3 strikes you are out! I have eaten there several times and this last was one of the worst experiences I've had in a restaurant. A regular convinced me I should give it another try, but 1) they know what to order and 2) they must get better service, which was bad from the start. I have never had a waitress make a face when talking about me -- IN FRONT OF ME. We all have bad days, but this was outrageous. I assume that the wait staff has all been there for a while so she should have understood that rare does not mean RAW. I did ask for rarish, if possible, but when the meat is paper thin, it just can't be done. I love me a good steak tartar, but not on a bun, and not with questionable meat. I know the regulars love the place, but since I'll never come here again, I won't ever know what everyone sees in this place. read more

Just came to Scott's for the first time was in town for a wedding decided to use yelp to find a place to eat for breakfast and came across this little gem. Hospitality is amazing they have excellent customer service. We had an omelette we is big enough to share. The biscuits and gravy is absolutely phenomenal perfect amount of pepper great flavor. My kids had the pancakes perfectly fluffy and just the right amount of browned edges. A friend and I decided to try out Scotty's cafe. The Pancakes was just right. The other sides are good. It is on the pricey side, however the food is right and not oily and greasy like other places. But the environment is really nice. The waitresses really make sure to take care of their customers. They all go around checking on their customers and take time to ask how they are doing. One of the waitresses - Amber - was really cool. She was quick, efficient, but was able to take time and make sure everyone was doing fine. Service was great, but the food lacked flavor. I had a spinach and cheese omelette and coffee, and the coffee tasted burnt too.

Old school diner. Good food and great customer service. Always go to this place when I'm in town.

Scotty's is like eating breakfast or lunch with true friends in their home. May and Owen, the owner/managers, make you feel so welcome and are ever ready to prepare and serve your food the way you want it, as well as visit with you as time permits. That goes, too, for Memo (the cook) - Teri, Rebecca (Becca), Lisbeth (the fine team of waitresses) - Alana and Jasmine (the hostesses), and even Adelso (prep cook/dishwasher) who pops out to the dining area every so often. And after my many visits there, I can truly say everything on the menu is fantastic! And so reasonably priced to boot! For example, your unlimited coffee refills (7 different flavors) are included in the price of many of the breakfast combinations. After a while, if you have a favorite fare, they'll know from memory what you want and how you want it as soon as you start to say it. The counter is especially fun as you can watch Memo and Owen at the grill - orchestrating every inch of space to prepare everybody's selections to perfection. You've never seen an omelet flipped more beautifully than at the hands of these 2 masters! And if you want a friendly laugh to make your day, just start chatting with May, and you're bound to catch a witticism from her at some point. We go to Scotty's for breakfast every chance we get on the weekends - so often that Mae remembers our order every time. Like another reviewer said, it's like you're her family. And Amber should start a fan page, whether you're a first time diner or long time customer, you'd think she's known you for ever and you've got lots to catch up on. I wish I could try everything on the menu but I've never veered away from my favorite - bacon omelette with a side of bacon (crispy). And the coffee is as good as everyone says...the highlight of our Saturday mornings to kick start our weekend. And the donuts are great, too! read more

I have been going to Scotty's about once a week for over 8 years. I find the food and the service to always be consistently top notch. Great comfort food which is always fresh and tasty. You might find it hard to get a counter seat as it usually fills up with "daily" regulars who appreciate the great atmosphere. Terri and Amber are two of the waitresses that have worked there well longer than my 8 years of patronage, you won't find anyone more professional. Terri has received a award for saving a costumer's life when he didn't show up to eat. She actually went to his house to check on him and saved his life. Where do you find that in this day and age?! The only quirk I can think of is they only except cash for their meals and have a handy ATM inside and an accessible bank across the street. I always leave Scotty's in a good mood and to me that is worth a lot. read more

Hands down, this is one of the best cafes in town. While it is large, it is still a very friendly environment. I personally enjoy their fresh-baked donuts, which easily beat most of the local doughnut shops in the area. When I have a bit more time on my hands, I enjoy dining in the restaurant itself, as the customer service (not to mention the food) is always excellent. They are fairly priced, and are pretty quick about preparing and delivering the food. While I usually pay with cash, I would appreciate the addition of credit-card acceptance at Scotty's. read more

We went there last week for breakfast after staying overnight in a nearby Vallejo motel on our way to Oregon. We found them here in Yelp and the reviews seemed most positive. The food and service were absolutely fantastic and the prices very reasonable, just as others had said in their reviews. The only drawback, and I would say a major one that would keep us from going back if we were locals, was a young waitress who was very loud and even abrasive in her banter with what were apparently customers known to her. Luckily, we had an Asian waitress, who was most courteous and attentive. But this other woman ruined an otherwise joyous experience with her loud yelling across the resturant and at times her off-color remarks and sexual teasing. read more

I came to Scottys based on reviews. The waitstaff were very friendly and attentive and the cooks certainly knew what they were doing, my food was exactly to my liking. I was disappointed by their use of canned sausage gravy and canned corn beef hash. (their menu claims fresh, but again, thank you to the waitress for being honest!) Overall however, a nice local diner, their staff certainly makes the place worthwhile! read more

I moved to Vallejo about 7 years ago from Berkeley which is known for the Gourmet Ghetto. Vallejo was a damper as far as good restaurants, thank God for Scotty's. I actually found the place via the GPS unit. The restaurant looks like a basic neighborhood hole in the wall restaurant, however I was impressed on my first visit with the wonderful staff and friendly attitudes. I've been going there weekly ever since. Service has ALWAYS been swift, with excellent strong coffee and good down home cooking. The customers are mostly older and always happy. Beware of the donuts, they are always fresh, delicious and fattening. If your looking for opulence forget it, but if your looking for a friendly place with great food and great service don't miss out. I've rarely found a place that always puts a smile on my face. After 7 years I'm still a great fan. read more

Honestly don't know how this place is still in business. Let me tell you a story about what was suppose to be a nice Thursday morning that turned into a disaster. We walk in and we are greeted by the lovely host which is the highlight of our entire experience here. She seats us quickly and tells us our server will be over shortly. The server (Mexican,brown hair, neck covered in tattoos, with false ghetto lashes) comes over about ten minutes later and asks us for our drinks, I ordered coffee and my bf ordered orange juice. Let me tell you guys something about the Orange juice here, it more like a cheaper version of sunny d that comes out of a gallon. Nasty stuff. After she drops of the drinks we tell her we are ready to order and she said to give her A minute and that she'll be right back. Yeah right! Takes her another 10 minutes to come back and take the order. At this point we were already getting upset with this lady and just wanted our food. The food comes out promptly and is very good. About 5 minutes into our meal some older Asian lady drops our bill dead smack in the middle of our table and says "pay up front". I couldn't even enjoy my meal here for 5 second without being bothered, I didn't ask you for the check and it was very rude for her to try and force us to pay before we even got the chance to take a bite. Let me remind you guys that after our server took our order we literally NEVER SAW HER AGAIN. Since you wanna give crappy service then I can leave a crappy review and your I gave your tip to the host since she was the only pleasant employee here. Take my word of advice and go to good day cafe or anywhere else other than this dump. The food is decent but it isn't worth leaving this place feeling like you were judged and not even waited on. read more
