The security staff need to be reined in. I'm a 70-year-old man and my wife is a 57-year-old woman. She was berated by a large security staff member for lighting a cigarette under a canopy. Instead of diffusing an issue, like saying "Mame you need to get out from under the canopy and smoke outside", he started yelling at her and saying, "You need to leave right now". This was my first time at Pleasure Island, and the SeaWitch made a great first impression on me. I loved the tiki bar vibe, the open concept, and the beautiful colors. We were nervous about there not being A/C, but there was such a great breeze we were super comfortable. The server and staff were all wonderful- fun and efficient. Husband and I enjoyed a few cold cocktails and a wonderful dinner. I had a fish sandwich that was super crispy and fresh. I also loved the hot crab dip! The best part really was the ambiance. We arrived in July 2020 so there hasn't been much night life for the last few months, obviously. I was tickled to see a live band! It gave me some sort of hope that 'normal life' may be just around the corner. This is my favorite place to eat, drink and be merry in Carolina Beach! We even had our wedding reception here! They have friendly and attentive staff, great food and drinks and it's a fun and beachy place! Plus, they have the most amazing ahi tuna nachos around! We came during covid19 to their Tiki window to place our order and it took about 15 minutes to get our ahi tuna nachos, shrimp basket and growler fill up! We missed being able to sit on the great patio and listen to music with a beer! We definitely can't wait until they can open again! As usual the nachos were amazing! Seawitch is a good destination for bar food, primarily. Their menu is somewhat limited, but the open air seating and a good drink menu more than makes up for it. Don't go there seeking gourmet, you'll be disappointed. However, if you want cold beer, a tropical drink, steamed shrimp, good wings or a sandwich then you're in luck. Tried to eat here on a busy Saturday night with live music, didn't expect a 2 hour wait! Decided to skip and returned back for lunch the following day. Didn't have to wait at all, we were seated outside and the ambiance and temperature were perfect. Everything was delicious! The brussel sprouts with bacon onion chutney really stood out, they were so good! I split a pound of crab legs with my mom. Only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because we had to ask someone (not our waitress who disappeared for awhile) if they could bring us an extra plate and cracker. We didn't realize there was only one cracker until after our waitress walked away. We told her we were sharing, in my opinion she should have ensured these items were there before serving our meals. Some wet wipes would have been nice to include too - crab legs were covered in spice mixture that was very messy and regular napkins didn't work that great to get our hands clean. I'll give you a little spoiler- I was very impressed with this place. Two dear friends of my family got married on the sand at Kure Beach and had their reception at the Seawitch afterwards. When we entered the establishment it didn't appear like a super nice place. It seemed pretty ordinary but my first impression quickly changed. The management had employed a sufficient amount of staff to care for our large party. The employees were wonderful. We never wanted for a single thing the entire night. They kept the cocktails coming out quickly. They cleaned up after our dinner plates. Cudos to the staff! I didn't think it was very wedding-like when we first entered but then we entered the reception area. They had the area setup with white tablecloths and pretty tablescapes. They used beachy decorations and nice tableware. It was perfect for a beach wedding. The food was buffet service. The food was delicious! We had pork and chicken. They had salad, jacket potatoes, and a variety of breads. The cornbread sticks were delightful. The buffet line moved quickly. The Seawitchis one of those unique places that you sometimes find at the beach. It is a rustic, tiki bar kind of atmosphere with really good drinks, friendly service and good food. It is not fine cuisine but really good beach food. Prices are reasonable. I understand that it is closing soon to make way for a large hotel chain and I am sad. Beach towns lose their personality when places like the Seawitch go away and this will be a loss for sure. read more

My sister's shrimp tacos were basically shrimp cocktail shrimp that were not seasoned at all. She did love the mac n cheese though. So I guess if you are a food snob, you may be disappointed. We always pop by Seawitch when we visit Carolina Beach. We typically take a mid-day break from the beach for a seafood fix. On our last trip, we had the Carolina Crab Dip and Firecracker Shrimp appetizers. The Crab Dip came with fried pita bread. Highly recommend! I like a kick to my food, so I requested the Mango Haberno sauce along with the typical Firecracker. No problem. The sauces came in small cups on the side as opposed to tossing the shrimp before serving. Mango habanero's perfect if you like spicy. If not, you can tone it down with the ranch or blue cheese dressing. Lots of tables around us had ordered the Ahi Tuna Nachos. We have visited a couple evenings. Still great food and fun, live entertainment. Never been disappointed. Starts getting very busy and younger, drunk crowd seems to take over the bar area. We opted for outdoor seating and the pics don't do the place justice. It's a huge outdoor space and they have live music occasionally as well. The food was really good- had the crab dip (a MUST try- one of the best I've had. Some crab dips have an overwhelming amount of old bay or not enough crab but the seasonings and lump crab in this one was just melt in your mouth delicious. Although I wish there were more of those delicious homemade chips!). Some other notable items include the flounder burger (flaky, crispy, giant, and delicious) and the fish tacos (they give so much fish)! Drinks were alright, nothing to write home about. I also enjoyed the hush puppies a ton. It doesn't take much to impress me with seafood, but I was sadly disappointed. I order the grilled sea scallops + fried flounder. My scallops were cold and the fish upset my stomach for 2 days. I hate to leave bad reviews, but everyone in my party who ordered the flounder had the same experience. The bread was separated from the fish itself almost as if they had cooked a frozen fish. But we are right next to the ocean??? It felt lazy and unappetizing. However, after waiting longer than anticipated due to "technical difficulties" with the buzzer, my party was already on frustrated with our experience. That on top of the hosts' choice to seat us out of shot of a fan which was frankly quite miserable. Food can only be described as average -- at least what my party ordered. Ahi Tuna nachos were alright. Mahi mahi tacos were a little plain but decent. Mac and cheese was bland. Would likely not return to this establishment.
