I am giving this company a solid 5 stars because they handled my car and my furniture at the same time. I needed to ship my 2021 SUV, along with about 15 pieces of furniture, to Germany. I was talking to Holly during this process, and she made sure the paperwork for the vehicle was handled correctly so I wouldn't have issues with the German customs agents. They picked up the car and showed me exactly how the tie-downs work inside the shipping container. It is a long wait for the ship to cross the Atlantic, but I received 3 different email updates during the transit time. My car arrived without a single scratch, and all my boxes were dry and secure. Custom wood crating was the main reason I hired this company. I have several large oil paintings and a few antique mirrors that I could not leave behind. Jason sent out a team that actually built the crates right in front of me to ensure a perfect fit. They used a lot of specialized padding and acid-free paper to protect the surfaces of my art. It took about eight weeks for the shipment to reach me, but I didn't mind the wait because I knew the items were safe. I used SDC for a move from Hollywood, CA to West Sussex, UK. I did a self-pack. It was a bit more expensive than the initial quote because the original quote was based on my guesstimate of cubic footage, but it was still cheaper than the other estimates I got. They gave clear instructions on what they needed to get through customs at the destination, and showed up promptly for loading. End-to-end delivery took about 3.5 months, so make sure you have a plan to get through that stretch without all your clothes/furniture. The team in the UK (Eurogroup) also showed up promptly and carried stuff up two flights of stairs. I'm still unpacking, but so far the only thing that didn't survive the trip was a computer monitor. I blame that on my awkward packing of a curved monitor. A few boxes got dinged up, but the contents survived (use plenty of padding/packing material). I was worried about stuff getting damp because of months in warehouses, containers, ships, docks, etc., but everything is dry. Overall, I'm really happy with how smoothly the move went. protip: tell everyone (origin and destination delivery people) about any stairs ahead of time, because there is a fee for moving stuff up/down stairs. read more

Christian is the person who managed everything for me. I was very nervous about shipping my grandmother's 100-year-old vanity and four large oil paintings to my new place in Italy. Everything went fairly smoothly. We decided to ship a 150 cubic foot container. They provided a quote that included packing and destination delivery. Prices are not cheap as is to be expected for an international move. We paid about $5K but it's nice to have your things to make it feel more like home. Nearly all of our goods arrived in good condition except one movable bin was damaged and we might be missing one small box but we are not entirely sure. I hired this company in January 2025 to pack and move my items from California to Canada. The initial quote was $4280 for 300 cf. When movers arrived on March 31, 2025, we went over what was to be packed and shipped. Throughout the process from 8 am - 5 pm, the lead mover contacted the company to say the items have exceeded the 300 cf. They continued packing but DID NOT tell me. It ended up being 500 cf. Once my items were sent to the warehouse, I received a call saying that my initial quote of $4280 is now $9,000. This is where all communication went downhill. It was suggested that I could remove items from the truck. I provided them with a list of what to remove. Apparently, they don't know how to read. I discovered they were removing items that were not on my list. I phoned the company and they contacted the warehouse personnel telling them to put the boxes that were mistakenly taken off the truck and put back on the truck. I, myself, phoned the warehouse and spoke with one of the personnel expressing my concerns. His reply to me was, "it's my fault that this move has become a nightmare because I refuse to pay the $9,000." I also instructed the mover to leave the contents which was in an 8 drawer dresser. He said he would. He did not! I found out once I received the delivery in Canada. Items were stolen. Vintage hair jewelry, 2 oz silver bar, my late mother's one carat diamond ring! This company in my opinion are thieves. They waited for me to be in Canada before the feuding began. I lost valuable heirloom pieces which can never be replaced. This whole scenario could have been avoided if the movers had told me the items exceeded the initial quote. Instead, they remained silent and kept packing. I was referred to SDC by a friend when I had to relocate. From the start Shon was generous with his time and provided lots of useful information about the process of shipping a 20' container to Colombia. I had stuff in 3 different locations, my home, the office, and storage, so there was a lot to coordinate and I wasn't sure how it would all come together. The crew showed up on time, did a great job picking it up and packing everything, they didn't save in materials and protected everything well. We believe a much more appropriate catch phrase for SDC International Shipping would be, "Moving that is below the lowest of all reasonable expectations....." There were so many problems with SDC, we are having to edit-out 6 pages of that which we originally wrote in this narrative to fit within the character limit imposed by this Review Site. CONTACT US THROUGH THIS SITE FOR THE FULL STORY. Very Briefly: We moved a handful of furniture items, boxes of common household good items, and an All-Terrain Vehicle from Tucson, AZ to Ambergris Caye, Belize. SDC charged us $27,423.00 plus $1,345.51 for full-value insurance ($28,768.51 TOTAL ). (1) On the day our shipment was loaded into the shipping container, one of SDC's "international packing experts" showed up "tweaking" on some type of chemical stimulant. Among other issues, this day worker: (A) Was initially aggressively confrontational with me; (B) Got into a confrontation that almost became physical with one of my neighbors who is a Law Enforcement Officer; (C) Dropped 4 large plastic shipping containers off his hand truck to the ground more than half way up the shipping container loading ramp; and (D) Walked on the face of a large, packed, glass front, picture box he had laid flat on the ground. (2) Hours after our household goods and vehicle had been loaded and taken away, SDC International asked us to "certify" statements that were substantially different than the vehicle pre-loading instructions we had been given by SDC weeks earlier. (3) The individual SDC International Shipping chose to act as our Customs Broker in Belize was not familiar with the proper procedure for obtaining the required Duty Exemption Forms, nor did the individual know he needed written authorization from us to act as our Customs Broker. (4) The Broker insisted we would incur additional storage and demurrage fees if we did not accept delivery of our shipment and return the empty shipping container on 18 July 2024. This turned-out to be a lie. (See #8 below.) (5) On the morning of Thursday, 18 July 2024, a flatbed trailer carrying our shipping container was disconnected and dropped-off across the street from our housing area. There were no locks or other device(s) securing the shipping container doors. (6) When it came time to unload our shipment, 20 of SDC's "international packing experts" (actually 20 untrained construction workers and a supervisor from a construction project next door) came to unload our belongings. Their method of transporting our belongings the distance from where the shipping container was left to our home, was in multiple dirt and dried cement-caked construction wheel barrows (pictures attached). No ramps or other appropriate tools were brought to unload and transport our household goods or to off-load our ATV. (7) Despite our contract with SDC stating the delivery personnel would remove and take away the paper and cardboard packing materials used, we were denied that service and told, "We don't do that". (8) The empty shipping container sat across the street from our housing area all day Friday, 19 July 2024 and was not taken away until sometime Saturday afternoon, 20 July 2024. (9) The Broker returned to us the completed Customs Documents we needed to license and register our ATV via air courier, COD. Well-over $27,000.00 we paid for this relatively straight-forward overseas shipment and the Broker returned the final documents we needed COD. (10) We sustained an estimated loss of approximately $4,895.00 due to damages that probably would never have occurred had the proper tools, equipment, and appropriate personnel been available and utilized at both ends of our move. In reviewing other critical reviews written for SDC on various International Moving Review Sites, SDC's owner concerns himself with threatening his unhappy customers with legal action for "slander" and is prone to trying to publicly discredit his unhappy customers by playing the "race card". We find such behavior to be a disturbingly desperate basis for a business model. Should consumers paying premium prices for "premium services" take a chance on an organization that provides inferior service, public veiled threats of retribution, and personal insults of racism? We certainly do not think so. THE BOTTOM LINE: At this point, we would not entrust SDC International Shipping to carry our trash bin to the curb on trash day. We seriously doubt they could get the job done properly at any price. 09/30/2024 UPDATE - The owner of SDC called me today & told me I needed to remove my negative reviews. When I refused, he wouldn't allow me to speak. Instead, he screamed at me telling me I will be the first person he ever sued and, among other things, with one verb and one a pronoun, he suggested I should be engaged in sexual intercourse.... We hired SDC to move us from NH, USA to Ireland. They subcontracted with local companies to do the physical work, so one company packed and loaded our stuff in NH, another shipped everything across the ocean, and another one to delivery & unload our stuff in Ireland. Each individually company did their respective jobs well, and everything arrived safe & sound in the end. Minor problems we had along the way include: * The initial deposit was made by card. It was not made clear that the rest of the payment would need to be made using a cashier's check, we would have organized our finances differently had this been mentioned up front. * The container that was supposed to arrive to be loaded wasn't delivered - the local subcontractor had truck problems; they ended up renting a moving truck, loading everything onto it and then loading the container a few days later. This made us a bit anxious as we were concerned something might go missing (a problem my wife had with an international shipment years previously), but ultimately it worked out. Tried calling them multiple times to get a quote - spoke to Tim on a couple of occasions, he'd always say someone would call me back or just not respond. And no-one ever called me back. Only once was able to get hold of a different rep - Lisa and he was very knowledgeable and courteous. It was a pleasure to work with SDC International for a recent shipment of family furniture from Rhode Island to my home in France. I contacted five different companies for this move--and SDC, with its personalized attention, impressed me the most. From my initial Zoom call with Rob who walked me through the process and studied what I intended to ship, to Yvette who took over the day-to-day details, and Tim who was always ready to help, SDC did everything to ensure that this move was as hassle-free as possible. Kudos to Charles, SDC's local agent in France, who also kept an eye on the paperwork so necessary to get anything accomplished in France. Our furniture arrived in less than a month (lucky timing); unpacking the smaller items gave me the chance to appreciate how everything had been expertly and carefully wrapped. The team of packers in the US showed up early and did not take a single break or slow down during the entire four-hour job. The team in France also couldn't have been more helpful--and they weren't kidding when they reassured me that their service was door-to-door. Heavy furniture that needed to go on another floor was carefully taken upstairs and placed exactly where we wanted it. Empty boxes and protective paper (no bubble wrap! Yay!) were picked up for recycling a week later, once we'd had time to unpack everything. Everything arrived in perfect condition. Even our fragile glass lamps and large artworks arrived without a chip or scratch. (Note: the local movers will unpack all furniture and large items but leave the unpacking of smaller items like dishes, books, pictures and lamps to you.) Be prepared to pay extra for certain services--it's all explained in the contract. We live on an island connected to the mainland by a bridge, so we had to pay extra for a smaller truck to shuttle our furniture from the larger truck.
