I found this place on TripAdvisor and cross referenced it on Yelp. This was our breakfast stop form Buffalo To Chicago that morning. Its a little off way from the freeway but very much worth it. The place is small so seating is very limited, but the turn over is fairly quick. Standard diner fair but that's what you need sometimes. Something familiar and you know it will always be good.. I got the Western Omelet which was great tasting. I was also reading that you have to get a slice of Pie for there, but we were so stuffed from breakfast that we got the pies to go. I got the Chocolate Peanut butter and my friend got the strawberry rhubarb. We ate it the following evening and man, those pies were so good! I almost wanted to drive to Toledo and buy a whole pie from them. It was also great to see Doug who I believe owns and runs the place, still bussing tables, answering the phones, cashing people out etc. Its rare to see that now a days with businesses. All in all, when I'm traveling towards that direction, I will try my best to hit up this place for breakfast and make sure to get a WHOLE pie and not just a slice his time around. read more

Had a craving for a chef salad tonight and wanted to do curbside pick-up so I ordered from Schmuckers. I was not disappointed! This was a BIG salad. I added on a second meat choice (it normally comes with one meat choice). Enough for two meals. What I liked best is that they use romaine lettuce versus iceberg. Dessert is coconut cream pie, because well, Schmuckers has the best pie! You can't go wrong at this place! read more

Been to this location several times. Wait staff has been rude in the past, but today was last straw. Had a party of six. Four were present. They wouldn't seat us in a nearly empty restaurant (9 am on a Wednesday). That's ok. We stood by the door waiting on the rest of our group. As another customer came thru the door we moved to the walls next to the door so as not to block entry. Waitress approached again and snapped at us to WAIT BY THE DOOR. There was nobody seated anywhere near where we were waiting. Food is above average. Prices are great. Wait staff is awful. Taking our business elsewhere. read more

I've been coming to schmuckers since I was a young kid. My dad would get off work from Jeep and we'd go grab some pie. It's a comfort food date night place for me and the wife. The pies are homemade and are the best I've ever had. Good food otherwise, but I can't get enough of their pie and coffee. Old time diner that still uses an old rotary phone booth for calls. Millennials beware, you won't know how to use the phone. Lived out of State for 1 year, and when I came home nothing made me feel home like going to Schmuckers. Highly recommended. Cons: it can be extremely busy on weekends. Be prepared to wait unless you go in the later evening, and even then it's fairly packed. Hey, it's packed for a reason. What do you want? read more

If they ever close the doors I will be heartbroken. This place is nostalgia. I don't want it ever to change. This is home cooking. Where you know on this day the special will be turkey and on that day roast beef. When ever I am feeling really run down we come for dinner here. Driving through Ohio while road tripping out east, we happened upon this gem of a diner. In desperate need of a quaint spot to fill our tummies and stretch our legs, Schmucker's was just right. We ordered: -ham and cheese omelet -bacon -sunny up eggs with ham -biscuit -wheat toast -cheeseburger with fries -club sandwich with fries (basically four sandwiches stacked atop each other) -pecan pie (sweet, nutty, syrupy goodness) When a place has been around since 1948, you know they've got something special. While the breakfast and diner fare we experienced was good, it was the slice of pecan pie that made Schmucker's really memorable. read more

Schmucker's is the diner that other diners dream of being. Whenever I'm back in my hometown, I stop by, usually multiple times. I used to stop by here for late night coffee and pie at least every week, and breakfast several times a month. That's how good the food is and how welcoming the environment is. In this beautiful, classically-designed diner, breakfast is served all day and made-from-scratch is the rule, not the exception. I was proud to take my New England relatives here most recently, and they loved it as much as I did. The "Sunrise Special Plus" I ordered (an egg, bacon, home fries, and a biscuit with sausage gravy) is a perfectly-sized meal for a late breakfast. The egg was exactly as I ordered it (over medium), the bacon crispy, and the biscuit smothered in homemade gravy, complete with chunks of sausage. Meanwhile, my uncle and I agree that they are the best part of the breakfast here. They're sliced thin and fried up on the grill, studded with onions that add wonderfully to the flavor. Exactly the salty goodness you want at breakfast. I also highly endorse the meatloaf here (big, thick slices, very hearty), but that's another story for another review. Of special note here is pie. Schumucker's makes upwards of 30 pies fresh every day. I usually get the coconut cream, which is wonderfully thick, yet light and fluffy, and full of rich coconut. I can also highly recommend the caramel-apple-walnut, the butterscotch (a.k.a. "scutterbotch"), and the vanilla- and chocolate-peanut-butter pies. Oh yeah, pecan and blueberry are quite good, too. And if you see raspberry cream, it's to die for. Slices are cheap ($3-$4), especially considering that they're several inches high and each slice is a sixth of a full-sized pie. They also sell whole pies. The kitchen crew have service down to a science, cracking eggs at light speed and remembering every order specification, no matter how small. Super-friendly, too. I haven't been a regular in years, since I moved to Portland, but several of them still recognize me and chat after all these years. Schmucker's is a real gem. A place whose food is cheap, filling, and delicious, and whose atmosphere exemplifies what a good diner can be. I would recommend it to anyone. I wish there were more places like Schmucker's in the world. read more

Really good pies as everyone else had commented on. We had the apple crumble pie a la mode which was too much goodness on one plate. I wish the boyfriend and I had come for breakfast instead as the dinner selection didn't exactly blow our minds. But the pie definitely made up for it. The place is an authentic, small town America diner with a primarily blue-collar clientele. It looked so legitimate that it almost felt like we were walking onto a movie set. Lots of good food for a really affordable price. My girlfriend and I shared a club sandwich, and the one meal was totally enough for two people. We also shared the chocolate and peanut butter pie, and it was amazing! No wonder it's their most popular. The inside is very charming, a real old diner, instead of just trying to look like one. My eggs were under and the potatoes were poor but I couldn't tell anybody because she never came back. I was able to flag another waitress down to get a refill on my coffee and the bill. Living in San Diego now but met family in Toledo for good ole home cooking and wonderful pie. The coconut cream is arguably the best in the world...hell I'm gonna say galaxy. Amazing Pie!!! The chili tastes fresh and has just enough spice to be called chili. This place is always busy because the food is simply made and tasty! The pie is killer! I love diners and this place has been here 70 years and counting for a reason. Great atmosphere, great food, and great service. Not sure how much has changed over the years but when I walked in I felt like I was visiting Bud's Diner with my grandparents. The decor is a true throwback to the way we use to be. It is like there is a slice of Americana in there from each decade they have been around. The place was very clean even if it was a little worn around the edges. Sitting at the bar I was constantly checked up on and got a little chit chat. I felt like I was sitting on a perch as I was able to see the employees interacting with all of their customers. While they knew some of them by name they were just as friendly to those they never met. I got the sausage sandwich and it was a tasty piece of meat with onions, lettuce, and tomato on a slightly toasted bun. The fresh cut fries that came on the side were amazing. There were a lot of things I would have liked to try but for lunch a man can only do so much. Will definitely make sure to stop here the next time I am working in Toldeo and would recommend this fine diner to anyone who lives in the Glass City, is visiting friends and family, or just passing through. read more

Tonight was our first night here and we will never come back. The stares and scowls we received from the staff upon walking in were shocking. We did not know that the entire party needed to be present before being seated so we stood and waited for the rest of our party to arrive...this seemed to be the wrong thing to do based on the faces of the staff, yet no one explained anything to us. Standing there gave me a chance to look around and notice how dirty the floor was and gave me a chance to try and convince my family to leave (we were there for my father in law's birthday and he wanted a piece of pie), but to no avail. The Birthday Boy (elderly man) has limited foods that he can eat so he tried to order breakfast only to find out they don't serve that all day. He then just ordered mashed potatoes and coleslaw as sides. Everyone else ordered meals (except me - I was grossed out by the floor) and dessert. They have a birthday special posted that says you get a free piece of pie on your birthday when $7.00 is spent, but when the bill came, they wouldn't honor that because the Birthday Boy only ate two sides. Really?? The staff seemed far more focused on following their rules (minus any cleaning rules) than customer service. Wow. read more

Stopped in for a late dinner and was pleasantly surprised! Our waitress was quick to serve us and bring our food, which was yummy! Had a classic burger and could have eaten the fries all day. The portions were generous, I was glad I split my meal. Their home fries looked delicious as well, I'll have to try them next time. I loved the classic diner feel sitting in a booth, that's hard to find these days especially with good food. I greatly appreciated how they were clearly following social distancing guidelines and sanitizing, along with plastic dividers between booths, employees wearing masks, requiring customers to wear masks, and limiting capacity. That gives people like myself who have extreme anxiety with COVID-19 ease of mind to know they are cleaning and doing everything possible to service customers while keeping them safe. The other day was National Pi Day and I was busy plotting a day of sweet and savory pie. Upon research, I found Schmucker's. I ask my Dad, who's been living in Toledo all his life, if he's been there. And of course he has! He goes on to tell me that he has had many of great meals there. I told him it was National Pi Day and ask what he thought about the pies. He nods and says, "Yes, their pies are great!" He also tells me that the pies were homemade right there in the restaurant. Cool! His favorite is the Coconut Cream Pie. Noted.... So I go on with my day and just so happen to be down the street from Schucker's. I decided to go pick up a slice of pie for my awesome dad and one for myself. I pull up to the cutest retro diner. I walk in and it has a very retro feel inside as well. So cute! It's pretty crowded, but people don't seem to mind. There were a few tables in the middle of the diner and some booths along one wall. On the other side was seating at a long lunch counter. Behind the counter was the cooking area and the PIE! Above the pie was a crazy list of pies that were available. Over 20 pies! The take-out line was pretty long, so I had time to decide which one I wanted. This place was busy! I noticed several boxes of whole pies being ordered and walking out of the door. The line never let up. People definitely love this place and certainly feel that the food is worth the wait. I couldn't wait to experience what everyone apparently already knows. I ordered a slice of Coconut Cream Pie for my Dad and Key Lime Pie for myself. When I got home, I presented to pie to my Dad. I got a huge smile and a hug! I took my Key Lime Pie out and took a bite. Mmmmmmmm. I should have bought a whole pie!!! So what I loved about the pie was that it wasn't overwhelming sweet, the Key Lime flavor was there, and the crust was tasty. I loved this whole pie situation! Later that day I tasted my dad's Coconut Pie and it too was delicious. I will definitely be returning to Schmucker's to try the rest of the pies. Next time I'll also sit and have a meal. read more

It's a dump of a building. It's clean though. People super friendly! Food is great! Portions are huge. Great home style cooking!
