I brought my family here after my promotion. I had varying ages from three to seventy, people from out of town, and out of state - and everybody was able to not only find something they liked, but every one raved about their dish! The appetizers were out quickly (we did shrimp ceviche/ nachos/ and gringo queso) and everyone was able to enjoy the spread and enjoy the ambiance and good conversation. Each of the adults ordered drinks, some mixed drinks and some beer on tap, regardless of the restaurant being busy, the drinks were prepared quickly and the bartender was great at offering suggestions to meet those that were unsure of what they'd rather. The portions, even the kid's plates, are generous and definitely filling. We didn't order directly in-house from Señor Grubby but ordered their food while at Stone Brewing Tap Room. Stone Brewing partnered with Señor Grubby so that food can be served at the taproom. We ordered two quesadillas, one plain and one with chicken. Both were solid but nothing particularly stood out about them. They were very big quesadillas which was nice and paired well with our beer. One thing to note, the staff was very nice. We ran out of salsa so I walked across the street from Stone Brewing to ask for more salsas. They were more than happy to give me multiple extra ramekins of salsa which was both kind and generous of them. The Spicy Surf and Turf burrito is delicious! The Shrimp Diabla has a kick to eat but with the waffle fries and ranch I was able to balance the heat. Love that they had a salsa bar. We tried the mild green sauce and the hot green sauce both were good! Also, the location is great. Very happy to visit this weekend and get some great tacos and cocktails! We ordered at the bar and went out to sit on the nice patio. For cocktails, we had the Lucky Melon, which was a watermellon Tequilla drink. It was fantastic. Not too sweet at all and very refreshing! We also tried the Mezcal Margarita. A little spice but not overpowering. (we do like things spicy so taster beware) We then tried the The street tacos were great as well. I had the Pastor, Birra and Pollo. My wife had the Pastor, Shrimp Diablo and Carnitas. My favorite was the Pastor, nice and browned meat. My wife really enjoed the spicy Shrimp Diablo. We added rice and beans plus quacamole. The food here is not worth coming back for in my opinion... my husband said that his torta was delicious but my plate and my sons plate were not very good. My tacos de adobada has little flavor. Came during happy hour...asked for veggie taco was told that was not possible...only had been & cheese burrito which was not on happy hour. Bean burrito had burnt cheese in it. Salsa green & red were both horrible. Then woman next to me at the bar was served bean & cheese taco...but bartender said that was because she asked for it. Beer 805 was flat...asked for change to Mexico Lager, which was really no better. Had to pay tab with tip before bartender would enter order. Or maybe just a little salt and pepper I had a rice bowl and it was extremely Bland it tasted like a big bowl of nothing even worse I went with somebody we both had rice bowls they got like 9 oz 10 oz of rice I got maybe two oz of rice it didn't make any sense most of mine was just a soupy avocado and canned pinto beans. Recently some coworkers and I decided to give Senor Grubbys a try. We had heard great things about it. We went for happy hour and stayed for dinner. We started with 1/2 order of nachos which was the perfect size for us and were very good. My coworkers ordered burritos and were excellent. Both of them brought half home. Grubby's leaves a lot to be desired. The staff here lacks attention to the customers - I came here on a Sunday morning - warning #1 was it not being busy. I ordered the chorizo and eggs to share and they asked a bunch of questions like how I liked my eggs cooked, tortillas or toast, but nowhere on the menu or thru the cashier did it say it was served with cheese - what if I was lactose intolerant? Chorizo has a lot of fat as it is and I don't like being "that person" when I'm out to eat so I dealt with it. Even when we received our food, the runner did not bring utensils and I had to find them myself at the other side of the bar. The bar was sloppy - there was an unattended knife and cutting board not only collecting bacteria but also a safety hazard for the crazies out there! It sucks to say but that should not be left on the counter top if nobody is using it. The bartender did not ask how spicy we liked our bloody Mary's nor did he refill our waters while we were there. The water also tasted extremely bitter and like the nosel it came from was not cleaned in several weeks. read more

I received an email from my apartment management that they were hosting a fundraising event and had partnered with Señor Grubby's to raise funds for the PTSD Foundation of America. On Monday between 6-8pm. Being new to the area, I am still enjoying the process of exploring new and nearby establishments. My fiancé and I headed there around 6:30 pm and it seemed fairly busy but still very convenient to put in a take out order. We were welcomed by a man at the counter who explained this is somewhat of a new location and their larger location is in Carlsbad. They said they partner with charities and sponsor fundraising events often and assured me that tonight's proceeds would go to the PTSD foundation so I knew I was in the right place. They have a huge breakfast menu and that made me happy as I am always on the hunt for breakfast places in the O'side hood. Their lunch/ dinner menu was equally as gargantuan. My fiancé wanted a basic, carne asada burrito with rice and beans and the woman working the register said that was not on the menu but they could certainly make that for him. I was surprised to find some healthy options which os what I chose to order. I got the "Heathy Burrito" and opted for the bowl (you can make any burrito into a bowl) and I added avocado. While we waited for our orders to come out, we helped ourselves to the salsa and pickled vegetable bar where we prepared a variety of to-go salsa samples ranging from mild to (incredibly) spicy. Beware of the light green salsa! The pickled carrots, onions, and jalapeños were delicious too. It was less than ten minutes before our food was ready and it was nice and hot still when we got home a few minutes later. All together our order was under $30 which was fairly priced. We enjoyed our meals-everything was fresh and delicious and the portions were large enough that we had some for lunch the next day. The environment was laid back and fun and the staff was super nice. Seasoned fries was the advertisement on the menu. But the sad display of fries in my to go order that I waited for nearly 40 mins for. I feel hoodwinked ! I was charged $3 plus tax for seasoned fries and I barley have 5 waffles fries. Hopefully this burrito makes up for the robbery that just occurred. read more

So excited for a new Señor Grubby's location! They did a really nice job with the space, it feels open in the seating area and the decor looks nice and thoughtfully designed. The Carlsbad location is claustrophobic, sticky and loud. This place was much more relaxing. The food is the same in both locations. With celiac you have a very very limited number of gluten free options, but I do love ordering shrimp by the weight and making myself some tacos. The salsa bar is pretty good and has a nice ranges. I do not like their seasoned carrots though so that is disappointing. There's one bathroom and they do have a changing table for the kiddos! Overall this place is good and the location is great right near the beach. Check it out! read more

We recently had my husbands 60th Birthday party with 50 guests at the Oceanside location. We couldn't have been happier with the food, service and location. Our guest commented on how delicious the food was and how attentive and helpful the staff were. The location was perfect for the party. Big screen TV's to watch the football and baseball games, music , and we had a tv dedicated to play our photos of my husband. Natalie the Event Coordinator was simply the best! We've always been fans of the Carlsbad location, though once we moved to Oceanside, we didn't visit very much so it was awesome seeing they setup a new spot here in O'side! I brought my family here on a Saturday, around lunch time. It was moderately busy with several open tables & booths. We sat at one booth but it felt weirdly small...like I was too close to the table. We switched booths two more times and found one that was more comfortable. We had a coupon from the "Get 1 Free" book for a free ceviche. We ordered that and two kids bean & cheese burrito plates. At first, I thought the kids plates were a little pricey ($8.50) but they come with an adult size soda and rice & beans. The burrito itself is MASSIVE. Largest kids burrito I have ever seen. It's enough for 2 or 3 meals. Note: this could easily be split if you have two smaller kids. The ceviche was also ginormous, however it was not your typical ceviche. I'd really just call it "lettuce & shrimp with avocado". There was no diced tomato, onions or jalapeno (that I could see) and you could definitely tell it was missing. We also ordered: * Spicy surf & turf burrito ($13.50) * Carnitas torta with fries ($12 + $2 = $14) * California Burrito ($10.45) * TJ Bacon Hot Dog ($2.50) When I ordered the torta, they asked me what side I wanted. From the list of options, I chose fries. I did not know that the side was extra...$2.00 extra! I wouldn't have ordered it had I known (we already had chips from the ceviche). Keep this in mind when ordering. On a positive note, the torta & bacon dog were fantastic. I also ordered the spicy surf & turf but I didn't even need it. The hot dog was more than enough food. Other tid-bits: there is a separate men's & ladies restroom. The ladies entrance is up-front and the mens in the back. I saw women using the men's room a couple of times so that's an option if anyone in your party needs one ;) We also ordered a house margarita, and two draft Modelos. Have never been here or necessarily cared to but a couple weeks ago at the sunset market they were giving out free burrito gift cards. Decided to get the whole family dinner and use it today. Husband and son both got the Cali burrito. I thought theirs were very tasty. Mexican food is usually too heavy for me but i figured having 2 loaded hot dogs wasn't too heavy:) I got the Padres special dogs. I must have eaten the wrong one first. The musgrove Cali was really good but it needed a sauce, the machado needed more substance, too saucy. If I would have eaten my machado first I could have scraped sauce on to my other one. I would totally be back to get the musgrove and add sauce but it's only during Padres games and unfortunately their season is over after this weekend. Hope they're here next season and we will def eat here again. We ordered chips and they weren't like my grandmas but still good. My son didn't like the horchata. I liked their salsa choices. So much great food, good prices & a fantastic staff. This is our go-to place for weekend brunch & Taco Tuesday. My favorite drink is their "Manmosa" - a mimosa (very strong) served in a tall glass. No weenie-sized mimosa for me, but they do serve the smaller sizes here here (but WHY?????)! All their food is fresh & made to order. You can't go wrong, the vibe is laid-back& fun. My breakfast of choice is the Cali To Denver Scramble with home fries & sourdough toast. Up your game by ordering the home fires "Grubby-Style" with sautéed onions & bacon. Plenty for me to take home for another meal Seriously, give this place a try & walk it off on the Oceanside Pier just around the corner. read more
