Good food and quick prep time made Semra's exactly what the wife and I wanted for our lunch while we were on vacation at the beach. I must admit that I started out slightly disappointed: They advertise shawarma on their windows, so I very excitedly ordered it only to have the waiter turn around and call out "One gyro!" Darn. I was a little skeptical at first because this little restaurant is along the main tourist thoroughfare in Bethany Beach but it was very good. The past two years living in DE, and having been out to Rehoboth many times, we never even noticed this place. We saw their menu, and after three years of not having any Mediterranean food we decided to give it a shot. The hummus, Dolma, tabouli was fantastic, then we got our meal. My son and I had Chicken Shwarma, wife had Lamb Gyro my daughter had chicken over rice and the food was excellent. Back where we used to live and get Mediterranean food it tasted great, however, it was very oily. Not here!! The food was clean and fresh not oily at all. The food was so good we ordered extra to take back home. The atmosphere was very chill, relaxed and inviting. The staff was very friendly and pleasant, drinks were never empty. Wow- nothing bad to say about it. Every imaginable type of Mediterranean street food. The front of the establishment is wallpapered with actual photos of the entrées they serve. I've noticed the only places that do this tend to be Chinese and these Turkish kabob joints, and although it usually cracks me up from its cheesiness, it also tends to work. I think I've tried most of the major items depicted out there- gyros, lamb kabobs, Hummus, baba ganoush, falafel, Greek salad, etc.. Face it, if it's on a stick or in a pita, you gotta love it. The place is sort of divided into two parts. The front portion is similar to most boardwalk carryout food counters. But wait! You can continue on into the dining room which has a much different, calmer, sit-down atmosphere. Colorful tarps are draped from the ceiling. It's more dimly lit and feels kinda like an opium den- but in a good way! Hookahs on the tables would not look out of place nor would a troupe of belly dancers emerging from the kitchen. The little souvenir tin they leave your check in is a nice touch at the end of the meal. Consistently great dishes and service. We usually have lunch here at least one day per trip. Honestly, I'm shocked at the good reviews. This place is so overpriced and the food and service are both terrible. We were passed by our server twice without the slightest acknowledgement and we waited at least 10 minutes before being greeted by our server, which was rough on such a hot beach day when we were a desperate for some cold water. I ordered a lemonade because the server said it was homemade, which sounded amazing to me. It was, without a doubt in my mind, most definitely not homemade. I'd put all my money on it being powdered Country Time Lemonade, which was almost insulting at $4 for a glass. We all ordered a lamb and beef gyro and all three of us were horribly disappointed. There was more pita than anything else in it and the bread itself was tough and chewy. The meat was too thick, dry and completely saltless and flavorless. There was too much lettuce and quite honestly, although the tzatziki sauce was the most flavorful part, it was still bland and there was hardly any in there at all, which made the dish very dry. It was less miserable if you sprinkled a bit of salt on every bite, but overall it was a terrible experience and at $9 per gyro and $4 for powdered lemonade, I will not only never go back, but I highly recommend that anyone looking for good quality food go elsewhere. read more

So came here and got some dinner.. It was okay.. Nothing special. I got the beef and lamb (burgers I guess. Idk what they are called). The dish was okay nothing special and over cooked and dry. The tzatziki sauce was really well made though. The service was horrible. There wasn't many people here at all and I felt like I was waiting forever for everything (water, check and the server forgot to give us part of the order). The gyro was very good tho. We were very excited to partake in our second takeaway of this six week quarantine and happy to get good Mediterranean. Unfortunately, we were VERY disappointed. Hummus and baba ghanoush were good and tasty. For mains we ordered Moussaka and Chicken Adana. The Moussaka turned out to be a ground lamb sloppy joe with red & green peppers while the Adana was a single piece of reheated meat. Ever taste old, reheated meat? It was tossed. I don't write many reviews, but other patrons deserve to know this... Ordered delivery from Semra, as the food looked appetizing on the website and the restaurant seemed to have decent reviews. After assembling our order for 5 people, I was a bit surprised at an over $100 bill for Mediterranean food, but considering the reviews, thought we'd go ahead and try it. Upon seeing what we got delivered, it looked like about $30-40 worth of food... but, then we tried it. Almost everything was absolutely terrible. The chicken and rice was overcooked and bland . The falafel tasted like it was reheated from a frozen batch, the tzatziki was overly sweet, the pita was damp and sorry, the French fries (for our son) were soggy, the spanikopita was overly sweet and dull. I will say that the lentil soup did get decent feedback from one of our folks. Overall, if I'd had paid $30-40 for this meal, I'd have gutted it and moved on without a word, but $100 for this bad excuse for food is unacceptable and deserves getting the word out to others. read more

What a discovery! We found this place on Yelp and decided to try it after seeing how many stars it got. They've been around for seven years and somehow I've never noticed them. The store front showing a bakery case of rice pudding and pastries distracts from the full dining room behind that. So, eyeball the pastry case, and then walk beyond into the dining room. The service is prompt and very friendly, with a nice decor. And better yet, it has delicious food! We started with hummus and pita bread. The hummus was probably the best I've ever had! It was smooth, and smoky, and served with warm pita. So, delicious! We also had lentil soup and it was a big portion of soup with, I can only describe as, life-affirming flavor! If you're feeling an illness coming on, or you need a comforting meal, then order the lentil soup. It came with more pita and a lemon to squeeze over the top, and was just icing on top of the icing on the cake! At that point, if that's all we'd eaten we would have been happy and satisfied patrons. But then in short order we got the Chicken Shwarma platter, and the Chicken Kabob platter. The portions are generous with a big helping of rice, winter salad (more on this later), yogurt dip (tzaziki) and lots of chicken. The Chicken Shwarma was served as shreds, well seasoned and served over pita slices. The Chicken Kabobs were succulent and tasty, and again served over pita. The rice was perfectly cooked, and the tzaziki was chunky with cucumber and was a nice counterpoint to the meat. The winter salad was somewhat like a coleslaw. I'm not a fan of coleslaw but my husband is and he loved it. To end the meal we got rice pudding, and it was very tasty. So, all in all, we are now super fans of Semra's! read more

Went there over summer and had lunch with my wife. Kabobs and rice and a couple other Mediterranean dishes were good. It was decent, but I'm indifferent as to whether I would go there again. It was a place where we stopped to eat when we were hungry. Nothing bad to say, but I'm not sure I would go out of my way to find this place and eat there again. We had dinner there because of a friend's suggestion. We come to the beach all the time and noticed this place last summer but wasn't attracted by it curb appeal. I am so glad we over-looked the curb appeal. The PLACE IS GREAT!!! The food was all nicely seasoned and cooked to order. Most of the desserts are homemade. Let's be fair... It is impossible to get the same taste you find in Turkey but this is one of the good ones you can find in USA. Staff and owner are great. You will find the best welcomed service in the area. I visited 3 restaurants and returned even before seated because of the rude attitude but Semra's restaurant has a wonderful team. You will feel wanted over there. Foods are delicious and tasty. Don't even try to compare with any other restaurant there. If you like fresh food, don't hesitate. Prices are very reasonable but it is very unusual to be charged for bread in USA. It is something they brought from Middle East market and they need to reconsider pros and cons of it. I love Greek and Mediterranean. Fresh food, homemade, family recipes. They have beer and wine. (Which isn't apparent on the menu). There is sit down with table service the food is in plastic baskets. Ordered 8 lunches through DoorDash for delivery. Order arrived promptly and after opening it, we see that the two falafel wraps have tzatziki sauce them on when the DoorDash menu says tahini sauce. I call Semra's and try to explain them the situation and they start arguing with me that the falafel wraps come with tzatziki sauce. I tell them that's not what the menu says. They say they are looking at the menu and it MOST DEFINITELY says tzatziki sauce. I then get a very belligerent "What do you want me to do about it?" I want you to make it like the menu reads with tahini sauce. I go back to the restaurant to pick them up (which has now defeated the entire purpose of delivery and they continue to argue with me that DoorDash is wrong. I show them the DoorDash menu and they tell that it's wrong. "Look at our website they tell me." I tell them perhaps we are both correct. I get my remade wraps and go home. When I get home and start discussing how rude the restaurant owner and his help were to me, and I start thinking about it more, it occurs to me - there is slim to no chance that if the menu creation on DoorDash is not under the restaurant's control, that some DoorDash employee substituted tahini for tzatziki on their own. And low and behold, I look at Semra's online menu on THEIR own website (see pictures) and it says tahini sauce! NEVER have I been treated so rudely by a restaurant where they made a mistake in preparing the food, with the error putting two diners at risk of a food allergy, and then having to argue with them about getting it remade the correct way. And then they flat out lie about what their menu says. read more
