The shoppe was busy when dropped by but the queue was fast-moving since the cashiers behind the counter were quickly processing all the customers; they were friendly and patient, they effectively ringing up each order with expert precision which made wait time very minimal. The mousse cakes were good but there was something different about them; my niece's chocolate muffin was unusually oily for some strange reason but she said other than that it still tasted good. I visited Second St. Marketplace at the Grand Sierra Resort on Saturday, March 28th, 2026, after attending a concert. We were looking forward to grabbing something good to eat late at night and decided to try the Philly cheesesteak. Unfortunately, it was a huge mistake. This was by far one of the most unpleasant sandwiches I've ever had. The meat didn't seem like real steak at all -- it appeared overly processed, almost as if it had been run through a blender. The texture was more like a sloppy Joe than a traditional Philly cheesesteak. I would honestly have preferred a sloppy Joe, and I don't even like sloppy Joes. Beyond the texture, the flavor was just as disappointing and left a bad taste in my mouth -- literally. After an otherwise enjoyable night at the resort, this meal really ended things on a low note. They were very busy, but the line moved pretty quickly, and I didn't have to wait long for my toasted bagel (she said it would be 10 minutes or less, and it was about 5 minutes). I got the maple donut, apple fritter, and blueberry muffin right away, though, before I finished checking out. It was also pretty reasonably priced, considering how expensive everything has been. We came here for a quick bite to eat before our show on Thursday night. Everywhere else was far too busy and packed for us to get in on time. It's a walk up and order type situation. They call your name out when your food is ready. I ordered a slice of pizza and my family all opted for one of their sandwiches. The pizza was surprisingly good! While there weren't many hot coffee flavor options listed, Saif went above and beyond to accommodate me. He was very knowledgeable and first offered me the drinks from the fridge, then explained the available syrups he could use to customize a coffee for me. I decided to go with his recommendation instead of my usual Starbucks stop. Putting the extra effort to do this review because I was pleasantly surprised by the level of service, especially during the busy morning hustle & bustle. Saif wasn't trying to shoo me away and rushing me to place my order. I also noticed how well Saif managed and guided his team--they were professional, efficient, and provided great customer service. It's rare to experience that kind of attentiveness and teamwork in such a fast-paced setting. While writing this, I'm sitting at the table enjoying my morning snack and I continue to see them do a great job and making the extra effort to acknowledge their customers. Though we could tell the quality was not that of a local bakery that makes items fresh daily, we decided to grab something to bring back up to our room. (Decisions made after midnight tend not to be responsible nor logical. At least we knew to steer clear of the stale-looking pizza!) Both the mini White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake ($7) & Turtle Brownie ($5) were decent. I took one bite of each & threw in the towel. Small price to pay, calorically & financially, to confirm what we suspected -- that they tasted more commercially made than made in-house. If I could give this place zero stars, I would! I will preface by saying that we are regulars at GSR. We stay here two times or more a month. This eatery has never been all that good..service is usually terrible and super slow and it's always dirty. The one thing that used to be decent was the pizza...I am that girl who gambles and drinks until 3am and then craves pizza. I always use my food comps there to get a slice to take up to the room. This night was exceptionally terrible. First off, I looked at the pizza case, and could tell that the pizza was overcooked and sitting there for many hours. So I asked when they were putting out a fresh pizza and was told that they had none in the oven and weren't making anymore. Oh well, I was hungry, it was late, so I decided against my better judgment to get a slice of cheese pizza. and guess what!!! As soon as I got my slice and started to walk away, they bring out a fresh pizza for the pizza case! The line was slow and lonnnnng, too long to go back to get a new slice. If you order anything from this deli, it has to be the turkey melt, holy shizzzz. I'm not huge into sammies, but this turkey melt is probably one of the best sandos I've ever had. It's on a house made ciabatta bread which I believe makes this thing so tasty. It could also be all the elements working together, the turkey, the bacon, tomatoes and some chipotle mayo sauce bringing it all together. During Hotel stays, I wake up earlier than Gayle, and am the first to partake of room coffee. A save a packet for her and then decide to go down somewhere and get a nosh and some real coffee. And so it was this morning, of which I returned to our GSR room with pretty good coffee and a tasty (albeit crumbly) pumpkin muffin. Of course I shared and it was enough sustenance to avoid a sit down breakfast and allow us to get back home to Genoa to deal with any hunger then. Sometimes you just want to get home! The 2nd Street Marketplace "sweet roll" selection is vast (and tempting) and much better than what's offered at Starbucks next door. Maybe the coffee wasn't quite Starbucks quality, but it was good enough and without the line. The only downside is that both 2nd Street and Starbucks (among other GSR food establishments) serve a captive audience within a casino with no surrounding commercial neighborhood. Second Street Cafe looks amazing but often times there's been issues using dining comps here. It has happened twice so far. The French dip sandwich was barely okay. I wanted the cubano this past Monday around 12pm but it wasn't available. The meat in the French dip was nothing like the proportion advertised in the display. What a letdown. I do however love the pesto pizza and the meat lovers pizza also. The workers do put in the effort but I think communication and customer service at the register can be improved to be more time efficient. I had to contain and control myself, so instead of getting everything under the kitchen sink--I went with a Gnome Cheesecake and 2 cookies: red velvet and s'mores. The mini cheesecake not only was pretty, it was super delicious and that's what counts the most. I got the cookies for Santa, so I'm not sure how they tasted but since they're gone. What happened to this place! Everytime my family stays at GSR we can't wait to eat here. We were just here in July and it was still really good. Im staying here now, as we speak, and my kids, wife, and I are really disappointed in the food! First off, the Philly cheese is not the same. The meat is like mush now with a few pieces of onions and bell peppers. Only thing saving the sandwich is the phenomenal toasted baguette roll it comes on. Secondly, what happened to the pizza??? This is a cool little spot in the Grand Sierra Hotel! It pretty much has snacks and drinks to grab on the go! They sell pizza by the slice. They also have sandwiches and burritos . They have delicious pastries anything from cakes , cookies and cupcakes ! We ended up getting some carrot cake cupcakes. They were so delicious!! We would also grab drinks and snacks from here it was pretty convenient. Everyone that I interacted with working here was super nice and friendly. Overall very convenient store in the hotel/casino . I had been craving a Cubano since seeing this place's inventory yesterday. So, at the end of our day, I was excited to pick up one for myself and slices of pizza for my wife & son. After an unusually slow wait, (they prepared food for the four subsequent customers first), they called my name. Taste-wise, it was not terrible, but also very bland. Then, half an hour later, the real testament began: food poisoning! Literally every day of this trip has been plagued by some drama and this time, GSR dished it up. The Starbucks line next door was out of control so I spotted here for come, they DO NOT HAVE ICE. So no iced coffee for me. But also I know it's Starbucks coffee they are using but tasted a bit burnt to me. They have pastries and cookies and also breakfast sandwiches. Pretty quick. One late night I did get there pizza which I thought was great. Might be the alcohol talking some times simple is best. I bought my waters, sodas and energy drinks here. I feel I should start this review off by saying I stoped by here during hot August nights. The service was beyond slow for the stop and grab style. We ordered one hot dog and the man who rang us up turned around to get it. The woman at the register next to me said that the same person had just told her that they were not ready. I asked the man if they were ready and he said they actually were not and took it back. Meaning if she hadn't told us they would have just served it. Which I can't get behind. In fact, it's the only reason I'm giving them two stars. I got the breakfast burrito and a monster which cost me 15 dollars. The burrito was the chorizo burrito, the potatoes were hard and there was chewy, fatty pieces of chorizo throughout. When I opened the wrapping of my burrito originally, the tortilla stuck to the paper and was coming off with the wrapping. When asked if they had any salsa, they had none. Considering how hungry I was and the late hour needing to catch a flight I opted for the grab and go (this Café). Service is the total opposite of fresh n fast. Everyone moved around lackadaisically, especially the young man. He had the gumption to tell me I could enter a tip since I was paying with my card. God forbid a diabetic be in need from here. They'd surely enter a diabetic coma. A gentleman behind me commented this seems to be challenging, can you open another register? Hell, at this point I was eager to grab anything despite food allergies just to have food in my system. I have been in Reno for 3 Days and the food is amazing and they are open when everyone else is close. I have told the other 20 to 30 people that came out with us about this cafe it is the greatest. The manager and both cashiers were sweet....... But then my last night has nothing to do with them. In come a cook.
