This is my first Yelp review, and it really bothers me to have to write something negative. We ordered a large Prom King pizza and a meat antipasto to be delivered from Schoolhouse Pizza on Saturday, 7/12. This was not our first order from them and have enjoyed our orders in the past. We specifically asked for the pizza to be cooked well done in the special instructions section of the GrubHub website as we like our pizza with a crisp crust. We were very surprised to see the delivery driver show up approximately 25 minutes later (usually it takes about an hour, which is fine if you get our order correct). Not only was the pizza not cooked as we asked, it was barely warm and under-cooked. The crust was soggy and flaccid and the cheese was barely melted. I worked at many a restaurant throughout college and graduate school so I know anyone can have an off-night, and I have never written a bad online review of anything. But what really annoyed me is when I complained via the GrubHub website and got the following response: "We spoke with the restaurant and they unfortunately weren't willing to offer any refund on the order. I spoke with the person who made your pizza and they informed me that if they cooked it any longer, it would be burnt, and nobody wants burnt pizza. As far as the cheese goes, they told me that since there are so many toppings on this pizza, some toppings may not get cooked the same way as others." If you weren't willing to cook my pizza to order then you should have called me to tell me so I didn't waste my time or money. Cannot understand why this place DOESN'T have a full five stars. In truth, they aren't my favorite pizza. But their salads, are A-mazing. I actually crave them and start salivating when I think about them. Also the paninis, listed under electives are sooooo sooo good. Get the bacon blues. Or the Drama Queen. Or the Manifesto. What ever order them all. Everything is FRESH. Quincy seems to have a love affair with grease in all their food which I think has made some reflect poorly on Schoolhouse because you won't find that here. What you'll find is delicious, complex flavors that you would'nt think would blow your mind till you take a bite. On a side note, been in for lunch a few times and the owner is a genuinely nice guy. How many restaurant owners can you really say that about? He brought a little dancing Elmo over to entertain my one year old daughter while I ate and chatted me about his daughter about the same age. I consider myself a pizza connoisseur, so you can trust me when I say that this is the best pizza I have ever tasted. It's New York style and has a nice thick crust with plenty of bubbles. Great sauces and the dough balls are a must try (for $4, how can you not). Subs are great too. He'll put anything on a pizza and their ingredient list is huge. If they don't list something, you can even ask for it and he'll make it for you. The guy just loves what he does. There's always a pizza of the day for more adventurous people. I would give Schoolhouse more stars, but they need to read their reviews here and improve a couple things, then I'll come back and adjust my review and I'll visit them more frequently. First off, the food is terrific, its better than anything (Italian) on Hancock and School... even better than Alfredo's -- which is really not even in the same league. But Schoolhouse, as much as I like the food, gets 3 stars right now for two main reasons, price and overall kitchen decorum. I'll explain. The staff MUST wear gloves. Right now, none of them do. They lose a star for that -- I'm a frequent patron, and this is something that has kept me from going there in recent months. I'm surprised they have not been cited by the Quincy health department on this one, I've seen a couple occasions where the owner was making the pizza bare handed, then emptied the trash barrel then placed chicken (bare handed) in a skillet, then walked back over and made pizza...bare handed. Not good folks, that's going to make someone sick. The prices are far to high. To be honest, as good as the food is, and as good as the staff is with the service. The price is not worth it, this is the MAIN reason I've cut down my visits. Budget wise, a lunch will run you $10, easily. Add a drink, you're looking at $12 dollars. Here's a good example. The Salad 101, with Chicken is $7 add $2 for grilled chicken and its $9.00. That's a LOT of money for lettuce, walnuts, cranberry's, Gorgonzola and dressing. $9.00, I'll say that again. This is an excellent salad, but its in a small portion and $9.00 is hard to justify it. Their sandwiches are excellent. But again, FAR TOO EXPENSIVE. For example, most sandwiches run $7 or $8. Although that's reasonable from the notion of ingredients and quality, the portions are TINY. You're basically getting a sandwich size (i.e. Normal Sandwich bread) portion for the money, and if you think about it, you can have a larger sub at Brothers a block away (not as good) for $5.99). In fact, the Super Beef at Brothers is $6.50 and that sandwich is HUGE and served on an over sized onion roll, not only is that a better deal, the quality is on par with SchoolHouse. Suggestion: Go with a traditional sub-roll and offer a couple different sandwiches (toasted) that are "budget" ones under $7. Something like meatball, Italian etc. This will open up the menu a little and not break someones budget. The pizza is "good", not great. But again far too expensive. If you get two large pies with more than one topping, it'll run you $18 per pizza, its not uncommon for three pizzes to run you $45 - $50. That's a lot of money for pizza, and the pizza is good. But I would argue that its not as good as Gennarro's and Gennarro's is far less expensive. There are some "deals", the Lasagna and Baked Ziti is OK, and its $6 for a large portion, something you can buy quick and bring back and microwave... thats probably the best deal in the place, but I prefer the Baked Ziti because I find the Lasagna to be overly "saucey" and not cheesy enough... Overall a good place, if they made some tweaks, easily a 4 - 5 star place. read more

I'm torn on this one. I like the idea of fresh, natural ingredients but my experiences with them have been very average to sub-par. After each of my 3 experiences with them I have wished that I went to one of my go-to places instead. Last night I paid $30.00 for a large veggie pizza, garlic knots and a small salad which, as far as I could see, nothing but some greens with a grilled pear on it. I couldn't even lift any of the slices out of the box. Even putting my plate under the slice and trying to slide it onto the plate proved futile. They just broke apart/toppings slid off. I enjoy lifting a slice up and eating it as opposed to eating it with a fork. The garlic knots were tasty. My g/f got the salad. What can I say? It's salad with a grilled pear on it. Perhaps this just isn't the style of pizza for me. My favorites around the general vicinity of where I live are 1. Nicks, 2. Quincy Food Club, 3, Gennaro's. Well, first time here. We were really hungry and In Quincy so we pulled up yelp. This place was close and had four stars with a lot of reviews. Also, looking for something priced right. I didn't feel like waiting for a whole pizza so I got a slice of cheese and a cheesesteak with onions. The slice was good not great. The cheesesteak was ok not good. It was that really shredded steak and not much of it with a huge amount of bread. The bread was quality, but I'm really not big on getting filled up on bread. My girlfriend got the Drama Queen, which is fresh mozzarella, tomato, arugula, on foccia bread. She gives the sandwich 4 stars. Not only is the product amazing here but the people are too. I went with Schoolhouse for my husband's recent catered surprise party-were in North Quincy and couldn't be happier. They delivered right before guests arrived. Very busy owner, Chris, always took his time with me during my ordering phone calls, answered every question, helped me select good choices, and assured me that if we ran out, he would whip up some pies and run them over in case extra guests showed up! Friendly and genuine, he really wanted our party to be great and he was proud of his product. I chose this place because I knew it would win with guests, since it won us over when we moved to Quincy. We were right, everyone loved it. The pasta, the salad, the sandwiches were excellent. For Pizza, Schoolhouse is also BY FAR...BY FAR the best pizza you can get in Quincy and I'm guessing South shore. I started to have a very bad experience with this place, but it was quickly turned around by the owner. I went through their online ordering system, which was adequate. About an hour later, i still don't have my food. Apparently the delivery driver was off that day. So the owner himself had to deliver, have came back with some free cookies and gave an apology and did something to make it right. While i was initially upset, it was turned into a positive. Ok onto the food. I think the pizza is a cut above the rest here in Quincy. Similar to Upper Crust in Boston. I don't think you can go wrong with any of their pizzas. I've been told to try the subs there from friends, they say they are great. Though i haven't had the chance yet. You can tell they use quality ingredients and everything is made fresh. I was going to try out that new pizza joint (Angelo's Coal Fire Pizza) two doors down but the wait was over 30-minutes for takeout (which the host wasn't confident in the estimated time). I'm glad that this all happened so that I can appreciate better pizza, service and speed of service at School House Pizza. I tried several pizzas here and can't wait for my next visit! Danny The Mailman as recommended was my favorite! I got three pies in 15-minutes and made right in front of us. I have probably tried pizza from every pizza joint in Quincy. I must say that Schoolhouse Pizza is one of the (if not the) best pizzeria in all of Quincy. Besides the pizza the other offerings on their menu are not only very inventive but excellent as well. Price wise...it is just a tad on the high side but well worth it. The one downside is parking. Most spots nearby are taken in the daytime but it is worth the short walk you may need to take. read more

Their menu is pretty substantial in terms of the pizza toppings that they offer and they have fabulous appetizers and sides. We always get a small pizza and side of garlic knots, which is more than enough food for 2 people for dinner. And I can put down a good amount of food. I wish they delivered to our house, but we're out of their delivery range (only in Quincy). I also wish that they weren't so expensive, but I guess there's a price to pay for quality ingredients. When the owner of Schoolhouse Pizza noticed my review (not long after I put it up, might I add), he emailed me to offer me a second try on the lasagna for free. Have to add another star because I went to try the lasagna and my boyfriend came along and ordered a pizza. The pizza was absolutely delicious!! Can't, unfortunately, add the last star -- even when it was heated up all the way, I still didn't really like the lasagna. Too much sauce made it too watered down and salty. I just moved to the area and after trying many pizza places, I have come to the conclusion Schoolhouse is the best for its pizza. The cost for pizzas is fair, and it tastes great. My only gripes, the delivery is slow and leaves the pizza warm. Not bad, but I prefer hot pizza. So a half star lost there. The other problem is the cost for appetizers. I just don't think they are worth the $8-$10 for what you get. Most of it is pre-made frozen fried food, which is feel is over priced for the amount you get. So another half star lost there. Tonight we ordered, among other delicious items, the Chicken Strips. We asked for BBQ sauce, but when we got our delivery, the sauce with the chicken did not look like BBQ. Always an adventurist, I stuck a chicken strip into the Mystery Sauce and Holy Awesomeness. I used to love Schoolhouse. I was so sad when they closed awhile back and so so happy when they reopened. For awhile, it seemed like the old Schoolhouse was back. Recently, though, not so much. My husband and I tried Schoolhouse a few times for pasta (at least 3 times) before I just gave up. Each time, something was wrong. One time, nothing was salted. The second and third time, there was barely any sauce, and everything was flavorless. Sadness!! The doughknots are still very good, though, so I will give them that. I miss the old Schoolhouse, and I'm sure that I will give them another try in a month or so to see if they've gotten better. I'll start with the good- My boyfriend ordered the chicken cordon blue calzone and absolutely loved it. We also got the loaded dough knots, which were delicious! Especially the garlicky oil sauce at the bottom, Yum! Now the not so good- Delivery time! We were told 45 minutes, and our food did not arrive for over an hour. Not too too bad, but we were starving! MAC&CHEESE- By far the biggest disappointment of my day. I'm a girl who loves her mac and this was just not up to par. The first thing I noticed was the rather small portion size. The second thing I noticed was the lack of "garlicky breadcrumbs" that the online menu promised and which were also a major selling point for me! I don't think I have ever been so happy to see the "open" sign on a pizza place as I was a few months ago walking by Schoolhouse. Back in the winter, one day they were open, and (literally) the next day they weren't. And I shed one (cholesterol filled) tear. Then, as another reviewer perfectly put it, it rose back from the ashes of Quincy Center like a freaking Phoenix. Thankfully, the quality, quantity, and uniqueness of the menu is almost unchanged and truly fantastic all around. Schoolhouse is called a pizza place but, really, I think their pasta shines the brightest. With a great selection of the types of pasta to choose from and seemingly endless customization options, you really do get a personalized dish. And there is almost always leftovers. One evening, I was feeling particularly lazy, and wanted delivery. Because there is a $15 delivery minimum, I added garlic knots to my order on a whim. Holy Cannoli! The ACTUAL most delicious garlic knots I have ever had. The size and freshness of the knot paired with the generous garlic it is doused with make these THE comfort food appetizer for pasta. The only reason Schoolhouse gets 4 stars and not 5 is because (as of I think 2 weeks ago), they are decreasing their pasta selection, both in the dishes available and the types of pasta you can choose from with them. Still just as good as it was years ago. The food is a little over priced hence my subtraction of a star but that is my only complaint. Everything seems to be made fresh and I appreciate that they have a varied menu that separates them from the same old sub/ pizza shop. I recently tried a pasta dish which I felt was a little risky. The food here is so fresh and homemade. No cookie-cutter pizzas or food you feel like you've tasted a hundred times. Their dough-knots (aka Garlic knots) are AMAZING. I always miss garlic knots when I leave NY but Schoolhouse has the best knots I've ever tasted in my life. We've tried the garlic and the loaded. Both are awesome. Pizza is always good, it's fresh and delicious. The ones with sauce make me a little acid-refluxy (probably from the fresh tomato sauce) but still yummy and the BBQ Chicken pizza is AWWWESOME. Salads are also top-notch. Nothing about this place is like your typical pizza place, I always find myself comparing other places to Schoohouse now when I'm not in the area and have to eat at those "other" places ;) read more

After a long day at work and then another long process of doing my taxes, I was famished. I was thinking about Schoolhouse since my colleague actually ordered from them for lunch. Schoolhouse was the place I wanted to try. I decided to get the prom king pizza since I'm such a carnivore. When I got home, the presentation of the pizza was really nice and the meats were plentiful which is what I like. When I bit into my first slice, it was very delicious. Light, airy and crisp and packed with flavor. It wasn't dry or anything and the dough was chewy and perfect. I have bin eating here since the doors opened. I have tried everything on the menu and have not had a bad experience. The owner and his chef, and I do call them chefs because they create your meal not just heat it up and if it takes an extra 10 min to get it that's well worth the wait. Came here on a Friday night for some fat kid food! Got an order of the dough knots because the reviews spoke so highly of them, a small pepperoni pizza because that's my favorite, and a can of coke! First, the dough knots are awful! I am not sure why people think they are so great! I know they are just dough, but why pay extra when you can just eat your crust and it taste the exact same. Actually the crust is better than the dough knots. Waste of money. The pizza, however, was very enjoyable! Perfect crust and I loved it! In an adventure to find new 'za places, we ended up at Schoolhouse, as per the glowing recommendation of Ye Olde Yelp. I was not disappointed. I'm all about crust - if a pizza has mediocre crust, then the pizza is a failure. Let's be honest, toppings aren't that difficult to prepare. You chop veggies, maybe get a little marinade on the meats, get a lil creative with partnering X with Y. Schoolhouse's crust is delicious - perfectly cooked, crispy yet soft. None of that overloaded corn meal crap dust that the majority of pizza places rely upon. We had the "spring break" - ham, bacon, pineapple and hot sauce. It was delicious, not too spicy-hot. I will try the baked Caesar pizza next - grilled chicken pizza with Caesar salad sprinkled on after baking.
