I was eating at another restaurant the other day and saw they had Chilean Seabass on the menu and really wanted it however here they had it for less than half that price and knew it would probably be better and so I waited and came here. I ordered to go the lunch portion (at dinner time. Yes you can!) of the Seabass and rice pilaf. When I arrived at the store I saw they had to take home Clams Casino, six for only $7.50, so I did that. The clams were fantastic and the Seabass could not have been cooked more perfectly. I was very excited to finally try this place, but it was not as great as everyone hyped it up to be. The lobster bisque was good and what I thought was really, really, really good was the fried calamari. My nephew was with us and he really enjoyed his steamed lobster, so maybe it's technically 3 delicious things we tried there. And, our waitress was super nice and attentive. However, the other food we ordered were not bad, but not good. It lacked flavor and salt. Everything was bland. We ordered the following. - hot antipasto for 2 (stuffed mushrooms, stuffed clams, scallops wrapped in bacon, fried calamari, and stuffed shrimp) - I loved the calamari and the scallops wrapped in bacon and the rest was just ok -broiled fresh catch combo (shrimp, scallop, fillet) - I strongly regret getting this -chicken parmigiana - the serving was huge -the special of the day - soft shell crab -steamed clams - we were given warm water/clam juice to rinse the clams before dipping them in butter, but even with intense rinsing, there was so much sand, so we couldn't eat it anymore. Sorry, this was a no for me. Maybe if I do go back, I'll have to try something else that will definitely be good or maybe there will be more salt and flavor to their food. Tips; - Parking is free in the area, but there are usually limits, such as one hour parking. - I highly recommend making a reservation because the dining area is very small and tight. This place was always on my list to visit and I finally got to it this past Saturday for lunch. Tucked in the back of a Seafood Deli, it kinda gives an old school Italian joint. There was no wait as we got there a little before 4pm, just in time before they switched to Dinner menu pricing. We started off with a New England Chowder and a lobster bisque- both were amazing and I could've had another lobster bisque if i could! After that was the mixed seafood Salad, mixed greens with Shrimp calamari For main entrees we ordered the Fried Clam strips which was ok but was definitely overshadowed by the Grilled Halibut which was very yummy! It doesn't get much simpler to grill scallops and make a salmon wrap. Been here several times & was always good- certainly not gourmet, but reliably good. I'm hoping this was just a bad day but I'm leaning towards not. The scallops were pure white - no browning, grill marks, or caramelization which scallops are when cooked properly. Not only were they not grilled but they were over cooked. Decent sized portion, but scallops were all different sizes. As stated, they were pure white with a sprinkling of spices which you'd never know by taste. Bland! Salmon wrap was fair- not over cooked but not tasty. My wife and I took a friend for their birthday to the restaurant, which we have frequent in the past. We spent over $250 on our dinner and when it came to desert, my wife asked for a slight change in the desert and the waitress said that she could not do that. The change was instead of 2 scoops of the same flavor, my wife asked for one of each. As small as this may be, she was very adament not to comply to the point of being insulting to my wife and responding what do want for $6 . When we informed another employee that we suspected was the manager of the store, as to the situation and he was extremely indifferent almost argumentative. Went to check out this place when I was in the area, on a Saturday night after a few recommendations. The staff people the counter was so nice and helpful, answered all my questions. I mentioned to the girl taking my order it was my first time there, I placed my order and while I waited she handed me a couple samples of the different seafood salads they had prepared. So nice! The fish looked fresh and I believe everything was wild, which is fantastic. 1. The fish and chips, I took the risk of ordering this to go knowing my the time I got home it would be soggy/soft, and it was but my fault! Didn't matter, it was still very good. Thin batter, thick piece of thick white fish. Fries stayed crispy and good. I find it hard to get good tartar sauce but they definitely make their own, and it's delicious. 2. Clam chowder, something was missing from it. I don't know what it was but it wasn't bad, just needed something that I couldn't put my finger on. 3. I didn't even touch my salad, I definitely over ordered but the dressing looked homemade and I have a feeling it will be delicious tomorrow. They also put in a cocktail sauce for me to try and, it was fantastic! Good tartar and cocktail sauce are hard to find and both of these were an A+ for me. Was in the area and was highly recommend. It was dinner time to I decided to do a takeout order. I called ahead for a lobster roll that would be ready in 10 minutes, it really only took 5. It came warm so I was really excited. Would recommend paying cash as they do charge the 3% credit card fee which wasn't disclosed when I asked if cash or credit was better but it wasn't a big deal. It ended up being $30. Getting into the sandwich, then bread was buttery and toasted with huge chunks of lobster stuffed in it. I should have mentioned that I would have preferred Maine style (butter) vs. Connecticut style (mayo) but honestly the Connecticut style was not bad at all and I'm usually not a huge mayo person. It wasn't drowning in the mayo or too overwhelming and the finely chopped celery added a nice subtle crunch, again not too overpowering. Totally worth the money in my opinion. I would definitely come back here to try the other items on the menu or even to pick up some fresh fish for cooking. read more
