We were shopping for wedding rings together and toured about half a dozen different location in the DC area. We started with some well known chains like James Allen and Tiffany's, but they felt too impersonal or unnecessarily pricey. We then tried a few local DC businesses, and preferred them much more because the service felt very personalized and they provided the option to create custom pieces. We settled on two locations in the Dupont Circle area: Secrete Fine Jewelry and I Gorman Jewelers. Both were great and we ended up going with Secrete, but we definitely plan on going back to I Gorman as well. The sales associate that worked with us at Secrete was Emily, and she did a great job of turning our vision into reality. For me, we got a nice platinum ring, and for her, we got a diamond ring with two side stones. We absolutely love our rings and the designs, and felt very well taken cared of. They offer free cleanings so we will come back here periodically, and we plan on potentially buying more pieces in the near future. To start, I seldom write reviews, especially negative ones. That said, I am writing in the hope that this will help others. I took my Breitling watch in for repair when the crown fell off. The lady at intake was nice and professional and told me that they would send it to the watch repair shop and call me back with a quote in a week. I waited about 10 days and called to check. At that time, another representative called their watch repair and was getting the live quote from them as I was on the phone. The quote for new parts and repair would be $1,600. I didn't feel comfortable with that quote and waited another week to get my watch back. I took it to another certified repair shop who fixed it with new Breitling parts for $140. I can't speak to the jewelry side of the business, but you can decide for yourself if the watch repair quote was fair and accurate. read more

DO NOT TRUST THE OWNER. I brought my vintage Omega watch into the shop last year to have a part of the movement serviced. I received a notification to pick up the watch but unfortunately could not for some time. When I went in to pick up the watch I was told that they could not locate it, but not to worry as they were looking into it and would notify me when it was found. Weeks went by and periodically I would check in by calling the shop only to be blown off by the staff or told that the owner would call me back (which he did not). Finally I went into the store physically to see if I could get more information and yet nobody had any. Finally when I felt like I was out of options I wrote a negative review detailing my experience with the shop and voila! The owner called me wanting to "make things right" (meaning he wanted me to take down my negative review). He invited me into the store and began trying to negotiate with me to take my review down. He offered me to pick a new watch from his shop that was supposedly "nicer" than the one I had previously entrusted him with but was obviously trying to steer me towards ones that I knew were not on par. I tried to be nice about it but he continued to downplay the value of my watch that he had lost. With the negotiation going nowhere he offered me a supposedly "very nice" watch from a brand I had never heard of that he claimed was twice the market value of my lost watch because it was gold. Seeing the negotiation going nowhere, I unfortunately believed him. To close the encounter, he made it extremely clear that it was important that I take down my negative review, and even called me on my cell phone to remind me. Now as I am looking to get another watch elsewhere, I wanted to see what value I could get out of the watch that he had compensated me with. Turns out next to nothing! A reputable watch dealer informed me that instead of it being "gold" it was in fact gold plated and that while SOME watches from the brand had decent market value, the one he had negotiated me into had nearly zero because it was not a chronograph. PLEASE nobody make the same mistake that I made trusting the owner or I guarantee he will try to take advantage of you too. read more

I bought an engagement ring from Secrete Jewelry recently, and I could not be happier with my experience. I worked with Kadya and she was amazing to work with. I showed up knowing only what cut diamond my fiancé wanted and nothing more. Kadya was very patient with me and coached me up on the ins and outs of diamonds and worked hard to find me the perfect diamond. Kadya sent me probably 15-20 different diamonds over the course of 4-5 weeks until we found the perfect one. I have put off writing this for months, hoping that things would turn around and I could give a positive or neutral review. However, I feel compelled to STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST making any major purpose here. It's a shame that every dingus who has had a watch battery replaced seems to leave a 5 star review for the friendly staff, because the unfortunate reality is that if you read the reviews carefully, many people who trusted Secrete with a major purchase or sensitive work ended up leaving 1-star, myself now included. The worst part is that the owner weaponizes these positive reviews, at one point trying to gaslight me into believing that I was actually happy with my purchase because "look at my reviews." I had too many issues with my custom-made engagement ring to fit into a Yelp review, unfortunately. Telling the full story exceeds the character limit. Short version: constant defects, recommended a flawed design, used low-quality gold, mediocre craftsmanship, ignored my input about what size to make the ring (which was a surprise). I learned most of this from the 3 other jewelers we consulted after having so many issues with defects in the ring over several months of sending it back to them to fix one thing and then them breaking another thing, e.g. an accent stone that seemed to have been crushed, scratches, misaligned center stone, unexplained black grime, etc. The one thing I will explain in detail is the meeting we had with the owner. After several rounds of failed fixes with the ring, we drove out to their other location in Maryland to meet with the owner, Elyahu, who strikes me as an extremely dishonest and unethical man. I tried to express in very candid terms that I was sorry for all the trouble that they had gone through and that I just wanted the ring to come back in as-new condition, and to have additional prongs added as we had been advised the original design was not structurally sound. He repeatedly and systematically interrupted me, redirected the conversation, and generally gave the impression he didn't give a fuck about anything I had to say. His behavior was impulsive and evasive. For example, when trying to inquire as to the trade-offs of additional prongs, Elyahu would interrupt me and ask where I'm from. When I would tell him what another jeweler had said, he'd speak over me, saying he was the best, jewelers just say things, and then he'd talk about someone famous who was allegedly a friend. At one point he was talking about spaceships, I can't even remember why. Towards the end, I tried to impress upon him that the only thing he had to do to make me go away was put some time and care into the changes that seemed to always be rushed. He gave the impression he hadn't heard a word I'd said, telling me not to worry and to "look at [his] reviews." Generally, he made it impossible to have the kind of conversation about my purchase that I had driven 40 minutes to have, was rude and dismissive in a way that's hard to describe, and did the opposite of reassure us that he was going to be able to fix the ring to our satisfaction. My best judgment of his character is that he is simply trying to take short cuts and make as much money as he can without committing outright fraud and landing in prison. I believe this would explain why his staff doesn't communicate straightforwardly: everyone probably knows their craftsmanship is sloppy and that their job is to try to obfuscate this unfortunate fact. Ultimately, they remade the ring with more prongs. The staff told me it was beautiful and should finally be "perfect." The center stone was loose, and would make a clapping sound when my fiancée waved her hand. I took it down the street to another jeweler (Ideal Cut) and asked him to just fix it for me. He did so in 10 minutes and answered all of my questions in a detailed and straightforward way. Quite the contrast from a six-month ordeal with Secrete. read more

They gave us fair estimates and even a great deal on the ring we chose at their store (with a resizing) for my fiancée, based off the horror encounter we had before at a different shop. I took a few pieces of family jewelry here in June 2022 to be repaired and restored. They did a good job with 2 of the 3 pieces, but they lost the third piece -- a pair of vintage gold-plated Dior earrings with crystal pave that my mom wore for her wedding. They weren't of any extreme value, but they were beautiful and sentimental and something I wanted to have for my entire life. Over the proceeding year, I followed up consistently and was always told that someone was looking for them and I would get a call back. I never got a call back. I was even given the owners personal phone number and I spoke with him a few times (and was also ignored many times). Each time we spoke he told me "the earrings are of no monetary value... we have so much stuff it's going to take a long time to look through...etc" He finally invited me to the store to resolve this in person. I drew a picture of the earrings for him and conveyed how much they meant to me. He took me to the back room to show me how much there was to look through. It wasn't that much, just very disorganized. I showed him a picture of a $500 pair of earrings online that I would consider a suitable replacement, he went to the back and pulled out two boxes of earrings to give me. At the time, they felt suitable. I left the store and looked up their retail value -- each sell for between $12-$15. I feel completely blown off and disrespected and devastated by the loss of these earrings and how I have been treated. They have said they'll continue to look... but it's been over a year. Since they did a good job with repairing 2/3 of my jewelry, I can't completely warn against them.. but be cautious with pieces that they might not consider valuable enough to care for. read more
