Too often when dining out, in spite of enjoying the overall experience, I'll notice one detail or another where things fall short. Either the prices seem too high or the portions seem too small, or the music is too loud or the lighting isn't quite right or the waitstaff is too hard to get a hold of or they stop by too much. But in the case of the Seawitch, it's just about as good as it gets of being a perfect dining experience. I go to Carolina Beach for a week each year with my family, and we always make a point of going to the Seawitch at least two or three times during our vacation. The food is exceptional - and we've tried about a dozen different things so far, and each one has become a new family favorite. The menu centers around dishes that have clearly have had a lot of thought and pride put into them, not to mention, a focus on local seafood, which is exactly why you come to a setting like the Carolina coast. Some of my favorites are the fried oyster basket, the grilled grouper sandwich, and the shrimp po boys. They all taste like you're a seashell's throw away from the beach, which is appropriate because that's exactly where you are. The prices are also incredible. Frequently in seasonal, touristy areas, everything gets jacked up to a few dollars (or a lot) more than it should be, but here things are priced more than fair. I always get the grilled Grouper sandwich, which is not only locally caught but includes such a gorgeously large piece of fish, it extends a few inches out of the Texas toast it's served on, and it's only $12. (It also comes with a choice of sides, and the fries - both the regular kind, as well as the sweet potato - are better than any fries I've had just about anywhere else.) The other day my Dad ordered the special of the day - an enormous piece of locally caught flounder, with fries, hush puppies and cole slaw, all for $10. Incredible. The setting is phenomenal - virtually all restaurants in the Carolina Beach area are along the main road of North Lake Park Boulevard, which feels like your average highly trafficked street you might find anywhere in the US. But the Seawitch somehow managed to be in the prime north end of the island, where it's a tiny sliver of land surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on each side, and is otherwise entirely residential. As far as I know the Seawitch is the only restaurant in the north end (aside from a small coffee shop, and the Hang Ten Grill on the Carolina Beach Pier - the latter of which I've never been to, but from what I've heard it gets by because just of the view, and apparently the food isn't much to write home about.) At night the Seawitch has live bands and more of a bar atmosphere, but we always go for lunch when it has the vibe of a laid back surf shack, complete with ceiling fans lazily turning above the booths and on our last visit, a couple at a nearby table with their two dogs quietly sleeping at their feet. (Which the staff of the Seawitch brought out a bowl of ice water for the happy pups.) The open air restaurant is pretty much entirely outdoor, although there's a roof over the bar area as well as over the booths, both still with great views of the Carolina blue skies and the palm trees growing in and around the restaurant. I also have to give a shout out to the incredible waiterstaff. On our most recent visit, we had A.J. one afternoon and Jeremiah the next, and both were absolute professionals. It's clear that they take a lot of pride in their work, and see their involvement as much more than just a job. It's that kind of place where the people seem to love what they do and it shows. Long story long, just drop what you're doing and get yourself over to the Seawitch. (Even if you're reading this in another state, pack your bags and get moving! The food, the environment, the people at the Seawitch - it's really that good!) Oh, and I suppose being my annoyingly picky and detailed self, if I was forced to find one thing about the Seawitch that wasn't absolutely perfect, it would be that there's no mirror in the bathroom. But you're on vacation at the beach - who really cares what your hair looks like, right? read more

Great place! Our server Chrissie was awesome. Wednesday is 1/2 off all drinks all day! That makes domestic beers $1.50 and imports $2. Margaritas and boat drinks $4. They had boneless wing and fried shrimp baskets for $6. Only negative was that the fries tasted fishy. They must use the same grease for everything. The pineapple chipotle sauce was good. Went here for dinner expecting something great based on reviews, but walked into the adjacent dining room closest to the parking lot and decided to leave. The table was sticky and leftover food stuck to the chairs, French fries scattered on the floor and a huge dead roach as you walked in. I get there are bugs in places you most likely don't see as it's the nature of the food industry...you can't help it. But for a roach and food to be laying on the floor in the public eye...unacceptable. If you allow your dining room to look this way, imagine the bathrooms or the kitchen. We ate at the Deck House and couldn't have been happier. read more

We enjoyed a tasty late lunch at the Seawitch. There were four in our party and all enjoyed their food. We were seated on the pier. The sunshine and breeze were refreshing. At our table we had orders of grilled fish, deep fried shrimp and I had blackened mahi mahi. All meals were well prepared and served hot. This is a great place to go to listen to live music. They typically have live band year round and offers drink specials each evening through the week. They have some food specials too but the only thing I've eaten is the Tuna nachos which are very good. The music is played outside on the large deck with tables and a dance floor area. Honestly, Can't praise Seawitch enough! The atmosphere is carefree and fun and everyone is always so friendly, customers and staff alike! The staff always seems to be having a good time and enjoying themselves, which says a lot about an establishment and the way it is run. My favorite part is that there is always live music by a variety of different local artists! Drinks are always cold and delicious and food is never a let down! I really enjoyed the Seared Tuna Nachos. Very good quality tuna cooked perfectly. The sauce added a very dynamic burst of flavor. If I stretch to try to find an issue with this dish it's only that more sauce would have been appreciated. My wife's choice of Blackened Chicken Breast on Alfredo pasta was not acceptable. They did not blacken the chicken, it seemed boiled to us. The Alfredo sauce was an odd orange tint colored. When we asked the manager he said 'the blackened spice is mixed into the Alfredo'. Which is not what the menu said. He also said the chicken was satiated with oil and pan fried, but it looked and tasted boiled to us. Service was average at best. Slow but friendly. Bottom line here is get the Tuna Nachos avoid the chicken. read more

We had an early dinner-arrived 6:30-ish and we (party of 3) were seated immediately. Our waitress was Johnny-on-the-spot and took our drink order and appetizer order. One person ordered a frozen cocktail which was the highlight of the evening. We ordered the hot crab dip which was good but could have had more identifiable chunks of crabmeat. After we ordered dinner, mind you we were early for the dinner crowd, the waitress had to return to tell us they had no baked potatoes. How does that happen? Anyway, substitutions were ordered. One person had the fried shrimp basket which was tasty. The only shortcoming was the coleslaw- very dry. Another person ordered the Maryland crab cakes. No discernible lumps of crabmeat and the cake was very dry. I had the broiled shrimp, basted with garlic butter which overpowered the taste of the shrimp. The sides were mashed potatoes (good) and coleslaw (dry). We did not ask for boxes to take leftovers back to the condo. The service was good, the food not quite there. read more

In cold March the two dining options were either the room where the band played - which was very loud or another room with super bright lighting - it felt like a cafeteria.
