But if what you really want is just some classic diner food served up in a casual joint in the wee hours of the morning, well then come on in to Seaplane and grab a seat! In my book, there is not much that is better than cozying up in a booth with friends enjoying some breakfast comfort foods while you rehash the stories of the night and ponder life's great existential questions. The food was good and pretty standard for a diner (just what I wanted), the service was just slow enough that you had time to really get in to the meat of your conversations and extend your night to hit that sweet spot, and the atmosphere was only enhanced by the eclectic mix of patrons. There is nowhere better for people watching than a late-night diner, except for maybe a Wal-Mart or state fair. That being said, the other patrons were probably thinking the exact same thing about my group. But, seriously, you are at a diner feasting on breakfast foods so who cares! I was all set to get pissy about this place when the only vegetarian options for lunch were the eggplant parmesan sandwich and a grilled cheese, and they said they couldn't do omlettes for us because the griddle was too crowded. And then my husband and I ordered two eggplant parmesan sandwiches and were instantly in heaven. They were easily the best I've ever had in my life, or at least the best I've had since Mama Falco's in Chicago closed (I used to go there all the time). It was so good that I wanted Chicago-style giardiniera with it, but made do with a few banana pepper rings. We also tried the french fries and the pasta salad as sides, and both were delicious. I was surprised at the quality of the pasta salad, which wasn't mushy or swimming in dressing, and which had some really nice vegetables with it. Service was speedy and with a smile, and even after sharing our lunches with our son, we still had leftovers. We've been back a couple of times, and we got the chance to sample the excellent fish & chips for a Friday lunch, and came once for Sunday breakfast and loved the stuffed French toast with fruit. read more

The Seaplane is an old airstream trailer style diner with simple, basic diner food that is both unpretentious and unironic. Burgers, sandwiches, bacon and eggs, all that sort of thing. The Seaplane is one of the few places that has not gotten on the fancy brunch bandwagon with tons of specials on the weekends. As such, it tends not to draw the foodie/hipster crowd as much as it does the strip-club patron/city worker demographic appropriate to it's location on Allens Ave. It's open overnight on weekends so it gets crowded around the time the bars close, especially with the aforementioned strip club patrons. I made the trek down here Saturday morning and found the place nearly full at 7:30 a.m. That's a good sign,I figured,the food must be pretty good inside.Only a couple of vacant seats so,I grabbed one at the counter. Just two waitresses were handling the whole crowd and so the service was understandably slow.Finally got a cup of coffee and ordered off the menu.They have some of the best coffee I've had anywhere in here. Very good.When my meal finally arrived,It looked great and there was plenty of it too.This place was jammed but my waitress really did her best to keep everyone happy.I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast and chatting with my waitress (when she could spare a moment).Solid diner experience here and I would come back again in the future. read more

I'll be darned...I thought that this was going to be a total flop, but I was 100% wrong. The menu is pretty much standard-diner fare, but there were a few things that made it stand out from other diner experiences. 1) the coffee is stronger than coffee-colored water 2) the home fries are awesome and have a kick. yum! 3) the coffee bun was super delicious (and huge. fed the whole table). 4) staff was efficient. It's a diner, folks, not twin oaks. In summary. If you want a place with local character and a diner feel, give it a try. If your idea of breakfast is somewhat more luxurious, and you want a more high-touch experience with plenty of customized options, it may not be your cup of coffee. read more

Solid. That's probably the best description I can give for this place, which claims to be nothing more than it is and delivers exactly as it promises. It's your classic diner, replete with dining table jukebox. Very reasonable prices and good service. Had the Hungryman Special for breakfast (served til 1130, we got our order in at 1125); $5.95 for 4 butter toast halves, 2 full-sized fluffy pancakes (choice of banana, chocolate, or blueberry), 3 eggs, 3 links of sausage (choice of breakfast vs linguica), and home fries. A solid meal. Very filling. Pancakes were done well, moist and fluffy. Blueberries were fresh, not frozen. Home fries had a nice skillet crust. Linguica was spicy sweet. Coffee was refilled as needed and our waitress offered to provide separate checks for our table of 3. Very courteous and attentive, at least more than I expected to get at an old-world diner type establishment. All in all a good morning had here. read more

I've been here several times with my friends and we love coming here for a good breakfast! The food is delicious and always consistent. The staff is friendly and pleasing but they run around looking like chickens with no head. They should definitely hire another waitress or someone to only manage the counter. With Seaplane Diner, I feel I should, though, because I've been to this place more than once. Lunch and weekend Brunch. Comparing the two experiences, here's my take: At lunch, get ready to sit by the counter if you are really hungry and the place is hopping. Try to avoid 12NN-1245PM. I ordered Linguica and Eggs from the breakfast menu for lunch-- I skipped breakfast that day (don't judge -- haha). Replaced with egg whites and the cooks were cool with it. Expectedly, the breakfast was good. As I sat on the counter, in front of the kitchen door, heaping, hot plates of aromatic lunch orders whizzed past so I decided to order to-go!. Here's where the kicker was. I asked for the special-- a fish dish. Surprised to be asked if I wanted mashed potatoes but hey, why not? Sure enough, when I got home, I found a meat dish instead. SMH. Good food but not good on accuracy. Now on to brunch. Lined up for a long time by the door with other diners. Thought a server will ask us or at least let us know when a table is freed up. No one did. Not just for us but for the 3 groups at the door. We simply helped ourselves in as we saw tables clearing. Apparently, you can just walk in and sit at the counter if there was space. I don't think this place is above signage that states that, especially as they still get NEW customers from referrals. Server was polite. Breakfast was A-OK. Overall, good food, simply presented, nothing remarkable but reliably not without flavor. Refillable coffee is not bland, either. Unarguably, this is a landmark in RI but could use a revisit of basic customer service and operations management especially when there is a crowd outside. I've drove by this place thousands of times and have always wanted to try it and the other day, I finally did just that! First of all, what a cool old school diner! I love the old feel to it! I felt like I stepped back in time or onto a movie set. My other half made it just in time to get breakfast (before noon) and I was able to get lunch. Its your typical diner food - no frills, straight to the point, stick to your bones kinda food! Both our meals hit the spot. This place seemed to do a lot of business just as we were leaving (around 1pm) but it's surprising how many seats this little place fits! I'll come back again! read more

Came here for that classic diner experience, not caring too much about the food or service quality. We usually go to the Liberty Elm diner, which is now closed, so we came to the closest diner. My breakfast sandwich and my friends buffalo chicken sandwich were excellent. And our waitress, Tori, was an absolute gem. She was extremely personable and stopped by our booth to check on us regularly. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a nice diner in the area. read more

I loveeeeeeeeeee Seaplane. The place isn't fancy, it's a diner. What more do you want when you're going to breakfast? There's limited seating, but it's WELL worth waiting. The prices are perfect and affordable and the food is to die for! There's nothing I enjoy than breakfast. Whether it's early morning, mid-afternoon or late night--I want it. Seaplane has offered breakfast every time I've been there--although I'm not sure if it's served all day. I had 2 eggs, 2 huge pancakes, cinnamon raisin toast, 3 sausage and homefries for 5.95. My husband had a side of coleslaw, clam chowder, and oj. Our total bill was $12.03 and we were in and out of there in less than 20 minutes, but I didn't feel rushed one bit. read more

The hidden gem of diners! Being new to town the fiancé and I had to follow the GPS prompts to Seaplane. We're from Philly so we've seen a couple of shady areas but I did get a bit nervous as the GPS led us through a couple of dingy streets and abandoned looking buildings. We found Seaplane between a bunch of strip--*ahem* gentlemen's clubs. I LOVE the Seaplane Diner. The cooks easily accommodate the fiancé's complicated, picky, and weird requests (Annoying! I just tell him to shut up, nut up and eat his breakfast burrito.) Nevertheless, he enjoys the food as well. The oreo pancakes and the french toast are scrumdiddlyumptious. Waitress Roberta is a total sweetheart and she seems to know and like everyone there. It can get a little loud in there but the majority seem to be regulars and really nice. They get busy on the weekend so we like to go during the week. However, I wake up really late & then I take about 2 hours to look presentable so it's not easy for me to make it in time to enjoy the Seaplane Diner. read more

Super cheap and large portions. A lot of things on the menu, some stuff looks better than others. I'm docking one point for the super small glasses (8floz i think) chock full of ice. I'm a big gulper so each glass of coke was only one sip to me and the waitress didn't come around. So I was needing more soda less than halfway through my meal but I just never got any, so that sucked. I got the saugys and they were undercooked so they weren't really good. My senior Aunt and I were in Providence for an appointment last week and wanted to catch a quick bite before hitting the highway home. The map program on my phone suggested Seaplane Diner and we're SO thankful! What a wonderful spot, hidden away on this back road! The building is classic, and the plane atop is priceless. Then you go inside and the atmosphere throws you back in time. Our server was lovely, friendly, attentive and efficient. And the food - spot on. I had chocolate chip pancakes. My Aunt got eggs with home fries and toast. Now - let me tell you - she is picky about her eggs! 96-years-old and she knows what she likes. She couldn't finish the meal, but there was literally no sign of the eggs anywhere on the plate. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stop to the Diner, and I can guarantee we'll be back the next time we're in town! read more

Parking can be tough. We ended up parking on the main road. I've been here before on a separate time. After a night of dancing and drinking downtown, of course, you're gonna get hungry. The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is because of the service and the food. First we sat at the bar, near the register the place was PACKED at 10 AM on a Thursday morning. Some people left a 4 top the server cleaned it off and asked us if we wanted to move. Of course we did. Our server was great, attentive, friendly, well mannered, everything you could want in a server for a diner. I had egg, cheese, bacon on a bagel - divine, just like I used to get in NY. The only issue I have is cleanliness. Our table was wiped down with a disgusting rag... the table was left wet, there was junk, trash, food on the floor.... The Seaplane diner provides your standard greasy spoon atmosphere and food. A great spot for after the bars, or early morning. Close to the Port of Providence and a nice view of the scrap metal yard. Close to local porn shops as well... But. don't really let that dissuade you. The food is good. read more

I always stop here with a buddy from work to get breakfast. For $3.75 you get two eggs, two slices of toast, a mound of crispy homefries, and coffee. The waitresses are awesome and the cooks are incredibly fast. I've never gotten anything else here but am told by a friend that the lunches are filling and delicious. read more

I can only speak for the fish and chips -- delish! Perfectly crispy- the batter on the outside is good and the fish tastes fresh. The fries are average but extra crispy the way I like them.
