A customer I met in town suggested to hang out here for happy hour. Glad he did! Drinks, fries, queso dip to kick things off. Cadillac margarita was refreshing and tasty. However, the choriqueso tacos stole the show for me. I am no vegan in any way whatsoever. Actually far from it. This was the first vegan meal I've ever had and glad it was here! My husband and I were so excited this finally opened in Oceanside, and today we got to try it for the first time, and we had high expectations for this place because of the good reviews, but sadly, it's average. Food - we tried the tacos, carnitas and carne asada, thinking we should try the basic meat first, and we were really disappointed, it lacked flavor. The chicharones tacos were alright as well. I had dinner last night at Señor Grubby's, overall the food was quite tasty. I ordered surf and turf burrito. I did not realize that item is spicy. Very good quality steak and shrimp, just make sure you have a cold beverage to cool down your mouth. I also got to try their specialty drinks. Clean, indoor and outdoor dining. I had an Al Pastor Burrito... it was HUGE. I had half for dinner and half for lunch the next day. The marinade was sweet and the meat was lean... not greasy but not 5 stars as I thought the meat could have been a bit more authentic tasting. This has always been our go to place for burritos but their food has declined a lot during this pandemic. Last night I got a California burrito and my first 3 bites were chunky pieces of fat, the meat was not carne asada at all it was terrible and I couldn't eat it. No more Senor Grubbys for us ever. If you're looking for a great local to Oceanside place to eat then I would definitely suggest coming to Grubby's. There food is excellent and the portions are big! You get a lot of bang for the buck . Another cool feature, if you check in on Yelp then you get a free street taco! I mean who doesn't like free tacos. As for the service, it is friendly and efficient. The restaurant is clean and a nice open space / industrial feel. There are a nice amount of TVs to watch your football game on. The food is pretty outstanding. Be careful though because when their menu says spicy, it is no joke! Oh and there hot salsa is flat out lava haha. If you get the chance order their bacon wrapped hot dog fully loaded. It is absolutely amazing. I mean hands down one of the best hot dogs I've ever had. Delicious food. Friendly service. Happy Hour food menu is great. Chicken nachos were fantastic. The atmosphere eating inside was way cooler than I thought it would be. The only negative is every single employee I saw smoked the instant they walked out of the front door or hit their E-cig right before they walked in and then standing close to the front door to finish their cigs. As a nonsmoker, It is disgusting to smell and have to try to dodge the smoke right at the front door. I'm there to eat. The food was so good and service was so great that they still deserve five stars. I just would hope I see an adjustment of that on future visits. read more

One of our FAVORITE places to come for the best food, drinks and company. We've loved everything we have had here! Some favorites: the Carlsbad burrito (sub crisscut fries), ANYTHING with the shrimp diabla or al pastor, the breakfast burritos and the quesadillas. On our annual 4th of July trip to Oceanside, Seen this place and decided to give it a try. We like the food so much and the customer service we came back next day with friends. Have to acknowledge one particular employee named Kevin, he is totally awesome super friendly very knowledgeable about food and went out of his way to make us feel comfortable as we had brought our disabled daughter in her wheelchair and he had to rearranged the seating for us. Pedestrian food, smaller than normal portions (though larger than tapas), and overpriced. It's walking distance to the beach and clean. But the prices are u reasonable and customers have to go to the register to order. We ordered 3 different times to add more food and drinks and paid each time. Kind of a hassle. And tipping when the customer has ti get up to order seems weird. read more

Pandemic take-out review: Very happy that this local staple continues to stay open while following social distancing recommendations. Their fish tacos are consistent in preperation, and their corn tortillas are the perfect texture. I do prefer a double wrapped taco (for structural integrity), but the single tortilla at Grubby's holds up on its own. My grub-hub order through Yelp was prepared promptly, and they had made togo salsa containers for me, ready to go in the bag. I recommend the shrimp diablo for anyone looking for some serious spice, and their veggie burrito is like 3 days worth of food. Their crinkle cut fries are really waffle cut, but are extra crunchy and seasoned to perfection. This place is a must try!! They have a great selection of food, specialty cocktails, and draft beers. I'm a big fan of micheladas, and theirs is one of the best I've had in the San Diego area. The atmosphere is beautiful too - this is their second/new location and they did a nice job setting up the interior of the space. Their burrito is also massive and delicious! Tried this place for the first time and had the spicy surf and turf burrito with beans and rice and a fountain drink. The burrito was decent, but the sides were horrible. They tasted a little weird and unauthentic. The kicker tho? My meal cost me 25 dollars. $18 for burrito, $3 for two SMALL sides and $3 for the small fountain drink. One thing that was consistent was the lack of Flavor. I'll get into that shortly. Upon arrival it is extremely inviting. Staff is very nice and everyone has a smile on their face and greets you. You want that in a spot without question. I had 8 Tacos and here's what I thought 2 Fish Tacos (Fried) - 6.2/10 ~ Out of the tacos I ate these were by far the best. Sauce was solid and crisp was just right. Throw the serrano salsa and it's good. 3 Al Pastor - 3.5/10 ~ No Flavor and that's hard to do when you have Al pastor. The meat was cut nice and had a decent crisp but without flavor it really means nothing. I added Salt, Salsa and lemon. 2 Carnitas - 3.0/10 ~ again, the flavor. This is pork which is almost naturally salty and I still couldn't get the most out of it without Salsa , lemon and salt. 1 Chicharrón - 1.0/10 ~ this was just bad. It was like someone smashed a bag of chicharrón chips and put it on a tortilla. Also no flavor again. In Conclusion.... Staff/ Customer Service ~ 9.0/10 , Extremely attentive and very friendly. Price ~ 7.5/10 , Affordable especially on Tuesday or Happy Hour Tacos ~ 3.5/10, I'm very critical of tacos as they are my favorite food. But these did not live up to the hyped reviews. No flavor and that's the whole thing. Presentation is meaningless if the food is missing the most important part. This is a boutique Taco Shop. It doesn't claim to be authentic which is good.
