The service was HORRIBLE. We went one night and they were completely out of live fish and told us you'll have to come back the next day. We asked what comes when you order hwae, and asked if it comes with side dishes. The lady said yes. So we go the next day, order the hwae. Asked about side dishes and the younger guy at the counter says it doesn't come with side dishes in a condescending way. And we had to ASK for the free fish soup that comes with it. Which was premade, and they don't give you the pieces that are leftover from the hwae you ordered. Avoid this place and the younger guy needs to really change his attitude. We walked in and there was nobody to acknowledge us for a while. I wasn't sure if we seat ourselves or wait to be seated. A lady from behind the counter finally noticed us and directed us to sit at a certain table. Menu is on the table so she came by to take out order. There's not very many pictures to reference the size. The chef's choice sashimi platter range from $39.99 to $119.99. I had to pull up Yelp photos and with the help of the server, we ordered the medium platter for $59.99. As we waited, we were given a plate containing edamame and what appears to be fried pieces of fish skin. It was unexpected and tasty. The sashimi platter was fresh and contained a nice variety of fish and other seafood. I was surprised to see octopus and clams. It was served on a bed of radish, which I love, with sliced jalapeños and garlic on the side. There's no question the seafood is fresh here. They have tanks in the front containing lobsters in the front. The tanks are clean and there's no funky odors. This place is very traditional. Service was adequate. They have a self serve station where you can get your own water from a water cooler and additional silverware, sauce cups, and napkins. Took my niece here for a birthday dinner of her choice. It's right by Paris Baguette and she's always been intrigued by it. She thought it was just ok. This is a Korean seafood restaurant that specialize in live seafood. When you walk in, you will be greeted with oceany smell of the aquarium tanks and see a small hallway, which is all of the restaurant. There are only about 6 tables. Now, expect fresh quality seafood at a reasonable price but do not expect lavishing side dishes to come with it. This place specializes in seafood only, so the items are limited to what fresh seafood they have in stock that day and not much else besides small options of sushi. Most things are self serve such as water, unlimited miso soup, and silverwares. I've had various sashimis here including abalone, sea squirt, gwaengo, sea cucumber, etc. and because they are so fresh, it doesn't taste fishy and it's top notch quality! Fresh seafood Korean restaurant is extremely hard to come by in this area and this is the only one in DFW that I know of. This is a small hole in the wall setup, run by the owner and a minimum crew. Similar to other Korean self-serve places in the area, don't expect much service. You do some legwork to keep the prices down. The place smells clean and the fish looks and tastes fresh. I ordered the $59.99 sashimi platter. It is a decent mix of fishes but that mix is likely going to change each week depending on the catch. Many of the seafood items are market priced and not clearly stated. So, be sure to check the price and the weight of the item you are planning to order first. In a similar place that offers live seafood, I normally follow the staff to the tank/scale and check out the condition and weight of the catch before committing to it. That way, there is less surprise when it comes to your table. Was very excited to try this place for Korean style sashimi. Sadly they just missed the mark on so many levels. First, when I walked in I asked for a table in the back. She asked why, I advised we had a party of 7. The waitress/owner(?) said she would have to clean it. Which, ok? Does this mean you don't want us to dine in or what? Then asked if we had a reservation? There was one other table occupied, wtf do we need a reservation for? Anyways, they accommodated our party but then had an attitude when she realized 3 of the 7 were kids. She said "you'll have to eat quickly, then". I asked why, she said we were occupying more space than we were ordering for and that she expected a dinner rush. I asked if she didn't want our business but she must have not heard or ignored me as she walked to the back. And no, this wasn't a disconnect in language because I am fluent in Korean. We ordered a large omakase, an order of raw shrimp, an udon, fried shrimp tempura and steamed lobster. So, even with 3 of the 7 being kids, we ordered plenty of food to be treated with respect. And again, the rest of the place was empty. The omakase was fine, but I felt like they gave us mostly end pieces. We also didn't get any of the fish soup that usually accompanies the large platters. The fish was pretty fresh tasting but I had a couple frozen/icy pieces so it makes me wonder how fresh it actually was. Service got better. Until the lobster came out. They were out of butter, not sure how and why she wouldn't have told us when we specifically asked if they had butter before we ordered. The lobster was very rubbery due to being over cooked. And the mind blowing kicker...market price was $149!? Didn't disclose how many pounds or anything, just showed up as "1 lobster steamed" on the bill. This new establishment is great if you want to quickly get a sashimi platter. We did online order for chef's choice platter, medium size and a bunch of sushi rolls. The sashimi platter was amazing, the raw meat is top of quality and well packaged for to-go. There are some seats in the restaurant too if you're lucky. The platter also came with some soup for two which has the rest of the fish in it. You'll find garlic and jalapeños with the platter but no lettuce, though you can buy a pack in the shop for $9. The sushi rolls were a little disappointing; the rice tasted a little rough and old, and the imitation crab meat wasn't the best. Live Gwang-eo is very fresh and price is reasonable ($70, M) and it's enough for 2 ppl. H mart sells $80-90 for minimum but here you can get same portions with cheaper and free spicy soup too which is small but it's enough after finishing raw sashimi because sashimi will make you very full already. The picking is slim out here. For now this is the best you are going to get. They sell out quick on some stuff so make sure to call in ahead of time. We looked at reviews and pictures before ordering but our pieces were very small but fresh. What we learned was - don't order the mix- actually order what you want sometimes they get you with the cheaper end stuff but still charge you the full 60 for prices that aren't worth it. It's a cute small joint next to Hmart and Paris Baguette. It's only run by the husband and wife so they can get backed up fairly easy. I would suggest ordering by phone so you don't have to wait.
