Ice Cream Concha
Devin M.

8.3/10 We ordered the Ice Cream Concha and paired it with Ube Ice Cream and Walnuts. It was a good dessert and a pairing I had never tried before. The ube ice cream was the highlight, smooth, flavorful, and not overly sweet. It really hit the spot and had a nice creamy texture. The walnuts added a good crunch and some extra texture to the dessert, though the pairing felt a little awkward at times. The concha itself was good and better than many I've had before. It wasn't overly dry, and they warmed it up which helped a lot. That said, conchas tend to be naturally a bit dry and crumbly, so that texture is somewhat unavoidable. Since you can customize the pairing yourself, it's possible we just didn't choose the most complementary combination. Service was amazing, the staff was very friendly and even let us sample flavors, which was a nice touch. The ambiance was good overall with a nice look to the place and cool decor. It did feel like it was starting to look a little worn or slightly dirty in spots, though they also just recently opened so it may just need some upkeep.

Not quite 4 stars for me. Pretty solid ice cream. I enjoyed their Pralines and Cream.

The building is remarkable! So beautiful, so clean, and has the perfect esthetic! The moment we walked in, we were greeted with energetic smiles and a welcome! The customer service was top tier! I cannot have sugar, and they explained their sugar free options, and when I tell you it is so good!!!!!!!!!!! I am not even kidding! My husband said his Oreo cookies waffle cone was delicious as well! I got a cup and was able to add toppings!! We will be back, and hopefully they'll have their sugar free butter pecan by then!!

Scoops is SO fun. We came for the famous cotton candy burrito and it was every bit as wild as it sounds -- three scoops of Marianne's ice cream, two toppings, plus another topping of your choice, all wrapped up in fluffy cotton candy. Total sugar overload, but in the best way possible. Shoutout to the guy working when we went because he was putting in WORK carefully wrapping the burrito so it wouldn't fall apart and making sure it looked good. You can tell he really puts effort into it. Messy, over-the-top, and such a fun dessert experience -- would 100% go back!

Better than the tourist traps on Alvarado Street! Friendly folks, warm and welcoming decor, and delicious ice cream choices - especially the combo choices! I mean, what human with a sweet tooth can resist a huge cotton-candy burrito with ice cream inside? Slightly out of the way, but totally worth the hunt!!!

Finally this place has opened! The place looks bright and pretty, and spacious! They serve Marianne's ice cream. We enjoyed a scoop each of butter pecan and sales caramel. The person behind the counter was pleasant and hardworking. We'll be back for sure.

Second time customer Second 5 star review. Why, Because Scoops is the BEST. Tried 2 new flavors, Banana Nut which is my new favorite and a Marble Black Raspberry which was great, Very Berryful.... Staff once again were knowledgeable and friendly. I hate to say it but this places just jumped Revival Ice Cream shop as Scoops ice cream in my opinion has more flavor and way larger portions. You always leave with a full belly and a smile on your face.... No REGERTS....

Had the concha ice cream sandwich with 1020 ice cream for $7.95. It was delicious, concha was warm and fresh, 1020 ice cream was fabulous and tasted so fresh. Had them add toasted marshmallow to it as well. The menu has some fantastic items that I need to go back to try. Got a container of earth cotton candy for $5 for my grandkids. Staff were very helpful and friendly. There was plenty of seating and it was very inviting with lots of cool ice cream decorations. Lots of parking in the lot in back. Definitely recommend stopping by for a sweet treat!

Omg you're joking!!! This was totally worth the 20ish minute wait in line! Unfortunately they ran out of one of the special flavors by the time I was able to order, so I ordered the caramel ice cream instead and holy moly it was so yummy! But the best part was the heaping scoop of marshmallow fluff I went last night and am still dreaming of it. The workers were very kinda to me as well! So glad I chose this place over any other ice cream shop in town.

A welcoming place full of tasty treats!!

So happy to have a bright and friendly ice cream shop in downtown Monterey that carries the incomparable Marianne's ice creams! We will make this our ice cream spot for sure.

Service was very good! The ice cream was a good mix of vanilla black berry and tootsie roll in the middle The vibes were very cute- I got a kid's scoop in my photo

This is def THE place to get a sweet treat in Monterey!! The interior is so cute and aesthetic with the ice cream theme & pink everywhere. Their menu is soo creative & not only does everything look so cute, it's also actually soo tasty (I feel like usually it's one or the other but not here)!! The prices are soo reasonable too. I've tried a bunch of stuff and my faves are the smores ice cream, hot cocoa in a concha bowl, and cotton candy ice cream burrito. Their stuff is all very shareable too since you get so much food. Also the staff is so so nice!!

Thankfully it's a cute street with cute lights so it was a vibe. Sadly, they don't allow taste testing of flavors but they said that they would replace your order if you don't like what you ordered. Still, it would be nice to be able to test it, maybe limit it to 2-3 flavors per person? I really wouldn't want to get back in line. The flavors I got to try were quite good. The Bees knees is award winning, so we felt like we had to get that but it was very underwhelming. While in line they were playing a video showing how they made their ice cream from scratch, and there was this crunchy dessert they broke into smaller pieces and mixed in with this ice cream, but I could not taste it. Plus the honey was so subtle. It felt more like a vanilla ice cream for the majority of the time. It still is a nice clean light flavor, but it would have been nice to pull the honey flavor forward a bit more. We also tried the eucalyptus mint chip which also had a light crisp flavor, mint was not too overpowering and the eucalyptus scent hit your nose first before you finish with the cooling mint. Exactly as advertised. Good if you like this combo of scent and flavor. My mom got the cold brew coffee and wow was that really good. If you are a coffee lover, you will enjoy it. Not too bitter, very balanced. My sister, sister's husband and kids also got ice cream, but I can't recall which flavors. They seemed to really enjoy it so all in all, the whole family loved this ice cream night. Overall, very pleased with quality and service. Would come back and try again.

The way it was said immediately made me feel uncomfortable, like I was somehow doing something wrong. Their tone changed after that and became much friendlier, which honestly made the interaction feel even more awkward. My husband ended up ordering pastries, including a chocolate croissant for me, and both the latte and croissant were good. Sometimes the experience matters just as much as the food. Some people where just asked their names and their names were called when their order was ready. Unfortunately, the person taking my order forgot to enter it into the computer system until I asked if my buzzer thing was working because it had taken an awfully long time to get a simple small shake. If you are able to find a seat outside at the rear of the store overlooking Monterey Bay the view is awesome, but there is not much of a view from inside seating nor the courtyard seating in the front of the store. They need an assigned person to patrol both inside and outside eating and seating areas since there is such a high volume of customers, the eating and seating surfaces need to be better cleaned. The shake was OK, nothing spectacular and it was less ice cream than milky (I saw them adding liquid to the ice cream machine just before my order was prepared so maybe it had not had enough time to freeze properly). As with most Cannery Row businesses there is no parking close by. This business does not seem to have any bathroom facilities nor anywhere for parents to wash off the sticky sweet treats from the hands and faces of their kids.

Their ice cream has more of an icy texture with a lighter flavor. I actually enjoyed it since I'm not a fan of overly creamy or overly sweet ice cream. It felt lighter and more refreshing. The rainbow sherbet had the same icy texture. One thing is that the ice cream melts very quickly, almost watery, even in 65-degree weather, so have napkins ready. One complaint was the scoop sizes. Our scoops were noticeably smaller compared to other customers being served around the same time, so the portions felt inconsistent for the price.
