On Saturday, April 2, I took two of my friends to dinner at Screaming Tuna Sushi & Asian Bistro. It just opened so I took the position that it was way too early to try it out, but my friend Tasha couldn't wait. It's located on the river at 106 W Seeboth Street. It's a little tricky to find because the street address leads you to a short street that dead-ends at the river. The restaurant is actually located on the first floor of the Point on the River condo building. It's right next to the former Cafe Luna. (Cafe Luna is apparently closed.) We ordered a LOT of sushi rolls and ended up with more than we should have been able to eat, although by the time we were done there weren't many leftovers to take home. The food was excellent. The prices are roughly comparable to Umami Moto. The space is attractive. There were some minor rough spots. The young man we had for our server was apparently just starting his first job ever as a server. There was also a problem with the wine. I picked out a cabernet sauvignon from a fairly extensive wine list, but the server advised me they didn't have that wine in stock yet. It was the same for next two choices. They did finally have the fourth pick and it turned out to be a good cab at a reasonable price. Overall, we had a good meal and a good time. I can definitely recommend the place, especially for fans of sushi. It will, of course, be even better once they have chance to smooth out the few rough spots. I would expect that by now they have probably already finished stocking all of the wines they offer. The servers seem inexperienced, but I guess everyone has to start somewhere. My hobby is fine dining and I take some friends out for dinner once or twice every week. I have been to a LOT of Milwaukee restaurants and I know from long experience that any new restaurant needs some time to smooth things out. We probably shouldn't even post reviews of new restaurants until we can do so on the basis of a visit after they have been open for at least two months. --------------------------------------------------------------- I was back at Screaming Tuna with three friends on Thursday, April 28, for a Grand Opening Party. I purchased tickets from MetroThief.com for only $30 each and it turned out to be an awesome bargain. They had an enormous buffet with at least two dozen kinds of sushi, plus a table with a chef carving slices of beef. I only began to enjoy sushi within the last 2 years and I am still experimenting. The buffet gave me a wonderful opportunity to try a wide variety of different types of sushi and I liked all of them. It was Sushi Heaven! Joe Hite was performing and we each received a gift bag. The event ticket included all the food plus two drinks, so I enjoyed a couple of glasses of a good cabernet. Once again our whole group very much enjoyed the food and we all had a wonderful time. They appear to have a lot of space in front of the restaurant along the river. so I assume we will have an opportunity for patio dining once we finally get some decent weather. I have more friends that I am eager to introduce to the place, so I may be back again as early as next week. The only real disappointment was that you can't actually hear any tuna screaming. read more

For the price tag attached to this food the atmosphere, location and quality just didn't add up. Nice view of the river/third ward and the appetizers were quick and fresh. The sushi however tasted a little dried out as though it had been prepared earlier in the day or the not before and just taken out of the refrigerator and sliced for serving on a busy Saturday night. I'd much rather stick with my standby Koi on Layton. Great quality and service for a 1/3 of the price of screaming tuna. read more

I have wanted to come here for a long time. I have been working in the Third Ward and pass this place on the way home. We stopped on my way home from work to get take out yesterday. We waited for our order for over 35 minutes. I agree the menu is "grossly" overpriced to quote another Yetper. My hubby chose not to order. Entrees were $20-30 bucks. I got a few rolls for my girls and I. The eel and avocado rolls were good but $8.00 a piece. They put a piece of parchment paper down in the take out box to which all the Maki rolls stuck leaving half of the rice. The rolls were also warm. We also had the Miso soup which is pretty standard. It was placed in the bag next to the soup. My daughter didn't like the taste of her Spiderman roll. And the "Screamer" was inedible. Our bill was over $40.00. The place was empty at 6PM. The only drink special they had was $2.00 off a glass of wine which starts off at $8.00 a glass. Looks like we will be sticking to our usual spot. read more

I really want to love this place, but it is just OK. We stopped in for the Friday fish fry and tried the perch (one traditionally fried and one blackened). For $20, it comes with 3-4 decent sized pieces of fish, sweet potato fries, coleslaw, and pitas. The food would have been delicious, but it wasn't hot. Not cold, just lukewarm. So, normally, I would think the fries were cold because they were ready before the fish was and the fish would be hot or vice versa. Nope. Nothing on either of our plates was hot. That said, the blackened perch was delicious. Service was not awesome. Tartar sauce was forgotten with the fried perch, waited until we were half finished with our meals before we got ketchup, and was served a hot beer glass (as in just came out of the dish washer) with a cold beer. The amazing view is best enjoyed from the bar or at an outdoor table in the summer. read more

Exactly. I have experienced better. Sure, the place is looks pretty nice, beautiful view, and the staff was more than polite. But the food...I just can't get behind it. The spring rolls were fine as an appetizer. Fairly large, but tasted good. I should have listened to the past reviews and NOT ordered the spicy tuna roll because it was awful. No spice, just lots of mushy filler. The salmon saki maki wasn't too bad though. My sister and I also split the seaweed salad which was very good, but perhaps maybe yielded 3/4 cup of salad. Not worth the price! I will say, the wine was good. Overall, there are better places to eat if you are going to pay the price for sushi. 'Nuf said. read more

Ok food. Happy hour on Sundays and Monday have limited items and the sushi can be a bit "off". Nice enough vibe. The service is OK. Wait staff is fine but the hostess staff are hilarious, we know there function is to stand and prop up the hostess stand. Sat at bar. The seats by the window essentially pin you in against bar and window. We've been here twice now so I feel completely comfortable with giving this place two stars. The first time we went because some friends said it was good, and the next time we went because we were with a group and reservations were made before we could say "no". We love sushi! We will try any sushi place at least once and we eat it on practically a weekly basis. This place, for all the hype, is really subpar. Today we ordered edamame to start, it had no salt and they were cold. Strike one! We were talking with our group about how last time we were here we had a roll called "the screamer" that was super hot! So someone ordered, only he received a different roll instead. Fortunately he pointed it out to the waitress and they were willing to make a new roll for him, which ended up being correct. However, strike two! The previous time we came, we ordered 6 different rolls, except we ended up receiving two of the same roll, and our waiter wouldn't believe us or do anything about fixing it (strike three). Also, the amount of tempura and panko that was used on the rolls we ordered was out of control! It was very greasy and totally overwhelmed the rolls. The rice isn't the typical sticky rice you get when you order sushi, and the fish always seems to be warmer than it should be. Just overall really unimpressed with this place. We genuinely won't go back for a third visit. On top of it, you can get way better sushi for half the price practically anywhere around town. The only good thing going for it is the crab rangoons (which they call crab wontons I think). I would not recommend this place to people who truly love sushi. read more

Went for my birthday and it was a great experience. Had Jimmy as our server and he was excellent. Super friendly and extremely quick service. They also brought out dessert with a candle since we said we were celebrating a birthday when making a reservation. A nice touch. They've got a great menu in four parts for all of the usual breakfast standards with a slight twist. I brought my family members to lunch today to enjoy their Omakasi as it was very unique the first time I came and was amazing. This time we had to settle with a limited selection of fish as they were out of most of their main selection. It was really disappointing and embarrassing to me because I recommended unique selections vs any other generic sushi menu and we couldn't get it. Top contender for best Sushi in the Milwaukee area. I visited on SIN night (Service Industry Night, but the deals apply to everyone), and had seven (7) rolls. All were good, some where great. Here's the breakdown in order of deliciousness: Signature Roll x2 Dynamite Roll x2 Spicy Tuna El Kampachi Sesame Chicken I would get each of them again, except for the Sesame Chicken roll which I found rather dull. Server was knowledgeable and kind. The service was a bit slow but it was quite busy and the server informed us of the lag. Overall, I ran back home and posted this review....so needless to say, I enjoyed the establishment and will be back. read more

Food was meh, service was extremely slow, drinks were very watered down and almost flavorless. We waited an hour to order a second drink, and 3 rolls and an app took 90 minutes to come out. Food was pretty disappointing, with no real flavor to any ingredients. My roll had Serrano peppers in it, and when I bit into them they tasted like green bell peppers. Anyway, nigiri here is actually really good, high quality fish, but they were out of uni and scallops, two of our favorite items. Screaming Tuna is starting to grow on me. And I don't mean that in some weird parasitic way. We visited a couple times in the last month or so. The first time was for SIN which is their discount night that occurs on Sunday and Monday. That night we weren't very impressed with the sushi. The SIN menu is much smaller with reduced selections of rolls and such. We each ordered 3 rolls and thought it was average and did not like everything we tried. Note: Do not order the screamer, just don't. You might like hot and spicy and think you can handle this roll. You can't and you won't. You'll be mad you tried it and it ruined your experience. Well at least that's how I felt about it. The second time we came it was another SIN night but we had a city tin to use and it cannot be used on the SIN menu. Great! We didn't want any of that. This time around we ordered sushi for two and it was great! You get three rolls and 10 pcs of nigiri, all chiefs choice. My boyfriend ordered a beer and I ordered hot sake. We ended up with two hot sakes which was nice but also way too much sake. The sushi arrived and it looked delicious. The nigri was so so good! The fish was fresh and melted in your mouth. The three rolls were also very good. One roll I didn't love and I cant remember the name but it was something flash fried with tempura on the outside. The other two were very good. The one I really enjoyed was the Screaming Tuna signature roll. I would definitely order this again. There was a lot of food and it was very filling for two people. We were sitting at the bar and told the bartender that we really enjoyed our sushi this time and not on our last visit. He mentioned that since we ordered from the regular menu the sushi chiefs take a little more care with the rolls than the items off the SIN menu. That kind of makes sense and I'm very glad we ordered this way. The bartenders were also very nice and attentive with their service. SIN is a fun night to come too because the customers are characters. We've been witness to several blind dates and other boisterous and entertaining individuals. Not a dull moment to be had at here. Don't sit in the bar area if you are looking for a more romantic or chill vibe. The space is very trendy and sleek. At night the river has gorgeous views of the city. This place was quite tasty! I picked it for a fun date night since it has a great view of the river! It was fun to see all of the boats coming and going! We enjoyed all of the sushi and the service was good. It is a cool vibe there and they have a nice sized patio (it basically doubles the size of the restaurant). I've tried Screaming Tuna on various occasions, mainly due to the cool location, and the sweet Sunday and Monday deals. What's frustrating is that the sushi is never consistent. When it's supposed to be cold, it's luke warm, and a lot of the times it's falling apart more than it should. I've also had very wishy washy service and have waited forever to be served before. It's frustrating, given I know how many people enjoy this place. Maybe I'll give it another (8th) try. read more

I'm originally from WV...not known for its sushi...for good reason (it doesn't taste good with gravy). Then I lived in Reno NV...believe it or not...really good sushi (coming over from CA). So when we moved to downtown Milwaukee we found ourselves yearning for good sushi. For us the Screaming Tuna fits the bill. Situated on the river (amazing view back toward the city) Screaming Tuna offers a contemporary feel with both indoor and outdoor seating. Very casual and busy but not too busy if its a weekday. If you are a "spicy to mild" sushi lover then you will love their menu. I have to admit I haven't tried much of their non-sushi plates but they all look good when they are carried by our table. Prices are in line at $8-15 a roll with specials in the $6 range. I personally am not a spicy sushi person but I love their Panko Popper roll. Check out the pictures from the outdoor seating...its amazing! One negative (thus the 4)...Parking is an issue. If you can walk or Uber I suggest you do so. The parking in front of the restaurant is reserved for people living above the location and for workers so you are going to start a block away on a good day. read more
