Highly highly recommend this place. The candy bin at the entrance is a very nice touch too and the green tea soft serve is to die for :))))) Service has been pretty varrying when I go. When it's busy the service is pretty bad but when it's not it's just ok. Not much of an issue since I just keep the plates to the side. But overall the food makes up for it. Went Friday night. Like others said, several years ago this place was good. All hot food was cold and old. The poke stuff was ok and the part where they cook your food was okay. Business going to end soon. Simple solution would be to put out 1/3 amount of hot food and keep it hot even if it means getting rid of old food. So silly. Went to a place on a saturday. It was really packed but service was still fast. Plates never flowed up all crazy. Servers took real good care of us. The cons outweighted more then the pros. The cons were that the dim sum tastes way to old. Crab legs didnt look fresh and tasted watery. There was no aboundance of crab legs. Wasn't much of good food items. I tried the bbq station and got lamb, but never able to get seconds. The roast beef looked dryer then a 80 year old womens flower. Didnt dry the noodle section because thats how they trick you into getting full. There were a couple of pros. The coconut shrimp was good, seemed nice and fresh because it seemed to be gone fast. The fried calamari was good but thats hard to mess up. I really enjoyed the shasmi salmon. Im ususally scared of eating raw fish in ayce because the fear of food poisoning. I used a lot of ginger, soy sauce and sirracha made it delsih. Strawberry yogurt ice cream is fire. Overal i might come back. Price is steep. Could go to barona and go ham on the crab legs. For the price ($12 or $11 with the $1 coupon that comes in the local mail), the lunch buffet was okay, but I've been to better Asian buffets over the years. Oddly, my favorite part of this buffet was the prepared hot dishes and not the freshly made food. The Mongolian grill was lacking in ingredient choices. I wanted just plain steak and instead it was filled with random items that didn't look appealing to me. I ended up going with chicken and pineapple with noodles and it was very bland. Unlike other Mongolian grills that I've been to where you put sauce on your noodles, this spot didn't have anything to put on but I noticed that the grill chef seemed to have access to a few bottles of sauce but never asked what we'd like on it. I found the fresh soup area to be confusing. There were four options listed on the menu but no details about the soups. I had to ask what they were and what type of broth and other ingredients were in it as I don't eat pork. The problem was that the soup man didn't seem to speak English and I had to wait for one of the waitresses to come over to explain the process to me. In the end, I skipped the fresh soup bar and moved to the prepared soups. I'm obsessed with egg drop soup and it was delicious here. I had two cups and strongly thought about going back for a third. Some of the things that I did like were the make your own s'mores bar and the chocolate fountain for dipping fruit. Both were unique touches that I hadn't seen at other buffets. Sadly, the cotton candy machine wasn't working on my visit. I did, however, love the Thai iced tea soft serve! My favorite dessert was the banana cream pudding but that's also my all-time ever favorite. I'm curious to see how much their lunch and dinner buffets differ but am also hesitant to spend $20 for a meal when I'm a light eater and don't eat a lot of seafood or other items that typically make the price go up. She liked the variety of choices and seeing the family eat till we got full. I always looked forward to the mongolian grill. The big family get togethers have gotten fewer are far between without her. This has been my first time back since she went with us. Inside has been remodeled. Looks really nice. I try the teppanyaki first. Looks like the meat choices have been elevated with the replacement of the mongolian grill. There are cuts of steak waiting and the shrimp are bigger. Use to have slices of frozen meats. Overall my noodle dish was pretty good. Noodles, mushrooms, broccoli, bean sprouts, steak, and shrimp had very good flavor. The only cons were the steak was a bit tough and there is no pork or lamb option. I sampled other dishes. Beef short rib was tender but I didn't like the marinade used. French steak was tender and had delicious flavor from the peppers and secret marinade. Fried chicken wings had pretty good flavor but lacked crunch. Pork ribs were tender and had delicious flavor. Prime rib was a bit rough to chew and could use more flavor. Drummette was the one at the end of the skewer and a bit dry. Flavor was ok. Pineapple ranged from tart to sweet depending on how good you are at picking sweet pieces. Watermelon seemed not quite ripe. Flavor ranged from sweet to bland depending on the piece. Jello was very good. Fresh and sweet. The dessert case was refrigerated at a low temp. Apple pie was colder than I'm use to. Flavor was pretty good. Sweetness was about what I like and the pastry had a light flavor. Coconut jello had firm jello texture and good coconut flavor. Mango pudding had texture like medium firm jello and had a sweet mango flavor that was good. I'm glad the jello and pudding are cold but I hope they make the pastries daily and don't rely on the refrigeration to keep them fresh. Creme brulee had a crunchy top and had very good flavor. Vanilla soft serve was good. Texture was more icy than Dairy Queen. Next time I think I'll start with the teppanyaki grill and add different meats. The food isn't great but it is among the best Chinese buffets I've tried in San Diego. 3.5 stars. Visited for lunch. read more

Three stars for the vast amount of AYCE items you can choose from and four stars for the hard working staff here at Seaside Buffet. I didn't know the weekend prices but was shocked at the $19.88 price. The hostess said it's the same price all day (there's no lunch or dinner difference in prices). I knew there was no way I could eat $19.88 worth of food after a work out but friend wanted to try Seaside Buffet nonetheless. Seaside Buffet is huge. They have a wider selection than Savory Buffet just West of Miramar. They have sushi, sashimi, crab legs (cold and hot), oysters, Mongolian bbq station, Beijing duck, huge dessert selection, dim sum, carving station, skewers, and so much more. Highlights: - Mongolian bbq: You pick and choose what you want for your Mongolian stir fry and the gentleman prepares it right in front of you. The beef and chicken were stir fried to order and tasted fresh, well seasoned, well sauced. - Chicken wings: crispy, well seasoned, and juicy - sushi variety: lots of rolls to choose from and a decent selection of nigiri - hot & sour soup: decent with egg, mushrooms, tofu. You can garnish the soup with as much fresh green onions as you'd like - mustard greens: sauteed nicely with garlic and salt - black mushrooms: tender and stir fried well - salt pepper crab: try to get these when they're freshly fried otherwise not so good - chocolate fountain produces a hard chocolate shell on the marshmallow and strawberry! Minuses: - oysters didn't taste fresh - Noodle soup station didn't have much variety and the broth was too light - sauteed clams were mediocre (needed more seasoning and a stronger sauce) - Korean short ribs were mostly fat and bones - Beijing duck was dry (but the presentation of the duck meat and bun was nicely done) ** TIP: watch staff bring out metal bowls and get up to see what's being put out since those bowls contain freshly made items ** Service was attentive as our plates were cleared often. The staff works hard here but they also seem like robots going through the motions. It was nice to finally try out Seaside Buffet but I personally prefer Savory Buffet for an AYCE lunch. Yet another change in management, yet another name change from East Buffet to Seaside Buffet... but to my surprise, things have actually changed a bit for the better! We came here this past Wednesday to celebrate my birthday and were immediately struck by the physical changes to the place. While the koi pond and turtles are sadly gone from the entrance, the majority of the booths have been replaced by tables that grouped around the middle of the room. The steam tables - and the new teppanyaki grill and Brazilian BBQ - are placed around the sides of the main dining area, leading the restaurant to feel more spacious and easier to walk around. In terms of the food - the sushi rolls weren't that bad, and while I can see some concerns about the protein selections of the teppanyaki grill (especially if they've been out for a while), I didn't get sick from the shrimp and beef I had chosen for my noodles. So, yay...? While the cannolis in the dessert bar were very disappointing, the mango mousse cake was simply delicious. Service was pretty competent, though it took a while to get our drinks refilled. And speaking of the drinks - yes, they weren't as flat as we've had them before at Seaside Buffet's predecessors... but would it kill the management to have a self-serve soda fountain available? I'd like to come back to try the Brazilian BBQ, and the shark fin soup (which I hope came from sustainably harvested sharks), so for now it appears that Seaside Grill has redeemed itself. read more

Weekend buffet for $19.99?! Yeah, ok!! Especially if that buffet has King crab legs, fresh shucked oysters on the half shell, thick slices of fresh sashimi and more!! Stopped in on a Sunday, rainy afternoon and was promptly seated. Drink orders were taken and I was up and running! Plate 1 was full of sushi....at least 10-15 different rolls and 3 hand rolls made to order.!!! Also thick slices of sashimi made my day...no skimping here like most buffets which usually offer razor thin slices of fish. King crab was abundant both in the steamed trays and the cold trays. Lots of shrimp dishes, crawfish, clams and oysters. Plate 2 was dedicated to asian treats like dumplings, potstickers, and buns filled with delectable surprises!! Plate 3 was a hodge pudge of goodness. Salt and pepper frog legs, chicken wings, coconut shrimp, asian beef, bacon wrapped chicken. Even a little bit from the Brazilian churrasco offerings! By now I was stuffed but dessert called. The offering here were all good. Mini Apple pies, cherry pies, custards, frozen yogurt, soft serve icecream, cookies, asian bean filled buns, mini cannoli, cheesecake, flan, little various cake and brûlée. Best of all they had a chocolate fountain with fruits and marshmallows to cover. And for the kids a make your own cotton candy machine!! The wait staff were fairly quick in clearing your empty plates. They have a coupon out there for a 10% discount...if you are lucky enough to get one in the mail. The food areas are clean and food is restocked quickly. The only area that was a tad slow to replenish was the sushi area but then again, they were offering up some great rolls which go fast. Disclaimer: We went about two hours before closing time on a weekday so it may diminish the credibility of the review hence four stars. A great local spot if you're hungry, with nice staff members and no wait time. The place is really empty but there were several tables filled (half of the main dining area) filled with customers eating. There was another dining area in the back but I'm not sure if it's for extra tables or it's just not in use due to the lack of customers. First impressions are nice. A chocolate fountain on the side, lights hanging everywhere, and a clean restaurant. In the restaurant there's lots you can choose from. My personal favorite was their Terriyaki Chicken and their Egg Custard Bao Bun. However, due to the lack of customers eating the food, the leftovers would become overcooked, leading to a hard crunchy bao, which the dough paper was super challenging to take off since it stuck on there for a long time. The desserts were okay, I got Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream with chocolate strawberries from the choclate fountain. For starters, the ice cream was okay, it was bland, and had little no "strawberry cheesecake" flavor. Either that or my palates weren't working. The chcolate fountain experience was also alright, but I wish they had an iced water container so we could freeze the chocolate to prevent excessive dripping.​ The reason however I gave it four stars was the service. I really loved how often the waiter consistently got empty plates and refilled our drinks. In my opinion, the service was the best for me. Overall Seaside Buffet is great, but as someone who only went a couple of hours before closing time, I would recommend going during the times when there's actually being food made (I mean, this goes the same for all buffets) In total, great service, great food, I would definitely go again. read more

I saw quite many bad reviews in the past few months but still decided to try it out for Friday's dinner (used to be very good a couple of years ago). Wow. All the bad reviews are really true! There were only a few tables seated in Friday evening (6:30 PM). Most hot food trays were less than half full and looked dry because the food was out there for a long time. The soup was nearly dried out. Very few selections for sushi. The meatloaf (yeah, not prime rib, not even ham....) on the chef's cutting board doesn't look like real because no one wants to "touch" it. Why still use paper plates? I do like to give the credit on the freshness of the crab leg (it's too salty though). Anyway, it looks like that the owner has already given up this restaurant. A little something for everyone here. Next time I go it'll have to be while I'm hungrier than I was but the food I did try was quite good. Place was clean, staff was nice, you're definitely getting your money's worth here. The one down side for me was that there wasn't really a natural flow to where food was placed at the stations and some food signs were clearly not in the right places or just weren't there at all. Was quite surprised by this place the first time we went. We have now been here 3 times, an can't wait for quarantine to be to go back. If you go there there is a coupon for 2 bucks off but you have to print it and also if you are in the military you get 10 per off but make sure to show your if Id in the beginning. The staff is nice always clearing the plates and also getting you drinks that cost 1.95 extra, but if you check in you get a free soda. This is probably as good as it gets when it comes to Asian buffets. Huge selection of Asian items intermingled with some western dishes. My personal favorites here are the coconut shrimp, egg drop soup, and green tea soft serve ice cream. I can load up on plates and bowls of these and be set for the rest of the day! They're that good. My parents love the seafood here because come on, it doesn't get better than $20 for all you can eat crab and oysters. We haven't had the runs from the seafood here yet! The Mongolian stir fry station and noodle soup making station are cool to have but lack in depth, they just taste salty. Parking is plentiful. Sucks that you have to pay for soft drinks (free refills) being that most buffets include soft drinks with the set price. I would give it 4 stars easily for the value and big selection but most of the hot items tasted room temperature which was unsatisfactory.
