Really, 3.5 stars, but I'll bump up. I've mainly done take-out here so I can't comment too much on the dine-in experience. I tend to order the spicy scallop roll, reg cali roll, or salmon roll. They're all pretty good, but I hate how sometimes it isn't rolled tightly enough. Their server, Carlos, is amazing. He always knows what I want when I call in to order! I've also had the sunshine roll and I love it! Bonus, you get a 10% discount if you show them your student id! This wouldn't necessarily be my number one choice in all of SD for sushi, but definitely one of the top ones when I want sushi close to home. Definitely check it out! read more

Finally a decent sushi place in East County with decent ambiance. Don't get me wrong - I like Banbu. But it's overpriced for what it is. Sei has a modern atmosphere. Honestly, this place isn't anything to rave about but it is decent sushi for a local joint. No complaints about the food. I ordered the Navajo and Snow White(?) and both were really good. Also got a side of miso soup and honey ginger tea. The miso soup was yummy as well. The honey ginger tea was amazing. It was served in a rather large mug which I was really excited about haha. Customer service was great. Our server was very attentive and friendly. The only thing I think they should work on is bringing out food in a more timely manner. One of my favorite sushi places in East County / La Mesa area. I've been eating here for the last few years, and it's got some of the best quality (fresh) tasting sashimi / sushi around. Whether I order "pick up" or dine in, everything looks & taste delicious. Some of my favorite rolls are the Salmon & Garfunkel, Navajo Crunch, The Protein and The Grossmont. I've tried quite a few others that are delish too! I'm definitely a fan of some of the apps too, like the seaweed salad, tempura shrimp, jalapeño bombs, miso soup and gyozas. I haven't really tried their rice bowls/plates, or noodle dishes though. No matter what the food is always fresh, service is quick & the staff is friendly. Out in the area for the weekend and we were looking for a spot to celebrate our sons birthday. We looked online and found this sweet gem. My goodness I'm so happy we decided to wait it out and give this place a chance. Where do I start. The customer service was amazing, Cynthia took great care of us and made our sons birthday extra special during this crazy pandemic. We all ordered different items off the menu and not one of us were unsatisfied with our selection. One of my sons ordered the "Kamikaze spicy beef Ramen", and every bite was pure perfection for a ramen lover. The menu offers various options. We absolutely fell in love with the "XXX" roll. We love spicy food and this roll hit it out the park. The other two rolls we were obsessed with are the "Yellowtail Fantasy and Salmon Garfunkel". My goodness how flavorful and fresh were these rolls. We also ordered octopus, salmon and yellowtail sushi pieces which were absolutely like butter in your mouth. If you are ever in the area or are thinking about giving this place a try, DO IT!!!! You won't regret it. This was our first family meal out during this pandemic and I can't say enough how happy we were we made the perfect decision to come here. During my wife's pregnancy all she wanted was sushi. We finally have our baby and this was the first sushi we ordered. The quality was poor. The sushi was disgusting. Falling apart. We took one bite from each piece we ordered just be make sure we at least tried it and proceeded spit them all back out because it was so vile. This place used to be great but now it's sub par. They went through some renovations through the years and as they did, the quality of the food dropped, and prices went up. Service has also gotten much slower as it now takes anywhere from 25-40 min to get an order even with only a few customers inside. The same 3 item combo that costed $9.99 a couple years ago now costs $12.99 but includes less food (they took away the miso soup). I didn't mind the price increase as the food is great (or at least used to be) so I expected the same today. But after ordering a Tiger, Sunshine, and basic salmon roll, I realized just how much the quality of the food has gone down. The rolls were all bland and didn't have much spark to them and all I could think about while eating is how quickly I want to get the meal over with. Even after I finished, there was an unusual fishy taste leftover in my mouth, not the usual taste you'd expect after eating good sushi. As I write this review in their parking lot, all I'm thinking about is where I can go to wash this taste out of my mouth! Ultimately, I'm not sure if it was the preparation that was off today or if they used old product to produce the meal, but this will definitely not be my first choice next time sushi comes to mind. read more

The food was pretty tasty and my family enjoyed Shrimp Crunch, California, albacore and Tiger rolls. My wife had a seafood ramen which she gave 8/10 rating. Terrible service. Second time here and both times the service was not just slow but terrible. Waited 45 mins for sushi and she forgot my edamame. She tried to make it seem as if she didn't forget "oh it's still coming, do you still want it?" Noooooo it's long overdue! Had 3 people in my party and was served 2 plates to eat on. I kindly asked for a 3rd and the server said" oh you need 3 plates?" Yes, yes please I need 3 plates for 3 people. No refills on water! Sushi was not terrible but omgahhhhh the service.
