We had the ceviche trio and short rib spring roles as appetizers - these items were by far our favorite part of the meal! For our entrees we had the seafood paella and New York strip steak. Both were a good portion. The paella had a good mix of seafood and flavor. The steak was nothing spectacular but decent. The service was good and atmosphere was enjoyable. We were outside and it was a little chilly but the heat lamps made it comfortable. I highly recommend making a reservation, the restaurant was busy but they sat us immediately. This spot is excellent. We had an outdoor reservation for four and they moved us inside due to the weather. The drinks are fun and the food is all delicious and well thought out. I do have to knock off a star for the noise - I felt like at some point we gave up even trying to hear each other, and hearing is not something we have any difficulty with. This is an upscale Peruvian restaurant right on the heart of downtown. Place feels like a date night type of place but it's flexible enough for groups. Christine was our server and she was spectacular, greeting us promptly although she was very busy, thoroughly answering questions and explaining menu items, and with a sense of humor. As for the food: Empanadas- we had the beef and they were okay The pulpo with black olive aioli was delicious- I would say it's a must have if you like octopus The duck was perfect, as was the Chilean salmon. The salmon special was a little dry - overcooked? We brought it to Christine's attention and she, without asking, took 50% of this dish off the tab We had 2 rounds of drinks and it all came to 320. Ambiance very good including acoustics....the disappointing part was when the waiter delivered the check he did not tell us a 20% tip was applied, people at the table took offense to this..then awkward when one guest asked the waiter about. Me and my boyfriend come here every other week. Absolutely love it. Favorite date night spot for sure! I always get the ahi steak with miso watermelon salad and my boyfriend always gets the NY strip steak. We usually get the appetizer special of the week and it's never let us down. 10/10 if you've never tried this place I definitely suggest you do. read more

Wow! Visiting Sarasota for the first time. We were seated right away on a Sunday night. Cozy, romantic ambiance. They offer inside and outdoor seating. This a Peruvian Cusine restaurant. We ordered the Wild and Ceviche Mixto to start. Warm bread with butter was brought out while we waited. Perfect timing, it was a cooler night. This has to be the best Ceviche I've had in Florida. I want to go back before we leave just for the ceviche. Our entrees were, Selva's Skirt Steak. Served over sweet plantains. I ordered a side of jasmine rice. Well seasoned, just what I was craving after a 3 hour drive. We also ordered Andean Rack of Lamb. I don't particularly like lamb but the feed back I got from my friend was it was it delicious. She also want to go back to have it again. The last dish ordered was the Seafood Paella. Delicious! Portion was big enough to pass the plate around the table for everyone to taste. All good reviews. To end our great experience we ordered the Tres Leches for dessert. I am glad we only ordered one. It is delicious and one was enough for the table to share. A huge thank you to Glenda our server. Incredible food, welcoming to a large party and really great cocktail selection. Freshness and quality were top tier as expected and the service was attentive and kind. Presentation did not go unnoticed, and flavor was matched to the beauty. The corn flan with the seabass was killer and such a unique addition sweetness and texture wise. TLDR: you're getting top notch seafood and meats here, it's priced very fair for the quality and quantity of the food, you're not getting some abstract art on your plate and leaving hungry! The food seems extremely fresh, with the ceviche obviously taking the spotlight and they have a wide range of choices in that category, so if you're a ceviche fan it's mandatory to stop by! The plates are great for sharing, i typically have 3-4 people in my party and we treat the ceviches as a tapas style appetizer (order a few & share)! The main dishes are equally stellar! He loved his jalapeño passion fruit margarita and they took my pomegranate mojito off since it wasn't my drink to enjoy and I only had a few sips. Fantastic Peruvian Infusion. Our first time here and we were very impressed. Our water Dennis (were not good at names but that was on the receipt) was on top of everything! Very attentive and knowledgeable! We started with the spicy tuna ceveche, which was delicious. Very fresh with great flavors. Reminded me more of tuna tartare, but still very good! Next, we both got the lamb, were suckers for a great rack, and this didn't disappoint! Additionally, we were not really into risotto, but good was on point! By the way we enjoyed many delicious cocktails along the way, including the ginger old-fashioned golden margarita, and i forgot the name but a delicious grapefruit martini. Selva grill is a surprisingly design forward modern-eatery in quaint downtown Sarasota. Of the items we tasted, the Cesar salad and spicy wild ceviche were standouts. The passionfruit margarita was refreshing; the spinach empanadas were unfortunately overwhelmingly oily. The tri-chocolate mousse my dear friend was gifted for her birthday was yummy- especially the espresso chocolate portion. The ambiance was like an outdated neon light bar, but I thought the private back tables/seating areas would be cool for dinner parties. I also thought it was cool that they platted all the appies we ordered in one single platter. There were some major foodie hits in my books here: -Jumbo Sea Scallops (5/5): A MUST. Not only were they huge, juicy & cooked JUST right...the pesto and sweet purée was so complimentary -Spinach empanada (4.5/5): super savoury sautéed vegetables inside a warm flaky crust -Beef empanada (3.5/5) -Wahoo ceviche (2.5/5): VERY limey. It overtook the other flavours and I couldn't even taste the watermelon -Seafood Paella (5/5): lots of quality seafood on top of a bed of scrumptious creamy risotto -Duck entree: my friend got this and she said it was good and cooked great! -Tres leches cake (4/5): was a sweet treat, definitely soaked in all that milky goodness & I liked how it paired with some tangy strawberries. Fusion with the taste fused out. Selva is a pretty restaurant and it's very popular despite the very high prices. (Make a reservation.) Every fish is beautifully presented on plates decorated with orchids. It's kind of Peruvian but without the wonderful flavor of Peruvian cuisine. Our waiter was attentive when he was around, but he wasn't there when you needed him. He drops by every table to ask "Is everything delicious?" Yikes. But when I wanted him he was no where to be found. Ceviche was bland. Waiter went through a long song and dance about the chef recommending the duck breast medium rare, but it arrived overcooked -- and cold. My wife thought the lobster tostadas were "meh." But they sure looked Instagram-worthy on the plate. Finally we waited and waited for the check. Then we waited some more. Yelp says three stars is ok. On the night we were there Selva was good. Stopped into Selva for a work Dinner with two coworkers. We had a reservation for outside and minimal wait around 8pm. I ordered the scallops to go despite all the ceviche recommendations due to wanting it to keep for a later snack! They were well crusted however I felt the sweet potato's were nothing special. For mains we ordered the fillet, pallea, and salmon. I honestly thing the seafood pallea had the best flavors within the rice. Seafood quality was good but could have used more in my opinion. Steak was cooked medium and served perfectly and seasoned spot on. Salmon was also cooked medium and fall apart. Crab on top was nicely oven finished. I subbed the rice for truffle risotto because I just love truffle. I think maybe that was a mistake, just felt a little underwhelmed by the flavor. Sauces were a nice add. We didn't try dessert but an added bonus was getting a "celebration" tag at our table for a co-worker celebrating 15 years with our company!! read more

The fries were good and the steak was cooked as requested but no flavor and just OK at best. I didn't finish my martini and took over half the steak home, not sure I'll finish as leftovers. Husband did not like his seafood paella since the rice was too mushy. At first, I thought my sea bass portion was much too small, barely any bock choy in it, but once I started to get through it, it was rather satisfying. I made reservations ahead of time on OpenTable which is highly recommended because this place is super busy and very popular. This is a business in the strip mall across from UTC. There is a large outdoor area and a large amount of parking, as it shares space with Target, among other businesses. Walking inside you have a posh bar and warnings for no beach attire. Past the host's desk is a main dining room with beautiful artwork on the walls and views of the patio and outdoors. We had a party of eight, which was served with speed, care and accuracy in service that was impressive. The food was delicious, and although pricey was worth the costs. Served in creative ways and nothing short of a wonderful experience. The roasted corn nuts, plantains, and chimichurri to dip them in was so tasty as a welcome bite at the table. We had paella, surf and turf, Chilean sea bass, red snapper and filet at the table. Each dish was artistically plated and delicious. After the meal we decided to share a few desserts: The cappuccino was hot and strong, so chocolate mousse was the perfect companion. The bread pudding was good, but the star was that mousse! My only fix for the restaurant would be to mark the restroom location, as it was a bit difficult to find and have the bar staff more aware to lead people as they wander. We had the opportunity to sit outside on a beautiful evening. The heaters in the patio kept us nice and warm and cozy. There were so many delicious options on the menu that we decided to get a bunch of appetizers and share rather than do entrées. That was a great decision and everything was outstanding. I highly recommend the tropical cerviche and the occotopus, absolutely amazing. Our server was extremely knowledgeable especially helping us with gluten free choices. We went on a Sunday evening and got there about 5:10. We wanted to eat from the Happy Hour menu. There were about 5 seats at the bar and people were coming and going most of the evening. Everyone was able to find a seat. There is one sitting area in the back that is a couch and soft chairs with a coffee table. All the regular tables are for the main menu, not the happy hour menu. The happy hour prices were reasonable, the drinks were good, the food was tasty and parking out front was free because it was Sunday! All in all my husband and I had two drinks, four small plates (the Caesar salad was our favorite), a cappuccino and a brewed coffee plus we shared a dessert. The cost was $109.00 plus tip...The service was great, the food options were excellent and we had a wonderful evening. read more
