I'm a fan of Grubby's Poke, and came here to check out another member of the restaurant family. We came for Taco Tuesday which featured fish tacos for $2.50 and Mexican lager for $5. Maybe this is a good thing for some people, but I found the filling to tortilla ratio difficult to eat as the tortilla was way too small to use to fold up to eat the piece of fish. Maybe it's purposeful, as you will get grubby eating it. It tasted decent enough though, and I really can't say it's bad. Solid a-ok for me. read more

Terrible place, ordered to go, they got my order wrong and made it for dine in, they just wrapped the burrito (it was sliced up in half) and threw it in a bag, it's was a mess as soon as I opened it, and the cashier (blonde tatted) had a horrible attitude and said "my shift ends in 7 minutes I don't care what you guys do" (to the cooks) This place it's over priced for no reason because service is terrible!! read more

The girl in the front with the dark curlyish hair ... had the absolute worst attitude ever. I walked in with my family and we waited for her to help us for around 10 minutes while she was just sitting on her phone. When she finally did help us she was rude about us just standing there. Decent place. This was our second visit--the first was during a vacation in May 2023 when we enjoyed the happy hour nachos. We returned in August 2024; my husband tried the tacos, and I had the nachos again. Both were tasty each time, though the tacos were pretty small. Service was satisfactory, though not remarkable. It would be helpful if the menu included English translations for the different types of meat, as not all customers are familiar with the Spanish terminology. This use to be my go to place. Seems it's gone down hill. The last few times the food had not been as good and the service was lack luster. However after this evening I will not be back. I was with a party of 8. 3 were kiddos, we were popping in for dinner. A worker told us they could not serve us because the kids had Handles milk shakes. Seriously you are turning down over $200 in food and drinks because 3 kiddos had milkshakes ? When the restaurant is EMPTY on a Friday night? Not a single other person was there. Good flavor on all items but too small of tortillas makes holding hard. Doubled tortillas or an inch bigger would be nice especially for the larger fish tacos. Nice clean interior right in downtown. Lots of tv's showing sports and offers a full bar. read more

I was in the area and was jonesin for some tacos so I decided to try Señor Grubby's! It was my first time going so I had no idea that it was somewhat of a chain restaurant until I got there to pick up my take out order. As soon as I walked in I was handed my order, talk about fast service! I couldn't hardly wait to try my 3 taco comboI could tell my order was freshly made and not sitting there long due to the steam that escaped my to go box when I opened it to check my order. The fries were so good! I had to snag a couple before I got back to my hotel. Once I was settled, I started off with the garlic shrimp taco. It was really good! They were not skimpy on the shrimp either, I pretty much had a shrimp in every bite! Next was the Baja fish taco. It was good and could easily pass for an authentic Baja taco. The cabbage and creamy sauce brought out the flavor of the fish that much more! Last was the asada taco, it was very delicious! I love me some Grubby's. Carlsbad or Oceanside you can't go wrong. When restaurants started to open for dine in this was the fam's first stop. It never disappoints! Fish tacos. Incredible. California Burrito. 5 star deliciousness. 5 star guy bomb. 5 star totally worth it! Shrimp ceviche. Wow. I don't like ceviche. My wife does. I like the ceviche at Grubby's Juevo Rancheros. Insanity Green chili pork burrito. My mouth is watering thinking about it. Careful when ordering The Stacker for breakfast. It will feed a family or one person for a 3 day weekend. I had the healthiest burrito, and yes, it seemed healthy but I think that by making the item be healthy, it diminished some of the flavor. So, maybe unhealthy items here would taste better. Time for lunch and this place was handy and not very busy so we parked right ourside and headed in. There is a small outdoor eating area with about six two-person tables. You order at the register and they bring you your food. There is a full bar. I ordered the healthiest burrito. It was quite large and full of meat (chicken), lettuce and beans. My burrito was a little too full of liquid so it dripped into my basket with every bite. There were about three different salsas on the table and I tried one to add a little spice to my burrito, which I felt it needed. I also had a bottle of negra modelo. Overall a good meal, but not a great one. If you are hungry, this place will fill you up. Have a few beers and enjoy yourself here. read more

Picked up a couple of burritos to take across the street to Stone and was not disappointed in the food! I got the Carnitas burrito and my friend got the Chicken Caesar salad burrito - both items were loaded with protein and the flavors were excellent. While we took our food to go, the restaurant looks really cute. Simple ordering counter right when you walk in, and there looks to be plenty of indoor seating as well as a decent sized patio. The food was ready quickly and I liked that there was a self-serve salsa bar with options for take-out. The salsa bar was stocked and the options were plentiful - bold, spicy flavors from all three that I tried! Then they opened up a second location expanding from Carlsbad to Oceanside and I figured it's time to give them a try. When a friend visiting from Portland stated a desire for breakfast burritos, it was time to visit. We both opted for the healthy option: an egg white burrito accompanied by grilled veggies and wrapped in a whole wheat tortilla. It hit the spot. It tasted exactly how one would expect. I've always loved the food at Senor Grubby's, which in a story in the San Diego Reader recently I described as "gourmet Mexican." Last night I had Grubby's cater an event for the very first time, and I was completely blown away by how wonderful everything was. I have catered many different events in my life, but this has got to be the best experience ever. Everything was first class, from the food to the service, from the set up to the teardown. We come here ALL the time. Multiple times per week. The last time we ordered our normal to go order, we BOTH received pico de gallo on our order- which we specifically said to leave out (we both hate it)....which is confusing because the person on the phone even read back the order without pico for both.!?!? To add, we also got salsa which clearly is spoiled and has gone bad (it's fizzy when it hits your mouth and extremely tangy- and not in a good way) and totally ruined both our appetites on top of the pico which we were picking out of the items the entirety of eating our meal . We usually don't complain about food we receive when we order to go or go into a restaurant...but if you're going to charge $20 DOLLARS for a single burrito, at least get the order correct and provide salsa that is fresh, not spoiled/bad. Pretty disappointed & will probably never return. Which sucks because we already had a HORRIBLE experience at the Carlsbad location as well. read more

Stopped here for a casual Saturday afternoon early dinner and Margs. Service is at the counter, but staff are friendly and efficient. They bring your food to you as soon as it is ready. The drinks are ordered separately at the bar. I ordered a coconut margarita that was fantastic! The birria nachos might have been the best nachos I have had in San Diego. My companion ordered shrimp ceviche, and it was also among the best in town. It's not spicy unless you want it to be. We also ordered a taco made with nopales, and my companion said it was as good as he remembers growing up in Mexico. We will be making this our "go-to" local spot for Mexican cravings. The biggest drawback was ambiance. The outdoor patio is streetside, and it was not private and wasn't pleasant when smokers walked by. Inside was pretty loud during the Padres game. A new senor grubbys location! I love the Carlsbad village one, and I always stop by after a fun night out. I was so happy to see another one open up in Oceanside! This is the best food to get after a night out of bar hopping, as they are open late and have a large and delicious menu! This location was really nice inside and had great decor! The staff was very friendly and welcoming as well. I love the carne asada chips, they are delicious! Everything always tastes really fresh, the only downside this time were my chips were a little stale. Other than that this place is a winner! Ok. This review is a 5 because of the food and service...but. Watch out! I'm a huge fan of salsa/ hot sauce as you may know if you follow my reviews. I wasn't ready for their hot sauce. Killed the flavor of everything and I was on the toilet for half the day after (not their fault). That said: tacos: amazing! Carne asada burrito: massive AND deliciously amazing (ate it at the AirB, microwaved 1/2, had to stuff the other half in because so awesome-no microwave on that part but just as good (think " cold pizza" and you'll agree it's never bad). I prefer the Oceanside location over the Carlsbad Village Drive one (think I gave that a 3 star) because of the vibe, the service, and the food was just that GREAT! read more

I brought my family here after my promotion. I had varying ages from three to seventy, people from out of town, and out of state - and everybody was able to not only find something they liked, but every one raved about their dish! The appetizers were out quickly (we did shrimp ceviche/ nachos/ and gringo queso) and everyone was able to enjoy the spread and enjoy the ambiance and good conversation. Each of the adults ordered drinks, some mixed drinks and some beer on tap, regardless of the restaurant being busy, the drinks were prepared quickly and the bartender was great at offering suggestions to meet those that were unsure of what they'd rather. The portions, even the kid's plates, are generous and definitely filling. I came to this place for breakfast based on Yelp reviews. The food was ok. We ordered the Chubbys Breakfast burrito. It has bacon and sausage which were over cooked, dry and crunchy. The potatoes in the breakfast plates were over cooked and dry as well. The flour tortillas were huge and pretty good. My husband liked his Machaca and eggs, which had big slices of beef mixed in with bell peppers. The rice and beans were not authentic and were a bit dry for my liking. What brought up my score was the restaurant. They have a self serve salsa bar and drink station. They also have a cool vibe, deco and bar. Breakfast ends at 11am and there's parking in the front. read more

We didn't order directly in-house from Señor Grubby but ordered their food while at Stone Brewing Tap Room. Stone Brewing partnered with Señor Grubby so that food can be served at the taproom. We ordered two quesadillas, one plain and one with chicken. Both were solid but nothing particularly stood out about them. They were very big quesadillas which was nice and paired well with our beer. One thing to note, the staff was very nice. We ran out of salsa so I walked across the street from Stone Brewing to ask for more salsas. They were more than happy to give me multiple extra ramekins of salsa which was both kind and generous of them. I would perhaps give them a second try in person as opposed to ordering from a different business. read more
