I make this review easy to read: 1. Food is 6.5/10 - good variety, but low quality for the price of the resort (it's all-inclusive). 2. Drinks are 4/10 - you have to beg the bartender to give you a drink. Must tip them even if terrible service. The drinks are watered down. Needs some taking care of. The glasses are old and scratched, so ugly. Again, terrible for the price you pay here. 3. Rooms 10/10 - excellent interior design. Excellent views. Excellent room service. 4. Pools - 9/10 - I liked their pools. The infinity pool here is nice. 5. Hot tub 1/10 - OMG, this is the worst hot tub I've been to. It's not comfortable to even sit there as the asphalt under you is just coarse. 6. Entertainment - Meh.. We got there just before Thanksgiving, and they didn't do much. The staff was nice, and the pool volleyballs were a lot of fo fun. My husband and I decided to book this stay for our honeymoon. We thought the price seemed to be fair and it seemed highly recommended online. I'll be the first to tell you about the type of person I am... I don't expect the world, but I'm also not the type to settle for the bare minimum. I'll keep it real with you in this review. Upon arriving at the resort, they require to you to visit the VIP services desk where someone basically bribes you to learn more about their resorts for spa credit. My husband and I decided to do it since it included breakfast and we wanted spa services anyway. They promise it'll only take 90 minutes, but when we went...we were there for well over that time period. When we told them we weren't interested (which they said we were totally allowed to say with no pressure), we were no longer respected...they stopped looking us in the eye and kept getting different people to persuade us to change our minds. After this hotel experience, I'm SO glad we never signed up to travel with this company- as I can't trust that their other resorts are not this way. The drinks were terrible! It wasn't just the liquor, but the mixers were so cheap and gross. I was looking forward to my pina colada on the beach, but it was bad and tasted almost like bubble gum. They also didn't know the correct ice to liquid ratio for drinks! The food was pretty good (my opinion only, apparently...as many of the other couples we met mentioned how they were not satisfied with the food). My biggest complaint is the house keeping never came on their own without me having to call. They only came once on their own, but every other time I had to call. They asked me if I left the do not disturb light on, which of course I didn't because I'm not an idiot. It's really frustrating when napping is a part of the vacation equation and you couldn't do it without having to worry about when housekeeping was coming. The room also only had three drawers, which is not much to unpack when you're staying for almost a week Dreams is next door and is a sister hotel to secrets. It's the family hotel and secrets is adult only. Dreams seemed much nicer when we went over to that half of the property. I would never come to this resort again. Mexico is one of my favorite trips, but save yourself the trouble. I would rate this hotel 2.5/5 stars. read more

I came here for my birthday. Last minute trip so probably a bit pricier than if I had planned sooner. All inclusive because I wanted something relaxing. Delta vacation trip. Delta Vacation picked me up from the airport. You have to read the trip information to figure out transportation. It can get confusing. When you get out, you have to go outside to find your pickup. There will be people inside trying to get you to buy transportation from them. Don't forget to tip the driver. You step out and they hand you a moist towel and champagne and cookies. Lol. They use golf carts to get everywhere. I liked my room, but it was on the third floor, elevator wasn't working-oh well-exercise! There's an iPad in the room for ordering room service and check out activities and etc. but room service takes a while during prime time so might as well go downstairs to the cafe. Food is free anyways since it's all inclusive. Activities: it says watersports are included but it was so windy that they were closed throughout the time we were there. So that was a bummer. But the beach was nice and it wasn't super crowded. Beach/pool concierge are super nice. Most activities are free. If you want to buy stuff, bring USD. They sell Cuban cigars here-definitely pricier than in Cuba, but if you want it-it's available. I'd checkout when the cigar rolling class is and buy the cigars after the class. (You get to keep the cigar you roll btw.) PS Cancun Airport sells Cuban rum in the duty free shops for anyone who's searching. Definitely more options too. You don't need to bring your own beach towels because they have them. But BRING SUNBLOCK. You can bet it is overpriced in there. There are iguanas roaming around as well. ALSO- you can go to the resort next door. It's called Dream and you definitely need to go and try their Brazilian steakhouse. All you can eat meat-why not? But drinks-mediocre. I asked them to make my drink super sweet and nope. They did not. Sad face. This was my first all inclusive resort experience and I enjoyed gaining 7-10lbs in 3-4days. I would do it again. Debating the number of stars to give a hotel on yelp while still on vacation should perhaps be forbidden, along with the likes of checking work email. Yet, as a yelper and very frequent traveler, I simply couldn't resist. In hotel stars, I'd probably put it at 4.2, but on Yelp, I'll keep it at 4. To me, it was like a very nice, above average Westin property and to be fair, from the all inclusive realm, it's a great value for the money and the best all inclusive property I've been to thus far. Part I: Design With a focus on nature preservation, the property as a whole is beautiful. Located in the middle of a jungle, the nature itself makes this resort worth it. There are even bird watching stations, but I think the birds were hanging closer to the resort buffets than the bird watching stations as I didn't see any. Rooms are very nicely designed, everything looks new. It's not mind-blowing extravagance, but it's very nice. Just don't try to compare it to a St Regis or a true 5 star property. All is very nice and very unusual for Mexico, but in the grand scheme of hotels, it won't blow your mind if you are used to properties like St Regis or Mandarin Oriental. That does not mean you won't enjoy it. Water features everywhere add a very elegant touch and pools are gorgeous. Cabanas on the beach are a winning feature too. Part II: Service The way I describe Mexico's service is, "everyone tries really hard, but sometimes it's still a mess" Seriously, folks are very nice, kind and attentive, yet they majorly miss the organizational and process element. It's not just the case with this Secrets property, it's been the case with the other two Mexican resorts I stayed in (Riu Palace, Villa de Palmar). Some of the waiters are phenomenal, others are not. Room service is sometimes quick, sometimes it arrives in hours and others never. On the upside, it is included in unlimited luxury and complimentary. The process elements that are there often don't make any sense. Such as...they give you a coupon for a free pendant, but you can't just go pick it up, you have to reserve a pick up for next day. VIP lounge is not really VIP because the waits are quite long for talk to a person, but they have delicious snacks to enjoy in the meanwhile. Part III: The Food and the Booze I know this is what folks worry the most about when coming to an all inclusive...will they slack on the food? I can say comfortably, most of the restaurants at this property are very good and above average. Amazingly, the French restaurant, Bourdeaux, was the highlight. It is one of the best French restaurants I've ever been too, including those I've visited in Paris itself. Make sure to go for duck terrine, foia gras, lobster soup and escargot. The preparations were unbelievable and service was top notch. Market Cafe and Oceana are both fine, nothing to rave about, but good food. Himitsu was pretty good as well. The only one I'd stay away from is Seaside Grill. From pizza to fajitas, all preparations were just pathetic. Unfortunately, that was the first restaurant I've visited here and was quite scared. As far as the booze goes, make sure to specify exactly what liquor you want in your drink and how many shots of it, otherwise it will be a disappointment. They do have great mid shelf liquors, just need to tell them to use it. One thing that did make me cringe repeatedly, they use reusable plastic glasses for drinks and simply "rinse them" behind the bar without a dishwasher. This is a cleanliness nightmare. Either invest in a dishwasher or get single use cups that can be recycled. This is not acceptable. To sum up, this is a relaxing, elegant and beautiful resort that's secluded from the college party crowd of cancun and feels very intimate. There are some major improvement areas on the service component and the cleanliness of drink ware, but overall I'd come here again (and bring my own reusable cup for drinks). read more

Came here for a sales meeting and really enjoyed the location if your plan is to mostly stay at the resort and not venture out much. The complex itself is huge and offers both an adult side and more family oriented side. They offer daily activities like yoga, Pilates, biking, hiking, kayaks, ping pong, tennis and golf. They have a beautiful pool and direct beach access with no annoying vendors taking away from your relaxation. They have several bars spread around the pool and near the beach with several different dining spots like Brazilian steakhouse, Japanese, French, mixed buffets, etc. they have a discotec playing mostly top 40s with pool tables, theatre shows and also live performances in the pool area. Overall the service was very good, all the staff was very polite and prompt, the food was pretty good too for a resort and the drinks were good too. Our rooms also had late night room service, which was great. The meeting space was good and the engineers took care of minor issues when needed. Only thing I didn't like was that they don't offer a free shuttle service exclusive to the resort and the French restaurant didn't have soufflé lol I would more likely come back if in cancun but maybe just for a few days and then stay closer to the action in the city. read more

I stayed here for a week in January. My family really talked up the Secrets line so I had high hopes and I think because of this I was a little let down. I would still recommend this resort to people I just think we have stayed at better! I liked that it was a smaller resort so getting around felt compact and quick which is always appreciated. There are a few things on the resort you might want to utilize their golf cart trolley for. The pools were excellent-there were 3. One for relaxing, one for games/activities, and one for the bar/medium movements. It made it really nice that it was separate. They were all still very close to each other which again was super nice. They had lawn chairs everywhere, with umbrellas, and comfortable cushions. They also offer pool floats (You have to grab one right away in the morning or good luck, and they may try to take it away if you aren't using it constantly). The grounds were kept in phenomenal shape. The landscaping was pristine and beautiful from the time you get there all the way down the the beach. Our rooms were nice and kept clean each day. They do keep a Nespresso machine in your room-however, they only give you two pods a day which is certainly not enough for 3 people sharing a room. They have a fridge that they stock with soda, water, beer. However, they will only bring a certain amount a day which is semi frustrating when you are at an all inclusive resort. They offer room service which you order from a tablet (that sometimes doesn't work) which is very convenient. And then when you are finished you just place the food in a little locker that connects to your room and the hall so they can clear it. We also got to use a rollaway bed for no extra cost to accommodate the three of us in one room which was very nice! The food was decent. They don't really label anything which was tough for seafood bars(with someone who has allergies to certain ones), But other than that can't complain about it! We did had great service at breakfast and the sit down dinners. The only time we had an issue was when we went to grab three beers at a pool bar since the server had been avoiding our area for a while and we were told it was a two beer limit which was extremely frustrating. I would give another secrets a choice before using this one again necessarily, but it was a very nice resort! read more

This years visit was better than last year. Not sure if it's just the timing but last year was definitely a bit more on the retired side as far as the crowd. The staff is extremely helpful and eager to make sure your stay is the best! It's about a 25 minute ride from the airport. A few places to shop on the property in case you need a bathing suite or gifts to take back home with you. Usual items in Mexico are outrageous in pricing such as any toiletries but that's just par for the course no biggie. Food - the best dinner spot there is the Japanese Steak house. Portions on the slim side especially the rice. The bottom of my list was the French restaurant the wait on dinner was 2 hours and we were well ready to go order room service at that point then the food appeared. The shrimp and risotto were good, the filet not so good, mussels were decent, didn't try the escargot this time not in the mood for it lol. The best spot is for breakfast with the most amazing omelette station/cook there is to the point I could have eaten those a few times a day while there. Service at the pools is pretty good if you have a good server that knows you're going to tip well it goes along way. One of our servers stayed with us when we shut the fire pit down one night....they killed the lights, they killed the gas for the fire BUT WE KEPT IT GOING out there and our server was there all the way bringing shot after shot drink after drink....see my pics and video for proof!!! The beach is just okay ... the service there is minimal to. On existent where you are better off walking to the bar on the beach yourself where it's better service and drinks still cold enough to make you happy. read more

Stayed at Secrets for a week in January 2019. We have been to a Secrets before and pretty high expectations due to our great prior experience. I will still say I'd recommend this resort! It has a wider footprint, so they provide golf carts to transport you around. Sometimes there was a longer wait for the golf carts, but for the most part it was quick. The golf cart drivers were very friendly. As for the rest of the resort, I concur that the beach is stunning. I particularly appreciated that there was a lot of natural vegetation left, so it provided a more wild feel. It was very windy while we were there, so we weren't really able to take advantage of the beach, but they have a good amount of seating and the preferred members can take advantage of the cabanas. The pool area has a nice set up, with separation for people who wanted more peaceful, as well as the pool bar area with entertainment staff for a more upbeat experience. They had pool volleyball and beach volleyball, as well as various other classes. There was a Barefoot Grill to grab burgers/hot dogs by the pool, otherwise you could get dressed and go to the buffet or the other poolside restaurant for larger offerings. They also had a rotating set up of meals for a specialty dish, like paella to grab. Food was decent, but for only having the one buffet, could have been a little better, as compared to Secrets Capri. The staff seemed a little stretched thin, which was odd because the resort didn't seem full by any means. They didn't seem as happy as other resorts I've experienced. We still had good service for the most part, but did get ignored by the pool one afternoon. When we went up to the bar and tried to grab beers for our family we were told there was a two drink max... which is pretty silly. Our room was good, and the maid service did a wonderful job every day tidying up after us. We were able to snag a roll away bed for the three people in our room, which was clutch. They also provide an iPad to order room service, and that was super easy to use when it worked. It was glitchy at times and one of our orders didn't go through. We didn't really take advantage of any of the night time entertainment to speak on that. The various bars were nice, and we didn't really have an issue with walking up to a restaurant and getting seated quickly. The only time we had a problem with service was in Himitsu and I'm pretty sure they had one waiter covering the entire restaurant, so not his fault but get some more coverage. Overall, I still would return to a Secrets. But I would choose to try a different one before coming here. read more

I had the BEST resort experience here Everyone was friendly. Room service was prompt. The beach was immaculate. The gym was amazing! Stocked with fresh algae water (?) not exactly sure. Bottles of water, clean towels, apples in the AM. The dinner options were good. It was a bit slow but I could tell they were trying their best to serve everyone as quickly as they can. The morning and lunch buffet was ammmmmazing. One of the best buffets I ever had. Every morning I would eat a bowl of fresh yogurt with fresh guava fruit YUM! There is also a cafe that serves coffee and pastries in the AM and coffee and sandwiches during lunch. Perfect to pick up Togo when your going to be out sight seeing all day. I don't understand the bad review. I had the best time at secrets. Side note* every time the shuttles / taxis dropped me off @ secrets, they would ask me where I'm staying and when I told them my location they would look at me like daammmmmnnnn girl (LOL) supposedly it's one of the better hotels in cancun :P $$$$$$ FYI the hotel is FAR off the main "strip" it is literally the last hotel on the "strip" very secluded. I just got back from my honeymoon at Secrets Playa Mujeres. Long story short, we will Never go back. But here's the long story: The grounds, pools and suites are gorgeous. The relatively new and secluded hotel is located off the peninsula (not a hotel within 2 miles). It's about an hour north of the Cancun Airport. So unless you book some offsite excursions plan to stay within the hotel grounds. The beach: Beautiful, warm water but full of seaweed and a pretty strong current. Each morning a tractor combs the beaches trying to remove excess seaweed from the sand. The pool(s): It would be one very large pool except there are some divisions between walking bridges. ALL pools and hot tubs close at 8pm! Dumb. There is an area of the pool with just 5" of water so you can lay out but stay in the water, it was closed and drained during half our trip for maintenance. The gym and tennis courts: clean and very large and I recommend if you workout during your vaca! The spa: Amazing facilities! Hydrotherapy is where it's at! Even if you're not a spa person, do the tour. The therapeutic pool they have is amazing! The room: Junior Suite Ocean View: Includes toiletries - sunscreen SPF15, sewing kit, shampoo, body gel, conditioner, body lotion and shower cap, etc. There is a beautiful ocean view, a hot tub that can overlook the bedroom and tv if you keep the blinds open, two English channels and one all you can watch porn for the true romantics. Ha! The room is also equipped with speakers in the vanity to hear the tv in the bathtub and a button to notify the hotel you don't wish to be disturbed or if you're ready for your room to be serviced. The rooms have a safe as well although many guests complained that theirs didn't work. Ours needed new batteries half way through our trip. The staff: Mostly terrible. Many don't speak ANY English so dust off on that espanol! They are not particularly friendly, not engaging or fun. Most don't even smile! Pretty much void of any personality which is very weird for an all inclusive in Cancun. There were about 5 staff members who did their best to try to have a conversation. During our 'preferred guest' check in the guy didn't even say Hello, Hola, nothing, just took our paperwork and continued to work. We tried our best to speak to and have fun with the bartenders, except for a few times with a few specific staff members, this was just a bust. The food: Complete tasteless crap. It looks nicely plated but it was always a failure. And every night one of the restaurants was closed. It was the most talked about conversation at the pool with every guest we met. I recommend sticking with the daily buffet because the specialty foods were just not worth it. When guests wish they had chicken McNuggets available you are not doing a good job! The shows: The rock band and hip hop nights were the best. All the rest were pretty mediocre. Don't be upset if you miss any because you're not missing much. The room service: Note it takes almost 40 min every time for room service which is 24 hours. EVERYTHING we ordered was gross. Stay away from the pizza and hamburgers, they are inedible. The admin: When we first checked into our room (don't except to check in a minute earlier than 3pm!) it wasnt completely finished because only the next day did we have a banner over our door saying Happy Honeymoon. The first morning we woke to a knock at the door and a luggage cart - the staff member thought we were leaving. The last night our phone (3 in each suite) rang off the hook beginning at 3:54am! just one ring each time. One day our room had been cleaned but we were called to see why we didn't want the room cleaned...um, check your paperwork, it was cleaned. We sat through a 90 min. "timeshare" and told there would be no pushing. But the manger who worked us was so upset we didn't purchase, stormed off without so much has a thank you or goodbye and started talking behind our back. With so many options available to you in the beautiful city of Cancun I highly recommend you finding another resort. read more

Just stayed here with some friends. Outstanding service at all the restaurants and bars, fun activities, also had an amazing couples massage with Guadalupe and Jesse. The only reasons this place isn't getting five stars from me is the check out took way too long and they tried pressuring us into a time share meeting upon arrival , also the mini bar was barely ever filled we had to call and inquire, our complimentary champagne for our anniversary wasn't chilled and they claim you get free turn down service which we did not get. Everything also closed early and the pool and hot tub closed early too. I understand the bars closing is due to the covid restrictions in the area but most hotel pools stay open at least until 10 and I didn't want to use the hot tub while the sun was still shining so that was a bit of a disappointment. The worst experience. They invited us to see the hotel but told us that we needed to stay for a talk for 90 min so they could sale a vacational package. They didn't tell us that in advance even though we insisted that we were not going to come if we needed to stay for a talk. Also the hotel is not that great. The lobby was standard, the pool ok, the staff talking about a minor being there in the facilities, they did not offer any welcome refreshment like some water. No wonder why they invite people to visit and enjoy the facilities for free. We will continue to come to the "excellence" hotel which is next to this one. It is great, service is 5 stars. We recently stayed at Secrets (all inclusive-adults only) resort for 5 nights during what was supposed to be non-rainy season. Well our first Cancún trip was not as expected. I was disappointed when we arrived at the airport and there was a heavy rain storm. That alone already gave me a bad feeling. Everyone kept telling us that the rain is off and on. Well that wasn't the case. We requested an early check in since our flight arrived at 730am. Upon arrival at the resort, we were shuttled via a golf cart to the Preferred Club check-in. Apparently, that means you are granted access to the private lounge and other special privileges. Also you get a personal concierge at your fingertips. They give you VIP welcome kit with $200 worth of coupons to use on spa services or credit toward bottles of wine. The Secrets slogan is "Welcome home"! It felt nice at first until they start trying to get you to schedule an appointment to receive the sales pitch to a time share. They kept pushing it and will continue to call your Suite to see if you're still interested. No means no lady! We stayed in the Preferred Club ocean view junior suite. The view is amazing. This room has a hydro tub and a jacuzzi in the balcony area. The separate shower has the overhead rain option. Housekeeping gets two thumbs up for cleaning the rooms daily. I like the nightly turn down service. Such a nice touch. They restock the fridge with beer, bottled water, and juices at least 2x daily. There's a Nespresso machine for an extra boost in the morning. Even mini liquor bottles for your enjoyment. Toiletries are provided: shampoo, body wash, bug repellent, and sunscreen. On our first full day, we were able to soak in the sun at the beach and pool. There were high winds and thunderstorms from then on. On our final day Tropical storm Alberto decided to pound the island. Even with bad weather conditions we were able to get in some outdoor activities. We made use of the clear blue waters and soft white sand. **Couples massage on the beach. So relaxing to hear the waves. The winds were a bit crazy but we were fine under the hut. Our massage therapists were both awesome. I felt less tense afterwards. What a great way to kick start the vacation. **Tulum+Xel-Há excursion: I booked this through a third party prior to our trip. Transportation is included. First you are driven to the ancient ruins site of Tulúm. About 1.5 hours from resort. Then you are dropped off at Xel-Há to play at the water park. We didn't get to enjoy much due to the rain. Bummer!! **Downtown Cancún: we went to a local shopping center to get some souvenirs. Most of the workers are able to communicate in English. **Food: Market Café is a good option for a la carte breakfast. Room service was actually excellent. All entrees ordered were delicious. You can also visit any of the restaurants at Dreams which is the sister resort right next door. Shuttle service is the best route. Overall the hospitality staff, concierge, and restaurant staff are fantastic. Everyone is so friendly and greets you each time you pass them. I still don't think that we will return to this resort again. Although it was a nice experience at Secrets! read more

I'm only on day 3 and I'm sold. The food is phenomenal better than Riu. I did not get sick. It is very classy for Cancun! No loud nose, adults only no loud kids. No loud college kids. They serve you like royalty. They won't let you carry your plate, they refill your drinks, and they are quick. The best part is that you can visit the sister resort for free with a golf cart that also comes pretty quickly. I do recommend the vacation club! We have a free trip to Hawaii. The resort gave us MANY complimentary bottles. They take care of you like royalty! read more

My sisters and I stayed here for 5 days/4 nights. The beach is gorgeous and the staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean, comfortable and large. There is a sister resort, Dreams, that is easy to walk to. It is for families while Secrets is adults only. We all felt that Dreams was laid out better, had nicer landscaping and looked a lot newer. Half of the Secrets restaurants are located up the hill where you check in. You either need to take a golf cart ride (they come by often) or it is a 10 min walk. The spa (nice but pricey) and gym (one room of equipment) are located up the hill too. Check in takes forever, especially if you get there with lots of others checking in. And once you get your room assignment, you are required to sit with an activities guy who explains the room vouchers and then tries (very hard) to get you to attend a presentation to be a VIP member. We declined, over and over again to go to the presentation. I am a big pool person, and the pool is nice. It's one pool but broken up into three sections where the middle section was the "party" area. I got a swim up room but only used that feature once and wouldn't get it again. Swim up rooms are obviously on the ground floor which is one flight down. And thus there is no view, just foliage. And the swim up pool doesn't lead to any other pool, it just is a long snake-like pool along the side of the building. Plus, the water is cold! (The main pool was heated). Maybe in the summer months it would be nice to have this "dipping" pool outside the room, but not necessary in winter. There are lots of activities so something to do all the time. The clientele ranged from 20s to 70s. The food is ok. Dinners are better than breakfast or lunch buffets. I liked the French and Italian restaurants the best. The mixed drinks are weak. What an amazing time, by far the best destination I've experienced! The team at Secrets left nothing to chance, the food was outstanding, drinks - awesome, but the people EXTRAORDINARILY AMAZING! My wife and I were constantly asked about our time on the property, and the people were ready to provide whatever was necessary to ensure nothing less than perfection. I'd love to point out employees, however there were too many exceptional people to point out a few favorites (like Marco at the cafe). If you are seeking a destination that is outright PHENOMENAL, then I'd suggest you look no further than Secrets Playa Mujeres! Finally, during our trip, we choose to venture off into an excursion with Salvetica, a company which hosts Zip Lining, ATV riding, and Swimming. I can't believe how hospitable these people were. I swear, it was as if the staff at Secrets hosted the entire excursion themselves. Be SURE to include these guys into any Cancun excursion and guarantee yourself many laughs, thrills, excitement, sheer fun. The secret to the Secrets Playa Mujeres is to stay at Dreams facility which is newer but has kids. Secrets is 5 years older than Dreams which is adjacent to it. Food is better at the Dreams restaurants. There's more pools and the ambiance is better. At an all the inclusive place don't expect premier drinks and premium food unless you know where to look. Cleanliness is not bad and the staff tried to please. The secrets and dreams facility is nice and it's OK for people who are possibly college students or a person on an extreme budget. Unfortunately if you are looking for a great food quality and premium drinks, I recommend you look elsewhere. The reality of all inclusive places is that most places would go out of business if the food quality was great and they used premium alcohol to serve their guests. read more

Wow! What a wonderful experience. The number one thing that I will take away from this trip is that every single person you come in contact with is very accommodating and pleasant. There's no shortage of good mornings or good evenings or how is everything? The staff is extremely nice and very attentive to your needs in every single way. If there is a place I would come back to, this would be it. Not only was our room clean and refreshed every morning, and may I add early at that, but all the facilities were very well kept and extremely clean. Had a beautiful elegant dinner at Portofino for our 25th wedding anniversary. The food was absolutely incredible, but food is always better with amazing service. Robin, Pablo, and the head waiter (sorry can't remember his name) made our night so special. They sang an anniversary song and presented the most delicious desserts. Outstanding service from everyone we came in contact with. We felt special from the moment we arrived to the moment we left! Restaurants had good variety, such as Italian, Mexican, hibachi, seafood, & steakhouse. Food didn't wow me, but nothing we had was bad per se. Decent collection of liquors to choose from, but horrible selection of wine included in the all inclusive price. If you want good wine you have to buy a bottle $60 and up. I'm in this area about twice a year and frequent all inclusive adult resorts for personal and business. This is not one of the better ones. Unfortunately, will not return. Started off awesome. Received a room upgrade - room had two flat pillows for king bed. Not so awesome! The room special came with a $200 voucher to use at resort. Only it wasn't a voucher, it was coupons. False advertising. Beach is clean and beautiful, little seaweed. However, food is just alright. The pool water is hot. A good drink is hard to find. Spa is a bit dysfunctional. For price point had higher expectations. To get from lobby, spa, meeting rooms, and most restaurants to your room, you have to be transported by golf cart. Not ideal for corporate events. If you want food by pool you will be limited to burgers and hot dogs. There is a seaside grill but has dress code. A guy can't eat in a sleeveless shirt but a girl can walk-in in a bikini and see through cover up. Hmm Best dining experience was at Oceana mainly because of location right off the beach. first time at a secrets resort and the last! upon check in,my group of 6 people were escorted over to a corner of the lobby, while our concierge was getting our room numbers. during this wait period, we were introduced to david, who proceeded to give us a hard sell about timeshares and promises of discount massages if we sat through another hard sell presentation at breakfast, the following morning. this was totally unexpected and we felt that we were being held hostage for an hour until we demanded our room keys. luggage was not delivered until 2 hours later after we called and asked where the bags were. this already put a sour taste in my mouth. the top shelf liquor which is advertised is not visible so you have to ask for it and the bartenders agreed that the "good stuff" is always hidden. we were told that the only restaurant that needed reservations was the japanese hibachi- so when we went to the concierge to make the reservation"for any night that was open" we were told no- that we had to download the app, create an account and try to make the reservation for that night and you could only do it between 12-2 in the afternoon. seriously? why do they need a concierge then? when it was time to checkout- we scheduled the luggage to be picked up at our room at 7:30 am. the bellhop showed up at 8:00am, after we called to find out where he was. he then said that he was the one who brought the bags to the room and had the audacity to make the comment that "we are always in a hurry!" meanwhile, we didn't have too much time to have breakfast because he was 30 minutes late. the food was decent, though. but, never again at a secrets- i will stick to iberostar, thank you. read more

I love this area of Mexico in the been About 10 times to all inclusive resorts from Riviera Maya up thru Cancún. This place is not absolutely terrible, but considering the price point yes it is. There are places you don't expect quality of food, service, etc. but at the price I paid here I was expecting equivalent as some of the better resorts I've stayed at. The food here is terrible. It might as will be the same place I came for college spring break when I was on a strict budget. I saw another review that mentioned not having enough fruit on the buffets. And funny this morning at breakfast I thought they don't have nearly the variety of fruit are usually see in Mexico. Not that this comment is based on the variety of fruit. The food in the "nicer restaurants" has been pretty subpar. Again if I were on a spring break budget of a college kid, all would be good. But I'm 40 years old and I am fortunate to make it a good living and paid good money to come to this place. Service is not great. Last night was my first night here, I called twice to ask for more water to my room. It never came. I've sat on the beach at the pool many times waiting for someone that can bring me a drink. I get up a lot myself and just go to the bar because you can't get anyone to bring you anything. Meanwhile funny enough I've spent a lot of time in my room this trip. Someone has been knocking on the door constantly. I was up here for an hour reading and getting out of the sun mid day and four different service people came to the room. During the day I've had maids knock twice, someone to stock the mini bar that has already been stocked an hour before, and someone to check the lights (which I thought was weird). It is now my second night here. When I came up from the pool to get ready for dinner the temperature in the room was 75. AC was set at 72. Now Ive been back from dinner, it's dark and the temp in the room is going up. I've been waiting for someone to come check the air conditioning as my room is 80°. It has been getting warmer since I came back from dinner. I have found the staff to be friendly, but the service level lacking. As a wine drinker, it sucks they won't keep wine in the rooms for you either. The resort credit they tout is a joke and not well explained. Overall if you were going to spend this much money per night per room, there are plenty of better experiences in the area. The sand beach here is nice though. read more

If you think the money here is worth it, you're not doing cancun correctly/you have not been to enough resorts.. the only good think i liked about this resort was the depth of the beach (from the resort steps to the ocean), how close the volleyball sand court was and that there was minimal seaweed on the beach.... other than that here is what you need to look out for with this resort.... 1.) customer service is terrible for how much money you pay, I would recommend paradisus cancun reserve side. 2.) you hear absolutely everything out side of your room bc the doors/walls are too thin.. so im sure ppl can hear in. 3.) swim up bar at the pool is average.. small selection of beer and liqour 4.) i think there are only 5 restaurants on the resort with sub par food and VERY SMALL PORTION SIZES. 5.) the coffee taste like shit 6.) check in took forever. 7.) the bar tenders have significant attitudes and you dont feel any customer service from them. 8.) If you like going off resorts to experience other foods they are all 30+ minutes away. 9.) an hour from the airport however, this is just my personal opinions.. i wouldnt go back, only went for a wedding. hope this helps.. give the resort 4/10 read more

Well we stayed at Secrets playa Mujeres And it was not what we expected. The resort is only a few years old and it is miss a lot of amenities. The lobby is out side. First thing the staff will try to sell you a timeshare. The restaurants are not the greatest. They are supposed to be five course meals,But the restaurant help are overwork and bring you all your food at once. Italian restaurant will take you over an hour or two to eat. You do have to take a golf cart ride where ever you go. We were supposed to have a room with an ocean side view. Instead we had of view of a construction site. The workers would work from sun up to sun down. The beach are not white sand or blue waters. Do not stay there if you want to really experience Cancun. read more

Second time to this location and so happy to see our favorite people still here to make our vacation memorable. Angel favorite bartender. Luis Moo has taken they BEST care of me and my friends at the pool. The best surprise was seeing Americas when we arrived and she remembered us. Not to mention she has gone above and beyond to help make my best friends birthday special. The entertainment crew has been outstanding and fun. Jesus has also went above and beyond to help plan a surprise birthday lunch for my best friend. Israel is also fabulous! He was great last year when we had to move rooms and amazing again this year! Love this resort. I do wish they had they same food options like bbq cookouts for lunch as they do at dreams. It's an easy walk over. read more

The facility is beautiful. However, other than that....this place sucked!!! We were there in January 2017 and I won't give the entire week of our stay but I will give two of the biggest issues there. The secret is Playa Mujeres was not worth the money we paid. 1. A sewage problem -- the moment you walk into the room it smells -- there is definitely a sewage problem by not having a P-trap on the toilets the rooms smelled like sewage and putting incense in the bathroom to burn does not cover that disgusting smell. Bring a nice smelling candle. 2. Food NOT that good...My wife ordered chicken nachos that looked as if a can of chili was poured on top of tortilla chips and chicken strips that barely warm to eat. She was very disappointed by the presentation and the temperature of her food.Consequently the Oceana was closed and we decided to go to the El Patio Ricardo was our waiter and he absolutely was the worse waiter of all time -- he deliver cold food, never refilled any drinks and when we did want something my wife had to wave her napkin to get his attention to come over to serve us. The Greek salad we ordered came in with blueberries and BlackBerries and provolone cheese instead of black olives and feta cheese. Don't waste your money. My wife & I decided to stay here for a week to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary & my 30th birthday. We were looking at staying at a Riu resort due as she has stayed at them before, but decided to switch it up and try something "nicer". Upon arrival we are met with champagne and other welcome gifts. I was thinking "Hell yeah! I can get used to this." Well I think that is where it ended. Moments after we checked in and were given our room keys, we were walked across the lobby to another representatives desk. They then attempted to sell us on going to a time share purchase breakfast. I kindly told them no we were not interested but they continued. After traveling all day I was kinda cranky and grumpy said NO! We then we're escorted to our room. (FINALLY) Shortly after arriving at our room we decided we were starving and wanted to go grab some quick dinner. We decided to just go to the first restraunt we saw. Upon arrival we were turned away due to myself not wearing a collared shirt. So we turned around and I changed into "dress code". We return to dinner and are seated. During that dinner there was a group of 6 women eating across from us. 3 of the 6 women were in tshirts, denim shorts and one even had a KC Cheifs Tshirt on. I was pissed but my wife told me to just let it go. Well moral of this part of the story is they are discriminatory and pick & chose who has to follow the rules. This happened at every meal we went to through out our week stay. I was forced to take a 35+ min cab ride to the mall to purchase clothes that would allow we to eat during our stay. So $250 for clothes + 60 in cab fare we were ready to go, but at every restaurant we visited they only made certain guest follow the dress code. The dress code in general is very discriminatory. At the casual breakfast woman are allowed to enter in tank tops, but men are turned away. At formal dinners woman are allowed to wear flip flops and open toed shoes but men are expected to wear sneakers or dress shoes. Men are also required to wear long pants while female guests can wear jean shorts and skirts. A resort in a tropical area should have equitable rules for both genders, especially when it's 90 degree outside. Not so fast... It's not over.... The food at this resort is like eating at a hospital cafeteria. Don't you dare order their room service because it's even worse. When it came to the "All Inclusive" part of the resort I couldn't believe it. After spending almost $4000 for our stay we were then bugged and bothered everytime we turned around to spend more money. The bare minimum was included. After reaching out to management at the resort we were then bothered by the staff at every moment. Our phone rang off the hook and they bothered us at every meal. Once again, we could not relax to save our lives. Management's answer to our problems was "Pampering" as they called it. This meant food and alcohol brought to our room. First off, I thought we were at an all inclusive resort? Shouldn't this be included already? Secondly, I don't want your hand out. I wasn't complaining for anything free, just what I paid for. This resort is anywhere from 25-35 mins away from anything. So you are looking at least a $60 roundtrip cab fare to go anywhere outside the resort. This place literally feels like somewhere you drop grandma off to spend the rest of her days. Don't do it! Stay at another resort that is closer to the hotel zone. Honestly, I will never stay at an AMR resort or Hyatt ever again. read more

We really enjoyed our stay here! Rooms and view of the beach are beautiful. Food was great too, lots of options. The really cool thing we liked and have not experienced before was, its next to a sister resort (it's a family one) so you could go have dinner there or just hang at their pool. The Brazilian restaurant was amazing at the family resort! The resort is huge so the only downfall is you have to wait for the staff to come pick you up on a golf cart. read more

My husband and I did our Honeymoon at Secrets last August . It was mostly amazing with just a few hiccups. The resort is really beautiful and when you arrive they give you a cold towel and a glass of champagne- definitely a nice touch. We weren't able to check in right away so they suggested we go for lunch and come back when the room was ready. We went right to Oceana grill for lunch and were happy to find that they offer a whole fried grouper fish as one of the meal options. The fish was beautiful and is a very generous size. The bartender also presented us with amazing margaritas and a particularly strong drink he called the "Riviera Maya." they also give you small plates of Guac, Pico and Salsa. After finally checking in we went to our room and it was beautiful and clean. My husband was disappointed because he had called ahead to let them know it was our Honeymoon, and they had said they would deck out the room with rose petals, chocolate covered strawberries, champagne, etc. He was so excited to surprise me with this and none of it was there, though they had a sign on the door that said honeymoon. When he called the front desk they said they were sorry and would bring those extras up, but that didn't happen until he called another 2 times. One of the drivers who shuttled us back and forth throughout our trip was especially accommodating. Israel, who we met on the first day was very nice and welcoming and we were always excited when we saw him coming along on the cart. The pool and beach are both pristine and there were usually enough chairs and towels for us, at any point in the day, especially before noon. My only complaint about the pool is that they offer Zumba classes in the pool instead of on the concrete.I tried this twice but it is pretty dysfunctional and not nearly as fun as regular Zumba. I love Zumba and am a Zumba teacher myself and was really looking forward to dancing off some of the Margaritas, but "pool Zumba" doesn't really do it for me. They should definitely keep aqua aerobics in the pool and move the Zumba on land. That said, "Sexy Ross" was hilarious and we loved doing aqua aerobics with him. The spa was very beautiful and our couples massages were great, but we were made to wait about 25 minutes for our room to open which was upsetting because we saw multiple people come into and out of the waiting area during the time we were there. The hydrotherapy pools are ok, but have these chairs with jets in them that are so strong that they actually push you off the chair....so that doesn't really work out lol. We got a deal for 40% off our massages from a guy by the pool who was coordinating spa appointments which was great, but made us quickly realize that the coupons they gave us when we arrived as a "honeymoon special" were essentially useless because we'd pay more by using those than by asking for the 40% deal. The best restaurant was by far Portofino. The first time we went there, they had a sax player outside on the patio entertaining the guests outdoors. We thought this was such a nice/fun touch and the food was also great. We especially loved the burrata and I could actually have the pesto sauce because it doesn't have pine nuts (I'm allergic) so that was fun! Our worst dining experience was at Seagrill where we paid the extra $50 to have the romantic poolside dinner. After booking this "special, romantic" experience, we experienced the slowest service ever and were made to wait 1.5 hours for our raw tuna steaks to arrive. This was after the provolone and vegetable appetizer arrived as literally a single piece of cheese on a plate with a leaf on it....???? When my husband complained, the waiter was outraged and told us that we were overreacting and the restaurant was just busy. At that time it was busy but when we arrived promptly at 8 for our reservation, the place was empty, and when you are paying for a meal at an all inclusive resort...you kinda expect hem to pay some attention to you. The waiter was incredibly rude and told my husband that he should take it up with the manager. When the manager, Antonia, arrived, she was incredibly kind and apologetic. She said we could have a discount off the dinner and she would make a special reservation for us to eat dinner wherever we wanted with a special menu the following night. She apologized and said that she wanted to change our impression of the resort and also arranged for us to receive chocolate covered strawberries and champagne when we got back to our room. The next (and final) night of our trip, we were treated like royalty at Portofino restaurant. they gave us a 6 course tasting menu, keeping in mind all of our allergies and food restrictions (which annoyingly are a lot). The food was incredible, the waiter was attentive and Antonia met us there and introduced us to the chef. This definitely made up for the night before and we really appreciated it. Read this super honest review. This was my first time to an all inclusive resort. So I have no basis of comparison . All inclusive resort is not ALL inclusive! Wanted to sit outside of seaside grill. Couldn't unless we bought a $20 bottle of wine for $150. Wanted to eat at some of the other restaurants for breakfast to find that they are closed or reserved for the guests that are exclusive ( pay more money) Plan on eating buffet for breakfast. Their app was never up to date on what restaurants were open or not open. We did eat at almost every restaurant and the food was very good. The drinks were good as long as you asked for specific things. Friends saw them grab the cheap alcohol when you weren't watching. Hot tubs were warm tubs. Not hot at all! Even asked for them to turn it up and they wouldn't. Pools closed at 8pm so don't plan on hanging out with friends after that unless you go to the beach or your room. The staff would get 5 stars. They were all very nice and accommodating, they were just bound by the corporate rules that I mentioned above. Do not go on their free shopping tour! Waste of 1/2 a day. They take you to tequila tasting in a jewelry shop that you tour and the actual shopping was a joke one room overly priced crap. Just buy souvenirs at the airport. All in all it was a very nice place. It just annoyed the hell out of me that they were really not all inclusive. I felt for the price we payed it wouldn't have cost the resort any more to just be ALL INCLUSIVE! read more
