Driven past this place a few times and heard good things about it. Last night we actually ate there. The interior is very unimpressive... so one would hope that the food would make up for it. My chicken fried chicken was good, but the mashed potatoes were boring. I'm happy that they let me substitute the green beans, so I went with the fried macaroni. This is a landmark in the Seabrook/Clear Lake area. You cannot have lived in this area and not try this place just ONCE. It isn't real fancy nor do they serve your fried seafood on china but they have good food, decent prices and will treat you like family. I especially love their fried pickles with an extra side of ranch dressing. They are not overtly greasy or crunchy, but just perfect with a hint of sour, like pickles are supposed to be. We also tried the fried green tomatoes and although I WANTED to like the, the sauce that was placed on top was such a foul mixture. I think it was horseradish with something spicy. It was not a good mix. I'll ask for the tomatoes without that sauce next time. The fried chicken salad is wonderful and fresh and you can have olives, egg or pretty much anything you want added to it for a small price. I had the fried chicken with macaroni and cheese, green beans and large garlic bread. I did not like the breading on the fried chicken. I love mine crunchy and this was soft and doughy. The macaroni and cheese is to die for. Not too cheesy or salty, just perfect. They also have a decent selection of kids meals with choices like chicken tenders and fries, shrimp, grilled cheese, burgers and even a mini prime-rib for your little kiddo. This is always a great place to meet new people! Their prime rib on Sundays is amazing. The frozen screwdrivers are a must. Great diner sandwiches and comfort foods is amongst favorite. Solid breakfast and brunch joint in the clear lake area. We do thoroughly enjoy this place, full of locals. Does give a divey vibe, but in the best of ways. This is prolly the only respectable breakfast/brunch place within a 15 mile radius worth spending money on. We prefer to sit in the bar area which is first come, first served sitting. The front does always have a wait, but the place is packed and worth the wait. The staff are friendly and attentive. All menu items are good. The beignets are a must and I'm typically drawn to the migas, breaux bridge (boudain benedict) or the breakfast sausage corn dogs. My expectations were not met. I would go back though. I used to eat here in the 80's when I lived in Clear Lake and loved to eat. here. I am sure the ownership has changed many times. The bar is Great and the service is Great. Food is just average. Here is what we ordered: 1.Seafood Platter -Shrimp were perfect, oysters undercooked, Crab cake good, broiled fish was NOT fresh. I ordered the Eggs Benedict a side of bacon and hash browns while my wife ordered fried eggs, biscuits & gravy, hash browns, and bacon. The place was quite busy. The bacon came in pieces. I've been coming here basically my whole life, and it's one of the places I always make sure to visit while I'm in town. Of course, it's never difficult to fit a trip to the Classic Cafe in, because all of my family loves it too. Perhaps I shouldn't admit that the only thing I get here are the chicken tenders, but they are so delicious that I've never been able to convince myself to move on to anything more grown up. Plus, the honey mustard here is perhaps the most delicious thing on the planet. Seriously, I'd come here just for the honey mustard. One of the great things (or maybe not) about the Classic Cafe is that their menu is quite often in flux. I think I've seen three different menus in the past year. Most of the diner standbys remain the same, but I guess they trade out some less popular menu items and try new things. Thankfully the odd Star Wars/Back to the Future menu is gone. When I was really young, my parents would take us outside to look at the boats while we waited for our food to come. Later, we played hangman at the table to keep us kids occupied. The service was horrible... and the food was just as bad. We came on a Sunday for lunch... and unfortunately will never come again. From the beginning, our service was horrible. The waitress was incredibly rude and only attentive when she saw me pull out my wallet from my purse. Coffee was served in a dirty cup. Our food took too long and when it finally reached the table, my fries were cold and soggy. Even the side pickle looked bad. Waitress sets down plates of food and asks "how is everything?"... and doesn't stick around long enough to hear a response. Again, it's unfortunate. read more

Two words... Egg. Sandwich. This is our go to breakfast spot in the Clear Lake area. Breakfast ends at 11:30a on the weekends so be sure to arrive before then. It's usually pretty crowded but I have never waited more than 10-15 minutes for a table. Bar selection is limited but the food is amazing!! After seeing reviews about new policies on take out orders and 18% fee, I called classic to confirm. The person who answered said the policy was in place to insure thier/her income. I have no safety net not even unemployment. I always tip, many times doubling or more the bill. However, I was taken back by the me first attitude that I went to Mario's instead. I had to lay off 40 awesome staff and over $1 million in debt, losing all I worked for the past 35 years where I gave a $100 tip on a $20 bill. read more

This place was a solid three for years. What was wierd is that on weekends it was extremely crowded for a breakfast that was at best average. That was a turn off if you are a local. It seemed to be a trendy place for people hanging around the water, and that is cool. About a year and a half ago, the food slipped and went down a notch and at that time I would have rated this place a 1. The food has since come back. This is a typical Houston diner but it's on the water. It has your basic chicken fried baloney and the other basic Bubba lovin fried foods. The deserts are very nice and they claim alot of the pies are home made. From time to time the soups are decent and the prices are right. I was worried about eating here because it was not a four star restaurant. However I was more than impressed with their service and flavor of food. I ordered the prime rib dinner with mac and cheese and aside order of mash potatoes. The choice piece of meat was tasty and full flavored. I was a little taken that they pack d the flavor in. My wife had the chicken piccata and it was tender and flavorful also. If you want a review for taste this cafe delivered. We normally don't get desert but decided it was well worth it. 2 solids dishes gets a 5 star review. We were frequent weekly dinner and lunch customers. However, price increases and reduced portion size have caused us to move on. The chicken fried steak is a great example less than a lunch portion priced at a plate size portion. They now mix the cornbread fried items in the same oil as the flour breaded. This makes the chicken taste like fish. It has ruined a great salad. read more

I started going to Classic when I was pregnant with my now 28 1/2 year old daughter. I was forced to eat Liver and Onions due to my condition, and now I have a hard time ordering anything else when I go there! If you can make Liver and Onions a favorite you are doing something right! Everything about our visit today went just right. We found a parking spot even though we got there right at 10 when we had planned to try to be there a bit earlier to beat the brunch rush and those hung over from too much green beer. We were seated right away at a table for 2 even though it was busy. The guy who seated us also made sure tables were cleared so he could keep seating people. Our server came right away and brought our drinks quickly. Super impressed they give a water sized glass of orange juice instead of the little glass you get at so many other restaurants! It's also smart to use those big glasses they do because we had a hard time finishing one drink in the time we were there and didn't need a refill! The food came out quickly and was "right off the grill" hot. My husband was oohing and aahing about his Eggs Benedict over crab cake and even let me have a taste so I could tell Yelp how delicious it is! That's a first, folks!! I think my Yelping is growing on him! My Belgian waffle was perfect, as were my sunny side up eggs and sausage patties. My husband liked his meal so much, he noticed the guy across from us got a different type of Eggs Benedict and asked him which one he got because he's already planning to come back. He told me as we were finishing up that he thinks he's found his new favorite breakfast place. And I should explain that my husband does most of what he calls "the real cooking" around our house because he's pickier than I am about everything he eats. Been a customer since it opened. Two lunches recently. A gumbo not fit for the dog's bowl. Second visit tried shrimp salad. All canned shrimp in a ranch type dressing topped with a pretty peeled boiled shrimp. Fooling nobody. Breakfasts may be a better bet. Hiring some actual cooks would be better. read more

I have since tried ordering it at two Cajun restaurants in Austin and attempted to duplicate what you do at home. No success. No one makes this dish as well as Seabrook Cafe. I wish they did because I could enjoy it more often without the commute and hotel cost. And the yucca fries. OMG! Crispy on the outside and tender within. Went to Seabrook Cafe Sunday Jan 29, 2017, for breakfast the first time. My cousin is a local and suggested it. Wow what a great choice. The food was delicious. Beware portions are on the bug side so you can probably share and leave room for fresh homemade pie or biegnets. Unfortunately I didnt snap any photos of our food orders. I had the San Antonio omlette and wife had the Eggs Monique which was crabcake and a poached egg. All very tasty. Restaurant staff all very friendly and attentive. Theyre always moving and on the go. Great food, good service at reasonable prices, my NASA buddies and I come here every other Friday and I always get the special, fried or blackened snapper with fries and slaw, it's great. If I come at other times I get a chicken fried steak with smashed taters and okra, asparagus or squash or I might get the house salad with their outstanding home-made Bleu Cheese dressing and a bowl of gumbo. The gumbo is awesome. I've been coming here off and on since before Alicia, (over 30 years) and it's always been very good and they update the menu with new dishes, every so often. I moved from Seabrook nearly two years ago, and can say honestly that one of the few places I miss - and miss SORELY - is Seabrook Classic. While most of the food is just so-so - or perhaps just a notch above average - and many of the dishes are priced comparably to those in fine restaurants, the Classic still has some amazing food and amazing values. A seasonal special, the crawfish enchilada plate is well-seasoned and affordably priced. And the spicy, savory Benson is my favorite burger of all times: spiked with Worchestershire, cooked to preferred doneness, topped with pickled jalapenos and slathered with horseradish. I order mine on a wheat bun, jalas on the side (otherwise, the bun tends to get mushy), and opt for the sauteed veggies - squash, peppers, onion, garlic, and carrots - in lieu of french fries. This, too, is an economical choice - especially considering the fact that it's enough food for two meals! The coconut cream pie is not the best I've ever had, but is nevertheless pretty darned good: the filling is dense and coconutty (with a slight hint of almond); meringue is sky-high and sprinkled with slivered, toasted almonds. Ambience? Uh, no. But the waitstaff is very friendly and attentive, and - as I indicated - the Classic does have SOME outstanding food at outstanding prices! read more
