Years ago I left an unfavorable review after getting extremely ill eating here. On my recent return trip ( it's hard to find a buffet anymore ) I was pleasantly surprised. Everything about the layout has been redesigned, and that made me think maybe there was new management. I was a bit concerned that on the weekend there's no "lunch" they just start charging dinner prices at 11am but that's also the standard for some buffets so you just have to go along with it. All of that having been said, the food was good and the service exceeded any other buffet I've been to. I was completely surprised. This place was a good buffet choice years ago but not anymore. The Sushi's were not good at all , they were chewy, old, smells awful , the worst buffet in general, did not like any item and they were leftovers. They use excessive vegetable oil to instead of butter on the items that supposed to be cooked from butter. I will definitely not go there and won't recommend. read more

This place still has a good selection of food in my opinion. Unfortunately, the taste and quality did not meet my expectations as it used to. To top it off, cleanliness still seems to be an issue at this restaurant. I lost my appetite the moment they served me a cup of water with gunk on the rim. I told my server about it and he looks to be confused. I told him that my cup was dirty and that I need a new cup. He kept trying to clarify if I was complaining about the ice in my cup. I even pointed to the gunk and said it was dirty. He finally just nodded like he understood, took my cup, and never came back with my water. My husband ended up having to ask him again for me. A few years ago, I wrote a review addressing the dirty plates. Guess what? I saw two plates with stuff on it. I saw this all the way from my table. Seaside Buffet is a place that you typically take your family for a graduation party, a nice Saturday night out with the family, or if you're craving for seafood overall. I've been going here since I was 12 (ten years now) and over the course of time they've changed the name of the restaurant and the owners. The quality of the food has down graded since then, but their variety for seafood/Asian food is the best. I do consider this place as one of the best buffets in San Diego (besides casino buffets). They have crawfish & mussels are my favorite. 4/5 stars, only for the quality of the food since then, but overall a great review because of variety to choose from! read more

Very delicious buffet, has an assortment of delicious dishes (was looking for a Chinese buffet and this one takes the cake) . My mom also enjoyed the service and the workers were very kind and polite. The quality is also very good and many options (will have to return another time to try them all out). I've been coming here for years! The interior decor has improved so much! The service has always been good, considering it is a buffet lol the food is always good. So many options too, including stir fry! It may not be the best quality food out there but it's tasty & exactly what I'm expecting! The crab legs are typically gone within seconds. The food was mediocre at best in the stack of plates. Many of them were dirty. You had food particles Adam, two out of four of us had food on our utensils had to order new ones constantly had to ask for more napkins. They only give you a few constantly looking for, a worker to help us as the restaurant was nearly empty probably less than 20 people in the whole place. This buffet used to be a similar kind of buffet before, but I like this one a little more. I love that there so many food stations to choose from! There was a teppanyaki grill, noodle station, chocolate fountain, as well as your typical, Chinese food, sushi items, dim sum options, oysters, crawfish, shrimp, and plenty of desserts and fruits to eat. They even have a full bar, but I didn't try anything from there. I also like that they have a station of utensils with specialty sauces to choose from. I enjoyed my noodle dish from the teppanyaki grill since I was able to add lots of beef and shrimp. The other items I tried were pretty good too, but nothing really stood out. For dessert, I had the matcha frozen yogurt and it was quite tasty. The chocolate fountain was pretty cool too, but a little messy. Since I came here for a baptismal celebration, we had a large area reserved. The service was very organized- each person was given a sticker with a number on it, to account for all the people in our party. I was amazed at how quickly they replenish a dish when they run out of it. Not a bad place to eat if you have a large party of picky eaters. 3 to 3.5 stars My scoring range for a buffet is always lower than a normal restaurant because a buffet is always a quantity over quality exercise. Like most buffets this place has its pros and cons. Pros: they have plenty of seafood; shrimp, crab, fish, sashimi, sushi. A cooked-to-order noodle bar. Fringe foods; fried frog legs, pickled pig feet, chicken feet. Cons: they don't refill trays until stuff is near empty, raw fish + buffet = the obvious health risk (choose wisely), stuff sometimes sits too long and gets burnt/chewy, etc. All in all, it's worth the $22 weekend price tag if you're going to eat seafood and eat mightily. Service is sort of hit and miss, some people are friendly, some aren't so much. Again, if you're at a buffet, you have to be willing to compromise some normal restaurant expectations as this is a horse of a different color. read more

The first review I read went on and on about how they're the best in San Diego , so we were actually very excited to get to come here . Sadly we did not find this buffet to be outstanding . The workers serving meat and the man making the stir fry seemed absolutely miserable . Their personality made us uncomfortable and not welcomed at all . The stir fry was bland and lacked flavor . The pork rib I tried had an odd marinade . I didn't eat more than a bite of it . The other items off the buffet were cold and there wasn't any regular fried rice . The fried rice they have is crab fried rice . It was not good . We tried the Chinese food dishes and they were old and cold . I did go back for more Chinese dishes because I was not leaving their hungry . And 2nd time around the coconut shrimp was fresh and had great flavor . But I couldn't eat it with fried rice . Watched the guy cleaning the buffet area put food that had fallen onto buffet counter back into thr serving dishes. Gross. I've had this buffet bookmarked for a while and I finally had a chance to visit on Friday with my roomie. I saw Maridel's yelp reviews raving about it so I had to see for myself! I agree that it's the best buffet in San Diego aside from the Casino buffets. Weekend dinner is $19 (not including drink) and I got a coupon from their website that was $2 off. The place is really nice and I could see wedding rehearsal receptions, baptism parties, birthdays and graduations celebrated here. They have a room sectioned off for larger parties. By far my favorite part was the Beijing Peking Duck Bao! Yummm! That alone made it worth it! I wish I had a huge appetite because I was so full after only eating one of those LOL some of the other highlights were the cream cheese wontons, crab legs, Brazilian BBQ... everything was great! For dessert I really enjoyed their cotton candy! it's so random to see it there but it reminded me of when I was a kid and I would collect all my tokens at Chuck E. It's been a year of Covid that I couldn't come back here and enjoy the food, the last time it was a surprise for me, same did for this time. I decided to have dinner with my family on the evening of July 4th, as usual I would call to make sure that they are opened, they said they close at 9 pm, so we came at 6 pm, saw the sign, sat down and started eating, the food was great to be honest, and I would say a lot of contributing factors to make this happen. First, for a big holiday like this, the place usually packed with people, you would imagine you couldn't even get a table at this point, but luckily the place was pretty thin on customers traffic, we stayed until 7pm so far maybe about 8 tables dining in, but the food was also limited, they didn't cook a lot maybe because they didn't want to waste food if noone is eating, and for the one that people eat a lot, they would bring the new batch out slowly, not intentionally but they took the time to cook it, so when it came out, the taste was much much better. Secondly, I noticed that they cut back on staffs, and also cleaning as now they switched to paper plates and plastic utensils so they can just throw them away and less cleaning up in the back, also they didn't open the bar area or the big Mongolian bbq section either, but every other food selections seems on point. I get to enjoy my food without fighting over people to get the one that I wanted, also some peace and quiet:) Anyway when we left, there was group that just came in, they asked us whether or not the food here was good to eat, and I replied that it was the perfect time to eat right now since noone was here so the quality was great. Unfortunately when we headed to the parking, I saw the group leaving, I asked why, and they said the restaurant will be close in 30 mins, and it would be too rushing for them to enjoy, I looked at the time and it was 8 pm, sadly they decided to close early compared to what they told me on the phone which was 9 pm, I felt bad for them both, sadly they might not think it was worth it to stay for another hour, and so the customers might have to go someplace else, it is understandable if they can't make the profit like they used to before Covid. Came here to celebrate a late Mother's Day for my aunt who had been out of town. It was her choice and this is the place she picked. Place is easy to find and there's plenty of parking. The first thing you notice after entering is that the place is very spacious and looks clean. There is a ton of seating and plenty of food choices. There was actually a section of the restaurant that was closed. It could probably be reserved for a large party... if you're a fan of the food. So despite a lot of choices, the food was really just okay at best. There was seafood, sashimi, and sushi... the common theme of the night is that it didn't taste very good or fresh. The hot food was pretty greasy / oily. Some food tasted okay and some good, nothing great. The salad and fruit bar was alright. They had a variety of melons and even had a chocolate fountain for their strawberries. I tried some ribs in the "Brazilian BBQ" area that were super greasy, bland and dry. I was hoping the duck bao would be good, but it ended up just being okay. Tried some dim sum items that ranged from bad to okay at best. The teppanyaki grill was probably the best part of this place because you select noodles, veggies, and the meat you want then the teppanyaki chef cooks it up for you fresh. Service was good. They were pretty attentive and came around often to clear plates. We ended up dropping $146 and change (not including tip) or so for 7 people. I thought the place was just okay. The steamed crab legs are big and meaty with buttery butter, thick crawfish but it was too spicy, egg drop soup mmm... the eggs too were thick and plenty. Everything I ate and tried here is flavorful, unlike other places where it's bland. I really liked the crab legs since they were pretty meaty compared to other buffets'. The crawfish was also a bit salty and some of them were old, but overall it was enjoyable. Today, they also served turkey! When I came in, I got seated immediately and the workers were really nice and attentive. You have to eat on foam plates and plastic utensils, which is probably due to sanitation purposes. I was not sure at first where to get the utensils, but they are on the sides with the piles of foam plates. There are food ranging from frog legs and sushi to french fries and chicken wings: typically the food you would find common at most Asian buffets. I'm big on buffets and wanted to compare Seaside to another location down the street. Slight price difference right off the bat, but a dollar or two up or down isn't going to kill me. Free soda w Yelp checkin is nice. I asked if it was ok to apply it to hot tea and the woman at the front was ok with that. Upon entering the dining area, what stood out to me was the bright lighting and pink tables. Not a fan of the decor, but I'm not here for fashion points. I'm here to get at the buffet lines. Always had a steady line for food to be prepared. The fresh hot foods were good and included meats station with "Brazilian" bbq and traditional American meat options. I liked the scallop and shrimp choices here. Salmon was ok. Slightly overlooked and a bit bland. Cooked oysters had a good flavor. The dumplings were not all fresh, at least when I passed by. Some were dry and hard, some ok. The cold seafood was pretty good. Hearty sized oysters, king crab had little meat and the peeled shrimp were... small. There were a variety of soups to choose from and I had a bowl of the hot and sour. Good hearty soup with lots of tofu and veggies. Lots of sushi options as well, but the specialty rolls weren't being refilled regularly. They also had a dish for sashimi, which unfortunately didn't look very appetizing. Various fish tossed together on a serving dish. It was busy with kids running back and forth and in and around tables. Some I noticed using their hands to pick up foods instead of the provided utensils. Parents, please watch your kids.... Some things I didn't dig into were the salads and desserts. I am a regular at Natsumi just a few miles west of this place. I thought I would give Seaside Buffet a try. It was a Friday evening and they were relatively busy. The food was room temperature at best. I don't think that their chafing units were on. The trays of food were very empty and were not re-stocked in the 40 minutes I was there. Overall I was very disappointed in quality and selection. To top it off, I got food poisoning in the worst way. $26 for buffet and 1 soda is too much in my opinion. read more

I just ate dinner here last night and previous week also. I come here for the snow and salt and pepper blue crabs. I went to Natsumi like 15 min before and took pictures of the salt and pepper blue crabs there, on the same night. They are much smaller than Seaside. I put captions on my pictures showing you which is Natsumi's and which is Seaside's blue crabs. I of course, couldn't put a crab body on a plate at Natsumi, cos I didn't pay. But believe me, the Seaside blue crabs are twice the size and delicious. Put your body in your mouth, and pull with your teeth and all the moist and juicy crab ends up in your mouth. YUM! On my May 23, 2019 dinner I hosted for 9 Asian Foodies MeetUp, the snow crab in the cold section was soooooo good, and if you get there just when they refill, you can pick some really BIG crab legs and claws. I notice that the snow crab in the hot section is consistently not as big as the cold section. It may because the larger legs may not fit in the steamer or bin. I don't eat that hot crab anymore because the legs are waterlogged and flavor drowned/leached out of the crab. RUINED! I pick out the meat from the cold crab and bring my own melted butter in a Thermos (cos they have disgusting margarine in the hotpot dispenser labeled "BUTTER") and candle butter warmer, which heats my cold crab in the hot butter. Last night May 23, cold snow crab was sooooo good! It is very expensive for Seaside to buy such large size snow crab, as the prices really went up in the last 2 years for snow crab, but I appreciate that Seaside's dinner price stays the same. read more

TLDR; review is only for their lunch. Typical Asian buffet with sushi, teppanyaki, etc. It's all surprisingly good and the cheap lunch price makes it even better! Check in on Yelp for a free soda. I wasn't expecting much. After all, Asian buffets generally have low ratings and the food is usually average at best. But there were some highlights. It's located in a plaza so there's a pretty big parking lot. My favorite was their black pepper chicken. Felt like each piece wasn't dry, slightly crispy on the edges and the sauce they used had a sweet after taste. Salmon nigiri wasn't bad too. The salmon piece was kind of thin but at least it was soft. I thought it was cool that they had a DIY smores section but kind of dangerous for young kids because there's no one managing it. The fried chicken wings were juicy but the pieces I got were a little more soggy than crispy. The cheesecake was still kind of frozen too. If you don't want to eat AYCE, you can actually buy food to go. They'll give you a take out container and weigh it at the end and charge you by the weight. Not too bad as far as lunch buffets go. There is a carving station where you can get Peking duck slices in between hot, pillowy buns. They even dress it for you so you just need to eat. I particularly love their: Salt N Pepper Shrimp Salt N Pepper Crab (harder to eat though obviously) Walnut Shrimp Mushrooms Steak cubes Their sushi was decent, though not as good as their hot dishes are. This is your standard Chinese buffet. They are a believer of quality over quality. The food wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. There are a lot of items to choose from, cold and steamed crab legs, salt and pepper crab legs, raw and cooked oysters, salt and pepper shrimp, and one I've never seen at a a buffet before, sea snails! The seafood didn't taste very fresh so be warned before you eat one of their raw oysters! Their butter for seafood tasted like movie theater popcorn butter...
