So I have visited this location many times in the past when it was previous businesses so I finally decided to try out the newest joint here named Seawitch. The ambiance here seems far nicer and upscale than the previous businesses that have been here that were more in the dive ambiance category. So far I've enjoyed all my seafood experiences here as they have a fantastic selection of oysters which you can get raw, chargrilled and fried. The seafood gumbo has the absolute largest sized shrimp I've ever had anywhere! Their crawfish etouffee is jam packed with crawfish unlike some places that are very skimpy with the amount of mudbugs. I usually wouldn't ever get an omelette in restaurant like this but I gave it a shot and it was one of the all time best omelettes I've ever had along with having the same huge sized shrimp like their gumbo uses along with generous amounts of crabmeat. To this point all my dining experiences have been at the bar and service has been good. They also have quite a selection of craft cocktails and other adult beverages. They have a great happy hour with $1 oysters Monday-Friday 3pm-6pm. The only disappointment I have had was with their "smash" burger which came out with thicker patties than all the other smash style burgers I've eaten. The two patties on the burger could have easily been combined to make a standard size New Orleans style burger which tends to be thicker and you can order it cooked to your preferred temperature at most places that serve the thicker patties of the traditional New Orleans style burger. The two patties on my burger were just burned crispy on the outside and very overcooked which many smashburger fans seem to love that burned crust but I HATE it. The two stacked burger patties were also smaller than the bun which really caused structural integrity issues making for a literally unbalanced burger. I think they would have a MUCH better burger here if they just combined the two patties together and started doing a traditional New Orleans style burger cooked to the customer's temperature specification. If they don't want to do a traditional NOLA burger then I would suggest they use Gonzo's Smokehouse as the only example of a smashburger I find acceptable as they don't burn their meat. I'm really ready for this smashburger fad to go away and I don't like my meat burned and crunchy! So the current form of Seawitch's burger is not something I would get again but the burned meat loving hipsters will probably love it. Overall I loved all the seafood options I've sampled here so far and I think this is a fantastic spot for seafood! read more

We started with the oyster ceviche, and it ended up being the highlight of the entire meal. It was fresh, bright, flavorful, and a great balance of citrus and seasoning. If you're only ordering one oyster dish here, this would be my recommendation. Next came the oyster sampler, which unfortunately didn't live up to the ceviche. We were excited to try all the different preparations, but most of them just missed the mark for us. The jerk oysters were our favorite, earning about a 5/10, while the rest fell somewhere below that. The toppings and sauces often overpowered the oysters instead of complementing them, and none of the combinations really made us want to order them again. Service was another downside. It was slower than expected, especially considering there weren't many customers during our visit. We weren't in a rush, but there were several moments where we found ourselves waiting longer than we should have. Overall, SeaWitch has a cool concept and the oyster ceviche was genuinely delicious, but the sampler and the slow service kept this from being a better experience. The oyster soup, which is supposed to be the chef's family recipe, only had two oysters in the soup. I mean, come on. I also tried the charbroiled oyster sampler which came with 14 pieces. Again, mid. None of the specialty charbroiled oysters were memorable. I should have kept it simple and got the local raw oysters. The trout entree was probably the best entree item. Very flavorful, but it was room temperature by the time it got to the table. The gumbo was an absolute disappointment. We're Texans, so we are used to great gumbo even in Houston, but coming to NOLA, we expect a higher standard. Nope. We let our waitress know and she didn't offer to replace or do anything. The stuffed shrimp was meh. Just deep fried with cream cheese inside. With tip, we spent under $200, and I wish I would have re-thought my decision process by choosing here for dinner. Came for happy hour and ended up making a meal off of the $1 oysters. I also tried the buffalo chargrilled oysters which were good, but not as great as the raw. Happy Hour is from 3-6pm and I ordered a dozen oysters which were massive and plump. They came with your typical assortment of lemon, cocktail sauce, etc. I sat outside on the porch and had a great view of the street car and St. Charles. Seawitch was pretty good, but not great, truthfully. The oysters, though? Those were excellent, especially the miso ones. Skip the ribs... overcooked and chewy, not falling off the bone, and the sauce leaned a little too sweet. The stuffed shrimp were fine but nothing that's going to stick with you flavor-wise. Ambiance on the balcony overlooking St. Charles was a total vibe. Our server Blaine was 5/5; genuinely great service. We went on a Thursday at 6:30 and walked right in without a reservation; most outdoor seats were taken but inside had plenty of room. My TLDR? Come for a drink and the oysters, skip most of the other small plates. Happy hour is worth checking out too especially cause the regular menu prices are on the higher end (but ofc it's St. Charles). We paid $140 for 2 small plates, 2 prosecco & 1 dozen oysters. Stopped by Sea Witch and had such a fun experience overall. The atmosphere alone is worth the visit. The location on St. Charles is beautiful, and the restaurant itself feels very inviting, lively, and perfect for a relaxed New Orleans outing. I ordered the peach cocktail, oysters Rockefeller, crab poppers, and truffle fries. The peach drink was refreshing and perfectly balanced, not overly sweet and great for the warm weather. The oysters Rockefeller were absolutely delicious, rich, flavorful, and cooked just right. The truffle fries were also a standout, crispy with great seasoning and that indulgent truffle flavor. The only disappointment for me was the crab poppers. They were listed as fried, but the jalapeño inside still tasted very raw, which threw off the texture and overall flavor. I went here during the restaurant's happy hour (3 PM to 6 PM Monday to Friday) for the $1 raw gulf oysters. I ended up getting $36 worth of oysters, so needless to say, I enjoyed the oysters, which were fresh, plump, and big. The oysters came with lemon, crackers, horseradish, cocktail sauce, and a mignonette. My preferred way of eating an oyster is putting it on a cracker, squirting a little lemon juice on it, and dipping it in some cocktail sauce. Delicious! I also ordered the $10 seasonal frozen drink. I forgot exactly what it was - blueberry something? - but it was sweet and refreshing. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was a delight. He was friendly and made sure to keep my glass of water full. I've been slacking on reviewing lately, but I had to give this place a special shout out, because 6 months later it's still burned in my mind. The decor and ambience were kinda weird from first setting foot in the restaurant. Not bad weird mind you, but very unique. The staff was exceedingly nice with the chef himself at one point coming out to say hi. It all seemed super clean and proudly displayed all the hot sauces I enjoyed, though the food was perfectly seasoned and they didn't end up being necessary. I ordered what was essentially a flight of oysters, and within there contained the single best bite of food I may have ever had in my life; it was some kind of seasoned fried oyster with fish roe on top that I could have eaten 75 of. We decided on Seawitch for lunch. We were the first to arrive and they seated us on the patio, which was perfect since we had two kids with us. We ordered lemon garlic butter chargrilled oysters, NOLA BBQ chargrilled oysters, and oyster Rockefeller. We also got the seafood gumbo and Cajun Pastalaya. And we got their harvest salad with grilled shrimp. I thought that their chargrilled oysters were really delicious. It's packed full of flavor but a little bit on the saltier side. The seafood gumbo was delicious and I loved the crabmeat and shrimp that was in it. The Cajun Pastalaya was rich and buttery. It had Andouille sausage, cochon, Gulf shrimp with penne pasta and a Cajun sauce. Since I was sharing with my toddler, they were kind enough to make the sauce from scratch and make it nonspicy so that he could eat too. The standout from our meal was the harvest salad. Romaine & butter lettuce with smoked bacon, avocado, roasted corn tossed in a buttermilk-creole dressing. We added grilled shrimp to make it an entrees I love the flavor. It was supposed to come with miso butter, but it was just dry thin crusted fish with minimal meat to it. I tried The Sea Witch on Saint Charles for lunch and it was the worst meal I have had in New Orleans. The only decent thing about this place was the waiter. He was polite and professional. Everything else was a disaster. The crabcakes looked like hamburger patties, had no flavor, and were full of shells. I almost choked. The shrimp pasta was bland, the fries were plain even though they were advertised with Parmesan and oil, and even the old fashioned my friend ordered was bad. We paid nearly $80 and we should have returned everything but I did not want to make the staff feel bad. I regret that choice. If this is the quality they serve their very first customers of the day I do not want to know what dinner looks like. Save your money and skip The Sea Witch. This place simply is not worth it. This was my first time here and I had never heard of Seawitch before so I didnt really have any expectations. My mother and I started with the classic chargrilled oysters, and they were fantastic. Unfortunately, everything after that was underwhelming. They were out of both the Grand Duck Confit that I wanted and the stuffed shrimp appetizer my mom ordered. I switched to the seafood gumbo, which was bland and lacked flavor. (Shame on me for ordering restaurant gumbo to begin with) I then exchanged it for the trout, but I wasn't impressed with that either. Something tasted off, I wasn't sure if it was the trout its self or the sauce it was covered but I didn't like it. The trout also came with potatoes but they were SEVERELY overcooked. I went during lunch and was initially worried for my guests who didn't eat oysters. However, there was variety and we ended up ordering from both the lunch and happy hour menus. Nothing disappointed. I had the oyster trio and every oyster was absolute perfection. I also had the redfish which was equally delicious. I have mixed feelings about this place. While there were some real highlights, a few things left much to be desired. Unfortunately, our experience got off to a rocky start with the service. Our waitress seemed to be having a rough day--she frequently complained about various things, which created an uncomfortable vibe. When I asked for bottled water, she responded rather curtly, insisting their tap water is filtered--as if I was asking her to pay for it. (Great, but... no one asked.) Now, on to the good: the appetizers were outstanding. Both the crab claws and crab cakes were sweet, flavorful, and absolutely worth ordering. I'd come back for those alone--do not skip them! I really enjoyed the happy hour menu. I definitely was more interested in the shared plates than the actual entrees. I tried the mini chargrilled oysters which came with 1 rockerfeller, 1 BBQ and 1 lemon garlic oyster. Next time I'd skip the mini and just order the lemon garlic oysters as they were my favorite. I also really enjoyed the etouffee fries. The crawfish etouffee cornbread was a hit amongst my table and it's definitely meant to be shared. They also do boiled seafood on Fridays. Last time we were in New Orleans, this place was called the Blind Pelican (if I'm not wrong) and my husband and I went there 3 times in our 4 day visit because their charbroiled oysters were so good. Hoping it would still be as good we both ordered a dozen oysters (and no it wasn't happy hour) The most of the oysters were quite small, I had a couple that weren't bigger than a dime. But the worst of it was that they were soooo smothered in Parmesan cheese that had become a rubbery cover that you could barely taste the oysters. Oysters are delicate, their taste shouldn't be overwhelmed/ blocked by other strong flavors. Just a little garlic, butter, Parmesan and maybe parsley is all it needs. Ate here for the 1st time for dinner with my Wife on a Friday night. Sat outdoors on the balcony with sounds of the live music below. Friendly welcoming, but then came the food. We sat down just before the end of happy hour so asked if we still had time to order some of the happy hr food menu. We were assured no problem. However, the happy hour mini chargrilled oysters were not delivered to our table until AFTER our entrees! The mini crab cakes (3 for $15) were so overwhelmed by the sauce that I could not swear under oath that they truly contained crab. The same could be said for the entrees. And the shucker didn't know, so he asked the other shucker who pointed at the board, which was blocked and had an attitude. They were from area 10. The bartender was either stoned, drunk or hungover. It was happy hour our 1st try, so we had to double back later. There was plenty seating but we were instructed by the host that they were reserved so we had to sit at the bar. The bartender was great and attentive. Her drinks were made well, so we had to order a second round. We started with a dozen raw oysters and a dozen chargrilled. We could see the grill from the bar. The bread was coated in the garlic butter as well. It was the perfect combo of soft and crunchy. The flavor was well balanced. Not too salty. They disappeared fast. I had the special that night, which was a lobster boil. The lobster was flavorful through and tender. It came with shrimp and potatoes. The potatoes were a little hard, but didn't ruin it for me. We then tried the sticky ribs and truffle fries. The sauce on the ribs was sweet & tangy, a great starter. The fries were fries. We did try the oyster shooters and the bloody mary mix was balanced. We had a Margarita and a Peach Please, which both hit the spot. This place is really pricey and adds up quick, so plan accordingly. read more
