I want to start out by stating prior to my last order, I enjoyed the food. My last order was so awful it's taken me a few weeks to even mention it because of my disgust. The thing is a restaurant should care about every single plate they put out - so when a restaurant dishes a take out order they know is subpar - I lose respect. I got there early in the day around 11am, ordered takeout of 2 sides roast potatoes and sautéed garlic. What I received was boiled potatoes that obviously had sat in water too long and became water logged. The spinach didn't even have fresh garlic slivers which is the main feature along with the olive oil. A friend of my husband recommended this place and he kept asking every time he saw him if he'd been there yet, so I said let's go! I needed to see what this place was about. Tucked away at the back of a fish/seafood market is a little restaurant and we were sat right away. We noticed a lot of elderly couples eat here which let us know this place is cheap and serves plenty of food. That was definitely the case when we ordered a calamari appetizer, a mixed seafood salad appetizer, 1/2 shrimp Parm sandwich with lobster bisque and a broiled scallop entrée with Manhattan clam chowder. A friend of min told me about this place, and asked me to keep it a secret. So we decided to go for a late lunch on a Saturday. Located in a small strip of stores, it's a fish market in front, and restaurant in the back. Menu is big, but the prices are relatively inexpensive for today's times, so we turned our late day lunch into our one meal of the day. Two Soups; Lobster Bisque & Manhattan Clam Chowder were both excellent. Lightly Fried Calamari App was plentiful with a good mix of body and tentacle pieces. The Cold Seafood Salad had a lot of Shrimp, Octopus and Squid. Served with a light dressing. The half Shrimp Parmigiana Sandwich was good, but taking it off the bun and eating it as a platter was a better idea. My Sea Scallops were ok. A little overcooked, and could have used a drizzle of lemon butter. Luckily, there were some butters left over from the complimentary bread basket. I was eating at another restaurant the other day and saw they had Chilean Seabass on the menu and really wanted it however here they had it for less than half that price and knew it would probably be better and so I waited and came here. I ordered to go the lunch portion (at dinner time. Yes you can!) of the Seabass and rice pilaf. When I arrived at the store I saw they had to take home Clams Casino, six for only $7.50, so I did that. The clams were fantastic and the Seabass could not have been cooked more perfectly. We ordered the following. - hot antipasto for 2 (stuffed mushrooms, stuffed clams, scallops wrapped in bacon, fried calamari, and stuffed shrimp) - I loved the calamari and the scallops wrapped in bacon and the rest was just ok -broiled fresh catch combo (shrimp, scallop, fillet) - I strongly regret getting this -chicken parmigiana - the serving was huge -the special of the day - soft shell crab -steamed clams - we were given warm water/clam juice to rinse the clams before dipping them in butter, but even with intense rinsing, there was so much sand, so we couldn't eat it anymore. Sorry, this was a no for me. Maybe if I do go back, I'll have to try something else that will definitely be good or maybe there will be more salt and flavor to their food. Tips; - Parking is free in the area, but there are usually limits, such as one hour parking. - I highly recommend making a reservation because the dining area is very small and tight. There was no wait as we got there a little before 4pm, just in time before they switched to Dinner menu pricing. It doesn't get much simpler to grill scallops and make a salmon wrap. Been here several times & was always good- certainly not gourmet, but reliably good. I'm hoping this was just a bad day but I'm leaning towards not. The scallops were pure white - no browning, grill marks, or caramelization which scallops are when cooked properly. Not only were they not grilled but they were over cooked. Decent sized portion, but scallops were all different sizes. As stated, they were pure white with a sprinkling of spices which you'd never know by taste. Bland! Salmon wrap was fair- not over cooked but not tasty. We spent over $250 on our dinner and when it came to desert, my wife asked for a slight change in the desert and the waitress said that she could not do that. The change was instead of 2 scoops of the same flavor, my wife asked for one of each. As small as this may be, she was very adament not to comply to the point of being insulting to my wife and responding what do want for $6 . When we informed another employee that we suspected was the manager of the store, as to the situation and he was extremely indifferent almost argumentative.
