of cream cheese to top your bagel, and if you are lucky enough to have extra, it's phenomenal by the spoonful of spread on crackers. They have great options for sweet or savory! I like to get the veggie delight on a toasted whole wheat everything bagel or the stuffed French toast if I'm in a sweet mood. Bagel sandwiches are generally in the $5-7 range, and they are well worth it with the amount of toppings mixed into the schmear. Gluten free bagels are available! Every single Thursday I get the same bagel from the truck outside 30th st station, and two weeks ago I was accidentally given the wrong bagel. Regardless of serving literally hundreds of customers, I walked up today and immediately am met with "I gave you the wrong bagel two weeks ago...this one's on me!" That made my day! I had the Locksmith and this was the worst lox bagel I've ever had. It was just salty cream cheese on a dry bagel. Management should set up a field trip to New York and the staff learn how to make a real lox bagel. The staff was inexperienced and when I asked for the green smoothie the gentlemen working there just pulled it out of the refrigerator, which I suspected a previous customer had denied given how expensive it was ($6.00). Don't be deceived by their flashy hip website. The food is actually deplorable. I should have just gone to Dunkin Donuts just a few doors down. I wouldn't be surprised if this place closes down in the next 3 months and they replace it with another Dunkin Donuts just for funzies. Stay away from this place if at all possible. read more

I met up with Dave this morning. I wanted to be bad, but not that bad (it is the holidays!!!) I got a wholewheat bagel, toasted to perfection with vegan CC and cut-up lox. So after all of the hype that my co-workers gave Schmear It, I finally had the chance to experience it for myself. I loved the look of the truck and the service. I'm assuming it was the owner of the truck who was behind the register, and he was awesome! Very personable and asked what my weekend plans were. He's enough of a reason to want to support this truck. He knew a lot of the names and orders of a lot of the regular customers and that means a lot to me. I LOVED that Schmear It was supporting Philabundance, one of my favorite organizations in the city. I ordered the Iced Coffee with brown sugar syrup (YUM!) and the Stuffed French Toast bagel. I was pretty disappointed with the bagel. It was just, meh. I feel like if I hadn't had such high expectations from all of the hype it's gotten from my coworkers, I would have been satisfied but I was definitely expecting much more. I will certainly go back to Shmear It and try a savory option and hopefully come back with an updated, higher review. read more

It's all about the schmear here, the name says it all. It is a good idea to have your choice of many vegetables to mix in and make your own unique cream cheese. On the other hand, the bagels are mediocre at best. Seems like they are store-bought. No crunch, not even when they are toasted, and I could probably count the number of seeds and things on the everything bagels. for philly these bagels are pretty awesome. they have a bunch of different schmear options and you can make your own for $0.50/ingredient. my go to is the everything bagel toasted with scallion cream cheese - pretty great way to start the morning. and they server la colombe coffee which is also a pretty great way to start the morning. they're outside the drexel law school on thursdays and usually run out of bagels by noon. read more

Awesome bagel spot - yes this is my first yelp review but this was worth it. I got the "Monster Miler" on a Thursday morning at Market between 33rd and 34th - peanut butter, bananas, and granola on a blueberry bagel. I was a bit skeptical about granola on a bagel, but wow this was awesome. Well toasted, great combination of tastes, and it all held together throughout the eating process.
