I've been to this café more recently. We first tried the one in Newport and that was great. The English muffins are excellent. There's potential here. Good deal on their English muffins (6 for $6) , but the matcha latte is not good. The barista remade the drink for me, which was really nice and I'm grateful, but she said something about using "two scoops" of the pre-made powder to make the latte. She used one scoop the second time around and while it was less sweet, the strength of the matcha was very weak. I decided not to return it because I didn't want to be difficult, but I really do think they need to reconsider how they make that drink because the powder mixed with sugar is not it. You should be able to modify sweetness without sacrificing the strength of the matcha. read more

I recently hosted a Christmas party at my home and had a very specific dessert vision. I wanted a variety of desserts with slices of different cakes and cookies so guests could sample a little of everything, not multiple large cakes or cupcakes. After what felt like visiting every bakery in Mission Viejo and striking out again and again, I remembered Scratch Bakery Cafe and I'm so glad I did. Every other place I tried offered only full cakes, cupcakes, or breakfast-style pastries, which just didn't work for an evening party. Scratch was exactly what I was looking for. While it's already fantastic for breakfast and lunch, their dessert and pastry selection is truly outstanding. The desserts were absolutely out of this world. Every single guest raved about them, especially the carrot cake, lemon cake, and the gluten-free dulce de leche cheesecake. The double chocolate cake was incredible, and my personal favorite was the carrot cake. It was hands-down perfection. One tip: don't leave without a dozen chocolate and vanilla cream puffs. They are a must. I'm so glad I chose Scratch. It completely made the dessert table and I'll definitely be back. read more

The best English muffins I've had in the United States. Everything looked great, the service was great, my only beef is. I wish they had indoor seating. I was with my daughter and we had to sit outside. It was pretty cold for her. All in all with a great experience and I will be coming back. I ate here for lunch again today. Laguna Hills location I love the staff and of course the food. Sitting outside today even though it's Windy was just perfect. Very rarely do things if ever go wrong today they had run out of Turkey they were so nice came outside I ordered the Italian sandwich which is delicious. They were so apologetic I kept telling the ladies inside not to worry no Big deal. Again they are so sweet and when people remember your Name it's makes you feel good. I'm here at least once a week, and everything we've tried has been amazing. The cinnamon rolls are my son's favorite (and for good reason -- they're incredible). Personally, I can't get enough of the bacon breakfast burrito with the green salsa -- it's packed with flavor and always hits the spot. You honestly can't go wrong with anything here: the scones, cakes, and cream puffs are all outstanding and clearly made with care and high-quality ingredients. Everyone who works here is amazing. You're treated like family and a friend from the first time. They're very helpful with every detail and make sure you're happy with every detail. I have been extremely happy with every detail of every purchase. Also: There is an astounding variety of beautiful fabric, something for everyone,even if you don't quilt or sew. I have some pieces of fabric that I just like to have around to look at.! There is also something for every mood from happy-silly to sophisticated-designer. Their gluten free baked goods are really tasty but they use some gluten suspicious ingredients that still caused a reaction.. so, not really sure about that. The gluten free bread loaf is really good and I would recommend it. I gave the goods to my friend, excited to give her some GF baked goods, and she gave me her experience. I came for brunch and had The Rooster. For what I paid, and the portions I received, I feel a bit cheated. Ya girl can put away a lot of food and I finished everything and didnt feel bloated so take that as you will. Would I come back? Not for bfast or brunch. I dont think its worth the price for the quantity. Eggs over easy were made very well. They have some nice decorations inside and it does feel roomy to accommodate a crowd. They do offer table service though no personal mugs for coffee or tea. They do use real plates and cutlery for 'here' eats. read more

This place may be good, however, I only had one thing and it was bad. Avocado toast is a piece of tasteless bread, no spread, sliced avocado, tomato, and too much lemon pepper. It is dry, bland and tastes like cardboard. The coffee was good though. Two stars for the potential and the coffee and zero stars for the avocado toast. read more

Some of the pastries and bread are above average. The breakfast burrito is terrible, the breakfast sandwich with sausage is good. Many of the sandwiches are good but small portions. The ruben has the worst quality pastrami (I have tried it twice) Ambiance is nothing to write home about. Service is not the best. A smile and thank you could go a long way. read more

Came here for breakfast with my mom, we needed an outdoor seating since we had our dog with us and just happened upon this bakery. First thing is there a generous amount of tables and chairs outside so it was easy to find one, and the staff was very friendly. Food options are plenty for breakfast and lunch along with a generous amount of pastries both savory and sweet to choose from and interesting choices for tea and coffee. Best part here is there's a vegetarian option for everything. I opted to go simple for food and chose the avocado toast on their rosemary sourdough with a London Fog tea. The London Fog is an Earl Grey with vanilla and milk. While they don't offer soy as a milk alternative they do offer oat milk which was fine for me. The drink was lovely, served hot and tasted like a scone. I don't know how that happened but it was delightful. The Avocado toast however was where the disappointment came. The bread was very nice and had a light taste of Rosemary but personally speaking I'm not fond of having half an avocado per slice. I love avocado but that's a bit much. The tomato was a nice touch but the problem is the seasoning. Laying it over the tomato waters it down and doesn't not provide any of the needed extra flavor to the avocado underneath. In honesty, the seasoning should be placed over the avocado first and then the tomato on top with additional seasoning to complement so each bite is seasoned. I would come back to try again though, the tea was quite good. read more

Food is great however they need indoor seating. It was raining and cold and we had picked this place because of the options for gluten-free. There is plenty of room to put seating inside, but apparently they are still in Covid mode. We had to eat our food out on the patio where it was windy, cold and wet. No reason to not have some indoor seating. We go to the location in Newport and they have option for indoor seating. I went to grab a coffee after a beautiful morning hike with my Wife, and I ordered a caramel macchiato. I watched as the barista pulled a dead shot onto my drink. I gave it a go and the coffee was catastrophic. It tasted very bitter. I asked the barista to remake it into a cappuctand she told me she has to ring me up again. I took 2 sips out of the coffee, it's not like I drank half of it. I ended up throwing it away. Do not recommend. Any other coffee shop the baristas would remake the coffee. read more

Love trying new stuff and bakeries are always a welcome addition... this is located on Via De Carlotta near the Trader Joe's in that center with new condos in it. Bakery stuff is pretty good with the cinnamon roll being good but not enough cinnamon in it for us. The coffees are good and there is a good selection. The fresh made English muffins are 6 bucks for 6 and worth taking home. Service is a 3 star... with one guy at a 4 star and a little girl at a 2 star so I averaged it out. read more

Scratch used to be a delight, but then they started cutting back on food choices, quality, and quantity. The tuna melt has only 1 cheese choice and it has a disagreeable taste and texture. The tuna salad to go box is no longer full so maybe 3/4 full for full price. It used to be all food was delightful, now I see a friend eating here for the first time and he said he wasn't impressed-he won't go there again. Finally, they have an app for discount points and my account is wiped out regularly, along with the points I'd accrued. Sad. read more
